Wow cracking view

WesternSydWanderer found this one with some assistance from the hint. I have done Mt Majura frequently and never thought to explore this track but definitely worth it for the views. TFTC

The coordinates for this seemed a bit out. I was searching all around the track, in all the likely spots according to the clue, to no avail. I gave up and kept walking down the hill. I happened to look back over my shoulder and I saw another likely spot. Lo and behold, there it was! It took a bit of effort to retrieve the cache, but I did so, signed the log, and put it back again. Thanks for another cache, 2 Leg Drive! * * * * *I set out this morning to approach Mt Majura from the northern side. My plan was to geocache my way to the summit, down the other side, find my way back to Majura Parkway, and geocache my way along the path, back to my car. I had a hot breakfast, packed my portable charging pack and a bottle of water, put on sunscreen and a hat, and set out.Everything went without a hitch for the first hour or so.Having made it to the summit, started down the other side, and found Third Time Lucky, I had trouble distinguishing the path downhill. So I just made a beeline for Majura Glen and walked/scrambled straight down into the ravine. It was as I found that geocache, my tenth for the morning, that I realised that Id left the cable to plug my phone into the charger in the car (Id be charging the phone as I drove here). At this point, I had about 42% battery remaining. I turned off all non-essential appsnstuff to conserve the battery.Given that I had just rejoined the path from an unorthodox direction, I wasnt 100% sure which way to go from there. A couple of men were walking from what looked like downhill. I asked them if that was the way downhill, and they confirmed that it was. It turns out that I asked the wrong question, and should have looked at the map on the geocaching app.I followed their path and found myself and Majuras Grand Duke. From there I followed a path west for a few hundred metres, then found that I was only getting further away from where I wanted to be. I went back to the intersection of the paths and followed a different one south for a few hundred metres. I realised, again, that I was not heading where I wanted to.At this point I pulled up Google Maps and tried to work out the quickest way back to my car. It was, of course, back over the summit of Mount Majura. So I headed back to the intersection again and headed north. This allowed me to pick up Majura Meadow as I went. Once Id found that, I realised that, between me and the summit, was a crazy geocache called Majuras Madness. When Id looked at this from the top of the mountain Id decided that it was, indeed, madness to attempt it. Now, it was the shortest way back to the car.I followed the track as far as it went then just followed the compass on the app to the geocache. Down into a ravine and back up the side of the mountain, I followed wallaby trails, stopping regularly to catch my breath, check that I was going in the right direction, and choose a new headmark.I was very pleased to find the cache! I was less pleased to realise that the hardest part of the climb, up to the summit, was still ahead of me. I made regular stops to sip some water and to let my poor heart stop trying to thump out of my chest!I cannot tell you how pleased I was to make it back to the summit the second time that I climbed Mount Majura in one day. It was a far more pleasant walk down the hill back to the car

Geohubby (GeoTigerAce) and I are headed off on a 4 week holiday from Brisbane heading to Canberra, Parkes, Katoomba, Sydney, Melbourne, Ballarat, Dubbo, and Coonabarabran as our main stops, with lots of side stops along the way planned. A much needed road trip to take in the sites and spend some time away in nature.Over the course of our 4 weeks I wanted to focus on Australia's 'oldest' caches, and caches of interest (e.g., iconic locations, interesting locations, lots of favourite points, and places I have never been) as well as hitting my next milestone (#600). It has been a wonderful trip and we have seen so much, and spent a lot of time caching and exploring little places of interest. Thanks to all of the cache owners for maintaining these caches and bringing us to beautiful places on our travels, and challenging us to keep on looking at the world just a little bit differently. Lots of memories have been made.Day 5: TripCache #19: I climbed a mountain - so freaking proud of myself. It wasn't an easy trek (particularly the parts where I was on hands and needs crawling up a waterfall haha!)....but, I did it. Log signed and replaced - all good here. TFTC.

Away on a road trip holiday with CaptainKirky, head South from Brisbane. Thought we would do some caching today, well I must say this find has been one adventurous one. When doing this find please make sure to wear suitable footwear, and make sure you know where you are going to step. Other than that the views are great, and a good find once you get to the area you need to be.

Find # 8604

Making the most of the opportunity to duck out for a few hours of caching fun. Seeking out the occasional challenge or two, or trying to mop up as many solves as I can to keep that long list under control. Seems to increase faster than it decreases

Signed as pantspeople. Great old cache in top nick. Thanks 2 Leg Drive. Nice work on the spray painted geocaching logo!

After a big trek from near the summit, we found it on the spot. We need more to these in Canberra. TFTC

Cache 9548 on 2 Jan 2023.

Decided to head out for a solo caching mission this morning before it got hot. Aimed to pick up two puzzles long solved, then felt so excited, I decided to climb the hill to grab an old cache long on my radar. Then I was so excited from that achievement, I rewarded myself with two more caches heading back to the car! Started walking around 0710 when most of the hill was in shade, but the sun was well and truly making itself felt on my way back to the car three hours later. Tired and sore, but also feeling accomplished!

This was the prize cache I was after and had being eyeing off for years, but the time was never right. Today may not have been perfect with the warm weather and the long grass, but some days, you just have to say “what the f***”! So I kept going up the hill until the contours looked about right then followed the compass to the cache through the grass. I was so exited to see the metres count down and the cache was finally in sight! It took a little extra effort to remove it from its hide, but worth it! You can tell how happy I am from the photo! Good to browse some of the old logs, in those days, more effort went into the physical log.

Thanks 2 Leg Drive for the old cache and the fun! Fav point for keeping this old one in play!

#1893 This cache was Second time lucky for me. When here at the end of January I failed to locate any easy access (even though it does exist) and basically ran out of time. Today I was on the trail of a Multi and this one was in an almost direct line “straight uphill” between waypoints. So this I did and claimed the booty before locating the “access trail” on my continued ascent. All in good fun though. Thanks 2 Leg Drive for keeping this cache alive.

31-Oct-21
Had to poke around for a bit before finding it. Nice walk up to it - word of advice to everyone else, it's best to not continue down the path it's on and to just turn around and go back (seems logical I know) - it quickly becomes a very slippery slope.

Great spot

Good views, good flowers, always love this type of cache.

Out for a blast around the local trails. I made the detour to this one. A bit of a nasty climb on the bike, but still rideable. Abandoned the bike about 90m from GZ and hiked to the cache. Great to find an ammo can and such an old cache. Big Grin

15-Oct-20
The GeoHound and I had an 11.3 km ramble around Mt Majura thismorning collecting traditional caches. This cache was a straightforward find at GZ, thank you!

A day of caching with geobuddy Taijuska in Canberra. We had a few caches marked as interesting ones to search for plus many random distractions enroute.

This was on our list as an older cache. Found quickly after puffing our way up.

Thanks to 2 Leg Drive for the placement and fun.

It was a nice morning for a walk so I decided to hike up here and go for this cache. I certainly worked up a sweat before reaching GZ. Once there the cache was obvious, some of the covering camo had been knocked off. Log stamped, I was the first visitor this year, and all replaced and I tried to increase the cover. Then back down to where I'd parked. TFTC.

Did a massive effort today together with J+J.AU to clear mt Majura and mt Ainslie. Lots of walking up and down and not many tracks here and there. Great weather and good company. Thanks for the cache placement.

International Geocaching day ... So - of course there was a group Geocaching adventure organised for the day. The suggestion was made to come and do Basil's Monster Mega Mount Majura Meander, and whatever else we could find while we were at it Smile
So ... A group of us met at the arranged place, and had a fun day doing the multi, and about 8 other caches while we were in the area, before heading on to the event at "Jammo" (and from there, I dashed off to Ainslie for dinner with a group of people I know from one of my other special interests - patchwork/quilting Smile

TFTC - Swapped some swag Smile

It's International Geocaching Day, so a group of us - Darksidedan, KittyKatch, Joolay, Sebass14, Jonasani, GLISS!, Akayam, Isopeda and I - took on Basil's Monster Mega Mount Majura Meander to celebrate and found a few others on the way.

Our reward for climbing up from Majura Glen - a 2001 cache and an awesome view.

Today I finally made a start on Mt Majura, having cleaned out Mt Ainslie, Majura looked a bit unsightly on my map. So with a few puzzles soved, some on the way, some not, I set off to see how far I would get.

Sure enough I got to the radar OK, though I did need a few stops on the way up, thankfully there were caches at convenient places.

Its been a long time coming for me to grab this 2001, I love oldies and I have done old ones all over the world. At GZ I was pleased to see an ammo can, I am confident this one should survive Wink

19-Apr-19
Approach included pushing rather than riding the MTB up significant gnarly hills so a bit of huff‘ n puff required! Very keen to find a few old caches so glad to see this one. A time lapse of the view could be of interest. Here for the MEGA and the NFF so it’s a big week when u throw in some MTB and visiting the Capital TFTC

We have arrived in Canberra early so that we are able to find a few target caches before the Clear Waters Mega Event at Easter commences. We have already managed to complete the 9th loop of our D/T grid on this trip Surprised so now our goal is to find some of the oldest caches that Canberra has to offer Cool to complete some of the available geo art Razz and work toward our 10th loop Surprised Fortunately we have been able to stay a few nights with one of the local caching teams and even better, they are located fairly close to many of our target caches [^]

We had an enjoyable time visiting various locations and mostly found each cache easily enough. With our name added to the log book, we continued on our quest Wink

Thank you 2 Leg Drive for placing the cache and for maintaining it for everyone to enjoy Big Grin

15-Apr-19
This cache was the reason we walked from the gate - an old cache that will be the last one needed for a challenge. It was also the closest to where we were staying. Yes, you know it's an old cache when you get an invigorating walk, sensational views, a big container and an exercise book log. Great to see one of ACT's geocaching national treasures is still looking as good as the day it was placed. TFTC 2 Leg Drive.

  Another Day of Geocaching

I headed off early for the Monday evening Omnia walk to Mount Majura which gave me three hours in which to seek out geocaches in that area that I hadn’t previously found, collecting 13 in all. I reckon that I explored most of the mountain and I came to appreciate the casuarina groves, the numerous kurrajong trees and the many fine views over the airport, North Canberra and Gungahlin.
This cache was a straightforward find, being in an obvious spot close to the coordinates. Thank you 2 leg drive for installing and maintaining this cache.

Apologies for logging late. TFTC and trackable - a travelling we will go !

Out for a walk and a cache. Love this spot. Great views. Thank you for placing this here and giving me a reason to discover another beautiful part of Mt Mahura.
A tad windy with a touch of chilly in the air today.

22-Feb-18
I was actually doing Basil's Monster Mega Majura Masochists' Meander. But it seemed to be taking me past this one. So I climbed straight up the ridge to pick this one up. There were some good views and lots of wallabies leading the way. Ultimately, it was not the best way. (The spur track from the main road up the mountain is easiest.) I have attached photos from about 80m from the cache. TFTC

What should we do on the hottest Canberra day in several years? Oh yeah, let's go geocaching! We loaded the backpack with water, grabbed The Woofer, and headed out to tackle the caches on the Watson/Hackett side of Mount Majura. Despite leaving home at 6am, it was already hot by the time we arrived, and after more than 4 hours of climbing (up, and up, and up) we were ready for a cold shower and some air-con. We had fun though, and found 15 caches, including 4 previously solved puzzles, so we were happy to tick those off. Left goodies whenever we could.

We weren't going to do this one today, but since we ended up higher than expected with a nearby cache, decided to grab this one, too. A nice easy find, and some great views. TFTC! Smile

Got here the hard way! TFTC. Left a TB.

During the middle of a hot Saturday, what else are you going to do but walk up your city's highest mountain looking for geocaches? Not surprisingly there were few people on the mountain today as I huffed and occasionally puffed my way around.

After finding Majura Glen I strode off along the track, certain I was headed towards this cache. 400 or so metres later a check of my GPS revealed I was completely run (some bit of the description had stuck in my head). Oh well. A multi and summit later and I went across country to this lovely spot. TNLNSL TFTC Smile

Random draft log word for this cache: Dead phone battery (which is actually a non-random explanation for why there is no draft log word)

29-Oct-17
Perhaps we did this hardest coming from the bottom the way we did but collected four other caches along the way. Sat at the top and ate breakfast with the cool breeze and views, a nice break reading the details of the cache and the poor other cache placements! Glad this one worked out, thanks for the cache 2 Leg Drive.

29-Oct-17
Out for a mornings cache run with Aquilus1. That was steep coming up the hill! But we made it and so we sat and ate breakfast before heading off to the next cache. Down another steep hill. TFTC 2 Leg Drive!!!

#2253 Spent 4.5 hours finding 20 caches today. Sunny 16 degrees. Parked at the gate and walked all the way up & now back down the other side. Quick find with The Banker. SLTNLN. TFBUH 2 Leg Drive.

Beautiful spot, however no pen/cil to sign the paper log book. Thanks

10-Apr-17
Found this after hiking up to the top with the geohound. We dodged the rain and had a beautiful afternoon.

Attached is a photo of the cache guardian. Neoparassus sp (Badge Huntsman) was sitting right on the handle and stayed there all the time I was signing the logs. She only moved when I was about to close the cache and nearly got herself squashed. I managed to get her off an under the log. Of course she may move back to her digs. You can't miss her when you find the cache. Smile

Loved the view!

There is something very cool about a big cache on top of a mountain. Easy find with lots of swaps. Great views too. I have taken the geocoin to move along to a new cache. Thanks for the cache it was worth the climb

29-Dec-16
Thought we could drive to top of mountain and walk from there. Turns out not. Weren't up for walking that far today. We'll try Black Mountain instead. Perhaps another day.

18-Dec-16
Walked from below the GZ. It was quite steep and tricky walk, but made it all the way up Smile
There were many lookout places.
Dropped a TB.

Down in Canberra collecting some caches today, while we have the bikes with us we thought we would tackle some of the once on this mountain, this was one of a couple we grabbed a smiley for, by the time we got to this we were just done for the day, but couldn't pass the opportunity for an oldie. Realised I was about to bypass a 2001 cache, so doubled back up the hill. Was worth it. Good container. TFTC and placing it for a wonderful view.

A nice cache for 3rd time lucky. Big container, challenge to get to and cool. Tftc.

#5692 @1935
As I'm aiming to do the Old School Challenge sometime soon with ZQX, I thought I better catch up and find some more of the necessary caches. With the hot days, an evening excursion seemed best, but it was still very hot getting up to GZ. I was focused on this and bypassed a couple of other trads on the way, but got them on the way down. Well worth the effort with the views between the trees. TFTC.

10-Sep-15
That ain't no mint tin! Lovely views of the sunset from here. I'm fairly sure this is the oldest cache I've found in my albeit short caching career (392 finds too date) - nice work on keeping it alive - also nice to read through the old logbook. Thanks, Two leg drive!

23-Aug-15
Its great to find such an old cache, and wow the story behind it is amazing! It certainly is third time lucky, after 14 years the original logbook still exists :O

Thanks so much for this cache 2 Leg Drive, glad to see its success lets hope it lasts forever Wink I'm sure the luck isn't running out any time soon

Dropping TB. Longer log to follow.

20-Aug-15
This was my main target for my visit this week as it fills a box on the JASMER chart which I wouldn't be able to achieve in Qld.
I came pounding straight up from Majura Glen which meant I was puffing by the top but thankfully I approached the GZ from the right angle to make an immediate find.
I sat on the log, opened the ammo can and enjoyed a read of the logbook which has been here for so long. Took a few photos of the views and then was on my way. TFTC and long may it remain. I dropped a TB too.

Straight up from Majura Glen - wowza that's a killer. Took it pretty slow with regular rests but the legs were still aching. Love seeing these old old caches [^]. Kudos for keeping it going so long! All in excellent condition here and the views were amazing. Thanks 2 Leg Drive Big Grin

On our way to the summit today we detoured to find this cache. The weather was beautiful; blue sky and a cool Autumn wind.
The cache was safe and dry after the recent rains in Canberra over the last couple of days. Thanks for the exercise, the bushwalk and the cache.

I can see my house from here! Never get tired of this view. Assaulted straight up the guts from the base of the western flank. Cache and had time to watch the sun dip into the Brindies. Thanks for bringing me here.

22-Feb-15
A nice warm summer's day of about 29C. I've had Mt Majura mapped out for a while and have been doing it in parts. Today I parked the car at the gates of the Mt Majura summit road and took off on foot. After reading TE's "Wondrous Wall II" description, I noticed there was fence remnants at this spot. A nice large cache. tftc 2LD.

As I had the week off from work I have been getting out and about grabbing a number of caches each day, today it was Mt Majura. As the weather was working in my favour, I decided to take a "stroll" up to the top of Mt Majura and grab as many caches were in the area. This one was the reason for coming out here today, all I wanted to achieve was to have this down as "found". After making my way from "Majura Madness" the route wasn't that difficult and after a quick look around I soon spotted the cache in question. The views from here are quite spectacular and I decided to take a seat and have a read at some of the previous log entries. This one has really been here for some time and I wondered how much the view had changed over the years and I wondered how long this cache would stay in the area. As today is my brothers 50th B/Day, I made a special mention to him in the log, and if I'm here in 6 years time, I will come back and place an entry in for my 50th, it's the small things that matter Smile. This is a great cache, thank you 2 Leg Drive for bringing me up here and making a special memory for me. TFTC - Docadoo Smile
P.S this was number 6 for me today

#2549 - 17:00; I headed out this afternoon on a mission around Mount Majura to clear a few caches which had been working their way up my iPhone top 30 closest to home. I had started with number 33 on the list, but what the heck, you have to start somewhere. I then warmed up with a couple more outside of the top thirty before picking off a few on the right side of the thirty. This was number 23 on the list and the seventh of ten for the afternoon. Made my way up the hill to GZ with regular stops along the way. Started the search and soon had the cache in hand and log signed before dropping a TB and pathtag and heading off on the next leg of the mission. TFTC 2 Leg Drive Smile

I climbed up the steep slope from a small bridge on the walking trail. There was ice making it slippery. Good exercise. TFTC.

13-Jul-14
A steep climb through the bush, but a good view as a reward. I could see snow in the distance. I dropped off the TB 'Travel Bug Dog Tag'. TFTC 2 Leg Drive.

04-Jul-14
Seeing this is my oldest cache and also one of the first few caches placed in the ACT back in October 2001,I thought I'd better come up here and give it a little TLC. I had purchased an ammo can about a year ago for this purpose so today was the day to make it happen.

But first things first. A few other caches to be found in the local area. 6 If I remember correctly. It felt like more with all this steep rocky, woody country. Hard yakka.

All the good contents were moved to the new ammo can with the original log book. It still has a few pages left and is in good nick. Ive placed a new log book in there as well for when it runs out. Ive added a few new swaps as well.

So hopefully this cache is ready for another 13 years or service.

Happy hunting......

A nice large cache. Decided to take a direct path to here from Majura Meadow after incorrectly estimating the size of the slope. I would not recommend doing that. I did however find myself at the top, which made getting to the radar station much easier. TFTC!
