Trip up to the Flinders doing some four wheel drive tracks. Had to find some caches along the way, introduced some muggles to caching. TFTC
A long weekend away with sir_spectre in the Flinders Ranges. We had each been here before and strangely had few double ups so some revisiting was in order to try to get our maps similar. The weather threw everything at us but we just made our plans suit the conditions. Lots of 4WD and walks included.
Thanks to Burton's from mogni

Day 2 of the trip was over to MERNA MORA station and do the " Bunbinyunna Track " and the " Wowee Track ". I good day to be in the 4x4 as it was 34 degrees. I enjoyed driving around these tracks and placed a couple of caches there myself.
Took Mogni for a trip to the Flinders Rangers for the long weekend with extra day either side. The target for the trip was to clear some of the " used to be a church " micro series on the way up and on the back as well, complete a couple of station tracks plus hike to Blinman Pools. We where not expecting a couple of 34 degree days then a 30 km wind dust storm followed by rain over night and then the wilpenda pound walls covered in fog for the next 1/2 a day. It did change our plans a little and the order we did things. All containers we found damaged, broken, cracked were replaced and were possible ( if not soaked ) original log books were kept. Any log books found full were replaced or if room had extra scrolls added in to the cache.

This was a great track and we enjoyed cruising around the Wilpena ramparts , with some serious up where the seat back holds your weight, rather than the seat bottom . Especially enjoyed driving the extension loop track (POI 25, turn right) [^].
A quick easy find as we travelled the track . TNLNSL.
Started to walk to the lookout, but realised after a 100 metres, we didn't have the time today and turned back . Maybe next time .
Thanks for one more Burton's.

Found by chance as we walked to the top of the Lookout, didnt do my research before leaving home. What a find! TFTC.
There had been some cache creep, which we fixed. Brad had an embarrassed look when I asked for the strings. Fortunately not required. The views are awesome. You would not believe how good they are if you have not been there.
Angorichina Adventure.
Brad&Janet , B2, Cache or Check and yours truly were conscripted by Freddo to further his ambitious plans… Plans to travel by 4WD into the heart of the Copper Country around Blinman, picking up targets of opportunity along the way, and to reset the clock on many lonely and unloved caches. The carrot for this journey was three days in the Flinders Ranges; good company; wine & beer, a few BBQ’d steaks & burgers, chilli/tuna & chipotle wraps; viewing sites from tracks and hills in the footsteps of Hans Heysen and to relax and get away from it all. Top it off with a Road Kill Grill at the Prairie Hotel, Parachilna and you have a great weekend. The weather, usually a negative component in these getaways, was perfect: clear nights, frosty sub-zero mornings and deep blue sunny skies. The moon, gloriously full, greeted us as it rose above the range each night, and farewelled itself as it dipped out of sight each morning. The final score for this mission: 10/10.
Another great spot to stop on this loop - and a good thing we did as on the way back to the 54H4R4, we discovered one of the tyres flat at the bottom. Before we wasted a good part of our day having fun changing it, we experimented and found it was a temporary leak and with replacement air, was back up. Off again on our trip.

This was the weekend of the "unloved road trip". A series of caches with various amounts of unloved were on the hit list. All of them were in the areas near Parachilna and Hawker and in between. Freddo and Malco! were in the Pahero while Brad, B2, and Cache_or_Check (aka FunkyGibbon) were in the ReverseTardis. Sadly janet had stayed home along with Ruff_Ruff, but B2 (like her brother J2) is a well qualified albeit only occasional member of the Brad&Janet team.
This was the next of the finds on the 4WD loop around the Merna Mora property. We had an awesome few hours with the five of us squeezed into the ReverseTardis. B2 and I had plenty of room in the front. Not so sure about Freddo and C_o_C on the outside in the rear who had the doors and windows to bounce off. But Malcolm-in-the-middle seemed to feel he had soft padding around him.
Prior to getting here we had to do the ascent. "Select lo-range and choose first gear" were the instructions. The ReverseTardis has an inclinometer so you can tell if you go above 20 degrees nose up. It has marks at 10, 2 and 30 degrees and a bit more unmarked. We went off scale with this one. This is the steepest sustained slope I have ever driven up but I only mentioned that after we got to the top.
We found the cache where it should not have been but replaced it where it should have been. Names and stamped were added to the log. Signed the visitors book too. Amazing views. You have to go there.
When we returned to the car the front right tyre was flat. Fortunately it seems it was a leak caused by a loose tyre-dog from when I had let the tyres down at the start of this side trip. On with the compressor and the tyre was re-inflated./ No leaking was heard so we continued on closely monitoring the tyre-dog readings.
Despite the flat tyre this one gets a fav.

This is the story of the Flinders Ranges trip of 4 men and a muggle, looking for ‘unlove’.
Freddo, Malco!, Brad (minus Janet but with B2) and myself spent 3 days in a 4WD exploring the remote sections of the Flinders Ranges in search of caches that had not been found for 6 months or more.
This cache will long be remembered by Brad I am sure. All the wizbang on-board computers went berserk when climbing the steep hill. Turns out he managed it with a flat tyre as well! Luckily it turned out to be a loose tyredog and no repairs or new tyre were required.
Once again fabulous views!

Phew! We were certainly glad to arrive here knowing that the worst of the track was over. What an amazing woman Elsie must have been - so forward thinking and visionary. No-one was thinking of tourism way back then but she could see the potential, and we're tipping she also wanted to share the beauty of her land with others. We certainly appreciate that now - this drive is very very good. Thought the clue was slightly misleading - we were widening our search unnecessarily. Beautiful views from here, a fitting place to remember Elsie. Thanks for the cache. Fav point.
Found with Cows with guns while he was showing me what a 4 wheel drive is meant for. An amazing track to follow.

In the Flinders for some well needed R&R with Debandy and a bucket load of caching as well.

A good test for the geocruiser up to this lookout. Great weather today but didn't have the energy to tackle the folly lookout.

That hill just before the turn off to Elsie’s Lookout was fun [^]. While I unearthed the cache, Auzee sorted out morning tea and as well as the cache, we got to put our name in the visitor’s logbook as well. What a beautiful spot.
After the big climb we came to Elsie's Lookout. We drove as close as we could to GZ and then parked up the Geo-Ute. The short walk to GZ was taxing enough being sore from the previous day and considering the day was rather warm we didn't walk all the way to the lookout. We signed the log and carefully placed the cache back to its hiding place. Also there is a visitor book to sign here as well

Loved the drive up to this cache - the track looked a bit challenging, but fairly easy in the Geoute for Nowhre2Bseen.
We found the cache easily enough, but didn't walk up to the next hill (was a little warm in the sun for us today). Signed the log, and carefully replaced. TFTC

We have known the property owners for years, but have never
done any of their 4WD tracks.
Elsie was a great woman, a great pioneer.
She use to make us feel very welcome when we visited.
Geohubby has done a lot of work for the family.
We are going to do the rest of the tracks
There are so many great sights.

Found the cache and also signed the visitors book. A great 4wd track with plenty of different scenery. Thx Burton's for the hide.
A very scenic drive into this area and great views from the lookout. Cache located quickly for a FTF. Also signed Visitors Book. Elsie was obviously quite a 'gutsy' lady bringing up the children and running Merna Mora after the tragic loss of her husband. And a pioneer of pastoral tourism in the Flinders to boot! Thanks Burton's for the cache.
