This was a really fun cache with a great historical element. Clearly a lot of work has gone into making this. My focus was on Mt Basalt but seeing there was a trackable I made a detour to grab it. So pleased I did.TFTC

Found on 31/10/2022; find number 1586.
Making our way slowly home from Townsville, we originally planned to stop in Millmerran for a ingle night, however forecast horrible weather further south made us stop an extra night to let it blow itself out. That gave us the chance to do some exploring and caching.
We headed to this one for the interesting story and like others, we’re surprised to see more than a plastic box under a bush.
Great cache and an interesting historical site.
Recent floods made the drive in more interesting, with a few unscheduled river crossings Smile
A fav for the location and history for sure.

Thanks for the hunt and the cache Eskies5.

These types of caches remind us of what is so brilliant about the game - visiting interesting places we would never have known about! Love it. Definitely a favourite point. Will move the TB along. TFTC Smile

02-Oct-21
Went for a drive around the Pittsworth area finding geocaches on the way. This was an easy find on a country road. TFTC.

27-Sep-21
On my way home from the QOGM and continuing my outback adventures. Today it was leaving Goondiwindi heading up the Gore Highway to Toowoomba and then a slight detour to Highfields before a straight drive home to Brisbane. I had a list of caches to collect and places to see, some oldies and some for a grid position.

Next on the list was this interesting cache, interesting because of the history and that there is big plaque in the middle of a dirt road leading to nowhere really. I was not expecting to see this thank you for this cache and a favourite point to maybe encourage more people to this one. A sad piece of history but one that reflects the life and times of an older period in time.

We found the cache and signed the log before replacing it as found and moving onto the next on the list.

27-Sep-21
We were expecting to just find a container in the bush along a dirt road. Chamad and I were very surprised when we turned up at a historical site. Thank you for bringing us here.

26/1/21 Find #4542
It was Australia Day, and what better way to spend it that travelling through a bit of our glorious country and discovering some lesser known history?
Fangsoki and I had begun the day’s adventures in Leyburn, and were making our way up to Toowoomba, when Fangsoki mentioned this cache more or less along the way. It sounded like an interesting piece of history, so time for a quick detour.
Parking the car, we checked out the plaque and the cross in the tree before making our way to GZ through the spiders webs to make a quick find. I was glad it was quick, as the mozzies all of a sudden seemed relentless here. An appropriate cache container to fit the theme of the times for poor Mr Owen, such a tragic end he met.
Thanks for the cache Eskies5.

26-Jan-21
1MinnieMoo and I were in the area grabbing some caches. I suggested a detour of this one as the cache listing looked interesting.

We pulled up and found the plaque.. and the tree with the cross marking the incident. So sad for the fellow's family. We spanned out and soon found the hidden cache. We quickly signed the cache amongst descending mosquitos and and the moved off.

A very worthy area of a cache. Have a favourite point on account. TFTC PJATPAC and Eskies5 for looking after it Smile

Would never have stumbled across this memorial if a geocache had not been placed here. A tragic loss of life. We found the cache as about as quick as a tick found our youngest member. Quicker still was me grabbing it before it could bite . Tftc.

Another cache I have been keen to find for years. I have read the story of the poor fellow. Read the plaque and found the cache. Signed the log and returned to where I found it. Thanks PJATPAC for placing and Eskies5 for maintaining. All good with this cache. A favourite for this one.

Grey Nomads, now totally sick of the covid hold up time, and then more time in Brisbane for knee surgery. So now with the blessing of surgeons and physios, we hit the road again, and can get back to placing yellow smilie faces around Australia (Queensland for now)

Doing a few Kays around SEQ before we have to go see the doctor again, so filling in a few gaps on our map.

Camped at the weir, and out for what looks like might be a very interesting circuitous caching route. I was not proven wrong..... Interesting hides with interesting stories.....

Oh,How to live in the wild west when people could shoot you in the head over a 20 pound debt. Imagine how the very Rvd Mr Thackeray must have felt..... Interesting cache, interesting hide. Thanks PJATPAC and Eskies5 for adopting. Cache is in good order.

Found by Mary and David at 1240. A FP for everything here. We love history so this was a beauty. The cross on the tree is still visible. Fascinating to read the reprinted articles about the event, inquest, and capture of Ritchie under the bed. Dropped off "Wiji's Geowoodstock IX Official Event Geocoin". Our thanks to Eskies5.

Drove out here especially as we have cousins and fellow geocachers Newo2020 whose surname is Owen, so this was a must as we were in the area. A real interesting piece of history is marked here and a different cache Cameo as well !

What a fascinating tale. Thanks also for the extra bits of the story in the cache.
We would never have found this site or known this history if it wasn't for this cache.
The cross in the tree is ageing but still obvious.
Loved the container too.
Thanks heaps PJATPAC for a great cache.

After going to the 2015 Mega Event last week in Stanthorpe, we thought we'd go camping again this weekend at the free camp at Yarramalong Weir and head out the Felton Food Festival this weekend . We weren't disappointed at either event or campground [^]
And going camping meant we had Saturday spare to explore the area and pick up those caches that aren't on the major routes Smile

This cache is definitely getting a favourite point from us - the history, the cache container, the location [^]
Very well put together, a location we would never have stumbled across and we enjoyed reading the extra info inside the cache container about the incident that happened here a long time ago.
Lots of fun, loved it! Thanks so much for the cache today PJATPAC!

We are camping for a couple of nights at Yarramalong Weir.
We took a drive around the nearby area & picked up a couple of caches.
A very sad story, more to read inside the cache. The cross on the tree still there after all these years, the photo showsit better.
Thanks for placing this cache PJATPAC

Out and about on the first spring weekend for 2014, it is a beautiful sunny afternoon! Heading down the road I saw the sign for the historical marker and pulled up nearby, the local tractor driver waved hello and had a a quick read of the monument then onto the hide. Didn't take to long to locate the cache. TFTC and great history PJATPAC

TFTC for a quick find on my way to Leyburn. I'm going to award this one a favourite point for an excellent and interesting container. Oh, btw PJATPAC - I grew up in Millmerran and I didn't know about Mr Owen and this monument until today - some 25 years after I left home.

Found on 12-05-12 at 1.00 PM. A great piece of local history and a great way to spend a morning with the family.

Looked around for quite a bit, then once I re-read the encrypted clue, was able to go straight to the cache. Kicked myself for not reading the clue earlier.

Swapped one trinket for another and wrote in log.

65km from home.
My low slung Mazda 3 travelled along this road at 80-100Km/h no problem. Oh dear, I had planned a few caches out this way for my St Paddy’s Day Dash. I plan these in a software program that came with the GPS and have planned to work my way closer to Warwick on a bit of a zig zag course. Unfortunately my in car nav has other ideas and keeps sending me out to the Gore Highway, I have now driven through Pampas 4 times this morning, Pittsworth once and Millmerran twice, clocking up 260km to get to this cache which is only 65km from home and it isn’t even 10AM yet.
Took search a bit longer than planned but soon had the fantastic cache container in hand. I was so impressed with this, the location and the memorial, I’m giving it a fav point just because the tree is still alive.
Even after the recent rain, my low slung Mazda 3 travelled along this road at 80-100Km/h no problem.

Thanks for the cache PJATPAC.

Found at 1245. Quick find. TN SL. Left some of my pathtags. Number Twelve cache find for the day. This one on my return to home from Warwick to have a go at the three in the middle of nowhere. The road from Leyburn to GZ is mostly good gravel. Even in light rain I think it would be OK for a 2WD vehicle. If you come in from the northern end there is a lot less dirt/gravel road. Very well constructed and informative cache. Loved it. Giving it a favourite point due to its isolated location and the research and the creativity. I drove the road in light drizzle.

I Left home at 0400hours to drive 150klm to my first cache of the day. Had a plan and nearly stuck to it but as I finished up pretty close to Warwick decided to do three on the South side of warwick on the way to Stanthorpe. 12 for the day for a total distance of 670Klm and got home at 1600hours. Plenty of rest stops. Light drizzle most of the day.

Eventually got to this one my caching detour to Dalby after attending Stanthorpe's Big Weekend Event. It has been a bit of a drive but what a nice surprise of a cache [^] Was a little cautious entering the bush considering the cache name & being a lone female on a road in the middle of no-where!! TFTC & history PJATPAC!!
