Looked around abit for this one not many spots so questioning if still here? Could owner check if still in play?
Actually had time to stop and grab this one today. Cooler and no wriggling sticks.
Thanks for the cache and a chance to get out for the afternoon.

Drove by today rather than look, was on my list but time got away from me. The 3, 2 and 4 chain roads are all old stock routes. I reckon you could still find the old stock reserves if you looked hard enough. Small paddocks with trees close to water. The Long Paddock, the road up north, is the classic route. They are all over Australia. And when the Joe Blake season is over, I am going to snag this cache!
Picked a hot day to go caching, planned to do last weekend but had knee problems (again) but today it was a quick find, the grass was shoulder high here so made plenty of noise to scare any wriggles, the cache was found quickly and a quick retreat was had. TFTC
Found with one partner looking up and one looking down. You won't guess which one was right! The log was dry. TFTC, tattboy1.
Another cache for a smiley? Yep! A short drive off the main highway had us at GZ, and the cache located as per the hint. All good so far. However, there was water in the cache itself, and the log book was totally saturated - it was impossible to separate any paper to write a log. So we cleaned the cache up and put a new log book in. We then built up a little base with sticks for the cache to rest on so that it is up out of the "water table".
Found at 11.50am on 23rd September 2015. TFTC,

#1523 Our 1st of 11 finds for the day. We had been past this cache last summer but wasn't keen to traverse the long grass, so we decided to drive on. Today we had far less concern so we stopped and found the cache quickly along this boring road. TFTC tattboy1.
Finally coordinates took us straight to it makes a difference with a new operator
I beg to differ - the Hume Highway is the most boring road to drive on. In fact it's sooo boring I actually choose to drive on any back road I can find, including this one, just to avoid the numbing drone of motoring along the Hume. Mind you though, at least the Hume contains most of the dipsticks to a stretch of black ribbon between Melbourne and Sydney!

On the way back from Rocky with Taddy the Muggle.
He was kind enough to pull up and let me go and find this cache.
We had just been to Buller's to get some bulk Tawny Port and after three days on the road, we were finally heading for home. (mine)
It was a quick find after walking through the long grass. I signed the log and replaced the cache in its hide.

From our base in Mulwala, the plan was to cache our way in an anti-clockwise loop along the Victorian side of the Murray to Wahgunyah and back along the NSW bank. Three chains or maybe three cricket pitches!
Feed back to CO: These containers are not renowned for being waterproof, which is probably why your log book is damp.
Our thanks to tattboy1 for bringing us here.

I had always wondered what the measuring chain looked like, so thanks for the picture on the caching logs. I was looking out for the 3 Chain Road sign but must have missed it. I seemed to be travelling on Federation Roads going east-west and north-south. Thanks very much for this cache, the log was slightly dampish. LNTN
I called past this avo with my mum as I was showing her a bit more about geocaching. I showed her this one as it was close and visited a TB. I was delighted that my App showed the name of the road as Three Chain Road - just a shame not too far down on the map it also said federation way thanks again Cheers TeamThommo
Day sixteen of my holidays, travelling from Hay to Bright, picking some caches along the way to break the journey. Found most, but missed a couple. I missed this one at first glance, then found it a few minutes later when I checked a bit harder.
My thanks to tattboy1 for the cache.

I can't tell you how much I am glad that this cache is called 3 chain and not federation something. This IS the 3 chain road and always will be to locals who grew up here before the 2000's. I agree it is a boring road and it is very easy to speed along, traffic cops love it along here! I'm home with my geo family for the weekend at my parents place in Wahgunyah so we stopped and grabbed this one on the way back to Gippsland today.
I can remember floods, fires, car accidents, flat tyres, yabbying trips, wheat and hay collection from various places along this road. I have friend who lives down nearby McPhersons Rd. Lots of memories. I listen to a wide variety of music (currently in the area this weekend to see the Hilltop hoods at the Kinross woolshed) and I'm not much of a country music fan but I do have a soft spot for Lee Kernaghan, I own most of his CD's. He grew up not far away in the Albury area and had family scattered across the district. He sings a beautiful song called "3 chain road" and I suspect it maybe about THIS 3 chain road as at one of his concerts he said it was written about a road near where he grew up. I have included a photo of a 'chain' that I found in a nearby abandoned house about 20 years ago. They were used to measure distance back in the day. TFTC tattboy1 SL TNLN TBV

Billy was a drover
He lived out on the three chain road
Fell in love with Mary and they married
She made his shack a home
He drove them off to Queensland
And it hurt to have to leave her on her own
But she promised she’d be waiting
When he brought the cattle home
There’s a lonesome wind blowing down
The three chain road tonight
It’s sending out a warning as she blows
Billy don’t go riding down
The three chain road tonight
The wind is crying Billy please don’t go
Billy came home early
He wasn’t due for many days
Walked into the cabin and found his Mary
In a strangers arms she lay
In the blindness of his anger
The fatal shots rang out from Billy’s gun
In that smoky silence he knew
And he wept for what he’d done
There’s a lonesome wind blowing down
The three chain road tonight
It’s sending out a warning as she blows
Billy don’t go riding down
The three chain road tonight
The wind is crying Billy please don’t go
Billy walked out slowly
He knew what must be done
Somewhere in the darkness a shot rang out
Billy’s time had come
They say his spirit’s out there
You can feel it every time the cold wind blows
It’s warding off the strangers
Who come by the three chain road
There’s a lonesome wind blowing down

[:(!] Went for a drive with the geowife for a couple hours, picking up a few caches along the way and this was one of them, parked the geoKa as close as possible to GZ and walked in from there, on arrival at GZ the cache was located and it was in hand in a matter of minutes.

What is a 3 Chain?
Well a chain is a unit of length, that originated in Britain once commonly used in surveying and measurement of land.
One Chain (100 links) is equivalent to roughly 20.1m which also the distance between wickets on a cricket pitch.
In Australia the standard road widths (the distance between properties on each side of the road), of all the different types of roads were set out using Chains as the preferred measurement of the time.
Half a Chain = standard width of a Laneway.
One Chain = standard width of roads in urban areas.
Two Chains = standard width used for local rural farming roads.
Three Chains = standard width of roads between smaller towns.
Five Chains = standard width for Major Roads & Highways.
Ten Chains = standard width for roads used as Stock Routes.
This road being the most direct road between Wangaratta and Corowa, it is likely that it would be 3 Chains wide.
If I had a 100 link chain on me today I would have measured to make sure, but just looking at it I reckon you could probably lay out 3 Chains between the fences on each side of this road.
Thanks for the cache tattboy1.

60.3504 metres of course
Which is a lot shorter than this road is long.
Maybe it is the width of the road alignment ?
Who knows !!
Consult the original survey plans for the district

ummm.... yeah, it's pretty average as roads go. Thanks for the cache to break up the journey.
3 chain is just a bit more than 2 chain, but not quite as much as 4 chain - any other questions?

Finally having the opportunity to grab a long weekend away we decided to try and clean up a few caches in Albury and surrounding areas hoping to allow for more socializing at the upcoming mega event. Today we made sure we took the time to do the caches that we haven't had time to stop for or that have just been just a little too far off our beaten track. 3 chain road maybe a little boring to drive along but trying to find this cache certainly wasn't. We jumped out of the car and followed the needle to gz expecting a nice quick find but we came up empty handed. We expanded our search quite a few metres in each direction but with limited places to hide a cache we were starting to think that this maybe a DNF. One more look along the fence line before leaving then we spotted something in the farmer's paddock about three meters inside the fence line. Mark jumped the fence and sure enough a 400ml sistema complete with log book
We added our name to the log and re hid the cache in a more logical location, we're not sure how it got out there but at least it's on the right side of the fence now
Thanks tattboy1 for the cache
