Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I live full-time in our caravan travelling around NZ, visiting the places we want to visit & doing the things we want to do and fitting in a bit of Geocaching here & there we are staying at Twizel & enjoying the nice weather & the fantastic scenery we decided we would go for a bit of a drive to investigate some potential DoC Camping sites & Freedom Camping areas this is one of those places that we would never have stopped to visit, so without having Geocaching as an excuse, we probably would have just driven right passed this was, more-or-less, a quick and easy find, albeit once we got to GZ, logbook signed & cache was returned as found were also pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally TFTC ... TN:LN:LS this was #6,543 for us!
We started our beautiful journey through the South Island in Christchurch. Here we went on a big sightseeing tour and visited lots of caches. We then travelled via Lake Tapeko, Dansey Pass and Moeraki to Dunedin for the MEGA event. In Dunedin we visited the MEGA events and together with many other cachers we found many caches around Dunedin. A few days later, we travelled on through the Catlins to the southernmost part of Bluff. We then visited Te Anau and the tourist town of Queenstown. In Wanaka we went on another sightseeing tour until we reached the west coast via the Haast Pass. We hiked to Fox Glacier and Franz Josef Glacier. We continued along the west coast up to Westport, stopping at various sights along the way. Richmond and Nelson, the sunniest cities, were also on our list.A few days later we reached the east coast again in the wine region of Picton and Blenheim. After a few days, we travelled back to Christchurch via Kaikoura. We visited many geological sites, completed many adventure cahes and found many caches along the way.We travelled almost 3500 km and had so many great experiences. Many thanks to all the ownersTeam sissifalke
A plan was hatched quite a while ago when the Dunedin Mega was announced to come over to the South Island again.I have only been to New Zealand twice before and I loved the South Island. So a chance to come back for a Mega was a no brainer for me.Everything was booked and I flew in on Saturday after a bit of a delay. After a great few days in and around Christchurch its time to head to Twizel for the night with a detour via Mount Cook.So Day 4 of my Mega NZ trip begins and Im on my own again so lets go find a few more caches along the way. After a couple of nice hours wandering around Lake Tekapo I have made it to Aoraki - Mount Cook. The drive in the peaks looked great covered in snow. Was about to turn right to Twizel as I past the police doing random breath tests so I skipped that one and decided to do these couple first.Found somewhere to park the Geoloancar and set off on foot.Made my way along the trail and the water seemed reasonably low to me.Cache was soon located and signed. Thanks Bitsprayer TFTC.
Love how geocaching brings us to such wonderful places. After a couple of days at Mount Cook, dodging the hoards of muggle tourists, the peace & tranquility here was most welcome. Thanks for placing this cache & bringing us here.
Found with Jibi, Paula, and Rupert. Lots of little Pīwakawaka friends watched on
For some reason this cache has always been left unfound, every time i came past. So, I decided to target it specifically today! Lovely day to head out to the bay. Unfortunately, someone had the same idea and arrived there before me, but they were busy chatting and skipping stones, so I could find the cache undisturbed. TFTC!!
TEMBO! and I made the way to the "Marker Bay". It was a good idea. The place is a silent and secret tip to visitors.
Thanks to Bitsprayer for hiding and maintaining the cache.

Gorgeous spot! TFTC! Wouldn’t have found this spot without it. Enjoyed lunch on an earlier bench.
Parked up at the main road - wasn't sure our little camper would make it down and back up. Lovely walk although still pretty cold after the snow. tftc
I've driven past here often and always thought that we need to stop for this one and today was the day to do it. The weather is perfect with blue sky and Aoraki standing proud. After finding the cache we had lunch at the seat and afterwards pulled all the wilding pines in front of the seat so they don't interrupt the view in future.
We finally managed to get away for a week’s holiday after months of lock downs and cancellations to various trips and flights. After landing in Christchurch we headed to Mount Cook to spend a few days exploring the area, doing a few walks and enjoying the dark sky star gazing, as well as exploring lakes and small towns of the Mackenzie country. We also found lots of geocaches which we enjoyed finding. Thank you to all the CO’s for taking the time to place and maintain these caches.
On the only wet day during our stay, we headed out to Lake Tekapo via a few caches to find the hot pools for the afternoon. MrNZT was in jandels and GZ was a bit slippery so MrsNZT completed the find. Nice little bay and we were the only ones here in the weather. TFTC!

Day two of our geotrip to Mount Cook. We spent the night at Tekapo and today are heading to Mount Cook village to spend two nights there, to explore all the trails and everything else the area has to over. I have never been to Mt Cook before, have never seen Aorangi.
Except that all the big walks were closed. High winds. Also rain, but that would not have stopped us (much). So instead of spending two nights up there we cached the place out in under half a day and then came back to Pukaki the same day. Zara was almost blown off the road getting up there! I got to see Mt Cook village, but still have yet to see Aorangi.
Taybeedragon and I are on a geotrip to Mt Cook. Just a week, but with two days to get there from Picton and two days to get back it only meant 3 days on GZ. However we had really high winds (almost got blown off the road) and rain at Mt Cook so we didn't stay long and instead explored some of the other areas around. 99 caches all up, a slightly annoying number fixed with one additional find in Blenheim just before I hopped on the ferry to make for a nice round 100 finds for the trip .

I enjoyed my walk over to Marker Bay to get this one snagged and tagged. Cheers. Now off back to Zara for some well earned ZZZZs
Day 2 - Tuesday 21 December - Tekapo to Mt Cook and back down the end of Lake Pukaki. Gusty winds were catching Zara side on and pushing us around, on our way up LaKe Pukaki which make for interesting driving. Mt Cook and Mt Cook Village were shrouded in white and remained misty, wet and windy while we were there. Hooker Valley was closed so pulled back towards tekapo for the night.
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are of on another Geo adventure this time to Mt Cook for 5 days. Met up with Bullertrout and Bro on the way down. Lake Pukaki was fine but Mt Cook was wet and wild with the Hooker Valley being closed due to high winds, so did not stay long. We went exploring Tekapo, Timaru and a round trip to Lake Coleridge. Short trip and very tiring but awesome.

GPS was bouncing around so took a bit longer to find. Two fantails fluttered around us as we searched which was cool. TFTC
A lovely walk to this cache today. Three markers out the water today. This lake is really low. Bring on the rain! Thanks for bringing us here Bitsprayer.
Nice little walk with a surprising number of signs - we counted 5 in a short distance- warning us to stay off the private property, also multiple warnings about dangerous cliffs. Overkill we thought, but being good kiwis we stayed on the path with our eyes on the prize. Thanks for bringing us here on this beautiful day.

This is a great cache to go to as is a lovely walk with stunning views. Amazing how we have been in this area many times and didn't know we could walk to this bay. Love how our new hobbie is taking us to see new things. Thanks for the cache Bitsprayer
We are on vacation in New Zealand and of course we seek some caches.
Thanks for this one! Took some time to find it.

We are on our summer holiday driving around the South Island with no real idea of where we will end up each day. We are often drawn to an area that has the potential to give us a few geocaching smilies and somewhere we have not spent time exploring before. In some cases we are revisiting placed that we have been before but liked so much we are going there again.
Plenty of good parking here so no worries about pulling off amongst the hoards of traffic. Although the road down the hill was a little bumpy.
The walk along the track was beautiful with the lupins and the colour of the lake in the back ground.
Once we got to the bay GK searched a bit higher than I did and he soon found the cache. It was so beautiful we stayed and had a swim before heading back to the campervan for lunch.
Thanks for placing this cache and of course thank you for the smiley

We drove the 4WD along the track to within 150m and then made the quick walk to the cache site. Beautiful views from this spot today. TFTC [^]
Heading to Alexandra for the Easter weekend - a long drive & lots of traffic...so not much time to stop for caches. Time for some lunch and the main spots along the lake were packed with people...then I noticed this wee area, dropped in and then saw the walk to Marker Bay. Nice. Grabbed our lunch and walked in. Had the place to ourselves. Bliss. What a lovely spot & with all the people & traffic - we had it to ourselves. Nice. Cheers.
Wetter war sehr schlecht angesagt aber es schien noch die Sonne, darum entschied ich mich für diesen kurzen Spaziergang. Es liegt sehr viel Holz rum, aber der Cache ist unversehrt
Gorgeous and colourful walk through the lupins and rosehips with the amazing blue of the lake. Absolutely stunning! Party central near GZ and I thought that the cache had gone AWOL. Then I turned around and saw a very likely looking spot and was signing the log. A thoroughly enjoyable walk in and out thanks Bitsprayer. TFTC # 11,574
The (major road trip was about to begin) that was for the Oamaru Geofest trip in the company of HKCB and iammrwalker for a bit of a road trip across to the west coast, through Haast and in a roundabout way to Oamaru.
My trip stats were as follows: 617 caches (214 Puzzles), 3300kms, 500 litres of Petrol, 21 hours sleep, 100+hours caching time. THe weather was wonderful and apart from about a 6hour period on the sunday we had fine weather all the way and feel that we made a bit of a hole in the region.
Firstly thanks to all the CO's that put in the effort to to set up these caches and to all the CO's whose caches we did not find this trip, well we are already planning our next trip.
We worked hard at getting specific caches (especially the Geo Art around christchurch and hence our concentration on this area for the preliminary 24 hours. So after a couple of running repairs to the rental vehicle (fuses not working) we were off knowing that all ports could be charged and that sleep was for the weak.
Sorry about the copy and paste logs but that is what tends to happen with a number run of this size.
Continued on the way to Mt Cook but collecting a few caches along the way to Tekapo. Nice drive in here

Came down this way from the North for the Oamaru Geofest, and decided to add a few more days to the weekend trip and turn it into a bit of a Mega mission, starting 5pm on Wednesday 18th and finishing 3pm Monday 23rd! Teaming up with Cats&Dragons for the first 24 hours then with Iammrwalker joining the team for the remainder.
Just a few of the stats for the trip were:
- 700 caches found, including 270+ puzzles (thanks to the Christchurch Geoart)
- 3300 km's driven, using over 500L of fuel $$$
- Just over 20 hours of sleep (about 4 per day on average), and about 100 hours of caching time.
Certainly a Mega Trip!
Day 3: With time now a bit against us for what we originally had planned for the West Coast a decision was made to catch up a bit of time and bee line it down the coast from Greymouth to Jackson's Bay. This meant a 6 1/2 drive through the night as we rotated drivers every hour or so while the other two got some sleep. This plan worked great as it set us up for another great day of caching. Today's mission involved caching from Jackson's Bay through to Cromwell and then up to Aoraki (Mt Cook). Today also made us appreciate the stunning beauty of the South Island.
Took the car as far as we dared, and walked the rest of the way. No issues with the hide, a cool spot for a placement.
Sorry about the cut and past logs, but that seems to happen with cache runs of this size!

I found this Geocache on a Geocaching mega mission along with Cats&Dragons and HKCB. With only just over three and half thousand Geocache finds I was very much the over achiever in training. We were in the South Island to support the Oamaru Geofest event, hunt down some Jasmar and D/T harder to find Geocaches, lonely caches (those not found in more than 6 months), virtuals and try and meet some milestone numbers. We signed the logs HIC, an abbreviation of our respective Geocaching names, (H)KCB, (I)ammrwalker and (C)ats&dragons. A huge thanks to all the CO’s who placed and maintain the Geocaches we found.
I arrived in Christchurch late Thursday evening having left straight from work and was picked up by my intrepid companions in our four wheel drive rental to find they had already grabbed about 270 finds in the previous twenty four hours. I wonder if the rental company would have still let us have it had they known we would travel 3300km in it before returning it four days later? Our trip took us to Greymouth via Arthurs pass, Ngahere, down the west coast to Haast across to Hawea, Cromwell, Twizel, Aoraki Mt Cook, Tekapo, onto the east coast up to Oamaru and back up to Christchurch via Akaroa and countless diversions and small towns along the way. We slept in the car for the first two nights, grabbing some shut eye between cache finds, taking turns to drive. We rented a small place in Oamaru for the other two nights and appreciated a bed to sleep in and a hot shower. It was an amazing trip, in which I discovered the South Island has some of the most incredible scenery in the world.

We had time to find the way in and walk the short distance to the cache. However, there were 2 fishermen at the Bay and no way to look undetected.
Great short walk to stretch the legs! Looks like it's been a while since anyone has got this cache! Still in good nick and nice easy find! Water is up to number 5 on the markers today.
I've driven passed this a few times now. No particular hurry so off for a wee walk. NIce walk, all the puddles and mud frozen so shoes stayed clean! A quick find thanks. Cheers.
Time to go home, even though the mountains are looking lovely today, under blue skies.
Thanks to the CO's for the hides. Cheers.

Took walk to this isolated spot. As I was on my own later afternoon, strangley felt uncomfortable going through that pine stretch after seeing abandoned campground and smashed car glass over the ground. At GZ the recently felled trees and cut off limbs buried the cache. Uncovered it and made footspots so as to not reroll ankle on the braches. Cache was in good condition.
Pretty bay even on an overcast day. Surprised to stumble upon 3 campers in amongst the trees. A few fallen trees on the track made a tricky walk in at the end. Thanks very much for placing the cache here. A nice spot to visit.
Travelled past innumerable times. Today was the day. Sunny warm day. Lake calm and those turquiose colours amazing. Magic!! Tftc
I was picking up a few caches between Pukaki and Twizel today and this was one of many. A few trees have come down at the turnoff immediately at the turnoff to the Bay.
Cheers for the cache.
Cheers for the cache.
This cache was one of approx. 350 found on a 5 day road trip with Moneydork who was on a brief visit to New Zealand.
We enjoyed a variety of caches in an area that stretched between Christchurch Dunedin and Pukaki.
Bitsprayer was with us today.
Thanks to the many people who have hidden and maintained the caches.

This cache was one of 350 found on a short trip back to New Zealand, which was principally organised so that I could attend my Great Grandmother's 100th birthday.
I have a great time and enjoyed a great variety of caches, most of which were new (ie published in the past couple of years ).
Thanks for all the great caches.

Lots of rocks and trees should have brought my chainsaw with all the drift wood on the shoreline now time to catch the big one
Not such a pleasant day today but this area was nicely sheltered from the wind. Quick find. TFTC
We found this cache during our wonderful journey through New Zealand. Thank you for the cache and the great time in your country! Greetings from Germany.
Gorgeous walk down the side of the lake on a hot spring day. Looked hard but no joy.
