TFTC worth the walk to the river. Out for the day with Crack n Lee Lee. The river was flowing & a definite favorite
20 September 2024 14:59This was another awesome walk to get these. Unfortunately we were heading to La Cebola, Whiskey Creek Circuit, crossed the river and started to make our way to it, but we headed around the wrong way thinking it was the shorter option, but it was too steep for that time of the day, and after already doing so much already. We made the hard decision to leave that one out there on it's lonesome. Very sad decision to have to make.I still can't believe what we achieved this weekend. We enjoyed perfect weather for hiking big km's. I did not have the privilege of the enjoyment of hiking these beautiful areas of our country when I was a younger person than today; but nothing is going to stop me from starting now, and hopefully continue to enjoy area's like this for many years to come. We went on to undertake 6 >10km caches for the 2 days of hiking. Many of the caches completed were on goat tracks, and we saw goats out there. They made me jealous seeing how agile they are scaling the steepest terrain so easily; very much like dalerious who also made it look easy, where I descended the very steep sections backwards. But I got there, and we repeated the extreme hikes over and again for 2 days.Thank you mudbrick for your clever wit, and Ausyowie for the adventure.
20 September 2024 3:03pm I liked the down hill bit, but catnap777 much prefers the trip climbing back up. I have no idea how we get along so well. This was about as deep into the forest as we found ourselves this day. We were keen to get "La cebolla" on the Whiskey Creek circuit as well, but by failing to recognise the trail head for the continuation of Spanish Onion Track on the other side of the river, bush bashing to it up the hill at this time of day just seemed like real "whisky business". We gave it a miss and just enjoyed being down here at the river for a few moments before heading back up and out of the forest. TFTC 3up. Found and returned in good condition. [^]
Ticking off the last few in this area one at a time now to get more walks in rather than grab them all at once.As today's target, this did not disappoint! The way down wasn't too bad and more importantly, the way up was not as savage as I'd thought it would be.Very picturesque part of the river at GZ, running strong with plenty of water, birds, frogs and the wild flowers are all coming out along the track in.Dropping a fave here for sure. The container was wet inside, but the bag had kept the logbook safe, all dried out now, hopefully it stays that way. Thanks 3up for brining me to this very special spot.
Found a cache in a different position (LER520 info post). Unsure if this one has moved or if unrelated.
See GC5FB8X for full log
Survived the rock hop across river hope my Geo senses are still somehow working after 8 hours of walking. I'm running out of stamina- still finding it hard to follow any trail - trying not to look down across the narrow steep sections- my fear of alot of things has had a big work out today.

It was good to sit on the fallen trunk after that scramble up and down the rocky ridge. Great company with Chook, Jarwillo, Perpetually Lost and OzHockeyChick. Thanks for the cache.
After nearly ending up in the river I had a bit of a rest on the log before continuing up back to the car. TFTC

*Cache find # 12684.*
Now that the event was over, it was time to head back to our cars so I headed off with McLookers down East Walk, Razorback North and Razorback tracks to where the cars were parked making a nice loop around for the day.
After making our way across the river it was then time to look for this one, it didn't take long and we were back on the track if that's what you can call it as this section was more climbing than walking.
**Thanks to 3up for placing this cache.**

Fuelled on by the attraction of an event in the middle of the Lerdie, Chook joined a wonderful group of friends (OzHockeyChick, Explorer Nan, Perpetually Lost and Jarwillo) to hike in via Razorback and Spanish Onion tracks, then out again via East Walk.
After navigating down the rocky ridge, this cache was a nice reward before crossing the river and up the next escarpment. All good at GZ. TFTC 3up.

A beautiful day's hiking through the Lerderderg National Park with Perpetuallylost, chooknchunk, OzHockeyChick, Explorer Nan and Crack’n’LeeLee. We were out here to attend the event hosted by the hamfish and took the chance to explore some of the trails and the various caches hidden along the way. Some a quick find just off the trail and others requiring quite a bit of scrambling up and down slopes. A long but enjoyable day.
Beautiful place for a cache and a nice place to have a rest after making your way down from either direction. Thanks for the cache.

A gorgeous day for a stroll through the lovely Lerderderg Nat Park, exploring Razorback and East Walk tracks. Teamed up with Perpetuallylost, chooknchunk, Jarwillo & Explorer Nan.
The hairiest part of my journey was en route to this one. Heading out to the edge of the ridge activated my acrophobia, and while I focussed on my breathing, the always patient Chook was there to guide and encourage me to make it all the way. Let's face it.. I wasn't about to turn around now.
At gz, we all sat and took a break as I regained my composure.
Thanks for bringing us here today by placing this cache, 3up

we are loving this area
we cut our teeth on the hills of gippsland: a land of gentle gradients and slight slopes
sure, there are steep bits here and there
but most of the rough spots have been sandpapered over by millions of years of wind
here the landscape feels more rugged
cliffs drop beneath your toenails like waterfalls
the river has sliced through the gorge like a steam train, the jagged rock edges left in its wake
it all makes for a real spectacle
and while one side of our brains are doing their best not to hurtle off the cliffs
the other sides are taking some time to enjoy them

Well, I'd never heard about this until I discovered this buried treasure while bush walking today. So signed up to record the event.
I signed the book and replaced it,

It was a wet river crossing today, We found a great log to put our boots back on. Very comfortable place to sit post the descent down to the river. No pen and I left mine at another cache today whoops

With one day left of home time before returning to work tomorrow thanks to the Covid-19 lockdown, and with a forecast of calm mild weather and no rain, it was my chance to head out to the the Lerderderg to find a few caches, in particular two with quite a bit of unloved time.
Easy find once i looked on the right side of the tree, considering how good the camo cover was. Awesome part of the world down here. Could hear the water from way up the hill so I was surprised how little there was actually flowing. Made my crossing to the other side very easy. Thx 3up, great place for a cache CIGC TNLNSL TFTC

My muggle daughter and myself are out this weekend for a overnight hike. Somehow I have talked her into stopping for a few along the way. I love how geocaching and hiking go hand in hand. I just love it. We have had a lovely weekend but didn’t bring enough water, by the end of the two day hike we were dreaming about water. Thank you for bringing me to this lovely location. I have missed a few along the way, it just means I will have to come baok this way. Thanks heaps
Why not join some mates for a hike after work on a pleasant Sunday afternoon they said? Well why not , who could knock back a hike in Lerdi and take in the breathtaking views with the added bonus of a cache or three. A quick find this evening as we enjoyed the company of McLookers, Na'wal and DAB.
Thanks 3up for placing this cache in such a great location.

Our cache team decided on a few caches in Lerdie to finish off the weekend. We parked the geo wheels at the gate and walked in with our supplies. With plenty of sweat dripping from all parts of us, we had finally made it down to the river. And a nice spot it is. A little bit of water is in the river at the moment, thankfully not many bugs. We explored a little after making a quick find. Stamped and returned as found.

A pretty spot and thankfully a quick find with 4 sets of eyes looking tonight.
Thanks 3up.
Thanks 3up.
Nice long walk. Good hills for the legs. Took a bit of hunting around but found OK.
Thanks 3up, it took me a while to get here, doing the whole Whiskey Creek Circuit, but it was worth it.
No water running in the river today.

Very pleased to grab this cache at the end of the whisky creek. a very picturesque spot. was hoping to cross the river and grab mudbricks cache about 300m away but the tide was high and the sun was getting low so it was time to call it a day and head back up. The sign says 2hrs to Mt Blackmore Rd, it took me 1hr 15min. thanks 3up. giving it a favorite. TFTC.
Find 4 of 17 for the day and what a day it turned out to be. The whisky creek circuit is a challenging walk especially for the unfit like Neville_devil and myself Sims_family dad. The rest of the Sims_family had been left at home for the day because of the D/T rating of the caches on the track.
The aim for the day was grabbing some unloved cache months unfortunately someone had made it to this guy and no months were able to be claimed for him.
The climb down was certainly steep though both Nevil and I were feeling a bit of the leg wobbles as we were making the careful decent.
It took as a little while to locate this one but that was the least of our troubles for the day. They we all about to start.
Thanks 3up for the cache and sorry about the late log it has taken me way to long to get back to logging the days caching

Today Dad and I parked at obriens crossing walked down the river and planned on taking cowans track back to obriens. At the turn off for cowans track we couldnt pass up getting this cache as it was less than 1km away. so we made the turn and snatched it up before the grueling mission up the steep incline of cowans track.
We saw 4 goats which was pretty cool.
left obiens crossing at 1.20pm got back at 6.45pm
Thanks for this one

Today I feel I earned every cache I found.
20 in total walking the Whiskey Creek Circuit.
Temp mild but some of the climbs where testing.
Although I had a great half day.
12.8km in total, started at 8:34am finished at 13:30.
MMMM this was fun.
I cut across the path from the previous find and proceeded to walk on further thinking it was going to cut down to the creek below.
No it looked like it was going on along a cliff so I doubled back and found what looked like an opening.
Straight down I scrambled, fun times.
Luckily no cliff edges and I was soon at the bottom walking the river bed.
A quick search and a sign of the log.
I'll give a fav for the isolation and fun to get here.

The track leading to this cache is very sketchy in places. Really had to concentrate the closer you got to the cache. Having said that though, the scenery was fantastic. Once I made the find, it was time for a sit down and something to eat. The river was as dry as today, would like to see it in winter. Now for the trek back to the car... [xx(][xx(] I think this is the first hide I have ever found from you 3up !! TFTC
A day in Lerderderg State Park, full of kangaroos, rosellas, a fox and where I nearly stabbed a black snake with my trekking pole at the same instant that we became mutually aware of each other! Luckily it sidewinded back into the bush. Humourous caches and a fair bit of exercise.
This was the perfect spot for my lunch. The cache was proving difficult to unearth until I realised I was looking for a bigger container. Got there in the end. At one point I was thinking I've come all this way only to ...
Just time for one more...
Thanks and cheers!

A big day of hiking with BuckleysBabe and Jacko83 saw us heading out to the stream at mid-day.
Whisky Business or Risky Business, we made our way and signed the log in an awesome GZ location.
Thanks, 3up.

Find number 5 out and about With ThePacman, Jacko83 and the Geopup Bentley on a perfect day for a walk in the bush. Our goal for the day was to conquer the Whiskey Creek series. After a gentle stroll into the bush, things started to get a little trickier as we headed down to this guy, but we made it down without trouble and after a little searching and a look at the hint, the cache was in hand.
Thanks 3up for the cache and for showing me a new part of the world !

A massive day today doing the Whisky Creek circuit with Buckleysbabe, Pacman, and the pooch Bentley who pretty much ran the whole circuit.
Perfect weather for it today, I think I even got a little burnt. Blue skies, very creative hide and a beautiful place to be taken, this is what caching is all about. Not to mention good company, half the fun is the people you are with. Had no idea the walk would be so massive, with climbs, river crossings, and tough climbs to say the least! no falls, no injuries, brilliant day, thanks for bringing me here.

Coming down the ridge over the precipitous rock falls it was a relief to reach the river and find there was no problem crossing. However a higher priority was the nearby cache and it was LZZ(f) that spotted it at 12:40. It was noted that the previous log was 11 Oct 2013. TFTC
Nearing a spot for a well-earned snack, we had to at least knock this one off the list first. With pointers pointing every which way, LZZ(f) spotted the hide after not too much searching at 12:40.
TNLNSL, although our Happy New Year to the cache geocoin had a visit to mark the occasion. Thanks 3up.

I followed the track on down from above, doing the circuit clockwise. picked my descent at the finish with trepidation as it becomes quite steep, and legs are incredibly weary by now. thankfully cach was an easy find with the hint to guide.
Thanks 3up for another smiley.

GPS does not work great around here. But by now you probably already know that.
The walk from the onion treasure to here was spectacular with high cliffs, steep descents, narrow edges, good conversation and now a river crossing in the iciest water in Victoria
The clue makes the puzzle just want to be found and B2 had no problems. B1 was now a little tired.
Thanks 3up for your use of the landscape here is spectacular.

We've been meaning to knock this circuit over and grab the caches on it for a while. it's a great walk and cache mission. Cheers Mudbrick!
Out and about with the Essendon Bushwalking clubs Wednesday walkers.
With Mudbrick present to witness the event, the cache was found.
Nice day for a walk.

I found this cache while having a beautiful sunny spring day I couldn't ask for more - even the following river crossing in almost waist-deep water wasn't a problem since it was quite warm (yes I took off my boots and pants). Definitely a favourite

Was out today doing the Whisky Creek Circuit with 6Hinemoa2 and Bogonghazy, both of whom had previously visited this cache. Nice quick find before tackling the Lerderderg River crossing en route to our next target. Thanks, 3up. It would have been nice to have had more time at this rather pleasant location. A picnic would have been enjoyable, especially in better weather but, unfortunately, we were on a mission with a time limit. Maybe another day!
Came from the east walk, found the last part of the descent into the river a little steep and slippery but eventually negotiated it. The river was step across today. Found the hide (eventually...) before climbing out toward Square Bottle. Thanks.
After tackling 'Pyke It' Mudbrick suggested that I might like todo Whisky Business. Why not? I thought.
Fortunately I had a spare pair of old riding shoes and socks in the car and a bottle of water. ALan lent me his hat and off we set with Alan heading home to go to work.
Our walk down was great and I loved the smaller Razorback track despite the blisters that were now forming on my heels. Mudbrick offered me some tape so I continued on.
Found the cache and logged in. Now for the walk back up the hills. Aware that I had to be back in Bacchus Marsh by 5:30, I had walked quickly downhill. This now changed as the uphill was relentless. Needless to say I was happy to see the car and drove in my driveway at 5:00. Quick feed and shower and I was ready for travelling to Ballarat.
Thanks for a great walk today 3up.

Decided today was too good a day to miss out on a walk in the Lerdie.
So, grabbed the dog and made the short drive to the start of the track.
Found 'A stitch in time' first before backtracking to start the walk in to this one. Great little well-defined track to a part of the river I've never visited before. These are the caches I really enjoy, a reward after a nice hike in the bush. Thanks Terry

Found it at 9.30 this morning, Tuesday 13 SEP.
A real nice walk.. this is what caching is all about - just a crappy 200ml Sistema.. but I'm totally ok with that!(I do this mostly for my own!) - thanks for bringing me here.. I reckon without the hint I wouldn't have found it for the Camo.. but, I did, so all good.
I'd been looking for a reason to get over this side of the Lerderderg for a while and this was it, so all goodness.
Found an apple core on the track on the way in, evidence..
reckon it took me about 2.5 hours round trip, decent pace, but not cracking, just enjoying myself, stopped for about 15 mins at GZ.
TFTC!

Greetings 3UP,
I had been in the gorge most of the day, came home & had a nice wine, then logged on to find this beckoning. I had to scrounge a bit,but got him.Thank you for the hide and a very fast walk there and back. This was my first first to find,so
am very ecstatic......In my excitement at the cache I may have put in the wrong date. I,m just happy I did not fall into the creek. Now I will finish that wine
