Logs
Cache check while passing.Removed sodden log and replaced with RITR sheet. All good to go again.
Found it after previously failing/ rushing due to muggles. Log book completely dripping wet, couldn't sign.
Stymied for the second time today! Had a good look, but distracted a few times by muggles so maybe better luck next time on finding this one!
Argh, 2nd dnf for the day. Plenty of muggles on a lovely fine day in this gorgeoys gully. Good luck finding.
Found after nearly giving up but persevering paid off. Extremely wet so couldnt sign.
Today we went for a walk in The Grampians. How cool to have this nice nature area so close to home! We carefully planned our route to intersect with as many caches as possible and we found all of them but one. A great score on this lovely sunny winter's day. After hours of hiking and many hills up and down we were happy to be back at the car, carrying all those smiley's in our backpack
What a majestic tree, very nice. Also cool that they took an effort to protect it with this boardwalk. Took a while, searching along the edges, careful not to step over it, since that should not be needed. And after a while our efforts were rewarded by a healthy container, tftc!

Nice walk and a quick find once I was standing in the right spot. The rain caught up with me and I decided to retreat for now. TFTC!!
Made the decision to carry on up this lovely track to get this guy. Beautiful bush so it's worth a stroll even if you don't find anything. Not too tricky a cache to score with the helpful description and hint. Log is in a bit of a state though. It's damp, starting to fall apart and has ratty edges. TFTC
Last one for the day and second one where I wasn't sure when to start searching. The "loopy" walk made it hard to know when I'm close, but a previous log about a tree and the hint made it obvious then. Got there, knelt down for a better photo taking position and with the other hand managed to grab the cache.
Not a particularly nice day for sunny Nelson so the track was all but empty. Can’t believe what a whopper that tree is. TFTC!
Quick find here in the second place looked, all good with this cache. It is a fine specimen - I think I read it was a circa 1890 tree? A few souls on the walk today, one here which delayed the retrieval. TFTC B&W.
Second part of the day for us and we are up to the top of the Grampians via the track from Market Rd. This is only my second time up here, the first was at least a couple of years back. And after the small handful we got today, there are still plenty more geocaches for us to discover up here on future walks.

A whole day wandering the trails of the Grampians and a spot of geocaching thrown in as well. Lots of up's and downs while trying to cache the hill in an efficient manner. A fine day had the temp about right for this time of year.
This was No:13 and the last for today and after descending to GZ , soon had the cache in hand - all good here.

As many others have said and I agree, that is a magnificent tree! It is always good to see something like this in real life and without a cache here I wouldn't have had the experience. Thanks bumandworker.
Paddle chick and I headed up the Grampians to grab a few caches also I needed an Earthcache nice easy find Thanks for this cache bumandworker
Found with Tregearp, PCW (Pine Cone Wanderer) and OldTom1959.
An impressive specimen indeed. A quick find, signed log and replaced as found.
Thanks for another cache B&W.

a morning walk into the Grampians. Stunning tree. I always admire the bigger ones. Also had a couple of Kereru fly past us at eye level to really emphasise what a great spot this is. Thanks for the cache. And 431 m towards the DGSc distance challenge.
What a beautiful tree! Took us a bit of looking around but once we read the hint we found it and signed the log. Tftc
A quick find with the help of the hints, a nice loop walk on a fine day . TFTC.
Wow that surely is a magnifcent speciman. A muggle appeared but he was so busy running up the hill that he took no notice of us - he didn't even say hello, mind you we couldn't run up the hill let alone running and talking. We soon found the cache and carried on our way to the top of the hill. Thanks bumandworker for the cache
how many times I wanted to look off the track was too many. I overlooked this cache too many times. my mum found this one. Nice hide. I dropped off a trackable here too. Find #240.
Found with NZDi. Due to other family commitments, geocaching has been placed on the back burner for over a month. Now those duties have been fulfilled, today was the start of our geocaching catch up. During the week I had been exploring a couple of options for todays effort and settled on either a trip up Mount Duppa or head into the Grampians behind Nelson. We have previously been up Mount Duppa, but that was in the years BC (Before Geocaching) and as with a lot of walks in the area, this is another trip that we are going to have to do again. However we had a little shopping to do in Nelson before-hand and as we came through the Collin's Valley, we saw low cloud rolling over the top of the hills. On cresting the top of Gentle Annie on the way into Nelson, we were greeted with a beautiful 'blue sky day' which settled our plan to cache the Grampians, Nelson 's version of the Wither Hills Farm Park that we have in Blenheim, a veritable mecca of caches.
While formulating my plan to cache the Grampians I discovered a handy map produced by the Nelson City Council highlighting all the tracks. Using my desktop publishing skills, I overlaid all the caches located on the tracks, then formed a systematic plan to get them all. As it turned out, this was not going to be a one day effort, but I hop to clear them all out after my next visit.
After finding Agnupani, this was the next on our list. We occasionally glimpsed this mighty specimen from some distance away through the bush and looking at our map, were surprised to see it is the only protected tree in the reserve. Once at GZ it was obvious why a cache is needed here and it was a QEF thanks to the hint.

A quick find on the way up to the summit. Thanks.
ANZAC weekend time for a wee road trip. Ah Sunday, cruising around picking up the odd smiley.
Thanks to the CO's for the hides. Cheers.

Truly a mighty fine specimen.
Clearly, it's majesty went to my head as I spent a good while rooting around in some wrong spots before getting to the root of the problem by paying closer attention to my surroundings!
Good to get another Grampians cache knocked off.

No cloud cover today so this shady walk seemed the one to do, Once at GZ with help from a couple of walking companions found cache signed and returned,, awesome tree and enjoyed the walk as well, Thanx for bringing me here and Thanx4tc
[green] Suddenly I find this weekend is free, So capperz and I set off to the Pi Day event in Nelson. And to grab a few puzzles. Gotta get them souvenirs! And, since we are out there anyway, grab a few dozen caches along the way.
Friday was busy, culminating in some night caches to qualify for one of the papers for the Master in Geocaching Science, then we ended up at the start of this track to spend the night - we had brought our sleeping back and I brought my hoochie especially. This morning, way before dawn, we are up and on the track. Alas no find at Agnupani, I am hoping that is because there was not enough light. So we walked on to here and found this one instead. Would have liked to carry on, but we really need a whole day to do this series of walks.

A weekend trip to Nelson to attend the event then cache our way back to Blenheim via Brightwater, Wakefield and 88 Valley Road was hatched earlier in the week and with Pi Day kindly offering up not one, but two shiny souvenirs, it was agreed that we would head over the hill, again!
Saturday morning to the Event, sleep in the car Saturday night (for me, the Seagnoid would take his bivvy tent and sleeping bag) then a long and slow trip back to bag as many caches as possible. Somehow though, this was lost in communication and the Seagnoid kindly volunteered himself to be Joe le taxi on Saturday night so the whole thing was brought forward 24 hours. My G P S has packed a sad and won't work anymore so I was on borrowed equipment and hastily loaded a G S A K list of potential finds, and some solved puzzles, and off we set at about 5:30 from sunny Blenheim. Grabbed caches before it got too dark to keep going, and managed 6 by torch light which helps towards one of my missing M G S C attributes, yay, just the Events to go now to qualify. At last it's Pi day. Wake up after an uncomfortable and too warm, then warm enough, then too cold night.
Up the track behind where I'd parked the car and after a fruitless search for Agnupani we headed further on seeking treasure. didn't realize at the time that there was an earthcache up here too but do now!
No problems with the find, as per hint. Knocked with my hand and it started to roll but stopped within reaching distance

I feel sorry for the poor people that had to carry all the pieces up here to build this board walk!
Quick find and a nice spot for a rest TFTC

Not quite a 10 minute walk for us as we came from Collingwood St and I was very pleased to be heading downhill. Great specimen, and definitely deserves a cache. TFTC.
#8026. I wasn't expecting to see big native trees on these hills; good to see there are a few. TFTC.
I think it may have got washed away at some point - either that or it's really well hidden.
Very cool tree would have had no idea this was here without geocaching. Thanks
A lovely walk with Mum, Dad and our friends John and Chris, after a yummy breakfast at their place. TFTC
Found it 3rd find for today for my 5yr old.
Great part of nelson for being right in town.
Great spot for a cache wonderful old tree
Go a bit further up and there is another one (tree) nearly as cool

And very well protected it is too. What a wonderful specimen. I often think of kahikatea as being lowland, swamp country trees but I obviously need to get my facts right. TFTC
Nice to hear the birdsong as I walked along the track. Cache took a little longer than it should have to find
An early finish for Hazedarus today so we decided on a walk up the Grampians. This was the first cache on the track we hadn't already found and it took quite a bit of a search before we had it in hand. Eventually though we managed to earn a smilie. TFTC.
When I look outside from home I can see the Grampians yet haven't ventured there for years. I'm glad I made the effort today and re-acquaint myself with this fantastic place. It took longer than it should have but got that smilie. TFTC
What a beautiful tree. I've never been up this track before and can see another trip in the making to do some other caches in this area. TFTC
Was our 2nd today. Found it with Sebbey_NZ. Nice walk through The Grampians. Thank you for the cache / Merci pour la cache. Greetings from France !
GZ was easy to spot, but I was not having much luck, until I re-read the clue. then it was obvious. TFTC

Found after a short search while exploring in the area this afternoon - although not quite where I expected it to be. A very impressive tree! Signed log, TFTC.
Wow what a cool tree to look up at! Found the cache fairly easily, not where we expected it to be tho. Was in plain view so hid it a bit better! Thanks
Fantastic specimen, resorted to the hint along with Jackie of jackieandgrant. TFTC
A beautiful day for a walk, with dogs and the nickgastrell crowd.

Enjoyed another visit to this majestic old tree despite track still being "temporarily closed". Cache found fairly readily.
Bit of a wet start to the day, tough climb up to do some of the caches on the reserve. Soon had this cache located and signed. Nice location great tree. TFTC
No problem finding this one, on a very wet and slippery day up the Grampians, complete with hail storm. Naturally the sun came out for the first time just as we got back to the car ) TFTC.
Found with gonefishing on a wet walk up the Grampians. This one didn't take too long. TFTC
A nice quick find here, on a very wet day. Fortunately the canopy was protecting us from the worst of the rain. Certainly some great kahikatea specimens along this track.
TFTC.

We have no idea how we could have possibly missed this last time. Found today in about 5 seconds. We often stop here to admire the tree. Swapped coins.
A very pleasant walk today and an easy find. Just as well we had the clue as no reception for GPS!
Found with Prutsmitsnz on her first trip up the Grampians. My fourth trip up in less than a month (must find a new hill to climb).
Another amazing kahikatea - they truly are magnificent. You and your caches have certainly had a big place in the enjoyment I've had over the summer holiday break - thanks for that. TFTC #1861

Nice One!!!!!!!!One can only imagine what the pre-Maori and European era looked like when there were forests of these trees. Must have been really something. At first, tried to be a bit clever with the find and after 5 minutes or so a deftated ego forced common sense to take over and---- there it was. Always enjoy this walk. Much fun. Thanks
