We came to try and see the kiwi tonight (in the pouring rain) but we were not very successful! 2 of our group did see a glimpse of two and we heard them. We had so much fun. We tried this cache a few months ago now and I saw it has been replaced so while we walked past here tonight we thought we might turn a blue to yellow but sadly like others we could not find it. We found a suspect rock and a pencil but no cache to be seen!Hopefully 3rd time will be our charm.
No joy for me, I did have a bit of a poke around but there were a few muggles coming and going so couldn't really look properly, plus was running out of time as there were still a few to get before going back to the van!
We had a lovley walk after arriving the campground. Great information about all this birds we have seen allready . Tftc
A lovely morning walking the peninsular, and dodging muggles to find some caches.Startled a bunny rabbit guarding this cache, but a nice easy find. Thanks for the nicely maintained cache!

We couldn't find this one. Great info hut thought with lots of information def worth a visit. Hopefully it's reset and we can find it in the future on next visit.
DNF. Normally I'd search for at least 10 minutes, but based on other logs we didn't do an extensive search.
I saw that this cache had a lot of DNFs and maintenance request so I went to check it when I passed today as we found it last year. Its definitely not where it used to be any more. Needs a replacement.

Had another good look today and am sure that this one has gone AWOL - owner maintenance requested please.
We are staying in the area for a couple of days and came over to Tawharanui Marine Reserve for the day. Had a great day of walking and geocaching in spite of inclement weather at times. Last find of the day and sadly we just couldn't find it - maybe a case of cache blindness, but my phone didn't show the full hint - only just read it as I was logging this on my computer! I still have heaps to do on the peninsula, so hope to be back sometime to avenge this and pick up some others. Will wait for better weather though...
In the area today after Mrs stik-a-crane planed for a small group to explore the Regional Park that we had previously unsuccessfully tried booking camping time at......Seeing there were many caches in the park there was talk it may require a couple of visits to gather all the caches up for offer, but as my goal for the year is 3 cache finds per day, the thought of even gathering half the available caches was going to help my target.....plus to be able to explore the park a second or third time might not be a bad thing.....
The carer was booked for 24 hours, as we had a 5am start, joined up with the team and off we headed .....arrived at the carpark with only a few cars already parked and headed off to this cache after ticking off the available ad.lab locations....heading along the North coast trail to the end of the peninsula taking a few detours as needed, and as it was overcast and quite windy there was only a handful of muggles around......
Dropped TB, but noted no other TB's in the cache.....

Have had my eye on this park for a while but always assumed that we would need to stay close by as likely needed 2 days to complete the caches so hadn't got around to it. Mrs Stik-a-Crane came up with a plan to leave home at 5am and continue until complete and we should be able to get to most of them. From start of car park to return to car park GPS read 9:38 for time and 20.46km distance walked. We did continue with some of the others along the roadway afterwards but did not count those in the timings.
So much going on at this spot....so much to read, ad labs to find, trad to find...woo lucky it was early morning and we were still onto it!

We spent old years eve at the beach here and I grabbed a few of our group for a quick caching expedition. This was the first one of the short walk. Nice cache. Thanks.
In the waning hours of the afternoon, we found the cache amidst some lovely rocks. Great find and nice to sit on the stairs for a little rest afterwards
More info on web page not sure why the sentence wasn't continued past the p... But should be easy enough to find if you remember what colour rocks may be black when they are wet........ Retrieved some interesting looking TBs I will register now.

Lol just split my jeans bending down to reach it better than a couple weeks ago when I bruised my butt on some rocks in dedication to a cache! Living and learning and playing it safe. Zipper bag has a hole and some moisture getting in but still good. TFTC!

Found th is one with my niece and nephews today. They said there was also a dead rabbit in a trap under there!

Noticed some people hanging around by ground zero. Turns out we were all looking for the cache at the same time. TFTC.
Thought we were being caught by muggles until I heard them whispering about they might be looking for. So a bit of a joint effort.

After 7 weeks stuck in lockdown, finally the restrictions have been eased a little and caching within the region is allowed again. I was invited along by tramyard for a day out at Tāwharanui, ending up with over 60 finds and 10 hours spent in the regional park, as well as a couple of caches on the way there. The views, weather, and caches found were all brilliant, and I appreciate all the COs taking the time to highlight such a beautiful area with their caches.
Really nice to find a larger and older cache here. Didn't take too long either due to really good detail on the cache page. Good on you! TFTC

I was doing the local lab cache as well as some of the other trads I'd missed last time I was here, so this was certainly on my list today, nice easy find, cheers

Earlier in the month, a plan had been formed for Team G0LD, to make a one day raid on Tawharanui to try and find as many caches as possible. Friday night, the weather was looking decidedly dodgy and the forecast for Saturday wasn't that good either, but we decided to carry on anyway, and only head for home when the rain arrived.
Well, although it was windy and a little cold, the rain held off all day and we managed over 70 finds on our 18+ km walk around the park and surrounds.

I was keen to get all the months on my calendar up to a minimum of 200 finds. May was the lowest at only 84 finds. I talked to my friends and a plan was made. Today team G0LD Geocachers 0B80B8, Lis's crew and DaffyNZ headed down from Whangarei to do a big caching day in the cache rich reserve of Tawharanui. What fun 
We left home at 6am with a slightly dodgy weather forecast, walked lots of hills, got lots of caches but fortunately managed to stay dry all day. I got home 12 hours later tired, but very pleased with the day and about 70 finds closer to my target.
We were wandering around collecting the nearby caches and Ad Labs before setting off on our big walk out to the headland. A quick find here, TFTC

After finding a few more caches in the area today - came across this one. This was much easier than a few that we have done today. Found quite easily. Signed and replaced. TFTC
