We were imagining a much larger hint item, but when we saw where the cache is hidden we knew that would be the spot, and it sure was. Interesting to see so many rocks there all together, looks like quite a few are memorials. Thanks for the cache!
A quick find here in the first place we looked. Found with angelic_kiwi on what ended up to be a four hour geocaching walk. tftc

11km bike ride and 15 total caches. Getting dark now but still 6 to go.
Oh wow, I have seen painted rocks before. But never so many in one place. In fact, usually they are loners.
So how come the rock that covers the cache is not painted?

Took the youngest for a quick lap of the 10km circuit! We were only going to have a couple of stops but 3hrs and 11 caches later we had ended up collecting most of them.
Spotted the rocks from afar, and at first I thought it was one of those cunning caches where there is a bogus stone amongst the real one that is hollow underneath and contains a cache container. But a quick look disappointed me, and I widened the search. The anomaly stood out blatantly, and the cache was soon in hand. Thanks and cheers from Grandalf(2595)
spotted the rocks from a distance then hopped of the bike, quick rummage around & I had the cache in hand l. TFTC
6th cache today on the trail! Tftc took a bit longer than I was expecting.
Quick find today while on a family bike ride. Last time we were here the caching decided died and we were unable to locate. Today little miss 4 made the find. Thanks!
I attempted this one a couple of weeks ago and spent a frustrating 15 minutes rummaging around the painted rocks! I actually read the description this time and it was a quick find when I looked in the right place! TFTC!
We spent too long here, as we concentrated on the title, and moved a lot of painted rocks, before reading the description. Once we had moved 8-10m from the track, it was a quick find. TFTC!
Tregearp both spent much of our youth in Christchurch and visited the greater area a number of times. The area has certainly changed. It was pretty quiet today mid-late afternoon, perfect for a walk around some of the tracks picking up a few caches. All in good order, signed log and replaced as found. Thanks One-Fang for the cache.
Found with SJT_NZ during an afternoon of caching while on a family visit to Chch. All in good order. Signed log and replaced as found. Thanks One-Fang for the cache.
Wow, we discovered this park while navigating to geocaches. We negotiated our way here on our bikes. Good to see directional tracks for safety. Random to see these rocks and obviously they have been there for many years. Thanks for the placement One-fang
Novel collection of stonesthe grandies would love them ..enjoying these MTB tracks..not super busy today but I can see that they are well used..cache found all good thanks one-fang
Found when out geocaching with Busypaws and this is an interesting wee spot
Very interesting spot. we wish there was more of a story to read! TFTC Jude_E Found easily with LW today, on foot.
Found with NZDi. It is Waitangi Weekend and NZDi decides she wants to spend a few days in Christchurch to do some retail therapy. A couple of our grandchildren have birthdays coming up and she can't find anything suitable in the local stores in Blenheim and is hoping the big city has a better selection. The plan is to travel south on Friday caching along SH 1, do the shopping on Saturday morning and cache out at the McLeans Island MTB park in the afternoon, then head home on Sunday with a detour to cache the K2R- Passchendaele Memorial Path between Kaiapoi and Rangiora (I guess that is what K2R stands for). Throughout the weekend we dated and signed our logs in full, as KM + ND or a combination of both depending on the room available on the sheet/book.
Today is day two of the trip and a continuation of a visit we made to the area just before the country went into Level 4 Lockdown in March 2020 when we cached the horse riding area on foot. This time we came prepared with our MTBs and a plan which included getting 22 caches (18 traditionals and 4 puzzles) in and adjacent to the mountain bike tracks. I don't usually do full copy and paste logs when geocaching, but this time I am going to make an exception because all of the caches we found today were pretty much the same and when doing a power trail or similar cache run like this one cache runs into the next and it is really hard to write something special about each. As for the four puzzle caches, I was almost going to bypass them when planning todays adventure but decided to look at them anyway. 20 minutes later I had all four solved and their final coordinates altered on their respective cache pages, which is probably how things should go in a situation like this and a special thanks goes to the CO's of those caches for not making the puzzles too hard. Another thing I need to say, is that it is all fine sitting at your desk, looking at the map and deciding in what order you are going to get the caches. But as a hint to others reading this log, who are planning to do the same thing, try and find a specific map of the MTB tracks showing the direction they go as the wheels fell off our plan when we hit the first 'Wrong Way' sign about 2/3rds of the way through. It wasn't too much of a problem as the caches planned as No.s 12 to 17 were just reversed 17 to 12 and we just had to change the direction we approached No. 19 from. All-in-all I doubt if it lengthened our route by more than 100m all up.
Thank you to all the CO's for placing and maintaining your caches, I estimate all up it probably took us about four and a half hours and we achieved our aim with no DNF's needing to be logged.
This was our eleventh cache of the day (yay half way) and it was easy to work out where to stop an concentrate on what c:geo was telling us. A QEF.

Taking a spin around McLeans Island & picking up a few caches along the way. A quick search not far from the track and I was soon signing the log. TFTC
I'm visiting from Nelson, this was my first time riding at McLeans. Enjoyed it so much I didn't want to stop to look for caches! so I did a second lap, and even then I only stopped for this one.
A quick find, and the log is in perfect condition

Came out here after reading last log and found the log dry so am a little mystified. Added some waterproof paper since I was here.
Last cache on our bike ride, we didn't know the track, so it was a nice surprise. However the logbook was really wet, strange as the container looked in good condition. Thanks for taking us around, we would have stopped here anyway!
Quick find here, the rocks are a great feature. TFTC One-Fang, nice spot for one.
My last day in Christchurch and finally I get to take the bike for a spin!
I was out this way yesterday walking the dog, but today it is a different story.
So I made an early trip out here to do the groundwork for the Wherigo before finding these bike caches. And it was heaps of fun.
I like this track, with its long sweeping cambers and lack of tree roots it is a pleasure to ride. A few times I powered up but for the most part I kept it in check and kept an eye out for faster peddlers behind me. The tracks are well marked and all caches were grabbed with no backtracking. And there are some pretty good caches around here.
Following the bike park I did a few further down the road and mostly along the river stopbank before starting the trip home with a slight detour into Kaiapoi. Thanks all COs, no issues with any caches, all 34 today found and in good shape so thanks for maintaining and sorry for the cut and paste.

Had a lovely walk through the forest today with Pagenz, our host for the weekend and her dog. Interesting place for a collection of rocks and the cache was soon located, thanks
Great day at MTB track. Missed signs here and took this part of track to wrong direction. Luckily quiet around here today. TFTC.
Almost 9 years to the day I returned here with my 7 year old son. 9 years ago I was here with his mum going on a bike ride and we stopped here after discovering all of the painted rocks. This is where I made my 3rd ever cache find on that day. Almost 7000 caches later this crazy hobby has helped me explore the world. Today we came prepared and left one of our own painted rocks.
Things here have changed a lot!

Thanks for the cache

Few hours to kill while waiting to pick up my muggle nephew from the airport... So take a ride around the island

Quick find. Kids loved the painted rocks. Thanks to all cache owners for taking the time to place and maintain your caches. Team Broadbent aka TB (prev known as BJ25). Find # 1752
Nice quick find on a long walk with muggle friend. Easier territory than where I took her last week! Tftc.
Took a while to find this one. TFTC. Sorry about the delay in logging find
Today's walk was about 8km in a loop from the main carpark. It feels great to finally be getting more and more caches off my "too lazy" list. Walked over it a couple of times, then kicked myself! TFTC (3439)

Casual Sunday stroll with the fam - and of course, getting a few caches was neccessary too!! Gotta keep this streak addiction thing going!!
So, headed out this way, as a few recent summers strolls meant there wasn't too much left to clear out. Only two more!
So a fun quick wonder, and nice to clear this place up.

First time on my Bike for a very long time. Great Bike track, lots of people here. Thanks for the hide. All where it should be.
Last time we came from the side, but it seemed too much effort to continue for another 162m Great excuse to revisit today, although much more windy and busy this time. The name made all sense now! TFTC!!
One of a few caches whilst riding McLeans Island trails this morning. Reasonably simple find a few metres away from the track. #883. TFTC.
Found it on the 5th December but had to go back today 9 January 16 to remember the date and add some swapsies. Tftc
Loved the painted rock. Found while out with the Mega group Team Friday. TFTC

Very cool place to stop off today as we're starting to wind down to the end of our Team Friday adventure today. Parked up and went off in search of the cache and it was in hand before too long. TFTC
We are logging all our NZ MEGA 2015 caches after the event so that we can say how much we enjoyed our experience in Christchurch/Kaiapoi. The weather was perfect … the programme excellent … the organising team had really excelled themselves to provide a wonderful weekend. Congratulations to them all. We were also impressed with the sponsorship the management committee had managed to acquire – thanks to them also. We found your cache, One-Fang, on the McLean’s Island ‘walk’, organised and managed by Bald Ed, on the Friday before the MEGA got underway. We signed the log as, “Team Friday”. Thanks, Bald Ed for a great ride. TFTC.
I am in Christchurch for the mega as there will be to many caches to log I am logging standard caches for everyone. Thanks to everyone for placing their caches.
Found as part of Team Friday on the McLeans Island bike trip during NZMEGA15. This was a great place to bike with good trails. We really enjoyed this outing. Thanks for organising the tour. enjoyed looking at the rocks here.
This was the first for the team that came together for the organised bike ride. Evilno9, Phronimos, paddle chick, nanzie, infoferret, geopopnz, stardust718 and me, Tufty, and to save time in logging we called ourselves Team Friday. We had BaldEd to guide us.
This was the fifteenth cache on the ride around MacLeans Forest.
Cheers for the cache.

I had a few hours to spare today so decided to go out and find a few caches. I headed for this area attracted by the possibility of gaining a souvenir from the nearby T5 cache. I left my car at the River Rd car park and walked around the tracks and trails taking about 3.5 hours and finding 15 caches along the way. Doesn't look like some of these caches get many visits over winter. No problems finding it thought. TFTC, Biggles.

End of the school holidays so thought I'd bring two bored teenagers for a hoon round McLean's Island. That took care of their excess energy and I found a geocache. A win all round! TFTC.
Found with Laura374 - have passed by this many times, nice to finally tick this one off
