Seems like this one might be lost again, and with recent building near GZ making it too muggly I think it's best I archive this cache and look at placing a new version elsewhere

22-Jul-15
Sounds like it's gone again or too well hidden - will check on it ASAP....

22-Jul-15
The co-ords I got pointed to a large bush which i searched for quite a while. I was unable to find the cache suggesting that it has either been muggled or been hidden too well.

31-May-15
Glad to have found our first Victorian cache. Didn't get the puzzle when we first looked at it a while ago, but came back to it yesterday and this time we were in luck. On a wet autumn day there were no muggles in the park but plenty of leaves to keep us occupied!! TFTC.

25-Apr-15
At last with the correct coordinates, I made the find on a deserted rainy morning in a well hidden spot, which took me a while to find. The puzzle was solved a while ago using an interesting numbering system , thanks for the puzzle the cache and the assistance Smile

04-Apr-15
Having looked at this puzzle many times in the past 18 months and not doing the required research, it remained one of the closest "unfound" mysteries to me.
Yesterday I re-visited the cache page with a sense of determination.
Getting sidetracked (and solving another puzzle not too far away) I ended up putting it aside for the night.
Today I tried again and it seems that the planets aligned for me.
(You know that moment when "The penny drops".)
After a short recon this afternoon, I decided to return at 11:00 pm precisely!
On our way home from dinner in the Yarra Valley, the Eclipse was almost full when we arrived back here.
Under cover of darkness (during a Full moon!) the search began.
Methodically working my way in a clockwise direction, the cache was located at 6:00 O'clock.
Thanks for the very interesting cache quiet1_au.
A bonus of 226 {Unloved} days made it even better.
A favourite point for this fantastic cache.

29-Mar-15
New container - please hide well but not too well. MAy be the last time I replace it...

09-Mar-15
I think it's gone missing (or lost deep within) so will replace soon....

19-Oct-14
Searched at my calculated gz , I will have go back and check my coords as a search through the bushes near corner turned up nothing

22-Aug-14
Simple puzzle but I liked it a lot. Cache hide good, managed to get surprised by a council groundskeeper who appeared out of nowhere and inquired what I was doing, but luckily he knew about Geocaching already and had seen them on occasion in some of the parks in the area (and knew to leave them be!). TFTC!

Once upon a time I used to visit Bowen St every week to look after a young autistic boy until his family got home. I have memories of watching the opening 15 minutes of Grease every visit because that was his favourite film and I was only there for 15 minutes before they got home!

Anyhow, a clever puzzle and thankfully a quick find.

Cheers,

R - B

Thought I had the correct coords and came to find this about 6 months ago to no avail.
Had another look at it a week ago and realized I had worked out the puzzle incorrectly. Found it reasonably easily today using the correct coords. Thanks

Minor update to the cipher due to new information gathered.

23-Apr-14
I managed to solve this on my own which is quite the feat. Now that training is in south melbourne I come home this way and it was time to stop in. The coords were spot on and I soon found the nicely sized cache lurking in its hiding spot. I sat on a nearby bench to sign the log and I was on my way within five mins of my arrival.

Thanks quiet1 for the cache.

It has been a long time coming, but finally I picked this one up Big Grin

I came up with a set of co-ordinates 9 months ago but upon going on site, quickly realised I was way off.

Over Winter I started again and deduced some new co-ordinates. The cold, the wet, and the leaves beat me and I gave up after a couple of attempts.

Then the CO updated the hints a few months back, which gave me the inspiration to try again. I found the information required that confirmed my original co-ordinates were correct (plus explained why my weird calculation method made sense) and so I headed on site. And again. And again.

It seems like every kind of distraction was there each morning I visited: school kids and mummies pushing prams, a group of exercising muggles, builder muggles next door, slow-moving-man-with-slow-dog muggles, and so on.

Today I got lucky and with nobody in sight, ferreted around and retrieved the container. Job done!

Thanks quiet1_au for the extended challenge of my patience. Now back to that Bacon cache... still working on it Smile

02-Jan-14
Today we decided to head out and grab some puzzles we had solved. This was the first one on our list and we were worried for a second that it was missing, however after a little dedicated hunting we turned up the hide. A great little park that was being well utilised by families in the sun. Thanks for the cache.

Four sets of eyes and about one rotation of the clock left me witg naught. This riddel has me

12-Dec-13
Yeah. Got it. Unfortunately cap had come off, and water and snails had got in. Not much left except for a piece of paper. Think it might have been muggles; found the cap several metres away by chance.
Took it home to clean it up etc, will return it tomorrow am. Think that might be against geocache protocol, but wanted to help.
Have added a pen,a golf ball, a wristband, paperclip more paper.

Thanks

P.S TRICKY!!!

Cannot find this one despite several attempts. SadWill keep at it, as certain we are in the right part of the park. Loved the clue!

Replaced with a new container

22-Aug-13
I'm sorry that so many of your caches have had to be disabled, quiet1_au. From the number of favourite points they have between them the hides seem to have been as good as the puzzles. It was just unfortunate for *Cache_or_Check* and me that we tried to find so many of them all at once! I look forward to them being replaced so that I can enjoy finding them another time Smile Thanks for all the work you have put into your caches and especially into the puzzles!

21-Aug-13
Checked on the cache tonight, and although GZ has grown a lot since I placed the cache and I didn't have the coordinates on me I was pretty sure of the right spot. Sadly, not only the cache but the hiding place itself appear to have gone. Will return with coordinates during the day for a proper check but think I'll have to rework the hide Sad

What better way to spend International Geocaching Day than ... geocaching! I met up with *Cache_or_Check* early on Saturday morning to pick up some of the puzzle caches in the area. He was visiting from Adelaide, and had been working on the Melbourne puzzles for some months. Having made arrangements to meet up for a few hours of caching, I caught up with solving some of the puzzles myself so that I could log them without feeling guilty Razz

We had worked our way from the beach up to this much more familiar part of the world (not too far from where I work). Still, familiarity with the area was no help in finding this cache. The hint given completely underestimated the effect of autumn and winter on this location. The brown leaves formed a layer of mulch about a foot deep, covering the entire garden. We spent some time kicking them around, but gave it up. There was no way we were going to find a micro at ground level in among those leaves. This was our sixth of seven DNFs on a frustrating and disappointing day.

Thanks for another puzzle, quiet1_au. The puzzles are great, but some of the cache hides could be a bit more ... you know ... clever ... to match the puzzles ... Smile

17-Aug-13
International Geocaching day was spent in the Inner SE suburbs in the company of the lovely QueenK8 in search of Melbourne Mystery Caches. Visiting from Adelaide it was great to have her company and to have a local to guide me around the streets.

With 3 DNFs in the last 4 cache attempts we were ready to turn over a new leaf.... But we weren’t counting on having to take it that literally. The leaves were stacked up to over a foot high (funny about that with a huge oak tree in winter) and despite moving a few cubic meters of rotting material no micro cache was found.

04-May-13
This morning, gmj3191 picked me up at 9:15 and we made our way over to Malvern (not Mulgrave, as I had previously thought) in order to attend the WWFM event. After attending we managed to get out and find a few caches in the area, including a few puzzles I have had in my database for quite a while now. A great day and some great caches found. This find was the 5th of 9 finds today.

Like other Q1_au puzzles, I have had the solution to this one stored in my database for quite a while now. Finally got a chance to pick it up today.

Geoff had already found it but he was willing to take me to it anyway.

Since we were getting a bit pushed for time, I didn't have much time for a proper search so Geoff had to give me a little nudge.

Thanks again Q1 Big Grin

PS, sorry for such a late log (writing this on 1/9/13) but I guess its better late than never!

I'd had a hunt around for this cache a few weeks ago, but the GPS was not being helpful and there were just so many leaves everywhere, I couldn't see a thing. Also, there were family's with children coming in and out of the park the whole time. Today I had better luck, I knew what I was looking for, there were less people around and I made the find reasonable quickly.
I enjoyed this puzzle, and was able to solve it, and check the answer with the owner at a puzzle solving evening way back in the middle of last year. It's good to have picked up another of my list of solved puzzles.
Thanks for the cache and the puzzle quiet1_au!

Find 617 at 22:02. I was out on an evening caching run with Big Blank and we were targeting caches in the Hawthorn area. In all we ended up with 12 finds for the night and this was our third find for the evening. I really enjoyed this puzzle and it was only by chance that I knew exactly how to solve it. The search around GZ took a little longer than we had hoped but eventually I managed to shine the torch in exactly the right spot and we were soon on our way.

Thanks for another great puzzle, quiet1_au!

Find number 267

Out with PantherX. After spending some time solving puzzles we were on a mission to add them to our tallies.

We had solved the puzzle sometime earlier thanks to PantherX doing so impressive deduction and as it was in the area of our run we added it to the tally, after a quick search yielded the prize.

This was success number 3 of 12 on this outing.

Thanks quiet1_au

Found this with FTG... Spiffy had already found it..so he sat back and watch us scavenged for the cache.. eventually it was FTG that had it...again!.. TFTC!

23-Feb-13
On a run with Spiffy- and E01707 that had taken us close to this cache and it was one I had solved, but not collected. Today was the day. With Spiffy- relaxing as he had found this previously, E10707 and I began the hunt. Took a little bit of searching, but I found the container and had the log signed. Left my apple on the tree though as I realised later on. Oh well. TFTC.

Was covered extremely well.
A great puzzle,
thanks quiet1 au [:x]

Found 4:20pm , find # 1888
I Had rushed out to try for an FTF on one in Oakleigh, and having not been successful in that mission, decided to continue on and find a few more since I was in the locality.
This was the last one in my short run.
It took me quite a while to find as the leaves has built up somewhat.
It was the same type of hide as the first one for the day where I just missed the FTF.
Left it lightly camo'd rather than covered, but I don't think it,s a muggle risk.
Thanks quiet1_au.

Successfully solved the puzzle with a lot of research and then went and found the cache this morning. A couple of people right up the end of the park couldn't see what I was doing but it was nice and wet because the sprinklers had been turned on. I impressed myself solving a puzzle and finding the cache. TFTC.

In a bid to convert some of my "?" to Smile, I have managed to solve 12 "?" in the past week - now to go and collect them. My second quiet1_au today. Lovely little park. As promised Q1 Leapfrog TB - Growling Grass Frog, made a visit with Dudley. Today he is a tree frog. TFTC.

I had solved this one quite a while ago but due to various reasons (e.g. not having the final location in the O3 Red Face, muggles Sad, ineptitude [8)]), I hadn't been able to obtain a smiley. A chance meeting with another cacher recently gave me that little chunk of info I needed so I headed over here for another look while everyone else was being miserable at the Rivoli Wink.

Even with knowledge of the hide at hand, it still took me a few moments to locate the sneaky blighter but persistence finally paid off and I was signing our first log of the year at 14:35 Big Grin.

TNLNSL, although a few of our geocoins had a visit to mark the occasion. Thanks and [red]Happy[/red] [orange]New[/orange] [purple]Year[/purple] quiet1_au.

24-Dec-12
I solved this puzzle at home before my trip to Australia as it appeared to be the nearest cache to my friend's home Big Grin Today on my way to Chrismas dinner I quickly stopped to search. Second round through GZ was successful. No people in sight but a piece of local fauna was greatly offended by my precence Wink

15-Dec-12
I've been having a go at a few puzzles lately so this was next on my list. After a bit of research I found the information needed to work out the co-ordinates. Being dinner time there weren't many muggles in the park. I looked in the vicinity of GZ and then noticed something out of place, which turned out to be the cache. I signed the log at 7:10pm and then returned the container to its hiding spot. The container was a bit wet on the outside but perfectly dry inside thanks to the sealant the CO has used. TNLN.

Thanks quiet1_au for the interesting puzzle and and cleverly camo'd cache. I can understand why you wanted to put a cache in this small park. The gardens are absolutely wonderful and the old oak and pine trees are enormous. Surprised

08-Dec-12
I looked at this puzzle when it was published and got nowhere but eventualy looked at it properly a couple of weeks ago. Did some googling and finally identified what the heck these symbols meant, then just had to get some numbers out of them! Finally got something thta looked reasonable so headed off to GZ for a hunt. This was over a week ago. I started the search and couldn't find anything at a quick glance, then a muggle family came into the park and set up their cricket set right opposite GZ so headed off. Drove past last Monday but the scouts were filling the park so didn't even get out of the car. Today I tried again and found the park deserted so walked back to GZ where the cache was found quickly this time as I could have a proper look! Thanks to quiet1_au for this one.

23-Nov-12
As previously noted, I had solved this a while ago while searching for quiet1_au's other puzzles. What a brilliantly named cache given the puzzle and location!

Had saved this for my 200th find and tonight, with geoson driving, we arrived at GZ and made the find very quickly. Another clever hide which should not be muggled or water damaged!

Thanks for the fun, the challenge and for the cache, quiet1_au.

As I've cleared out my nearest traditional and multi caches to fill in my GeoCalendar I left behind a fair few puzzles. Every so often I get a run of enthusiasm and look to solve some. This one seemed straight forward when I started and quickly I was scribbling a set of co-ordinates but I just couldn't get a set of sensible numbers out. Left it for a few weeks and then returned to it as a solved a few others puzzles. This time I had the same brain block but then finally saw my error and the co-ordinates spilt themselves across the table. Today I popped out while it was raining, as I thought GZ would be easy to visit in this weather, and after a few minutes at GZ and I had the cache log to sign.
Thanks quiet1_au, I set off on a goose chase but eventually got my head around your thinking.

26-Sep-12
Solved this one this morning after hours puzzling over quiet1_au's puzzles. I actually found the key to this one, while searching for the key to his Carnelian puzzle. Anyway, decided to dash out for a search, but found the park infested with happy muggles playing all over. I wandered off to find another cache and returned to find the park almost empty, with only one group a while away. Sat on a bench to consider my options...and almost immediately a mum walks in with her toddler; a young man walks in and sits just behind me; and then children start pouring out of the house nearby. Arrgghh! Took the CO's advice and left to retrieve on another day, maybe not during school holidays.

25-Aug-12
Came back for another look today, and my suspicions about the type of hide were confirmed, as I spotted it as I approached GZ. A quick grab and sign this time. That brought a smile to my face. Thanks quiet1_au for the cache.

Found with Rebel Acts, This was a nice area to visit. Thanks for the cache.

19-Aug-12
Found with Crazy! Nat Girl on another Sunday caching run, Had a nice quick find on this one, I noticed the plant at GZ is rather unusual, it shoots a flower out of the centre of the leave. Thanks for the cahe.

Found @ 00:05. I needed a cache today for p366. I ventured out late to combine a find for yesterday as well but by the time I got here the heavens had opened up. I'd solved the puzzle soon after it was published but left it until I was in the area. Now that I was in the area I figured I'd not let a little rain put me off.
As it turns out, it was a lot of rain in a short amount of time - just when I was looking. I managed to make use of some nearby shelter for the worst of it, and again for the signing once I'd located the hide. Of course the deluge ceased once I'd returned to my transportation (just as I was about to look for Noah).
Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables.
Thanks for the cache quiet1_au.

13-Aug-12
Spotted this one on the way to work today and decided that it would be a good grab on the way home. I had a look at the puzzle during the day and while I had an idea about it I also needed to pull on other 'resources' that I had available. A few messages back and forth later and the few bits that didn't quite make sense to me (I am still new at this whole puzzle solving thing!) GZ was sorted. The find probably took longer than I wanted but with a few muggles wandering through and a police car hanging around for some unknown reason the hunt took a little bit longer. Either way, found it, signed it and moved on. TFTC.

After meeting up with lochb, alansee and princessdiala and from the help of lochb we headed off to find the cache.

we arrived and parked nearby to see a group of people doing Tai Chi.

They paid very little attention to our searching, in which we managed to locate the cache nice and quickly.

Trying to catch up finds from months ago, apologies for the belated log.

Found in the company of Alansee, Coley_Babee and lochb.
I wont take credit for solving the puzzle, as I didn't. But I instead keep smart company of whom already had this one solved.

Thanks quiet1_au for this cache.

First find for the day in the company of PrincessDiala, Alansee and Colee_baby. I'd made a start at this puzzle a while ago, read Dr Jim's log about this puzzle being similar to another one further north... and solved that other one instead and found that cache. I then had another look at this one, but somehow struggled with the larger numbers. A hint from the cache owner helped, I solved it properly again last night and off we went this morning. TFTC, quiet1_au! I love number puzzles!

Find # 1929

Today I had a few hours spare to find some caches, so I picked up my caching partner in crime SedgwickDave and we headed towards the Hawthorn area.

This one took some time in the search, we had a couple of pauses for muggles, but eventually we found the clever little hide, covered in Autumn leaves.

Thanks to quite1_au for the cache.

Found @1005 #1745
Out on another Saturday caching run with caching buddy ahomburg this morning as we both had a few hours free.

Finally solved this one a few weeks back after initially not having any luck when it was first published. Learnt a bit doing this puzzle and in the end some help form google got me over the line. Today the cache was on the list and after a brief search the cache was finally spotted by ahomburg who search where I had looked but just not well enough (as is always the case). TFTC quiet_au, really enjoying your puzzle caches, a favorite.

Find #374

Had forgotten that I had solved this one when it first came out. As we are staying temporarily ( although not temporarily enough) with my mother-in-law while our house is being renovated.

Driving past this one with Mr. 3 On the Way back from school drop off. figured that as there was a play ground here that this one would be a good choice today.

Instantly saw one thing at an extremely leafy ground zero that led me to suspect what the camouflage may be. Surely enough the sneaky little beggar was found soon after.

Signed the log and went for a play in the park on a lovely cool morning.

Thanks for the cache and the fun. Smile

I had teamed up with Listmaker for a handful of caches and was very glad that I did. I had solved this one easier than many here will as I had previously done a very similar one in South Australia.

At GZ the very large Oak tree had done what Oak trees do at this time of year and made the search much harder than normal. Also the cache, although in a logical enough spot, was not in any of the locations that either of us thought was most likely. In the end after a bit of removal work it was Listmaker who found the hide, thank goodness.

I was very glad to have teamed up with Alansee to find this one - I lack the puzzle solving gene.

A few little muggles and their mums were making good use of the nearby play equipment on this sunny winter's day, but they didn't seem too interested in our leaf excavation.

And what a lot of leaves there were! I finally took a step back and looked at the overall pattern of the planting. Could it possibly be???? Yep, gotcha. It was an exciting moment. Big Grin

Thanks so much for the cache, quiet1_au.

Tonight the TDC boys were finally back together as a trio and we'd planned a HUGE twelve hour plus cache run for the night. With sixty plus caches on the list for the night we were being a bit optimistic but as it turned out we were able to smash that and some during our cache blitz. The weather was generally quite good for us during the night with only a few light showers dampening the atmosphere. Overall we were very happy with the nights journey and outcome, with each of us knocking a couple of project 81 finds on the head as well.

We met up at our rendezvous point and began working our way through the Box Hill area east to Bayswater and Ringwood then back west to pick up a couple of must do challenge caches. From there we headed further west to Williamstown before making our way back east again and then down the bay through Malvern and on to Sandringham. We had a great night where we managed to find a variety of caches including two nice challenge caches and even a couple of Earth caches. Luckily we were able to, on most occasions, find each cache very quickly before zooming off to the next one.

After completing our Williamstown part of the run we made our way back around the bay to clean up there. After a bit of research I had the puzzle solved not long after it had been published so it went on the 'to collect' list. Tonight we were caching the area and it was a perfect night to find the cache. Nice puzzle. Thanks for the hide.

Another legendary night caching run with The Demolition Crew - TDC. Tonight an exceptional run, with around 65 caches found over a nice 12 hour caching run, starting at about 5pm, and finishing at about 5am. The run took us from Bayswater to Ringwood, then west to Williamstown to pick up a bundle that way, then east again to collect some more which were on our extensive list....

A couple of earth caches, a stack of mysterys and multis, and two challenges - The Unloved Challenge and the Night Caching Masters Challenge. We all also knocked off a couple of Project 81 finds, leaving us only a handfull to go. A great night as usual, with great company with two of my best mates. Some funny chats and some great walks as well.

Adrian already had this one, and having solved it some time ago, it was time for Marty and I to collect the final. We spent a fair while searching, but assumed as a good hider, you didn't have it in a spot where we would have to trample anything, and we were right. After moving enough leaves we found what we had in mind the hide would be. Left it a little clear of leaves to make it a bit easier for the next. TFTC, enjoyed it.

Found at 1:16pm.
Took me a while before the penny dropped and I solved the puzzle. I stopped in today on my way past on my way to the WWFM event.
The drizzle kept the muggles away and allowed my to search in peace. I knew what I was looking for from the description but still took my a few minutes to find.
Thanks quiet1_au for the puzzle and the cache. It was nice to finally meet you at the event.

I got the jist of this puzzle pretty soon after starting it, but I messed up some details, and was given advice by the polite cache owner with pretty much every aspect of the cache following that Smile So thanks for the simple puzzle and the assistance as well!

I made my way to ground zero after dark, with 1 muggle and his dog at the other end - they probably decided I was a weirdo, as they left soon after. My torch had run out of battery, so I found the container by the light of my GPS, a fairly tough task. However the cache can be picked out from the surrounds using faint light, lucky for me that I didn't need to dig and trample through the garden bed.

29-Apr-12
The puzzle was something that I was familiar with, so was able to come up with a plausible set of co-ordinates. We stopped by today and had a look, but didn't turn up the cache. Looking now at the description again and reading some of the previous logs, I can guess what I should have been looking for. No such access to this information out in the field unfortunately - the pitfalls of caching with notes scralled on bits of paper Smile. Thanks for the hide anyway, I look forward to having another look in the future.

JMelb and MMelb were having a lazy morning. Being wet and a public holiday GMelb took the opportunity to get some puzzle caches solved but not found. When this puzzle came out I had a look at this and thought I knew how to solve. However it took longer than than I expected and so it was parked into the puzzles to solve pile. I picked it up again recently and quickly finished it off. Like others I had an idea of what this might be which made the find easier. Thanks quiet1_au

GZ now in hands. Nice one!

Well done drjim7 & josiey for FTF (I haven't checked the log but I believe you Smile )

You're quite right about the similarity with Popul Vuh which I'd completed it last year - it was in a way the inspiration for this puzzle. Smile

Solved it yesterday and was out for an evening jaunt, but decided that cornering the market on your pathtags was poor form Smile Congrats to josiey and drjim7 on FTF! Dropped in at about 6:30pm after picking up some groceries, and found it even though it was already dark and I left my torch at home! Thanks for the cryptocache, hopefully we can run into each other some time on a combined effort.

This cache could be a cousin of one of [url=http://coord.info/GC35W5C]mine[/url]. The puzzle looked familiar to me but once it clicked I was shocked what a very old memory it had triggered!
I mucked about with this for what seemed too long. JosieY made the find and we were very pleased to see a clean log.
This was the first of three *FTF* in a heavy night of cache publication.

*FTF* with drjim7. I yelled out to him "come and help me cook the dinner" to which he replied "I can't, I'm solving a puzzle". But we ate dinner then we had another look at the puzzle then I went to do the dishes and soon drrjim7 figured out what he had to do. We speedily put the younger children to bed then raced out of the house as we were a bit concerned that we were too slow. We were therefore relieved to get to the park and open the cache and find the quiet1 pathtag. Nice cache container in a perfect position. Thanks quiet1 for a great puzzle and cache.

One of my v2 pathtags is on top of the log as the FTF prize.

Please take note of the instructions re: extracting the cache (only inside part to be removed)

Roll the log up quite tightly it fits best if placed "horizontally" as per instructions on zip-lock bag - no need to fold the ziplock seal that way just roll it around the log.

Thanks & enjoy!
