Might be disabled, but Etherlord took me here and it was very easy to find without a GPS. Will see if we can get Rattll to adopt it.
Due to a change in circumstance I am no longer able to keep this one going. Thanks to all those who have visited, I hope you learnt a little as I did. Thanks, waiiti20

Interesting spot to visit. I remember collecting health stamps as a kid, but never really knew anything of the camps etc. Well worth a visit while passing today.

An easy find and we enjoyed finding out about the Health Camps which were part of the school history
On a mild autumn day we decided to explore a road that we had not travelled on before as well as find some caches. We left Wanganui at 9.30 and our search started in Turakina at “Cameron Park “and then went up Turakina Valley road a road we had not travelled on before. Next stop was at “Turakina Health Camp” before exploring the winding but pretty road up the valley. We stopped off at Sutherlands Bush and followed the wet and muddy yellow track. We were amazed at the height of the trees and the continuous bird calls. We were rewarded by finding a cache at “Sutherlands Yellow.” We went onto “Sutherlands Mangahoe. “The road was under construction and when we found the spot to park it was very muddy with a slippery climb down to bridge across the river. The narrow path went up the fence line and was pretty but very slippery. We found the area of the cache but were unsuccessful in locating it and left after 45 minutes of searching with very wet feet from the boggy area around the grassy slopes.
We headed onto Hunterville and “Faithful” a multicache . As we could not locate the correct plaque at the church we headed off for lunch and a welcome drink. We guessed our way through the clues and headed across State highway 1 and located the cache by following clues in the description. We then located “A farmer’s best friend” also in Hunterville .
We headed back on State Highway 1 travelling south stopping off for “The Forgotten Highway” and “Brr brr Brucie” located in Bruce Park. This was another delightful walk through native bush and two successful cache finds.
Next stop was “The Wooden Bull” at Bulls and then onto “3 Dog Nite “ with a view overlooking Ohakea Airbase. As the day was getting on we headed back to Wanganui but when realised that one more cache would bring our total to 10 in a day we stopped at the Cameron Block House and the cache “Bullet Proof.”
Heading back to our car as the sun was setting we found that the car would not start and we needed to be rescued by the AA. Thank goodness it did not happen in one of the isolate stops earlier in the day.
We arrived home just as it was getting dark and reflected on a great day, new places and how much we enjoyed geocaching. We certainly could recommend this trip as a good day out with relatively easy finds especially for inexperienced novices like us.

A nice quick find. Great bit of history, and something we wouldn't have known about without geocaching. Thanks!
One of those fascinating little bits of history that you'd probably never hear about without geocaching, TFTC
Nice easy find...Have been through Turakina hundreds of times, though never here. Love the story, and the plaque, great bit of history.TFTC.
My Masters thesis included information about Dr. Elizabeth Gunn and the Leithbridge Farm Health Camp so nice to make a quick stop here heading north. TFTC
A quick find hindered by two farmers that decided to stop their vehicles right by the GZ to have a yarn. After 10 minutes I gave up waiting so pretended to tie shoes to retrieve the cache and after filling in log book, pretended to talk on mobile to replace in position. Right after this was completed, the two jolly farmers drove off. TFTC.
Quick stop off here, just as we parked a car turned down into the driveway beside the cache but didn;t take too much notice of us.
I had no idea such a lovely part of history happened right here. The Health Camp organisation continues in several camps in NZ, the nearest in Otaki I think.
It would be useful to say that whilst the children had no idea of the risks of UV exposure, the benefits of vitamin D (generated by sun exposure) are important and becoming more and more important as further discoveries are being made.
Although a quick and easy find it is great to have this spot pointed out, thanks.

#515. A quick stop on our way to New Plymouth. Thanks for the piece of history, SL, TFTC.
The Freezer Mice strike again!!!
On the way to Palmerston North for the afternoon, so enough time en-route to stop by and grab this cache.

PS. Canister had a bit of moisture in it so dried it out a little and put it in a small plastic bag. Hope this helps.
Straightforward find. Thanks for bringing us to this worthwhile and interesting piece of NZ history.
Suprise to see the monument Not sure what I was looking for maybe building our boys sunbathing but ejoyed reading about this interesting place. Easy find. TFTC
Great history, very interesting. On the way home from the orienteering. There is paper in the cache to sign, but no harm in a maintenance visit sometime. Cache is OK in the meantime. TFTC
The old log was a moldy mess and unreadable so we replaced it with a new plastic reseal bag and a new replacement log sheet. Interesting site. Thanks for the cache, waiiti20.
Nice quick easy find on a dash up to Hawera for the day. Great to have a cache in an area which is a bit thin on caches. Log is very wet and will be mush soon. NINO TFTC.
Had been advised by someone that they had put a fresh sheet in but obviously it's not the case. Also looks like someone has removed the plastic reseal bag it was in so will disable until I next come through.
sorry mate, would have put a new log in but didn't have any better paper than the previous pieces. Possibly needs a small plastic bag or "write in the rain" paper. Cannister must have dirt in the rim as I would have expected a better seal.
A quick easy find with nzcoozer. As the log was pretty wet, we added a new dry logsheet. TFTC
A place I had only heard about before. Quick find but log getting a bit damp and moldy.

Found on way back home from Wanganui. Log was damp but just managed to scribble name in number 24. SL, TNLN, TFTC
nice quick find thanks. Its great to have all these memorials to remind us or in most cases educate us. TFTC to bring me here. #1545
Just what the Doctor ordered. A nice quick find to finish off a weekends caching in the 'Naki'. Interesting bit of history here. SL TFTC
19:40 Very cool. I love trivial history segments like this. Read the plaque by the light of a torch. Thanks for bringing me here. Cheers, GC
Good spotting Waiiti20 to find this plaque, with its interesting history. Found at the end of a day trip exploring 4 different bush reserves on the back road from Hunterville to Turakina. These bush walks were done in the company of a large group of mid-week trampers from the Manawatu Tramping and Skiing Club. We saw many magnificent specimens of tall native trees during the day.
We stopped as dark was falling to quickly locate this cache having come through from Hunterville sussing out 4 of the Turakina reserves for a trip Possum is organising. Took a painted stone and left a small frying pan. Thanks for telling us about the Health Camp that was here. TFTC.
Quick driveby on the way to Wanganui. Not sure why the attributes say Not 24/7. Would be an easy find any time of the day or night. Interesting plaque. TFTC.
As a local I did know about the health camp that was here. Boy you have to be early to beat some people. Third to find. TFTC
we also got pipped at the post. Arrived about 8 a.m. as its not too far from where the kids catch the bus, but Yeetrees had beaten us to it! 2nd to find!
WOW another FTF (07:00), FTF, was a very quick driveby FTF as I was in the area for work, a very quick find, no issues here, nice spot for a monument. TFTC TNLNSL (1881) Yeetrees FTF craze came for a visit as well.
