Its always good to to turn a blue face into a smiley . We cant understand why we couldnt see it originally, cache blindness at its best Thanks for bringing us here Tftc
During a short stay in Whyalla we went to look around via some caches. We ended up out on this trail. Yeah right... a micro.... Thankfully it didn't involve a long search. TFTC fishingmad.
WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 8 - Whyalla Day. I spent the day in the Whyalla area caching to the north and the west. There are plenty of caches around town and I did some including a Lab set along the fore shore. I enjoyed a great walk along the circular jetty. Most of my caching was along the Iron Knob Highway doing more of the trail caches along that part of the road. I did heaps back in 2017 and managed another chunk today. Hot out in the sun, but cool in the shade. I am now getting behind in my logging, so hopefully it will not get much worse. I managed to find a few caches that were DNFd back in 2017, so I am happy about that. From here my day was caching along the highway for as many of these PT caches as I could find, even some I failed on previous attempts. They were all very good GZs and only one was not as expected. Not quite part of the trail. I noted the DNFs and went over for a look. About to give up, I spied the blasted little sucker on the ground. Returned a little higher. Thanks for the cache fishingmad46527.11 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & Space Shuttle A#186**Albida**
Took off to the North West a bit with Purrfect Di to avoid the rains back home.
Turned out this worked quite well as we only had a couple of showers for the whole weekend and saw some great scenery and found the odd cache or two!
Still following the train but in 4wd comfort not bike!!
Many thanks to fishingmad for placing and maintaining this cache on our SA geo-map
---
Travelling around - searching, spotting and signing cache logs using some or all of the resources of GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife), Whereyougo, Garmin Montana 750i, Montana 680t, Etrex 35, Samsung S21u, Samsung S9, with Geocaching App, c:Geo, or Geooh Go, and Android Auto and other maps... or often with just a guyess or plain old dumb luck
Plenty of that luck stuff actually !!!
*All the online logs are composed and published with GSAK of course.*
---
Beware! Caching is a very hazardous activity!
Look out for sand, mud, snakes, surprise cliffs, roos, wombats, things falling from trees, bulldust, and floods, and sharp rocks in your tyres
try not to get tetanus from rusty mint tins and don't fall off your ladder...
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- and do watch out for germs and bugs !!! . [xx(]
Make Travel Bugs the Only bugs you share and pass on
Keep your distance - cache the countryside
Really fantastic of all those placing quality caches out and about around the country areas,
in sensible safe places especially! - it keeps our game safe, fun, and interesting
Thanks so much for reading all this extra addition to the log word count! There's a challenge somewhere out there, apparently! You win a virtual smiley for the effort and getting to the end of the log Maybe if I worked out where I could do it and go back to normal logs again !

After arriving in Whyalla with iluvtrekking on a wet and gusty morning we headed out for some caching after setting up in the caravan park. Quick find thanks fishing mad.
Another cache found during our 2022 South Australia Adventure using Geocaching as our guide.
We decided to have another go at the TFT trail and some others along the way, as there are some new caches since our last trip up this road.
Thanks fishingmad, we had a great time but, there are some caches we will have to come back for another time

What an epic journey we have had, just returned home from the holiday of a life time, we managed to catch up with PP2 for some caching at times, oh the memories and laughter!! Now it's time to catch up with the logging, thank you to every CO who has placed caches for us to find along the way TFTC
Leaving the Eyre Peninsula & heading home to WA. It's been fun. TFTC fishingmad
While visiting brother in law in Whyalla on the way to a wedding in Port Lincoln decided to clear up a few unfinished trails . Most caches found in good condition for their age

The Non Wangaratta Event Tour 2021!
Covid has postponed the Mega in Victoria until January but leave had been granted for AnyMules to attend with me and Bushfire. So Anymules and I went on a tour to Eyre Peninsular and mid north South Australia instead whilst Bushfire joined us in spirit only as covid meant he couldn't come here either. Not needing anything for my yearly goals I hoped I didn't add too many to the DNFs [B)]
Day 3: Exploring around the outskirts of Whyalla.
Surprisingly I found the cache in the first place I felt!
Only one of the three goals from last year achieved. So once again trying and fill my calendar with multi-caches and complete loop 11 again this year. [^] For my third goal I will try and get my DNF numbers from over fifty to single digits. That should keep me busy again this year! [:o)]
***Thanks fishingmad for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. ***

Unable to find this one. Had a look around to see if it had fallen off, but no luck!
Goal to pick up approx 40. Quite the marathon with muggle husband. This will be a generic post. A couple I couldn’t get lids off or were too wet or no logs. Unfortunately I wasn’t prepared. Was a last minute decision. Thank you for taking the time & placing them. Tftc
Full time nomads since 2014. Still tootling around the country trying to avoid Covid hotspots.
Back in SA for harvest work. Heading to Port Pirie but 4 days ahead of schedule so a quick detour to Whyalla was in order. There sure is a lot of puzzles here! Glad we had done the solving before arriving in town. Rain overnight meant there was some slip sliding happening as we tackled numerous off road tracks and climbs today. Good Fun in the Geo Cruiser [:o)]
Replaced the logsheet whilst here.

It has been a long time since I found a cache. So I decided to continue my search for ancient wonders of the world narrowing my unfounded caches to just a handful. A nice simple hide on what I’m sure is a fantastic bike ride. Maybe you’ll beat the train next time. TFTC!
Today we were heading down to Crowell but had a few things to do in town first and then I wanted to get the last few in the FTF series close to Whyalla.
We then headed to Cowell collected caches along the way.
We loved Cowell especially the oysters and spit roast at the pub.

Away for a week on some R 'n' R from the shop and to recover from an exhausting 10th Birthday celebration for Geostuff. We headed out early to beat the heat and targeted High FP caches and any others in between. A quick find here. TFTC
Found on hevwalker and our Whyalla holiday.....Davidwazza joined us for a fun day of caching..... with clear skies and warm weather we set off with the aim to do some of the FTF power trail. Our plan was to get as many as possible in the day. My aim was to beat my previous record of 106 in a day.....yes...smashed it thanks to my friends and our quick finds. TFTC
In Whyalla with scramping on a mini getaway holiday...
Today Davidwazza joined us as we set about finding all the caches in the FTF PT series and any others that got in our way
We were heading back to Whyalla after completing the trail and stopped to grab a few more along the way...
This one was a little trickier than we thought it was going to be...found in the end after a Doh!! moment

Found on a short camping and caching trip north from Adelaide with FeatherWaite.
We slowly made our way up to near Lake Gairdner on the first day, picking up some selected traditional, letterbox and multi caches along the way. We then went across to Hiltaba where we travelled around part of the property, visiting Hiltaba Lookout and Mount St Mungo to find some more caches, including a couple of FTFs, before heading down to near the Gawler Ranges National Park to camp. Then it was off to Whyalla where we targeted a few multis and traditional caches before returning to Adelaide the following day.
Unlike our trip to the south east a fortnight ago, where we were pretty well rained out, we enjoyed reasonable weather with clear skies for most of the time; the only exception being a bit of rain overnight in the Gawler Ranges area.
Most of the caches were found in good condition, although we did have to replace a couple of containers and logbooks.
Thanks fishingmad for the cache.

Found during a caching trip to Hiltaba, the Gawler Ranges and Whyalla with e.gregory1 for a few days. On Day 1 we traveled to Port Augusta and Iron Knob then camped out for the night near Lake Gairdner. On Day 2 we arrived at Hiltaba with the main objective to tackle the caches on Mark Bonin Peak 'The Lookout' and Mt St Mungo before traveling through the Gawler Ranges. On Day 3 we drove to Whyalla then camped out nearby for the night. Day 4 saw us return back to Adelaide, picking out a few selected caches along the way. Targeting a range of cache types (Traditionals, Puzzles, Earthcaches, Multicaches, and Letterboxes), a multiple of cache attributes, and a wide variety of Difficulty/Terrain combinations resulted in an entertaining few days with cool weather and great scenery. Thanks for the cache fishingmad!
Day 301 (Thursday 25th) of our trip. Caching along the way. In Whyalla today. A total of 27 for the day and 5803 for the trip. TFTC
This weekend, [@jesswrigley](http://coord.info/PRNW59T) and I headed to Point Lowly and Whyalla to scuba dive with the cuttlefish, who annually migrate there over the winter months to breed. The cuttlefish were plentiful, with the largest groups that I had seen from several prior visits there. Whyalla was a good little city, but unfortunately due to COVID-19, a number of steelworks and mine tours had been cancelled in the current times.
Our final day in Whyalla, and so we decided to do some local sightseeing/geocaching around Whyalla's old centre of town. This also involved a drive up a local hill. We then visited a few multi-caches around the area, including Whyalla's airport, and on its outskirts where there were some obvious 4WD and MTB tracks around the place. Our final adventure was a 4WD trip up Mount Laura, of which we had some nice views of the quarry below/nearby. We then detoured to back home via Iron Knob, where again the town was rather quiet, and we couldn't see many views of the nearby mine. It was then time to head home to Adelaide, driving back through Port Augusta.
I was looking forward in seeing the MTB tracks around Whyalla, but yeah, not much around here but track. We ended up making this find reasonably quickly, which was surprising given this geocache's difficulty rating. Sometimes the low difficulty caches taking a long time to find, and conversely, sometimes you get lucky the other way around.. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks fishingmad for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

Last cache for the day before heading back our camp at Fitzgerald Bay. We were a bit hesitant at the D of 4.0,and we couldn't find it 4 years ago either - but you would not believe it - after literally 10 seconds, the cache was located and a great hide it was at that! You have to be lucky sometimes and after a few finds up our sleeves, we just have to be lucky once in a while
Thanks fishingmad

Another quick an easy to find fav ride...
Spending a few days in Whyalla and found a few cache, or 300!
Had managed to solve all the puzzles before coming over too.
Of the nearly 300 found on the trip over and back from Adelaide, 95% were found within 50km of Whyalla Central, with approx a dozen dnfs also. Amongst all the finds was my 17000th find.
Also managed a lot of 'unloved' finds too.
What is it with Whyalla and mint tins? lol
TNLNSL
Thanks

Day 5 of the Perth to Adelaide trip where we started in Whyalla and ended in Adelaide.
Today was about finding as many caches as possible and starting / warming up to the larger power trails that bought us over here.
We completed the FTF series and the Letterbox caches.
During the morning we found the majority of the days caches, some highly favourited first up also.
Anyway the day has time limitations to it as we were hosting an event that started at 6pm and as it were we made it there at 5.59pm so early however the crowd of people there before us was rather pleasing.
It was great to see so much energy around Geocaching at the event the Adelaide teams really know how to impress and greet the visitors with a beer, thanks Freddo!
fishingmad I found your cache My Favourite Rides 6 - Follow That Train 2 thanks for placing this hide for myself and others to find.

Day 5 of Barnzy and Cravo’s trip from Perth to Adelaide.
Today we travelled from Whyalla to Adelaide via a number of country towns.
We started bright and early just before sunrise to pickup a couple of caches North of Whyalla that had some high favourite points which had tickled our fancy.
We then moved our attention to the FTF power trail, which started just out of Whyalla and took us all the way to Iron Knob. Found a good variety of difficulty and terrain combinations along the trail, with some interesting hiding spots. There were a couple of DNFs and caches that took a while to find which stretched out the time taken to complete the series.
We eventually made our way to Iron Knob and picked up the couple of caches around town which were quite nice in a very small mining town.
We were pushing the time factor quite hard, so skipped a fair few caches, but had to stop in at Port Germain to grab the aptly names Port Germain cache, which filled in a spot on the Jasmer grid, and its where I rolled my ankle running back to the car which made things a bit difficult for the rest of the day.
The other main target for the day was the Postman Pat Letterbox Hybrid Series, which were great quick finds of nicely sized containers.
We left the LBH trail and made our way to quickly check into the accomodation and made our way to our event in Lights Square “Sandgropers in the City”, which we made it to exactly one minute before it started, but a good sized crowd was already waiting to greet us, which was really nice as it was at last minute we had the event published.
It was great to finally put some faces to names we’ve only seen in logs, in particular the SA legend Freddo and TeamAstro. It was very interesting learning of the large scale model of the solar system, of which we had found one of the caches on the Nullarbor on our way over.
After bidding farewell to the event attendees we grabbed a bite of food and walked around the CBD caching, with mixed results.

4/55 for today - my best day so far.
Whyalla to Iron Knob through to Renmark. Stopping whenever I felt like it, wherever I felt like it, if there was a cache nearby anyway.
I drove past a lot but didn't have time to get them all!
I didn't stop for a lot of these caches but enough to give me a good head start for the day.
Thanks

Since moving from New Zealand I have been enjoying the area, exploring and finding caches.
So far I’ve knocked off 4 of the states. VIC, SA, NSW and A.C.T
No two areas are the same here and almost every place I go is stunning. The beauty of caching is that it takes you to so many places you would never usually find.
Thank you to all the cachers out there for hiding and maintaining their caches. Especially to those who put so much effort into creating unique and fun hides.
The caches I’ve found in Australia so far have for the most part all been in great condition. Keep up the good work.

Found it with TICE [Hiltsu, J&T, kapeka & laalaa]
We had fun with caching few weeks here in Australia ( South Australia and Northern Territory ). Lots of geocaches and many sort of them too. We saw awesome places, weather was good all the time and people were friendly and polite. Caches were pretty similar like in our home country. Of course there were some exeptions. Nice and huge country!
Greetings from Finland!

Team ICE on a two week geocaching trip in Australia. Our main target was the Red Centre Experience at Alice Springs but of course we did some caching in other places too. We drove from Adelaide to Alice Springs and then back. We saw lots of interesting and beutiful places like opal mines at Coober Pedy, Ayers Rock and Kata Tjuta. Our rental travelled almost 6500km on gravel and tarmac roads. The weather was great, only on last day we got some rain.
All the caches logged as Team Ice, T-ice or Tice with kapeka, laalaa and Hiltsu. We had a great trip!
Today our journey continued from Port Augusta to Whyalla and back. Some trail caches and others logged on the way.

Our Spring Geocaching trip go this year to Australia...yes you read right, in Finland is spring now.
We visit in Australia (Adelaide, Murray Bridge, Port Augusta, Whyalla, Coober Pedy, Uluru, Alice Springs, Port Vincent and other place which are on the way those places) on April 05.-20.
We see many beautiful place where we visit and enjoy every cache what we found, so humble thanks every cache owner that you hiding this cache!
We (kapeka, laalaa, J&T. and Hiltsu) use common nickname Team ICE, T-ICE or TICE that we saves space in the logbook.
Thanks For To Cache!

This was the second day spent picking up more caches along this power trail between Iron Knob and Whyalla. We found most of them with just a few misses for various reasons. Finding this cache was very satisfying. First off we checked the obvious (of course) and when nothing was found we noted the difficulty rating. Also realised the co-ords were a bit further away, so fine tuned the GPS and started again. This lead to a lovely find on a tricky cache that we were not expecting in this environment. It deserves a favourite point from us. We enjoyed finding these caches and were very happy to pick up some more unloved caches. Thank you to fishingmad for placing this cache.
This has disappeared in a power trail and with the coords and hint I thought the obvious. Was checking to see if a needs maintenance was required with previous dnf when I realised something was different. Started looking again and after 20 minutes made the find. That slows down the 3 hour burst on the ftf power trail. Tftc favourite awarded.
Finally! This cash has elueded me for a long time attempted this 4 times and on the 5th time i was lucky enough to find this thanks to fishingmad for a little insight after speaking to him at the Ode to Bunya event gathering on to the where abouts of this cache. TFTC!
Not so quick find on this one, but did find it in the end. Log book is now full. Had to abbreviate names to fit it in.
Great hide! Didn't get far on your race tho. Found with tweety2 certainly got us thinking outside the square. TFTC
The Empire, Wozzle68, Snaphappy and myself set out from Whyalla this morning, heading for Iron Knob. Working in the Ore/Mining industry, this was a much anticipated destination for me today. We signed the logs as Team Vic, and had a fantastic day of comradery, fellowship, laughs, great caching, and simply lots of fun. We stopped for photo's, enjoyed the sights along the way, and saw lots of trains. My thanks to the CO's for this trail, on a road I probably wasnt likely to travel if it wasn't for caching. Cheers and many thanks,
Found with Sully1, Snaphappy and The Empire, it was a very enjoyable road trip with lots of laughs all the way. This series is the main reason for our visit to this area as team Vic thanks for the cache and the contribution to Geocaching.
Checked on this one as it had a maintenance required log, I was pretty sure it would still be there and it was. I checked the log sheet and there is still some room on the back so I left it. This isn't meant to be easy so don't think you will just park and grab on this one.
From the previous logs it seems the CO should check that the cache is still there.
Catching up with late logs.
After six days caching on the Yorke peninsula with Alansee and Micaparamedic we parted company and headed across to the Eyre to try our luck at the power trails over here and as many other local caches as time permitted.
This one came up on the screen so we turned sharply left and went for a drive rather than a ride to number 6. We searched what we thought would be the obvious spot with no luck. We then took note of the difficulty rating and your recent and then changed our search pattern and not too long after Mark came up with the very well concealed little blighter.
Thanks again for the cache, another favourite from us.

Yesterday we found a few down the road and like yesterday a bit of time after work before the sun sets we decided on a few closer to town, unlike the previous cache found this one in the first place we looked TFTC
Out on a ride with the lad (The Scarlet Manuka) checking on a few of my caches, we rode passed this one and I could see it clearly from the track. The problem with this type of hide is that cache creep can happen easily. That was definitely the case for this one, it was about 1.5m from where I had hidden it. This had made it a lot easier to find, so I have put it back where I had originally left it. That's not too bad seeing that this is the first time I have had to move it since I have hidden it.
I was still 'not racing trains' on my bike ride today
But finding caches was on the agenda
Here was a conundrum.
I had read the clue, but with only one likely hiding place, I couldn't find me a cache [:o]
Time for a bit of logic ....
If it ain't there then it must be somewhere, but where, hmmmm [rubs chin thoughtfully], there
TFTC, I'll give it a fave point [^]

Day 3 of our Whyalla trip
We left the caravan park at 8am as the geo wife had a huge list of caches to find .We cached non stop until 5.30pm and in that time we managed 100 finds and a few DNFs we found a variety of caches some were found quickly but others took awhile in the prickly bushes .
After our day of caching we meet up with Felix II and headed of to the footy club for a bite and drinks .

Team FYVS (funkymonkeyzone, vistra, slieschke and myself) put ourselves on time frames for finding the caches today, we were on quite a tight time frame with many caches to find and an event to attend later that day. Our DNFS our either becasue the cache is no longer there or because we ran out of time looking.
Found on a day trip to Whyalla, went over this PT to catch up on those I missed in the past and pick up any additions to the trail. This one took a while almost gave up not exactly sure how I found it...pure luck, magnetic it may be very tricky. TFTC
Today, we picked up a few caches around town, that we had previously missed.
This was clever hide, which took us a while to find.
Very well done, a favourite point from us.
Thanks for the hunt today, fishingmad.

After a Great weekend doing the Googs Track with good friends we were heading into Whyalla to have Tea.
