Great nighttime cache with great torches…. No water required but just a bit of a walk….. OK I’m giving a fav point cause I enjoyed the experience in the dark.
The cursed pistol is one that has interested me for a while but seems I just could not find time for, well that is going to change today. With the bike loaded I drove to the posted coordinates. I found the cache easily and then realised I had another spot to travel to. Then things fell into place and my memory started to kick in. My plan was to see where this one would take me but also grab Rocky surrounds and that is why I brought the bike.
Off I went, Waypoint after waypoint until I reached the final destination and OH MY, what an awesome cache. A nice size large cache, with nicely set out containers and then the surprise packet at the bottom. OH MY GOODNESS, I love it well done, a favourite point for this one for sure. I wish the girls were with me now. I signed the log and then continued onto my other cache I came for today. Thanks for keeping this one maintained.
I hadn't planned on completing this multi-cache, nor whether to even consider this one today, however since this multi-cache's WP1 was nearby, I decided to visit it. Sometimes you just never know in which direction a multi-cache will take you. Fortunately, it appeared to be heading in the same direction that I was, so that turned out to be great! The small clue at Waypoint 1 didn't take long to find, and I should give thanks to stairman1 who replaced that clue a few months ago.
Waypoint 2's clue was the one that took me the most time - the hinted suspicious pile didn't seem to stand out at all, as there were just so many around! The coordinates kept taking me to a small depression, and so that appeared to be the logical spot for a clue, but alas I had to keep searching around. I was about to give up when after expanding my search radius, I spotted the camouflaged POS.
Waypoint 3 and Waypoint 4 were very well done, and thankfully, I was diligent in my searching that they both didn't take long to find at all. I soon arrived at GZ, where that cursed pistol and treasure chest of goodies were found! The cache container and logbook were in good shape. A fantastic and well organised multi-cache! Thanks Brother Colin for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance (and stairman1's recent maintenance).
I wont spoil things for future hunters. Except my muggle friend and I were very impressed with the following way points and their locations.
Another very well set out multi and a pleasure to walk it.
Thanks Brother Colin for your great cache. Have another fav point.
Arriving at WP1, I wandered around in circles for a bit and eventually looked a little further over there and found what I needed. WP2, same circles, and found something hidden in a similar manner. WP3, I knew from previous logs this was something special and took some time looking everywhere, sitting down and reading previous logs again. I kept looking at something, checking it but not finding what I needed. Ok, this something popped into my gaze again, time for another look ... aha!!! How very clever Brother Colin. As others have said, this is well worth the persistence, we are very well-rewarded with this one. Moving along to WP4 I found what I needed quite quickly.
Making my way to the final, I spotted the great-sized cache as I approached GZ. With a super dry log in hand, I signed it and replaced all as found. I also dropped off a special bit of treasure to add to the collection.
Thanks so much Brother Colin for a fantastic multi, a great roam around the bush. A fav from me.
Planned to come back today to finish it and got the shock of my life- the anti caching muggle, decided he wanted to come too! We enjoyed the drive out here and pulled up outside and set off along the track enjoying being outdoors on a nice day. I pointed out WPs 1 & 2 as we went past and on we went to WP 3.
The train nearly derailed here as we couldn't find it even after extending our search area. I sent off two PAFs and we kept looking. Both got back to me and confirmed what I had thought we were looking for, we just hadn't looked properly enough! Great! Got the numbers in and trotted off to WP4. Hmm, neither of us were confident of taking the direct route so the muggle went one way and I went the other and we both got there at the same time. I approached this one very cautiously as a slip could end up being more than painful and I was even more careful obtaining the coordinates as the potential for disaster here was very high in how it was placed. Another set of numbers were plugged in and soon we were zeroing in on GZ. Bingo! I signed both of us in the log as I'm starting an account for the muggle as he's been to quite a few caches with me and even picked the name Zip Zap a while ago.
Had a poke through the treasure chest and found the path tag to add to my collection. Left assorted goodies and a treasure hunt book for the junior pirates to study. Fired off the cursed pistol in all directions but didn't hit anything, even the muggle so we put it all back and wandered back to the car. Leaving a favourite point here for the work that went into those waypoints and for the enjoyable excursion.
TFTC Brother Colin (and your help at WP3!)
Read some previous logs and was intrigued by Lozbuckets reference to Fangsoki's misfortune at WP4 so scrolled back through the logs....
OMG!!!
Yes I laughed till I cried, but also with relief as I had feared the very same thing happening to us at this waypoint!! Champion points to Fangsoki and his friends for retrieving the cursed thing as it would have been a massive task in that terrain!!
Then we look at the villagers' issues, impersonating a doctor, operating a diamond mine without a permit, no WHS or personal protective equipment and no union reps. And where were the security personnel or maybe they were sleeping on the job or the witch doctor took up some moonlighting after hours.
This was the targeted cache of the day to assist Gcoven with a multi challenge. I tagged along for the ride, then a good length walk. Had no issue until hitting WP4. Went immediately to the logical spot then finding nothing, moved to other hopeless spots. After 10mins and reading a few old logs, went back to find the original spot and uncovered the coords. A clever idea!!
Left my tribute, a silver piece of 8 with the other treasure hoard and a FP just to make sure no DNF curse befalls my pathetic life... Enjoyed this morning's walk and an interesting cache Brother Colin.
Paid our price at GZ and signed the log.
Thanks for the fun adventure!

Favourite point for this one. TFTC Brother Colin.
Had an even bigger laugh when we got to the 4th and realised exactly what had happened to Fangsoki all those years ago. Absolutely hilarious! What a champion for chasing it and fixing it up. Happily, nothing similar happened to us.
The final was so well organised and presented, and this is altogether a very well set up and thought out cache! Loved it, Brother Colin! Great memories made today
TB swap and fav point added.
Thanks for this one Brother Colin, FP for WP3 and this very fun multi.
Not wanting to give away too much, JeznDez and I had a cracking good tome working our way around the waypoints, until we got to a wonderfully large cache. All in good order here.
Let me say for those who struggle at WP3 - persist - it is worth the aha moment. It is one of those type of cleverness that rather than 'Phone a Friend', I would leave it and come back another day. It's just that clever.
A Favourite Pt from me. Well played to the CO!
I'm glad I brought the Merida for a ride, the nice wide and mostly well kept tracks allowed me to blaze down the hills quickly and gave my legs a good workout on the hills.
The WPs were found with the same amount of ease and/or frustration as others have reported, in the end there was something so blaringly obvious about WP3 that I gave myself an uppercut for having not noticed [^].
I located the bounty and deposited my token of $100 issued by the Kids Bank to avoid contracting the dreaded DNF curse. The 2 listed TBs are nowhere to be seen. All is well here. An FP is coming your way for the effort you've invested.
Thanks for the hunt **Brother Colin**, this find makes #4577. Discover our TB

We packed our bikes, one stolen from muggle mum as Mrs 4ando’s bike had a slight mishap on the previous ride. To be fare we tried to fix it before we five finger discounted the current one, but when we took it to the bike shop the bikeman was horrified where this bike had been, it had a couple of other little faults: no bell (that fell off somewhere oneday, a flick of the finger on it and it stilled worked), reflectors had fallen off (some tracks have been bouncy), stand is nearly falling off, back brakes not working at all, front brakes loose and no suspension at all left (don’t know how that happened
Should be a lot easier to read.
A lot of fun was had finding all the WPs and then thankfully/happily the final GZ. We certainly left some treasure. I don't need a curse, I get enough DNFs
Thanks for the fun multi and smiley Brother Colin
We met 1MM at the parking spot and then headed off to WP1, a nice quick find in a quirky container.
Then off to the next WP, another quick find once we were at the right elevation.
Heading off to the next WP, I think there's a pattern here, lots of zigging and zagging in this place!
There were lots of loud cockatoos around today, and a couple of muggles but no other wildlife.
At WP 3 we knew it might be a bit tricky, so we were all looking at things, under things and of course it was in the spot we'd checked first but very tricky!
Off to the next Wp, and I may have been cursing the CO a little.. all this up!
Off to the final and wow, what an awesome cache, lots of treasure, I added some treasure to fend off the curse and swapped some swag and added a TB.
After replacing the treasure we decided to carry on up the hill and find some more caches...
Well today was my planned day off, and speaking of plans, some were hatched last night between NyssaFlutterby, Wombles&Co and I to head out for some caches... and then we changed our plans and decided to come here instead for these caches, in particular this one.
Having ditched the geokids at school, I charged off to make another find first, before parking at the provided coords to await my caching partners in crime. I covered myself with substantial Bushmans to help combat any further tick encounters this season - yes they are still rife out there - and a quick slathering of sunscreen before relaxing in the car.
And soon enough Nyssa, Wombles and Jelly the Wonderdog arrived and we began our assault.
First waypoint tackled quickly, then Wombles&Co came to the rescue on the second. Come the third and we turned every one in the zone.... and then I went back and turned one again and asked Wombles to look at it with me. Yes of course that was it. Info taken we were off again, but made a quick find at WP4 - tho one of the numbers was a little unclear and we hoped we read it correctly.
And then it was on to the final, where we were glad the terrain was a little kinder as we pulled out the treasure. And WHAT a treasure it was! We marked our names in the logbook, and added some treasure of our own, which must have worked, as we had a very successful day today (I even managed to cross off a precious DNF later on in the day on my own)!
Thanks for the cache Brother Colin, a most enjoyable venture worthy of an FP from me.
Like some finders before us, we too had trouble at WP3. If only we'd looked harder the first time.
Dropped off pieces of eight (hope it works - sick of DNFs) and a TB.
Thanks for the fun BC - well deserved Fav Pt from us.
To wp2. At wp2 i took a little tumble after using what i thought was a nice sturdy rock to use to climb which crumbled and fell with me. I fell heavy on right hip grazed left elbow and must have twisted left knee as its quite painful now its cooled down. It was only a little sore for the rest of the walk.it took a little search to find coordinates to wp3, wp 3 was hard, we looked at what we thought looked like a likely spot but didnt look hard enough as after looking everywhere else i said its got to be here lets take another look. Sure enough bear0503 was able to see something. Is that it. Yes it is. Wp4 was another quick find and i see how the fangoski incident would have been . Bear053 fell over twice going an easy way down from this wp. But no injury. Off to the final and wow we were pleasantly surprised at the very neat and well organised cache. We brought along our treasure to be sure we do not suffer the curse and left some swaps to make sure. We made our way back to our cars. It seemed alot longer on the way back. We went to nearby park with champagne, fruit cheese and bikkies to celebrate a great afternoon. Thanks Brother Colin for placing this cache here for us to enjoy. Definitely a fp from me..
Champagne and nibblies at nearby cache.
Left some treasure of immeasurable worth just to be on the safe side.
TFTC
Well, was very careful around WP4, although I was unlikely to repeat the 'goodbye' moment of an earlier finder. Lucky I brought my climbing equipment today (Fingernails and sharp teeth, with a bottle of rum to dull the panic on the slopes!)
On to GZ, where the log was signed, no swaps, but added to the treasure chest - some pieces of eight taken from a trader in Constantinople.
TFTC, Bro Colin. I wish you would teach Mr LLJ about multi caches. Only about 3km walking for yours, as opposed to some 28 km for Mr LLJ's latest effort!
Like the previous finder, spent far too long looking around the third WP unable to find anything sensible.
As usual in these cases, ran out of time as lunch was beckoning. Will have to try again later when I renew my passport for this side of town. TFTC, anyway, Bro Colin.
With a late start at the bottom, I soon collected WP 1 and was heading down the wwwiiiiiddddee fire trail to WP2. There has been a hot fire here, so the landscape was bare and black. A short search turned up the required info. At WP3 , some fallen branches of a tree were obscuring the obvious location. However, a cursory look as per the clue was not fruitful. So I looked under others. After a while, I sat and pondered all around me. Of course! You sneaky bugger. And there it was. Nicely played! How is your back, Bro Colin?
One of the deceptive things about this area is just how hilly it actually is. I always seen to underestimate the hills in this area when looking at a topo map. Today was no different, and it is stupidly hot for early October. Onwards I plodded, up and more up.
WP4 was obvious again. I had heard stories abour this WP and quickly realised the purpose of the tether. . No problems at Final. I had forgotton my treasure, but added a couple of trackables, which I hope appeases the curse.
Many thanks Colin. Have a crooked favourite point for the effort to place a few of those waypoints.
Pete

So now I have to find something else to do. [)] Hmmm I could start my geocaching road trip and go find a cache with at least 10 favourite points.
I had secured my souvenir earlier and had returned to the geomobile to start the hunt for this one. WP1 was quickly located and I set off on the geocycle for WP2.
I made my way to the designated spot and I was greeted with scorched earth. Very recently scorched earth. Only one thing in sight that matched the hint and things did not look good there at all.
Luckily I know the CO so I gave him a call. The WP had survived the blaze and IolantheK had been out to give it a shiny new container, I just needed to find the right spot. The WP was well disguised with some burnt sticks, by I soon spotted it. New info obtained and I was on my way again, but not before I managed to trip over and fall flat on my face. Still on the phone to the CO of course, who was quite entertained.
Good thing I was wearing black because I was now black form head to toe. Well apart form the slowly spreading patch of red on my knee where I had managed to knock the scab off a recently healed graze. I decided to say goodbye to the CO and return to the bike with both hands free to save me if I slipped in my bike shoes.
Another short pedal to WP and a nice quick find there. Ditto with the next one which was easy to find in the burnt area. One more little pedal to the prize which was also quickly located.
I added my name to the log and made my offering to the cache booty too.
This was a fun little multi on the bike for me today. I had expected it to be much longer, harder and steeper, but it was nice and short and no real hills at all. [:o)]
A well deserved favourite point for your efforts on this one Brother Colin. PS you can stop laughing at me now
Arrived at parking co-ords and met up with a suspicious bunch. Down to WP1 for the first lot of info. Back up the road to the track for WP2. A small clamber uphill soon had the next co-ords.
On to WP3 and while I quickly located the GZ, the co-ords were missed. A second look and we were on our way. WP4 and the next lot of numbers were soon located, loaded into GPS and I'm off. There's a moral to the storey of never racing ahead. After finding myself about 60 metres down the hill, the rest of the group are calling out to come back. Seems the last lot of info, the nine should be a five [xx(].
Fortunately the CO came for the walk today and had us in the right spot. Log signed, photos done.
Dropped off Fire Chopper and Yellow Fire Truck TB's.
TFTC
We had 7 in our group; Selva Girls, FastEd 59, Barbbowman and myself all here to find the cache and Brother Colin, IolantheK and T-Tech along for the ride.
As I was driving down the road I saw T-Tech driving back past me. He must have just dropped IolantheK off, I thought. Then Selva Girls drove back past me too. Hmm, I must have driven too far. I did a U-turn and went back to where they were all parked only to be asked "Did you get the waypoint?" What?? Fortunately Barb and FastEd also needed it so we walked back down the road and soon found WP1.
Then began the trek up the hill to find WP2 which took us 2 searches to find, very clever .
At WP3 FastEd learned that it isn't always best being off ahead off everyone else. He went 60 metres down the hill while the rest of us learned that we made a slight error with the coordinates at the previous WP.
Then it was on to WP4 which has become a destination all on it's own, to see the object of the now infamous Fangsoki WP Rolling Incident. Fortunately we suffered no similar mishaps and were soon on the final leg of our journey.
The final cache was well worth the trek to get here. We were compelled to look at the Cursed Pistol and then oohed and aahed over the treasure before adding our own donations. I'd had a small panic the night before when I couldn't find my gold piece-of-eight which I've been saving for the last 11 months especially for this cache. Luckily I eventually found it - in a 'safe place' of course.
After taking a few photos to mark the occasion (Congratulations again to Selva Girls on her 1000th find) it was time to continue long the trail and find some more caches.
thank you for including us in your special day
so much fun
it would seem the gps is just a hindrance on this cache
and why are there so many embankments [xx(]
very proud of myself for getting to every waypoint
thank you Brother Colin for coming with us today and for the flag pin
yes it is already on my Dr backpack
took coin
left green ribbon
left NPG compass rose keyring for luck
I invited a few people to accompany me on my milestone. Rhyssa6, BarbBowman, FastEd59 and I were there to hunt for caches. IolantheK, T-tech and Brother Colin were there to witness the milestone and enjoy the walk and the company.
At the parking coordinates, we realised that we had driven past the first waypoint. Four of us headed to the waypoint to gather the information required. BarbBowman definitely had her caching eyes on, as she located the waypoint almost before the rest of us had arrived. We entered the information into our various devices and headed back to the cars, where the others were waiting for us.
The larger group headed down the track. Before long, we reached WP1 where BarbBowmans eagle eyes again spotted what we needed. She really did have her caching eyes on this morning. This pattern repeated itself until we go to the final.
As we approached the final, FastEd headed downhill. As my phone was pointing in the same direction, I started to follow. Then BarbBowman called our from further up that she thought she had found a likely hiding spot for the cache. As I approached, I spotted the cache. I was about to remove it from its hiding place when Rhyssa6 made the grab from the other side. She opened the cache to reveal the dreaded "Cursed Pistol". We all placed a token of our wealth in the cache and signed the log before I returned the cache to its hiding spot.
The group then set off to find the other caches planned for the morning.

Is seems the weather has had an effect on the tag.
A temporary fix at this point in time.
I shall return with the appropriate tools soon.
All good to go.
Parked at given coordinates and headed out about 4pm.
Found where we needed to be and all was running smoothly and we moved along to find this cache.
Until..... we arrived at the last one and when geopartner went to inspect it and photo the coordinates there was none. It had washed off in the weather and we could barely read the first one of South and East. A PAF was in order as we did not want to DNF this one and have the DNF curse for the rest of our caching days. Oh no. That would be disaster for me as I love my smilies I do log the occasional DNF but that is if I absolutely cannot find it or having caching blindness which happens.
After ringing my PAF and talking to them both, we were able to head to the final after a few blunders about of first heading about 500 metres one way and then heading about another 500 metres the other way as we came back I headed to where my instinct told me and the cache was found. I added my trinket to the cache as I did not want the DNF curse and signed the log. A big thank you to my caching friends for their help as I still would be out there in the bush peering into everything looking for the cache. As it was we headed back in the dark to the geomobile arriving just after 7 pm.
TNLTSL TFTC Thanks Brother Colin All good with this cache except for last WP. needs a rewrite.
Now we are tired
HOWEVER we retried it today and went the pathway and it turned out to be a pretty sick cache find with some unique and cool waypoints:D
We also became premium members the other day and this is the 4th brother colin cache we have attempted and we have enjoyed each one a lot#thanksbrothercollin:D
I needed a worthy cache for my #1000, and so this one was chosen The usual gang (albeit minus kids for a change) was assembled for the quest.
After some logistical challenges (mainly involving Apple Maps), Palopinto and I, along with NyletaM and Alkzura, made it to the starting point and set to work.
The container at WP1 amused and confused us. Still not sure what the connection is, but we certainly got a laugh out of it
And so off we set to WP2, which proved no challenge once the terrain was mastered. Next stop WP3, which took us a little longer until we looked somewhere we'd already looked and Alkzura spied what was needed. Oh! That is an impressive piece of work, Brother Colin! [^]
Off to WP4, and some appreciation of what the Fangsoki crew must have gone through Many laughs were had as the logs from that day were read along the trail. We're not sure the subsequent engineering effort would actually prevent a recurrence, but at least we managed to avoid the same fate.
Finally on to GZ where the generously sized cache was quickly located. The pistol was admired, and some treasure quickly added to the chest in the form of an English flag pin and some special pressed pennies.
The contents were further explored as the logbook was passed around and signed by all.
Thank you, Brother Colin, for a most entertaining cache and a worthy quest for a milestone. Everything was in perfect order. [^]
We all had a blast -- and I again thank my companions for their company and for sharing this milestone with me. [^]
So with EngPhil having reached his goal of 999, we set out to find the pistol and achieve a milestone for EngPhil. With our usual partners in crime, NyletaM and Alkzura, we found the relevant waypoints with very little trouble and the final was exactly where it should be.
Given our usual laundry list of dramas when the four of us head out together, I was surprised and pleased that we had very little trouble with any aspect of this cache. We were sure to leave some treasure to make sure this trend continues in the future
TFTC, and congratulations EngPhil on reaching 1000!
One was in a bad way.
All laminated cards have now been replaced with little metal Way Point tags.
Enjoy the walk.
WP2 needed a gravity-defying scramble but I made it without much hassle. This was the only technical hitch of the multi as the lamination seems to have failed inside and the digits are now getting difficult to read due to the water damage. Luckily they ARE still readable and the new WP looked exactly right so all was fine.
WP3 began poorly because I had thought the hint said that all WPs were the same: wrong! After a bit of poking around, I checked it again and saw the error of my ways. Just as I was about to start flipping things, a dog appeared above me. Uh oh. I hadn't seen a soul all afternoon. Then there were two more dogs and a female owner in view. She was probably quite surprised to see me skulking around in that particular spot, to say the least! As so often happens, she was quite happy to let her dogs come right down and jump all over me before bothering to call them off. Thanks a #%^^%# lot!
Anyway, discovering WP3 shortly after improved my mood immensely. Brilliant! This would have to be one of the greatest single WPs I've ever found.
Off to WP4 and another scramble; another laugh at what Fangsoki and gang must have witnessed; and off to the final.
I have been carrying a bunch of gold things for months, just for this cache. Did I remember to bring them today? Of course not! So I coughed up with the real stuff. Pretty sure that will keep the curse at bay!
Super work here, Br C: Fav point and *recommended*.
Guess what showed up at the top of the hill somewhere near the base of Camp Mountain ?
A treasure map hinting at the way to a fortune in diamonds and gold
Riding the pushbikes along the trails we soon realised that this treasure map was going to lead us a merry chase [:o]
It seems that Captain Colin liked cliffs and rolling or tossing things off said cliffs at enemies.
Still wishing we had packed the climbing gear we arrived at the 'X' (I remember that cache well) that marked waypoint three on the treasure trail.
Lots and lots of possible places for clues to be hiding, but in the end we worked out that diamonds were not the only rocks that Captain Colin had transported off the island.
I guess this one was a bit too heavy to make it into the final cache
Waypoint four and more detritus of the island was discovered.
It was safely anchored by a tree
Oh how I would love to have been a goanna on the tree, when the now infamous rolling 'incident', occurred here back in November last year
Finally the treasure trove was within easy reach of the geocycles.
Ruzzelz was more interested in finding the logbook for some reason ?
It seemed to be more valuable to him than the treasure chest !!
While my caching partner was otherwise occupied, I carefully opened the lid of the Captains chest.
Whoa!! Ice, ice baby
More bling than Mr T
And there was THAT pistol [:o]
I had to do the Clint Eastwood bit with it !
Oooh !! I had better leave some treasure
Hmm. Seem to have left all my real treasure back at home [:o]
Not to worry.... all this talk of curses is just hocus pocus
Or is it ?
I already have one of the highest DNF counts for Aussie cachers, so "what me worry ?" [:o)]
I took the Gazza the Green Gecko TB from the cache
Today I set out with a challenge which I had been saving to do for some time and achieved this with a combination of caches, from a milestone prospective I wish each of them could have been the individual milestone but collectively they are each of the number of milestones. I very happy that I was able to complete another series of caches and challenges with my CB IF.
The milestones for the day included:
• A great day out in perfect autumn weather in Samford and Brisbane Forest Park
• A ride to the top of Camp Mountain and beyond
• Completion of 2500 GC finds
Finds for the day included in order
• “The Cursed Pistol (2500)
• Camp Amethyst (a worthy cache which started the journey up Camp Mountain)
• Janus ( The reason to head to the top and take in the views at a nearby lookout)
• A Chamorro in Oz II (the climb just another couple of Km was worth the effort – at least coming back was easy)
• Trojan Rabbit (this was always the true target for the day made even better with the loop route that we undertook)
To each of the cache owners (Brother Colin, Amethyst Cat, Wingapp & gefscofix) thank you for your hides the collective experience of the entire day is what I will remember as being cache find 2500.
All told about 57 km round trip with 1167 m elevation gain required. That is what makes a great day caching and MTBing for me. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/161214960
When I first attempted this cache back in November I found WP1 easily, then got close to WP2, but soon realised that skirt and sandals didn't fit the bill, so had to give up. I suggested to my geospouse T-Tech that we might have time for it this weekend and he seemed keen, and when I mentioned to Brother Colin that we were attempting it he asked to join us so he could do a maintenance run (and I think he secretly wanted to watch some people make the search!) We set off at 1pm today well-supplied and kitted out for the assault.
We reached WP1 and T-Tech got the details for himself, then we headed off to the parking spot near to WP2 and began our walk. It is a seriously wide firetrail, and very deceptive, making one think that this shouldn't be too hard. Having been here before, however, I knew better, and was feeling very pleased to have shorts and hiking boots on this time, as that was quite a scramble up to WP2. BC sat down nearby to watch us search and seemed pretty pleased with his co-ords and the hiding spot. My descent back to the path was not a pretty sight, so I now have a long scrape down my right leg. Thanks for stopping me at the bottom, BC.
Onward to WP3, and here the fun began. BC again settled himself to watch, and T-Tech and I wandered down the slope. GPS was a bit off due to tree coverage, so we spent a bit of time discussing suitable hiding spots. We came across something that looked odd, but ignored it, then decided to have another look which revealed nothing, then had a think about a certain Lonely Spot we had been to before, and took another look at the hints, then went back to the same spot and had a third look, then, aahhh... How did you do that?!?!?!? No, really, that was quite a feat to put this WP here, go on, tell us! (You know you're just dying to, BC ) Great story! I really wish I'd seen all of it
Onward again, and now I was beginning to get a little nervous. Some of the previous logs tell terrible tales of misadventure at WP4, and knowing BC was watching made it all that more unsettling. After another scramble we found it, and I'm pleased to say that a slight adjustment has been made to the WP and we had no repeats of earlier disasters I am very glad about that because if what happened to Fangsoki happened to me I would have sat down and burst into tears!
We set off again, and shortly made our way to GZ. A likely spot was discovered and the cache soon revealed. And what a beauty it was! Great container, great contents, very neatly organised. Captain Colin's stash was most entertaining, and the pistol impressive. I wanted to take some of those diamonds home, but resisted the temptation, and to avoid the curse of the dreaded DNF's, T-Tech and I added our tokens to the hoard: mine a gold bangle, and his a silver brooch And I decided that it was time for Gazza the Green Gecko TB to have a rest here for a little while.
So thanks, Brother Colin. You put a lot of hard work into this cache and it is truly memorable. Even with you watching our every move, it was a fun adventure Definitely a Favourite point from me.
The final cache/Treasure chest proved to be quite impressive.
Well done Brother Colin for the "immense" task of putting this cache together.
But our day was far from over. IolantheK showed us that if we continued on this path we could do a round trip back to the car and pick up 5 more caches. Well that sounded like a nice way to collect a few more caches rather than back track, so off we went. I think that Brother Colin is very fit or mad or both, by the time we had ascended and descended our way from cache to cache and back to the car I was ready for a good lie down, whilst he looked like he could go on caching for ever. Thank for the exercise and additional caches BC.
A cool cache and some very creative waypoints heading into it. Left a small gold elephant to avoid the DNF curse. Took Gnometag Elias. SL. TFTC =)
Lokipagan, Totalube, La Kedi, and I set off from the parking co-ords and went about collecting the waypoints. I had been in here quite a few times for caching so I knew how the tracks went well enough.
It was an enjoyable and hot day.. but we found the clues relatively easily and managed to scurry where required.
On to the final waypoint (not the final cache)... and there was some... unpleasantness. Loki had found the waypoint and was waiting by it. I decided to take a look so I moved it with my foot... and thats when it happened. The waypoint rolled down the hill and then onto the path below and then acrross the path and then down the second embankment into a long gully
So of course I was dubbed "asshat of the day". Eager to right my "faux pas" - I charged down after it .. sliding and slipping down. I had seen where it went down but we had lost sight of it. I finally got to the bottom. I would estimate the thing rolled about 80m down fom the path Thankfully, I found it relatively easily.
I picked up the WP and lugged it up the hill. My good caching friends took turns in helping me get the beast up. It truly was a team effort getting it up back to the path. We got it finally... back to its rightful home and collected the final WP (yes this stayed intact). Onto the final cache and it was found easily.
We went past a few other caches and Wingaap called up for a chat. He kindly informed me he was waiting in the carpark with some sweet treats for us all. So we galloped back with some motivation. Many thanks to Wingaap for the snacks.
TFTC Brother Colin - I was happy I did not damage "that" waypoint I was quite sheepish about it The waypoints and final cache were done quite well on this one - good job
Well I must say well done on your FTF Mloe!
So a group effort was planned for this, with Lokipagan, Fansoki and LaKedi all taking part. Starting early to beat the heat we found WP1 easily, and set us off for a walk along a very familiar track .
At WP2, we (I ) completely missed the WP, that was only found on closer examination from one of my companions, now that is impressive, very impressive . Not sure how you did it, but very nice!
Now at WP3 was were our little (mis)-adventure happened! Now from my POV it went something like this:
Me: "Um, that wasn't the WP was it?"
Cachers not I will not name: "Yes!"
Me and LaKedi: "Oh Dear"
>
Soon after we decided to follow the WP, some following the "ridge", other following the ravine. Luckily once Fangsoki located the WP, all elements were still intact.
Then using a group effort we transported the WP, back to the path, and then eventually back from where it came.
The rest of the cache was much less eventful, and the final cache was found safe and sound!
After finding a few nearby caches we headed back to the car park, where a very thoughtful wingaap had some morning tea waiting for us.
Thank you for a great little multi, I was impressed by the WP and understand why you used the tool you used for their placement.
WPs 1 and 2 no problems. WP3 took a short hunt before Pagan and La Kedi double checked a previously searched area and voila! We oohed and aahed and puzzled over just how that was done as we took down the next coords. Then WP4 the fun really started . First there was amusement about Loki's chosen path and possible consequences. However all that was outshined by what happened next [^]. Loki was graciously waiting by the WP until the group had arrived. Fangsoki was next up and was a bit enthusiastic... In mute horror, we watched it disappear down, across and then down again. Deadly silence apart from the *bounce*, *crash*, *crack* that seemed to just go on and on. My that is one steep gully that goes for quite some way...
There was nothing for it but to follow. So off we went, Fangsoki leading the charge. Very luckily, we were able to locate it and then came the task of getting it all the way back up. Did I mention how steep it was???!
But in the end, good triumphed over gravity and all was right again. No more dramas and the final container was located without problems. Overall, a fantastic cache that we certainly won't be forgetting any time soon!
Thanks Brother Colin
PS Left treasure!
Others that follow......Please note this 'adventure'. LOL.
YOU DO NOT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN TO YOU!! [:(!] [:(!]
Watched WP1 sail past on the GPS as we approached, then toddled back to find it without hassle, before the real walk began. WP2 had us scrambling (well, Loki ran) to retrieve it, then WP3 took us a little while longer but elicited many comments of awe and incredulity once we located it! I'd really like to know how you did that!
But it was at WP4 that the fun really started, courtesy of Fangsoki, whose innocent little nudge effectively shifted the coords by, let's say, 100m or so. Downhill. I was still perusing the landscape, choosing my path, when the sudden noise had me looking down the path to see the waypoint bouncing across the road and inot the gully. "Was that...?", I called? "Yep." "Oh dear." It continued merrily downward, to the accompaniment of my helpful, "Still going. Yep, it's still going. Still going. I think it's sto... nope, still going."
It did, eventually, come to a stop. Bottoms of gullies do that. We looked at each other in consternation, briefly considered putting a "Needs Maintenance" on the cache (just kidding! We hadn't written down the coords yet ) and began our descent. Our steep descent. It's an impressive hill, I'll grant. More impressive when you move a waypoint like this one up it! Happily, we discovered it intact and began the long and arduous retrieval process. We did consider posting a "Corrected Coords" at that point, but...
At last, the Cursed Pistol was unearthed safe and sound, and our donations donated, though I suppose mine was kind of by proxy. Not risking a string of DNFs! To test that I hadn't been cursed, we then headed off to find two more local caches, both of which were found, so I think I'm safe.
Thanks for a more-epic-than-intended cache, Brother Colin! =^.^=
Today I got off to a late start. My bad there...this meant was hot plodding along these tracks. I certainly recommend a early start.
So much to say..but to say would give the game away. Ill just say I found the errr ummm detail put into the waypoints amazing...to say nothing about how you got them there!
Thanks Colin..it's a beauty!
Found the cache dry and in perfect condition. I added a couple of jewels said to be from the fabled HHOA (holy hand grenade of Monty Python fame). I certainly didn't want to be stuck with the dreaded dnf curse
A magnificent cache. I'm so glad I went out in the dead of night to find it; it was so befitting the mood. I loved it. I'll have to write a proper log in the morning but for now I am kaput. Thanks Brother Colin, I really appreciate that's gone into this hide.
Edit
I didn't notice this cache having been published until it was several hours old and I was really quite surprised it hadn't already been snapped up by one of the usual suspects. Then I read the tale of woe and intrude and it began to be clear why not. Yet an evil thought had been planted, and I wondered if I dared... It was late, but there was still a moon, and not much cloud. Maybe I could go treasure hunting after all...
When I first arrived at the start of the trail, I wondered if I hadn't made some sort of mistake. The arrow seemed pointed in the wrong direction entirely. This was not an auspicious start. I should have more faith. Obediently heading back the way I came the first way point was soon in hard. I'll admit I was mildly relieved; wandering around the bush at night is one thing, wandering around the bush at night on a wild goose cache is another.
As I followed Captain Colin's clues further and further into the forest I was struck by how easy it was to leave civilization behind. There was no light, no sound, nothing to give away that just over the hill was a city. I could have been a 50 miles instead of 500 meters from my car. I felt then I was very glad to I chose to come out tonight. And then the moon set behind the hills. Goodness it was dark now.
The next two way points were a bit trickier. Its amazing how many sharp and point things the bush can provide if the circle of light from your torch is all the light you have. Perhaps the curse was going to stop me after all. It was late, and I was tired and maybe this had all been a terrible idea, when I turned the corner and suddenly there was the moon again! My course now was directly towards the moon and it hung between the trees like a beacon showing me the way.
It wasn't far now and soon I had the accursed pistol in my hand. The Captain's efforts were not wasted! It had been well worth the journey. Not wanting to tempt fates I left a fist full of roman gold from a previous hoard before replace everything as it had been. I headed back to the world with a light heart, but heavy feet. A great adventure!
