As this cache has been out of action for too long, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

I noticed that this cache has been in need of owner maintenance for an extended period of time well in excess of the period of "a few weeks" as contemplated by the cache guidelines published on Geocaching.com. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other caches from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can't do so forever. Please either repair/replace this cache, or archive it (using the archive listing link in the upper right) so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location.
If you plan on repairing this cache, please log a note to the cache (not email) and then repair the cache within the next 30 days so I don't archive the listing for non-communication/action.

Stopped here for the cache, wifi and lunch. The two latter parts were no problem, but the cache itself was not to be found (by us) sadly..
Gave up at 14:00 - together with aedk and Difool

Been to Gisborne for the NI National Daffodil Show and doing some caching with the Seagnoid, now on our way home. Thanks for the cache.
Here with Popmac on a geocaching / daffodil trip. Popmac grows daffodils and is taking a bunch to a daffodil tournament thingy in Gisborne with plans to cache along the way, and I came along for the ride. He won $100! Covers part of the petrol costs!
Popmac and I were unable to retrieve this cache on the way to Gisborne, there were two muggles sitting on the lighthouse steps. But I did manage to work out exactly where it was. On the way back, however it was an easy-peasy grab, in the first placce I looked. Log is quite damp, but we managed to sign anyway.

In town for a funeral, great spot for the kids to play.
Note - log book is wet.

Timing can't have been too bad as the area was trouble and muggle free for a quick find before again heading north

What an intersting spot. I don't think I've ever seen a lighthouse this far from the ocean. Nice easy find. Thanks Te Reo Maori.
We did it like YuGeo4 and grabbed some food from the nearby café after logging this cache.
Thanks for the good hide!

An interesting read about the history of this decommissioned Lighthouse and a nice quick find during a break in muggle foot traffic, off to grab some lunch from the nearby Osterleys Bakery & Cafe, many thanks for the cache.

Interesting little piece of history and pity we weren't there at night. Thanks for the cache and stop. Did with Mycro Man
Looked at hint (so I thought) and went for walk to find it without GPS. Got to lighthouse and couldn't remember the hint LOL - back to MIL's house to collect GPS and returned to complete.
Thanks for the history lesson.

I think I visited Wairoa about 35 yrs ago while I was working on a summer vacation job around Gisborne; however, I actually have no significant memories of it at all.
A lovely hot day, driving north, good place to stop (yet again!).
Fascinating - signs on the bridge advising that jumping into the river is forbidden, surrounded by people jumping and diving into the river!!
Quick find, fortunately everyone was off jumping - so no muggles around. TFTC.

15.25: On the way from Napier to Gisborne. A quick find at riverside and roadside after having picnic in the park nearby and strolling Wairoa CBD. Interesting story of the lighthouse.
Weather: clouds, 21°C;
Wheelchair: no problem at all;
State: good so far.
Thank you!

Driving north in company with Pprass, we passed through vast grazing and agricultural areas, never ceasing to be in awe of the rugged beauty of the coastal scenery. Being interested in all things nautical, this was a little gem.
TNLN . . SL . . Thanks for the hunt Te Reo Maori.

Found at 11:46 AM GAFF5 in the company of Phetlern. After a long drive we arrived here to a lovely little village and we were tempted to go in for some fish 'n chips as the aromas coming from the shops were very alluring. Do they have those white bait fritters here?
Made of wood eh! Haven't heard of that before and in any case we thought that kauri was virtually indestructible.
Thanks Te Reo Maori

Had to stop at the award winning bakery across the road for some lunch which I agree by the way is THE best bakery in NZ. Sat on the rock here to eat my lunch and carefully hunt for the cache at the same time.
Many thanks

Had a chat with a colourful local gentleman before was able to commence searching for the cache. Nice guy, reckoned his family help build the lighthouse. Once able to search unimpeded, cache was quickly located. TFTC

Greetings from Australia. Found on a great holiday/cache hunt with J+J.au. This trip we intend to only travel about the North island but we will revisit NZ and travel in the South island aswell. We really enjoy the sights in NZ and caching shows us things out of the norm aswell. SL..TFTC
We had to look a lot like tourists (which we were) and do lots of camera pointing while the searcher crouched, smiled and groped around in likely looking places. The ploy paid off. TFTC. Left a little dolphin.
Logging with delay. Nice place and good hide. Did it with a Belgium cacher

9.50am. Easy find at this very scenic spot. Just left the East Cape behind, heading for Napier. Thanks for the stop off spot. David and Noeline.

Used super stealth and nailed it in under a minute in the daytime with lotsa muggles about, slick eh? SL TFTC!
TFTC From N. Ireland Found quickly, which lifted our spirits after finding the pie shop closed!
Quick & almost easy find.
TFTC.
Looks like this cache and GC2WW3P It's the Wairoa International Airport, bro! have been swapped at some point as the container we found here was a tube and the log sheet said it was "It's the Wairoa International Airport, bro!". Unfortunately we didn't have time to do GC2WW3P It's the Wairoa International Airport, bro! today. - Hopefully we'll get it next week.

Found during a lunch stop here with a school group heading in to tramp Lake Waikaremoana. Didn't take too long to find, thanks for placing this cache at an interesting and pleasant spot.
FlyingPigSquadron has landed! Quick find in the rain which kept the muggles in the shops. TFTC&H Te Reo Maori
This place really deserves a cache so well done on the placement and thanks for the FTF. The logs for this and the airport one were in the opposite place but who cares. TFTC #2199
TFTC (In the posse that laid the cache orginally and not interested in FTFs). This lighthouse has an interesting history. Went down to the bar with a colleague and marvelled at those early mariners who crossed it...looked quite treacherous. A quick drive down to Napier on this business trip today.
