Twisted Sadly this cache has been destroyed. But even more sad is the damage to the surrounding area. I expect it will take very many years to get back to its former glory. The cache itself, although badly melted, managed to protect most of its contents. The logbook, other than smelling of smoke, was in pristine condition. Some plastic contents were a bit melted, but the minidisc played fine. However, I have decided to close this cache, as the access paths have been destroyed, and the area needs time to itself to re-generate. Remaining contents will find its way to other caches. Sometime in the future there may be a Urambi Eureka II in this area.

Found 13:30, a great day for a stroll along the river bank, or even to work on an all over tan as another visitor to this area was doing. The horizontal walk was a pleasant change to the vertical ones we have been doing of late.

Took Guerilla Leader action figure and left party pack (balloons and poppers).

This was a long walk. The track from Kamba pool is overgrown, and disappears in places, requiring some creativity in picking up the route. No danger of getting lost as you go along the riverbank, but be prepared for some rock-hopping and bush-bashing. Once I got to the vicinity finding the cache wasn't too hard. Can't remember what I left, but I took the M&Ms, which I ate about half of on the journey back, but they must've got knocked out of my pocket on the way as I didn't have them when I got back to the car park. So anyone going for this cache next has a chance at a free half a packet of M&Ms on the way!

Found after a trying walk along the river. Being tired after walking up 2 Canberra hills in the morning probably made it seem much worse than it really was. We definitely recommend checking out the lookout near the cache as suggested by ThomasS. Nothing exchanged. Greg and Bev

Undoubtably the best cache in Canberra, if only because it's not on a hill!! Very pleasant walk along the river on a sunny winters day. We admire any MTB's who have attempted this, as the tracks pretty rough at the moment.
Found the stash in the most obvious spot, took nothing and left mini M&M's.

Nice walk along the track from the swimming hole, alot of trees down over the lower track.. left the run abit late and it was getting dark by the time we found the cache.

It was hidden pretty well, but the keen eye of the kids saw it first..

Cheers

Well, my first cache-hunt outside the Hunter Valley, and I managed to avoid the plague of mountain peaks that seem to infect the ACT caches I've seen listed.Big Grin

A nice long walk, no difficulty for an able-bodied adult. For little kids from 2 years to 6, it got a bit tricky. At least until they opted for the soft option and got carried. For about 2kms!Wink

Still, they did seem to like the scenery, and were very impressed about the ice still on the pools next to the river. 1.30pm and the ice was 1cm thick in sheets up to 3 metres wide. Very cool.Cool

When we found the cache the kids went on a swapping frenzy. I know evryone got something each, and I topped it all back up with plenty from the goodies bag. Took a few photos of the rug-rats having fun with the ice, and playing on the river banks (will post 'em after they get developed).

I'm logging this at 10.30pm, the kids have been crashed [|)]for hours, and I'm about to do the same. A good cache, and an excellent bit of exercise for anyone who can drag along some little kids.

Thanks for the fun.

*** MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS ***

well set off late afternoon with mabs and VK2TDG, we decided to cross the river first before we headed to the cache (good job we didnt!) and stumbled through a nudist beach (!). we only found out what it was later and realised what the weird looks to three geeks with radio's and gps's were doing on a nude beach were for!! decided not to cross and headed down the river bank all the way trying to comprehend why all the other people said it was a easy stroll and why mtbikeroz got a bike through!!! found it. took the breakfast/sports bar thing and split it between us as we were starving and set off to get to red rooster before dark fell (apparently in about 20 minutes according to the gps) and stumbled onto a bloody walking path about 2 minutes after mabs got ripped to shreads by blackberry's!! walked half the way back in the dark on empty stomach's and with one broken toe but well worth it for a great cache!

Went out with mabs and robc, thought we needed to get across the river, so headed downstream after having a chat to the ranger.. Fortunately we couldn't find the way across, so decided to make our way back upstream. After about an hour and a half of forcing out way through shrubbery, we were finally at the cache coordinates, and found the cache itself after a short search.

Being way hungry, we swapped a blank minidisc for the breakfast bar, and rob and I hoed in. After joking about how crazy the previous visitors must have been, to have mountain biked in, and considered it an easy walk, we headed off.. Heading off up the hill to see if there was an easier way out, we found a walking trail! D'oh!

Took about 35 mins to make our way back to the car, then headed off to our usual after-urbex meeting place, Wanniassa rooster.

Good cache!

Took the crew out for a sunny saturday walk on Anzac day W/E. A great spot, will be a good one to introduce the Landie kids to over night camping back pack style. The kids found the stash and made three swaps. Talking with the kids we missed the easy track to the beach (Figured I didn't need to monitor the gps too closely - oops). Got to the lookout and climbed down the rocks and walked back along the beach. Climbed down the rocks with Junior landie on my back, he enjoyed it. Looks like a fun MTB ride.

Great day. being mtbikeroz, just had to ride in - all the way except a few of the larger up-steps. Very pleasant spot, walked from lookout though - wheels no good in that terrain. Nice pleasant spot - with abseilers nearby. Lots of water roaring down river. Just visiting - no swaps.

What another beautiful day in Canberra. Sunny, Blue skies and very pleasant temperatures.
I started from Kambah pool and walked along the bush track. At the car park the gps said the cache was 1.6kms away. So it was a nice easy stroll beside the river. I found the cache with out much trouble. The suspiciously piled rocks are always a giveaway. I swapped the pack of stickers for a key chain.
Good one. Thomass.

We think this is the best cache in Canberra and really enjoyed the walk and the views. After reading some of the other logs we decided to try the abseil approach. After loading up the pack with 60 metres of 11mm rope, cams, hexs, nuts and quickdraws we set off. So we walk out to the location and find we don’t need any of the stuff. We had no trouble at all following the marked track to the cache and did not see any need to abseil. However the canoe option would be great fun but you would need to do a car shuffle.
Excellent one ThomasS

Flamin Heck!!
What a Trek!!
Took some friends cause it was *only* 2.7Kms from
my house.
Started at the bridge on Atthlon Drive. From which it is 3.3Km. Then pretty much GOTO from there.
Had trouble getting to the cache once reached the
lookout. No way down there. But from the creek, no way through. Had to walk further on away from cache to find path down to the water. Then my GPS sent me 12 metres past the cache. Only an Eagle-eyed wife trailing behind me found it. Otherwise might have had quite a search.
Friends aren't sure what to make of this geocaching I think the walk nearly killed them (it nearly killed me, and I'm a lot fitter)
Great Cache. Left box of coloured chalk, A Milk Jug, A packet of kids stickers. The kids took a McD's Footy, and a seahorse, and a keyring.
Thanks for a great 5 hours. I'll bring my abseiling gear and stop at Red Rocks on the next trip. 2 searches - 2 finds - 100% success ratio so far!

The coordinates of this cache put it at 1.9 nautical miles from my home, so I thought I would tackle it after work in place of my usual power-walk around the local nature trails. A rough guestimate of the location didn't tally with any of my usual walking tracks and it was late in the afternoon; so yours truly simply hit the GOTO button and made a bee-line for the cache site. Getting to the edge of suburbia was easy and then it was hill and dale as the crow flies. The kangaroos didn't hang around but I was wondering if I had just walked into a bullfighting ring! They just kept staring and that was the way that I liked it. Closer to the cache the terrain gets a bit rugged so the walking tracks became a better bet. By the time I was getting close, the sun had set behind the range of hills and the light was falling. The final clue was a godsend as the satellite geometry wasn't crash hot in this location as well as there being some tree cover attenuation. The GPS position error was up a bit compared with a clear sky horizon-to-horizon view. A bit of a fossick for a couple of minutes and a glint of plastic gave it away. I logged the find (the first one for this cache...yay!), left a red fluoro pen and took a nappie safety pin.

Now the tricky bit...getting out before it gets too dark to find my way home. My directional instincts now gave me a better estimation of where I actually was and I found an old vehicle track which led to where I half expected. With 20-20 hindsight, this would have been a much easier way in, despite being well off-course of my original track. Negotiated a couple more herds of cattle (this time the bulls were a bit more curious), and then finally hit a familiar strip of macadamised overlay. It was dark at this stage, so a quick phone home to take a raincheck on the search party and a brisk walk home to burn off some more calories rounded off another successful mission.
