*Cache find # 14796.*
I headed out here today to attend the 21st birthday event, but made sure I was a bit early so that I could go for a stroll along East Walk to find this one.
I arrived at the GZ area and made my way up to the cache where it was soon spotted, the log was signed, I headed back to the track and continued along East Walk a bit further before returning to the event.
**Thanks to ian-and-penny as well as bogonghazy for placing this cache.**

Thanks to Jarwillo for scrambling up the embankment to find this last one for the day with crowd support from below. Thanks for the cache.
On our way O'Brien's crossing after attending today's event, a group made up of CracknLeeLee, Ozhockeychick, Explorer Gran, Jarwillo, Chook ( from Chooknchunk) and myself enjoyed a very long, scenic and social walk and even managed to find a cache or two along the way. Crack'n'LeeLee had found this cache a few years ago so had a bit of an idea where it should be. Jarwillo took one for the team and scaled the incline to make the find where the cache was found high and dry. Than you ian-and-penny for placing this cache, it certainly helped break up our walk this afternoon.
Fuelled on by the attraction of an event in the middle of the Lerdie, Chook joined a wonderful group of friends (OzHockeyChick, Explorer Nan, Perpetually Lost and Jarwillo) to hike in via Razorback and Spanish Onion tracks, then out again via East Walk.
Most of our group weren't "pro" hikers so we were a little slower than normal to navigate down the rocky ridge descent of Spanish Onion Track and then up the escarpment on the other side of the river. We had left early to allow for our group abilities but we still managed to be very late for lunch at the event, which was at the old mining site about a km downstream. Cracknleelee joined us for this leg of the journey, which was truly spectacular with its gorge scenery and magnificent geological cliff formations. By the time we got to this cache, most of us had very tired legs and achy muscles, but Jarwillo clambered up to find the cache high and dry, just where it should be. TFTC ian-and-penny, and to bogonghazy for maintaining.

A beautiful day's hiking through the Lerderderg National Park with Perpetuallylost, chooknchunk, OzHockeyChick, Explorer Nan and Crack’n’LeeLee. We were out here to attend the event hosted by the hamfish and took the chance to explore some of the trails and the various caches hidden along the way. Some a quick find just off the trail and others requiring quite a bit of scrambling up and down slopes. A long but enjoyable day.
I attended an event at O'Brien's crossing years ago and looked at walking in for this one. It was quite a bit further along the track than I expected so I'm glad I didn't at the time. Today we walked straight past it on our way out for our last find of the day. A quick scramble up the slope and with some guidance from ground level made the quick find. Thanks for the cache.

A gorgeous day for a stroll through the lovely Lerderderg Nat Park, exploring Razorback and East Walk tracks. Teamed up with Perpetuallylost, chooknchunk, Jarwillo & Explorer Nan and then with Crack’n’LeeLee for the walk out.
The last one for the day, Jarwillo making the find here.

"it is gone.
it is no longer here.
it has gone with the floods.
the parks victoria notices and countless logs lying hither thither around the track speak to the power of the floodwater
fully-grown eucalypts and blackwoods turned to rubble
so there is no way that a lunchbox made of light flimsy plastic and filled with air was not carried away downstream by the surging river
it is gone."
at least, that's what we were going to write
we even penned that report on the way here, seeing the detritus of the flood around us like a barricade
a conclusion written before we had even begun the search
but
as luck would have it
the flood graciously spared this small section of riverbank
and so, sitting pretty above the destruction, the treasure was found
so, we can offer our condition report:
cache is in good condition
container appears watertight
plastic bag is sealable and without holes
logbook is dry
cache is ready to be found
it is no longer here.
it has gone with the floods.

What a perfect morning for a walk with the family. We had to be in Bacchus Marsh to pick up some plants so I opted for this to be our walk. A great track which required some scrambling but such a pretty pretty place. Easy find here. Fav point for the wonderful walk.many thanks for the cache.
Initially went a bit too far up the hill to the old mine workings, but quickly spotted the cache from the top. The cache itself is in good conditon. Tftc
My muggle daughter and myself are out this weekend for a overnight hike. Somehow I have talked her into stopping for a few along the way. I love how geocaching and hiking go hand in hand. I just love it. We have had a lovely weekend but didn’t bring enough water, by the end of the two day hike we were dreaming about water. Thank you for bringing me to this lovely location. I have missed a few along the way, it just means I will have to come baok this way. Thanks heaps
Find #1217
We decided to head for a walk in Lederderg State Park having never walked here despite being told how much we would enjoy it. We were joined by a friend to walk the loop from O'Briens Crossing. This was the first cache we came across on our wander down stream. I managed to miss the cache on my first pass (wasn't too trusting of the coordinates, which was a mistake), and it was only when I was asked to give upmand keep walking that I found it. Guess that happens now and again! TFTC!

#1/2 during my 2-day trek from Blackwood to Mackenzie Flat Picnic Area (43 km). The rest of boring road way to Bacchus Marsh train station I luckely got a lift.
Permission was obtained from Maccamum, so Maccadad and I were able to join Biggles Bear, Alansee and Muzza on a hike. Felt just like old times! We estimated we would return in an hour - took us 70 minutes with Biggles Bear being the successful finder. TFTC!
I had had my eye on this cache before so when Muzza said he was keen to do it, the walk was on. With Maccamob, Geojo and Biggles Bear also on board it was a most enjoyable walk along the windy river gorge to the cache site, where Biggles made the find. Many thanks Ian and Penny for the placement.
Found with Muzza, Alansee, David and Jo during the 15 year reunion event. Loved the walk along the creek, very pretty and most enjoyable. Thanks for placing the cache.
During the 15 year anniversary event nearby, Alansee and I both discovered that we were keen to grab this one, so along with GeoJo, Maccamob and Biggles Bear #2, we all enjoyed the scenic walk along the river and having a good old chat.
Once at GZ, the cache was found by BB#2 after a short search. Then it was back to the event, one more smiley in the bag, and nicely warmed up by the walk. Thanks to ian and penny for the cache.

Found by Mary & David at 1315. When muzza, Alansee and Biggles Bear announced at today's Event that they were heading off to find this cache, David and GeoJo tagged along. It turned out to be about a 2km walk each way along the riverside track, which was pretty good going if a bit slippery in places after the overnight rain. Once at GZ we spread out to search, and it was biggles Bear who made the find. A nice way to extend our streak in good company. Our thanks to bogonghazy.
We were at Obriens Crossing for the 15 year event and decided to tear ourselves away from the fire to make the trek here. We were glad we did as we had a wonderfull little stroll along the creek; the clear skies meant we were cold but didn't overheat and we were in no danger of being rained on.
Once at GZ we made a pretty quick find (it's all about the viewing angle) and decided this would be it for our feet today and made our way back tot he crossing.
Thanks for bringing us along this great little track.

Came out to the crossing today for a bit of a walk and grab this one. Really pleasant walk beside the Lerdie. The track is in good condition and easy to follow. The cache container had a big hole in the lid and a bit of water inside. I had a replacement container in the backpack, so replaced the container and logbook bag. All is in good condition now. Container is a 1.2 litre sistema painted grey. Thanks for a great walk beside a great river.
Second cache of the day after scrambling down the mountainside from another one. Like a previous log, container has a hole in it. Did not enjoy the dead huntsman inside but better than the live one in my letterbox when I got home. Did see a group of feral goats rambling across the other side of the gorge. Will log a maintenance request so the cache can be repaired. TFTC
We were disappointed when we finally reached ground zero as we were expecting some form of geological feature but we could not see anything special.
We also would like to report that the cache lid has a large hole. There is a bit of water in the cache but the log is dry.
Maybe the next cacher can bring a replacement. It's a medium oblong shaped lunchbox sized systema.
Reading the history of the cache we just may have to go back and look for where the original cache was placed, so we can see the feature, and if, by chance, the cache is still broken, replace it.
The wildebeests, also called gnus or wildebai, are a genus of antelopes, Connochaetes. They belong to the family Bovidae, which includes antelopes, cattle, goats, sheep and other even-toed horned ungulates.
Didn't see any of the above today, but we have seen goats out here in the past.

This was our first walk from Brian's Crossing and it all looked a bit confusing. Blue skies and a brilliant day for a walk. But not much time up our sleeves and decisions had to be made.
I think we can follow a river, my partner said. Especially if its dry, she said. I followed her lead.
Sunshine and intermittent pools along the creek bed made this a really pleasant walk. We made good progress, chatting as we went.. As we approached the hide my partner decided wildflowers were more important to photograph than caches were to find. Again.
I did the required scrambling but didn't spot the hide till I was heading back to the path. The casing is cracked but the contents are sealed and dry. Hopefully the positioning will prevent much water pooling.
We walked a little further on to sit by a pool in the river bed to have lunch. Lovely.
Thanks and cheers!

Box is broken, and the zip lock bag has some micro holes in it, so the logbook is at risk of getting damp and washed out. Have tried to place it back in such a way that it'll stay dry, but the cache will definitely need tending to.
I spent a bit too much time looking at various maps apps, trying to see if my GPS and all were actually working and accurate while running my phone in offline mode, first time doing so in Australia. While scratching my head, Kloremerke found the cache. Nicely hidden! And now I know that it all works in offline mode, heh.
Have to note that the cache container is a bit broken, has a hole in it. We tried to place it in such a way that the interior will remain dry.

Dad and I finally made our way out to snatch up a few in the lerdi today. This was our first one we got on our walk from obriens crossing, down the river, up Cowans track and back to obriens crossing. Doing this we managed to pick up a few others also.
When we found this cache we noticed a large hole on the container lid, yet surprisingly the contents were all dry and in good shape. I attempted to place it in the exact spot I found it to keep it this way.
Thanks hazy for this one

Found on a sunny afternoon, I was seen by a couple muggles that were backpacking the Lederberg River from North to South. The lid of the container was cracked and had a large hole in it. I placed it back the same way I found it, in a way that would 'hopefully' keep any water out.
Found this one on a lovely winter stroll, the ascent to the cache was slippery underfoot but a quick find =)
Found this with Pacman & Jacko83, not absolutely sure what a wilderbeasts aural cavity and lug looked like, I will have to seek out some nature shows. Thank you Phil for contributing to our days pleasure. It is a bonza walk.
Found with Jacko83 and Mudbrick while hiking to an overnight campground nearby.
The 3 of us made the short scramble to the cache to see the "gnu ear".
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache, ian-and-penny and Bogonghazy - these relatively remote trails are awesome.

Found whilst doing an overnight hike to mine camp with Mudbrick and Pacman. A bit of a scramble then the well stocked cache was right in front of me. Haven't been to this part of Lerdie before and its a beautiful walk! Tftc today in a great spot.
Thought I would start the day nice and early. Upon arrival I was greeted by a multitude of cars and tents !! Wow, doesn't this place get busy !! When I finally found somewhere to park, I kitted up and headed off. The going was slow because of the recent rain. Slippery rocks and moss covered logs made for a cautious pace. Eventually made it to GZ with both legs of my shorts soaking, thanks to the plants I had to walk through. [xx(][xx(]
Unfortunately some-one had left a coffee lolly in the ziplock bag with the logbook. It has melted into the log book and left bit of a smell. It's only the bottom right of the book, but still..... A clever hide here, I like it. Added my name and returned the hide. TFTC bogonghazy.

Found after a walk along the river. Took a bit to find but got it in the end. Great location.
Lerderderg is a very pretty river to camp swim and walk along. Surprising how few make it out of O'Bogan's Crossing: Redneck Central. Box is getting a little wet, though logbook dry inside plastic bag. I like the title: was just on a South African Safari with some French tourists-so I got the joke. tftc
My GPS was making me experience struggle town while trying to find this one, changing GZ every few seconds or so. Just as I was about to give up hope I knocked on something hollow and thought "Well this is whereI would hide it" - Great minds think alike - the cache was soon in hand

This was my main reason for caching today chasing some unloved days.
Still many campers at O'Briens Crossing.
The walk in was quite rough and ready.
A number of newer fallen trees.
Great walk it was though.
The cache was a quick find.

Found with ° on little wander through the gorge. At first I thought it had not been found for a year but we continued down the gorge and crossed paths with the previous finder who had been here that day.
Found this cache while on a Walkabouter's walk. I was at the rear of the group so took a few extra minutes to find this cache. I was looking for the obvious but did not spot it. A short walk around GZ and I soon spotted what I was looking for. A traditional Gnu! Beautiful surroundings. Be careful when it is wet as it is a bit slippery! Great hide, thanks for the cache.
Hopefully it is acceptable to log a find on a cache we once owned.
(We know where it is, and our names should be somewhere in the log book!)
Thanks bogonghazy for adopting the cache, it is really appreciated.

Found after a walk along the river. Interesting the amount of flood damage. Glad we weren't here to see that! TFTC. TNLN.
Bogonghazy kindly brought me out here today and filled me in on the background to this cache. I have been waiting to do it for some time and was very glad of his company.
We walked past the original hide and I now understand, I think, the meaning of the name which had been puzling me.
My GPS as usual was playing funny games. A few wise comments from B ensured the cache was in hand, log book signed and off we went.
Contents were a little wet, tipped out water and replaced it hoping all would be well. TFTC ian-and-penny

Located and logged this cache after finding a few other caches in the area. Had a wonderful walk and think I may have found the other half of this interesting item 5km down stream( Hopefully we are talking about the Gnu Ear and not the Higher Ace)[:o)]
Thx for possibly my second Ian & Penny Cache find

Great walk in from O'Briens camp ground. Lots of noise from people chopping wood and playing around at the camp site, but once around the corner the only noise is from the bush and the stream.
At the site I couldn't spot the cache. Looked all over the place and was about to go on. Decided to have one last pass. I was sure I was standing where the cache should be. Then I realized the cache was in front of my nose!
Thanks for bringing me here.

Its very disappointing that the cache container has gone missing. We will do a maintenance run to replace and restock in the near future.

Stumbled across this one by accident, while on a longer walk in the park. I didn't have a GPS or coordinates but as I passed an interesting item along the track, the word "gnu ear" just popped into my head and I remembered I had looked at this cache description many months ago. So i looked inside and their was a little package just sitting there. Unfortunately it's not in very good condition. There was no container, just a cliplock bag and the notebook was completely soggy. There was no sign of the trackable either. I didn't realise at the time as I didn't have the cache description so I didn't look around to see if it was anywhere and left the package where i found it.
Wow. This was one of wierdest way we found this cache. We where tracking towards this cache, when we come across the Gnu Ear. Checked it out, without having looked at co-ords for the last 200M, and then geo-junior said there's something there. Sure enough we had the cache in hand, without even having to use the GPS, a rare thing to happen, especially when you are on a 2KM hike to the cache! With such a wet day, we had to quickly sign the log and keep going onto the next cache before it started to rain again.

Loved the walk as we ambled along the path watching the river and the rocks. It was great to be out of town; we were in Obrien's Crossing for our 24 hour escape Melbourne plan and what a nice spot this is. I bet it is crowded on weekends though ! I didn't exactly follow the GPS to get here as the loaded topo maps had me on the other side of the river which didn't really make sense.
Sorry to the poor person who abandoned their craft.
Ian-and-penny thanks for a great walk in a unique place.
In: TB " Australian CustomsTravel Bug", nice lapel pin (cant remember what was on it) and some gold. Out: Tripod

This is a terrific walk on a well-defined track beside a beautiful now running river.
I'd actually done this walk last year in my pre-caching days, and took a photo of this object to show the rest of the family, it certainly stands out amidst all the greenery.
Took the dog along with me to clean up a few caches in the park that have been annoying me.
It's always good to see all those smiling faces on a map.
My thanks again to Ian & Penny for another great cache that is highly recommended to anyone who enjoys an easy stroll in the bush.

On our way into O’Brien’s Crossing we noticed a FWD behind us, and as we had been watching these two caches and as the weather had been so hot we put off the hunt.
We parked side by side and the other person grabbed his gear and was off like an old billy goat after saying g’day, how you’re going.
Now we both had a Garmin hanging off the belt so to another cacher that should have said something. Max was on a mission and knew exactly where he was going but we had no local knowledge and started following up the hill but then we thought about the cache notes that told us to follow the path along the river so back tracked to the river and ended up crossing the river at least five times before we found the same track.
On arriving at GZ we found the cache and now know what the name means and on opening the log book saw that we had been deprived of a FTF by 15 minutes by bristlehound who observably needed A FTF more than sharing with anybody else.
Well I have 51 FTF’s so it does not matter much but my partner today would have loved to share a FTF.
Congratulations to bristlehound on finding this cache and having the local knowledge that sometimes comes in very handy in these circumstances. Well done.
Thanks to ian and penny for placing this cache NI-NO.

I returned from a Tassie fishing trip to find this cache and its neighbour, down the track were still awaiting finds, so today I set out to rectify the situation. I have seen this particular feature several times previously over the years, when walking this track. (Twice in recent weeks, in fact.) A quick trip in produced an easy find, as I had virtually guessed the hide before setting out, having stopped and discussed the particular item on an overnight walk in the gorge a couple of weeks ago. A First to Find but only just, as on my way back from downstream, I met up with two other visitors who turned out to be Bushfire and Vicfire. We had arrived simultaneously at the carpark but I hadn't picked them as fellow cachers and, hoping to be in and out before lunch, had said a quick "good day" and scuttled off. The track is in good nick except for a few recently fallen trees and is fragrant with wombat poo. A few weeks back, the area was thick with native orchids but they seem to have died off now. Many thanks for the journey, Ian and Penny, and for the FTF memento.

Looks like we are not having much luck, with bristlehound still in front of us again
on this track. About 40 minute walk to GZ to find a good cache hide. (like it)
Track in was good with some narrow parts.
Thanks for the walk Ian and Penny
