No finds for over a year and recent DNFs from some very experienced cachers. The CO doesn't seem to be responding to maintenance requests any more so it's probably time to bury this.
I was looking at this as a possible target today, but seeing only DNFs for the last year I cried off. Earlier logs suggest this should be fairly straightforward, but experienced cachers aren't finding it now.
Could the CO check up on it please?
Could the CO check up on it please?
I read the hint and previous logs so had a reasonable idea as to where the cache would be hiding, but there was no sign of it.
I had a look around the GZ at all the places I would expect to find a cache in this sort of hiding area. Didn't see anything. So read the hint and a few logs. That made me think of a hiding option and a spot that suggested it was muggled. So gave up and went to the next one. But then reading more logs at home I now wonder if it was hidden somewhere else and I didn't do a thorough enough check. Oh well will look again in the future. Interesting project that I was not aware of.
We thought we saw a sheep, then a pony so called it a sheepland pony. Nice short walk in the rain with two over-energised beans. Tftc
Went looking for this one, stopped by an item of interest, then a minute or two later went off to find the GC only to realise I'd be looking straight at it for the last minute. Sometimes they are hidden in plain sight! #17
A quick find - but I suspect the cache has crept some distance from its original location. I was a bit nervous ... the gravel road looked very "private", but when one has just broken a rule never to drive to a cache if that's the only reason for getting in the car, well, trespassing didn't seem so criminal! Of course, it was perfectly in order to wander up the road, where I enjoyed reading the notice boards highlighting the Eco restoration work being done, and taking note of all the unexplored tracks. Tftc and for bringing me to this interesting area.
Had to wait around for ages for muggles to leave. We must have read the information board a few times over! And discussed our 'plans' on the map in great detail. Quick find once they left, is the cache supposed to be there?
Found it had no pen, needed pincers to get it out with Metsy89. Nice trails though
Decided to get this one on a whim so didn't have a pen with me. Used sticks to get it out though.
Interesting sign. I didn't know that all these tracks existed. Looked about for the cache and then decided that it must be the container that is in plain sight. Now, how do I extract it? Luckily I had my tools in the car. First time that I have had to use a cache extraction tool!!!

#521 Found last week on a cold day - started raining just as I got out of the car - very glad I drove up the drive way. Interesting place - too bad the weather was too horrid to look about a bit more. TFTC
Cache # 1,879 - as with many other finders, I was a bit wary of going up the driveway, and decided to walk. Should not have worried, as the information board clearly makes everyone welcome to the area. A lovely building, and great area, and very glad to have been brought here. Took a few minutes, but found the cache, with no sign of anyone in the area. Nice hide. TNLNSL. TFTC!
Was a little apprehensive walking up the gravel drive. Took photos of the sign boards to read at my leisure. Some traveller caravans parked nearby so did a quick behind the scenes collect and sign of the logbook.
Decided not to attempt to drive up. A short walk later the cache was in hand. TFTC
Never knew this place existed so thanks for bringing me here. Nice location for a cache, and found it pretty fast.
Second go at this one, in daylight this time, but I had trouble locating the cache until I made my way along the other side of the infor board and found something interseting on the ground. Oops there it is. Replaced back to the northern end well tucked up. TFTC
Thanks for bringing me here! A good piece of information, snuggly wee hide, and it was good to find some tracks I could use in the future
Didn't know this restoration area was here so we enjoyed our walk and the chance to learn more about the area. Tftc
One of a number of ex-DNFs today. I have no idea why I could not find this last time - it was a fairly obvious place. Saw a really cool building on the way here, grabbed a phone on the way back, along the back road. It wasn't till I got home to log the cache that I realised that it was the wharenui! (My GPSr does not do photos) Not your normal Maori building!

Quite a bit of time spent reading the entire notice board ... but finally retrieved. The local cat was of no help whatsoever. TFTC.
After finding 'In the Rough' decided to go for a little walk exploring. Wandered around the hillside, discovered Union Road and the Home of Compassions original water reservoir before popping out of the bush near this cache. Great to see that the Manawa Karioi Ecological Restoration Project is having a positive effect on the local bush. Interesting reading of the sign and located the cache on a second look, nicely hidden. TFTC
Staying at the sisters for compassion while attending a meeting so the natural thing to do in the evening is to go for a walk and geocache.
I don't know how I missed this one last time I was through. It was a quick find today.
Found quickly - unusual cache container - haven't seen one like that before ! Signed and replaced on a quiet Saturday with nobody else around. TFTC.
A bit windy out and about today but the rain held off so found a few on my afternoon walk. TFTC
TFT(informative)C. Loved learning about this project and seeing a new part of the city.
I had besmirched this poor cache for many months due to DNFs from very experienced cachers. Finally I was encouraged be some recent Found logs. I'm sorry Manawa Karioi, I should never have doubted you! TFTC
Not sure how we missed the cache on our last visit - maybe it was the compass direction in the hint, not quite where we thought it should be.
We were lazy today and drove close to GZ - road is a bit rutted, but the corona seemed to handle it OK.

#3403. Don't know how we missed this one last time. The cache is well worth visiting to take a look at the marae; I've never seen one like this before! TFTC.
We will join in with the DNFers by torchlight. Nice spot, shame about the missing cache.
Interesting place, pity we didn't find the cache. Notice that it hasn't been found since May, may be worth an owner check.
I was expecting this one to be easy, unfortunately I didn't come up with the goods. i did find a large weta under one of the posts though so that made it worth while.
Interesting area which I will have to come back to sometime to explore further. TFTC.
This was our last find for the day in IB, winding up a mostly Felix! experience. What would IB caching be without Felix! we wonder?
Made the find here without too much bother, cache in order, signed the log and replaced safely, as found.
An intriguing mix of marae, hippy and house trucking seems to exist side by side up here in the tsunami safe zone. Most eccentric indeed.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

Found it easily enough, but returning it wasn't. I slipped and bruised my upper right back. I got it back in the end though. TFTC
Had to take an exceptional amount of interest in the contents of the board owing to the fact that I was visible to a group of young manuhiri (visitors) who had obviously stayed the weekend and were getting into vans to head home.
But at least this gave me a chance to study the map as to what areas are and are not open to the public- please refer to my comments on the Marae cache. To summarise there is no problem with accessing the driveway or paths including the location of this board as long as you keep away from certain specified out of bounds areas, and as previously mentioned as long as you do not go past the gateway at the bottom unless by arrangement and with an official welcome.
Took me longer than it should have to spot the cache, but at least I got there this time!
A couple of TBs came visiting.

An unusual spot, all sorts of odds and sods (quite literally) all about the place. Really great to see such a project being carried out and lots of information, didn't have time to read it all.

Thanks for bringing us here very interesting to read the signs. We parked on the road and walked down the drive. Would love to have explored the tracks but felt it was going to rain with a vengence any minute - almost ran back to the car - but unbelievably it stayed dry all the way until we returned the car to the airport. NINO TFTC
What an interesting place here.. Had no idea this even existed.. Took a walk with MyCro Man to this one. Don't forget to have a look over the "edge" nearby at the Pond.. Really nicely done especially the lizard.. Thanks for the cache..
An interesting area, geocaching is great for introducing to places we wouldn't normally know to visit. #1434
Easy find ...locals out today....nice place to visit...This area is public ground so access is easy and great to let people know what is in the area.
Came down fron the cache up the top to do this one. This certainly is a very interesting area with a variety of eclectic buildings/housetrucks. We never knew this part of Wellington existed. Quick find, TFTC
Don't know where I went wrong with this one, wasn't going to post unless there were some indications of it being missing.
However it gives me an opportunity to comment on the access issue. It is totally unacceptable and a breach of protocol to go onto a marae without being officially welcomed. Therefore anywhere from the gateway to the marae onwards towards the marae buildings (the gateway being the one at the bottom of the track just south of the Manawa Karioi noticeboard) should be treated as out of bounds unless you are there as part of an official group with business on a marae and welcomed on with the correct protocol. Anyone casually wandering onto the marae grounds would certainly not do themselves or geocaching any good. Was very interested to read the noticeboard some of the history of the person described is something I have taken considerable interest in, and enjoyed reading the rest too. Looking forward to another attack on the cache with hopefully better results but I ran out of options- didn't have the clue with me but was looking where it fitted!

Yes this is public land and so are all of the tracks running form here - entering the marae is a different story and you probably need to ask for permission. The house-bus is an obstackle, but if you stand and read the info board for a while, they probably will ignore you. Hints now added. TFTC Felix!
Certainly an unusual area. If it wasn't for the information board it looks like a cross between someone's backyard, an industrial area and camper park. Quickly found cache SL TFTC
Was a bit wary about the housebus nearby but fortunately there didn't appear to be anyone home on the day we visited. Found easily without any problems. Another interesting spot. TFTC.
Found this one quickly, no issues here BUT need to beware of muggles appearing out of nowhere as there is tracks all over the place. TFTC TNLNSL (1937)
Maybe have to try another time, I didn't feel at all comfortable here this morning. The house bus at GZ was most unsettling, as were the looks I was getting from the Whanau coming and going. I take it we are allowed to be here.
Surpised to be the 4th visitor here. I know what Boxhill means in his log about the house bus - it appear empty at my visit, but belongings scattered about, so obviously occupied. As it is right next to GZ it could make it tricky if folk are in residence. Made a quick and easy driveby find just before some muggle dog walkers appeared.

2TF @ 1.50pm. Surprised to find I was the second visitor, having waited for a break in the weather to make the push to cache No 200.
Walked on to here with the help of a torch in the dusk this evening after finding "In the Rough", and had an interesting tour around the back of the marae and gardens on the way. Found the cache reasonably quickly and walked back out through the marae to the road. What an unusual place! Signed log, TFTC.
#1378. FTF @ 21:40. A very interesting area. Thanks for bringing us here. GPS signals were rather challenging. TNLNSL. TFTC.
