What an amazing looking tree, the stories it could tell.Today I left home reasonably early, with my bike on the ute, to meet up with Chezle and OZGrumpy in Riverton. We left my ute in Riverton, threw my bike on Chezles chariot and headed to Clare.A big day on our bikes riding both The Riesling Trail and The Rattler Trail to find caches while enjoying some country fresh air, a bit of sunshine, get some exercise and find a couple of DNFs of mine from a previous visit. All up a fun day, even if Im going to be a bit saddle sore tomorrow TFTC Frozen FeetKeep smiling
I dont recall exactly but it must be about 4 months ago at an event when OZGrumpy, Jlly and I had a chat about riding the Reisling and Rattler Trails for caches.Today is the day and as the weather gods would have it, its going to be a 35deg day Cache quickly found and log stamped TFTC
Thanks Frozen Feet for placing this cache and for the ongoing maintenance. Find #10679 on 2/11/2024 at 11:32AMA plan was hatched to ride along the Riesling Trail and collect a few caches. A delightful day in the company of Cheezel and Jolly riding along and signing logs. This is a special place, very enjoyable. We also collected some others that were nearby or along the way.
Out caching with tessa_jade for international geocaching day & to collect some fuel for the cosmic quest. The RT seemed to be the easiest option, as I had done some of it before that determined our start point. With dark quickly approaching we set a target of 5 caches. Our last targeted cache and it was a quick find nestled in an incredible tree with a fascinating history, but alas we may have left our run to late - darkness is setting in and we still have to make it back to our car. TFTC Frozen Feet!
Out caching for international geocaching day with martini.989. An hour to spare before darkness hit, so we dropped in and started the RT here. A stunning tree with a fascinating history, TFTC Frozen Feet!
Another walk along part of the Riesling Trail this morning grabbing any caches as we passed by.We replaced the very wet log with a clean sheet and ziplock bag here. John Horrocks was quite a young but unfortunately short lived adventurerMany thanks for the hide Frozen Feet
I was in Clare for a few days primarily to finally complete the Riesling Trail. I'd done some by walking but this trip was to clean it up.Who knew it was that hilly on the trail (I do now). Took me about 5 hours on a hot day before I gave up and went back to the caravan park for a rest.I finished what I set out to do later in the afternoon with a bit of walking. This one is soaked.TFTC
Found on the Riesling Trail, maybe missing a top lid, was all very wet and unable to sign.TFTC
What an interesting story. Good to have a cache here to make us stop and read the information.
We are off on a trip to the Birdsville Races and then across to Queensland - the plan is for about 6 weeks of travel - all going well.
Week 1 we have travelled from Portland to Farrell's Flat near Clare.
Today the weather was a little better so we took the bikes to Auburn and rode to Penwortham for a very nice lunch and then back to Auburn - about 30km all up.
We really enjoyed most of this series of caches - not too close together and generally in easy to get to spots from the bike tracks. Only 1 DNF for the day
Our last for the day and time to turn around.
Thanks for contributing to our holiday Frozen Feet

Parked vehicle and trailer at Sevenhill Oval. Made my way to Auburn on the mobility scooter and grabbed many caches along the way, as well as taking in the interesting views. TFTC

A return visit to Clare was planned for the long weekend with the JAMS crew plus tallbikestan to find a lot of the caches that we didn't get to on our last visit along with the Rattler, Riesling and NE trails as well as the Mid North Channel Country trail. [^]
We had three very full days with perfect weather for caching, lots of bike riding, lots of walking and lots of driving along dirt tracks. We were lucky it had not recently been wet as some of the roads we drove on would not have been passable if wet. Loved the scenery at this time of year with everything looking very green as well as the bright yellow of the canola crops.
A fun weekend of caching, lots of caches found and lots of cool places visited.
Thanks for the cache Frozen Feet.

A big long weekend with the JAMS Crew (JJ52, allister w(me), mogni, Sir Spectre and tallbikestan). We road from Riverton to Stanley Flat on day 1. Then more riding near Spalding on day 2. Then finished the weekend with finding caches around the area in the car. TFTC
glad we had electric bikes for this trail.
The JAMS team ( JJ52,Allister w, Mogni, and sir_spectre minus mitchell&hound ) but Tallbikestan was with us instead and we where out for there usually monthly caching adventure. This time it was over the october long weekend instead of the usual day trip. The taget this time was Drop into the Light a long ladder cache on the way to clare and then to clear the Rattler trail, Riesling Trail, Ne Trail saturday on the bikes and then sunday do the Mid North Channel Country bike trail. Monday on the return home was to get Peter's view a 2001 cache. Of course there was many, many other's found on route to the various target for the weekend, somewhere around 260 found by the team. It could have been more but we were not going at a flat out pace, just steady and getting a blow out on the bike 1.6 km's from the end of the Mid North Channel Country bike trail didn't help. I didn't see any snakes this trip but allister did, he saw 5. The caches this trip where written in as JAMS, i forgot the stamps. Also 1 cache was placed by the JAMS team this trip. Out of all the bike tracks i preferred the Rattler /Riesling trail. I like riding through the very rich ( after all the recent rains ) fields of yellow flowers.

The JAMS crew went on an October long weekend adventure back to Clare. We brought Tallbikestan along as we were targetting the bike tracks and he is the best rider amongst us. Allister W and sir_spectre we the other main riders, with JJ52 and I the support crew and walkers. A huge weekend of fun and adventure was had by all, until I made SS sick with my cold....oops.
Thanks to all those who have kept not just the bike tracks but all the other caches alive for us to find.
All caches signed as JAMS.
Thanks to Frozen Feet from mogni

Hired an ebike by myself for the day to zip along the trail. Very lucky to get a beautiful sunny winters day. Tftc
Parked up at Sevenhill and made our way along the trail down to water vale for lunch finding all the caches along the way, beautiful trail and quite easy to ride along dodgy the muggles, all but one cache found that we stopped at.
Off to Clare for an overnight trip mainly focusing on getting the bikes out for a spin and hitting the rail trails for some adventure and indulging in the local wine culture, whilst finding some caches along the way. A lovely weekend away dodging the weather. Total of 91 finds for the 2 days.

What an amazing piece of history! Shame we can't get close to it but very cool. Tftc
In all our travels we would not have even thought to travel to this location.

A lovely, sunny afternoon caching along the Riesling Trail.
We found this cache quickly, extracted and signed the log before the muggles came through on their bikes.

Mr Horrocks has been busy here... and apparently was a tenant at the graveyard we visited too
A lovely day for a cache or two... who am I kidding, every day is a good day for a cache!
And to top it off some excellent walking company in Mrs Froghoppin to show me the local sights.
Always enjoy a riesling, and today was no exception! Almost all the caches were where we expected them. One was hiding just a bit too well... but I'll be back for that one
Sunshine, flowers, bugs and birdlife all distracted us on our walk - and of course we found a nice cemetery to investigate along the way too. Didn't blink... yet
Thanks for putting these out there Frozen Feet

All the Geocaches are located and logged using some or all of the resources of GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife), Garmin Montana 750i, Montana 680t, Etrex 35, Samsung S20+, Samsung S9, with Geocaching App, c:Geo, or Geooh Go, and Android Auto and other maps... or often with just plain old dumb luck!
---
Please do stay safe when caching.
Lookout for mud, snakes, surprise cliffs, wild goats, wombats, bulldust, and lightning,
try not to get tetanus from rusty mint tins... but especially lookout for bugs. [xx(]
Make sure Travel Bugs are the only bugs you share and pass on
We really appreciate all those placing quality caches out and about especially away from the city crowds,
it keeps our game safe, fun, and interesting

After scoring a FTF at Koolunga headed to Clare to get some more done of the railtrail caches. Managed to finish the N.E.series but at sunset was still 13 short of finishing the RT series.
Thanks to Frozen Feet for putting out this cache for me to find

If the cache is where I think it is then it's inaccessible without a special tool which unfortunately I didn't have with me.
This weekend, jesswrigley and I headed to the Clare Valley for a bit of wine tasting and cycling the Riesling Trail. We were treated to great sunny weather, and nice to have been visiting the wine region.
Today, jesswrigley and I started the day by heading north around Clare to visit a few miscellaneous locations and old churches. We then made our way to Polish Hill River, and then on to Mintaro where we participated in the famous maze. After visiting *Taylors Wines* for a wine and chocolate tasting, we had a final session cycling along the Riesling Trail north from Watervale. We then made the return home, briefly stopping at Tarlee, Stockport, and Hamley Bridge.
We think this geocache is missing. I tried searching the obvious place hinted, and extracting quite a few small pebbles, but alas just rocks in that hollow, and no cache. Consequently, the CO may want to review this location for a possible replacement. Thanks anyway Frozen Feet for the cache placement. Cool and nice history though.

A quick find today, no top on cache & lying in the open . Replaced in the obvious place TFTC
Container found down bank minus lid Replaced where should be Placed upside down so hopefully will stay dry TFTC
We found it but we don't have a pencil. So we left a polished nut. It needs a lid to keep the ants out.
Wow, we never knew about Mr Horrocks' story! It's such an exciting one.
Living in a hollow gum tree to start life in the colony seems to have been reasonably common in the mid-1800s. Hard to imagine these days ...
Once again, thanks for sharing this history!

Out for a short walk today after a couple of days hitting the power trails. Far more pleasant and relaxing without the go go go of the last few days.
Our first time on the Riesling trail and very impressed with what we have seen.
Cache found with ease. Logbook full so replaced. Container missing lid but new logbook in plastic bag so should do.
Tftc Frozen Feet.

One of 4 RT caches that I did this morning.
Thanks for the history of this tree.

A cool fine Spring day for a drive around Auburn with Tassie Trekkers.
Not many muggles around today, and mostly good quick finds.
Thanks for the cache Frozen Feet,

Today we explored Penwortham and surrounds using Geocaching as a guide and picking up a few caches on the way with Roostaman and this was one of them. We enjoyed the trip around the back roads. An easy find at GZ.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

We were out for a walk along this section of the Riesling Trail on a beautiful Autumn Anzac Day. Horrocks Tree has some amazing history. One wonders how long John Horrocks for his supplies and gear to be shipped from England - several months at least. It suppose it wouldn't have been as cramped as the Herbig Family tree! TNLNSL TFTC Frozen Feet!
Found with the.bakers (alisia) on our girls caching weekend. SL and admired the tree. This cache will need a new log soon. We are enjoying walking parts of the trail. Thanks again Frozen Feet.
And the girls are off! Myself and my bestie Sharyn (family4p) are off on a girls weekend away to the Clare Valley for some geocaching, no husbands and no kids!! Woo Hoo!!
Second day of our caching adventure and we decided to walk some of the RT while we are here! So we picked a few spots to hop off and on and this was in one of our groups! We were looking around for the Horrocks Tree but all we noticed were random trees. Took us some time then we realised (oops not so quick on the uptake) that the pic on the board actually matched a tree out in the paddock lol. So we found the Horrocks Tree and the cache! Log signed and replaced! Thankyou for placing the cache!

Mrs iluvtrekking and I dropped our geo-men off in Riverton to undertake the 44 klm cycle ride back to Clare. They spent 9 hours to complete the trail with a couple of dnf's along the way but marvelled at the scenery and had an awesome day. Thanks Frozen Feet
After dropping the GeoHubbies off in Richmond they peddled off into the morning mist. 9 hours and 40ks later they emerged in Clare sore but triumphant. Thanks to all concerned in placing this epic series of caches.
Found this cache on 19/3 having a fun biking/wine tasting day with team crumble. Seems like my online post disappeared. Logged to complete
Spent the weekend staying at Leasingham with fellow cachers Meg_Norti2 and Baking Tray Pancakes. Rode from Leasingham to Clare and back. Some caches were found, along with some wineries, bakeries and sore butts! We all had fun though and will no doubt be back to find the rest. Amazing old tree and story that goes with it, thanks
Found on a gorgeous walk on the reisling trail between penwortham and water vale today. Lucky find as we did not have any mobile coverage and hence no caching info. Thank you for bringing us to such a lovely place.
Another great find while in the area on holiday.
Thanks for setting up this cache. SL
Really enjoyed the Rail Trail!

BCBB found with thanks !! Sorry for the generic logs due to large numbers of finds!
apologizing in advance for the generic logs. was in clare for the weekend to attend the events (my first events since becoming a geocacher) and I am now back logging. Many thanks for the caches was a really good weekend
Found It!
So he left England, spent several months on a boat, arrived on the other side of the world and then lived in a tree. Things must have been hard going back then...
Also, interesting to note the plaque just down the track which marks the location the C. J. Dennis was conceived. Which begs the question of how do they know?
