Our last day in the South Island, and once again it's a drizzly one.We had plenty of time before needing to catch the ferry in Picton, so stopped in Havelock to do one more ad lab series, and to pick up a few more trads as well. Thanks for putting this here
The last day in the South Island for rattll and I. We started in Pelorus Bridge this morning, on a wet day with low visibility. We stopped off in Havelock and Blenheim, before catching the ferry at Picton. Tonight, we're in Wellington to catch up with family. In Havelock, the rain was starting to ease as we did a circuit of the adlab point. On the way out to the mole, to get the final point, I paused to find this cache. Started off looking in the wrong spot, but soon readjusted focus to make the find. Log frail, but, with the rain stopped, was able to sign successfully. Returned as found. Tftc!
This cache:Quick find at gz, fun place for a cache, tftc!Today:I was supposed to ride the Heaphy track this labour weekend. But due to extreme downpours in the forecast (150+ mm) I decided that would not be much fun if even possible. So a new plan was needed for my precious private days off. Marlborough was the place with the best forecast, although Saturday was going to be very bad all over the top of the south. After picking some leftover caches along the SH6 on Friday night and sleeping over in Canvastown, I drove to Havelock on Saturday morning and decided to do a local round of caching, dedpite the heavy rains. Geared up with rain jacket, rain pants and gumboots I walked through town and found most caches there. One multi pointed me a bit uphill, where I saw a sign pointing towards a waterfall. Hmm, shall I? If you ever want to see an impressive waterfall, now is the time! Yes, let's do it! I was certainly not dissapointed in the power of nature! After a few hours, my gear started to leak, so back to the RV to get dry clothes and think about the next steps. Meanwhile, the road I just came in on was closed due to flooding. I felt very lucky, cause otherwise my whole plan would be underwater. The road south to Blenheim was also flooding but still driveable, so I decided to go to Blenheim now, while I still could. In Blenheim I did a city tour with many ad labs and a few caches. This time my rain protection was an umbrella. The river here was flooded too, so no 'walk in the park'. Enough to be found in the city, so all good. All in all a great and adventurous day of caching, much better then expected.P.S. Because of the heavy rains, I often just quickly jotted down my initials 'DK' where there was room, to not expose the cache and log paper to the rain too much.
Armed with jandals and a chilly bin, a couple of Aussies headed across the ditch for a 3-week tiki tour, exploring the beauty of New Zealand.DAY 6: A ferry across to the South Island (Picton), then Nelson via Queen Charlotte Drive.Wandering past doing the AdLab, so stopped here for a quick find by GT37.Thanks for showing us this special place by placing this cache, bumandworker tn koe~~
Found it, a bit tricky. Was here a few years ago and couldn't find it but were successful this time. Thanks for the cache.
Previous hint was spot on, enjoying the finds, seagulls squawking, and smell of mud and the sea, thanks ,
I'm down from Auckland for a couple of weeks and spent a couple of nights in Havelock. Went out this evening to complete the local adventure lab and walked out to the point and back, finding this cache along the way, although it was quickly getting dark and I needed my phone light to find the cache! TFTC!
Day off work and Mrs Rubbishparty visiting for a few days so off to Queen Charlotte Drive and ending up in Havelock. Completing the Ad Lab and walking right past this cache. Quick find. Thanks
On the way to the South mole - Memorial light we take the beautiful pathway and found this cache.Thx for the cache Siamkiwi
Having a break and took the opportunity to bag a cache or two!! Cache all good, TFTC
Birds brought my trusty caching companion out here! Lovely spot! Cache all fine - found with Piwaka54.
Loved this! A fun spot for a cache and a great view of the bird colonies. We saw a huge flock of oystercatchers milling about!TFTC!
As others have done before us, we peered into the obvious, before realising it was not quite so obvious. But an easy find nonetheless. TFTC!
What a cute object to hide a cache near!
I was looked in the wrong place initially...but Jan soon located it!

On a road trip with Supernannny and Net61 to Nelson exploring this part of the country. Quick find here in an obvious location. Nice and moody here on a gray overcast day. TFTC
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are currently parked up at the Waterlea Racecourse in Blenheim … decided we’d go for a bit of a drive through to Havelock … thought we’d have a look at some of the history here & do the Ad Lab & some caches … this one easily found & completed … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #4,291 for us!
Yay! TFTC! I came all the way from Vancouver BC Canada to find this cache Thanks for being part of the adventure!
We decided on walking this track to get a view of the marina from a different angle. Saw a number of birds on the walk. I always wonder what happens to all the dinghy. How it ended up over here.
Thanks for the cache

Thank for this box.
Thank for this box.
Tried digging in the big hole but all I found was a bag of calcified dog turds. Ew. Not in the obvious spot but a good hide nonetheless

Yep the old seaworthiness is munted, but great spot for a cache. Thanks b&w, all in good order.
Lovely walkway, spent a lovely couple of hours wandering along the path, stopping for caches and watching the birds. TFTC.
The final day of our South Island trip, and we are catching the ferry to Wellington tonight. We started the day with a puzzle FTF in Motueka, and on our way north from Nelson we collected the last cache we needed for the whole Pokai Whenua GeoTour. Feeling great! But the day is not over, and we still have a list of solved puzzles we hope to collect on our way to Picton.
We stopped to find this trad after walking out to the point for the Havelock Wander Ad Lab. Loved the hide of this one, and an appropriate title. Adding a Favourite point.

Time to gain some 'Reach the Peak' elevation. Havelock is the target. Jumped aboard Bumblebee and buzzed out here, parked up at a workmates place and started walking. This was the third stop, and on the way got one Ad Lab point. Easy find near the estuary with all its estuary sights, sounds and SMELLS.
A beautiful evening stroll. Great to be able to combine with the adventure lab. Thanks for placing the cache
Spending a few days in town as my teenage sons wanted to hang out with friends over the school holidays, so I came along to supervise the learner driver. As they spent nearly all their time out on a boat I had some time to myself.
I had lunch with my friend and then as she was in the middle of varnishing her boat I left her to it and decided to walk along the mole as she had recommended it as a nice walk. It certainly helped that it looked nice and flat so easy on the knees. Headed all the way to the end to take some photos. Weather was nice for a walk, not too hot or cold.
Once I read the cache name it was a quick find. Thanks for the cache.

Heading on a geo adventure with BCD to the top of the South Island...Picton, Blenheim, Havelock and Nelson.
Day 5
Arrived in Havelock in the pouring, cold rain and blustery wind. Checked in and chilled out, or should I say warmed up, until the weather cleared considerably.
Sun is now trying to come out (massive fail) so time for a walk and to explore around a bit.
It has stopped raining finally and can now even see a bit of blue sky. Lots of mozzies out and the water around is very brown. Quick find here before carrying on down to the end TFTC

Final day of three weeks winter motorhoming in the upper half of the South Island. We found a few caches in Havelock this morning including the Havelock Wander Adventure Lab, before driving on to Picton and the afternoon ferry sailing. A superb South Island break comes to an end!
Found this one reasonably quickly on our morning walk. #4253. TFTC.

With HorsegirlNZ being at a friend’s in Rai Valley today I had the opportunity to explore some more trails in the Havelock area.
I’m not sure this one will be water-tight now. I wonder what stories it might tell off previous journeys.
Still, it makes for a good cache hiding place.
Dropped off a TB brought back from The Old Ghost Road last month.
Thanks bumandworker

Hurray, the last of 50 in my birthday week! Excellent milestone, celebrated geo style!
Love the bird life along so many different birds...the cache was found without problems..signed and replaced thanks
Amazing variety and quantity of bird life here. Thanks for bringing us here bumandworker
Apologies to the CO. Found quite a while ago, but then I stopped caching for a while due to the pandemic and this was still left as a draft log. This was a find on my way to Golden Bay for a holiday.TFTC +FP
With fine weather forecast for today we decided to head over the hill to Havelock and collect up a bundle of caches in the area.
Andy headed up the hill to grab a couple up there while I wandered around town and collected up the easier caches.
Got to this GZ and had a look. No cache. Checked previous logs. A lot of DNF's. Well maybe they missed it so out with the torch and had another look. Nope nothing there so must be missing. Sent CO a message to see if he wanted it replaced then wandered off to the end of the track and sorted out another answer for the lab cache. Once that was done, the CO had replied to my message and I came back to GZ armed with new container and logbook. These were some that the CO had actually dropped off to us a couple of weeks ago. I think I signed the logbook - hope I did. tftc

After a thorough search by the two of us we agreed with those that came before, that it must be missing. A lovely place to go for a walk.
Didn't find this one. I couldn't search methodically because of many muggles on the path.
Many thanks neverthelass to the owner for leading us to this wonderful walkway!

JDScout and I are on a campervan holiday from Christchurch to Collingwood to Havelock and back home to Christchurch. Geocaching is on my agenda. We both like biking and walking too. Thanks bumandworker for placing this geocache it is find 8114 for me.
Sadly there was no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. New Zealand will have another large event in 2020 in Auckland.
======== NZ Mega 2020 ========
Planning for the NZ Mega 2020 event is well underway. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, 23 to 26 October 2020. Thanks for hiding this geocache.

Didn't have long in Havelock today as our ferry was booked for later, so we decided the walk along the spit would be a good way to spend it.
Despite being a beautiful Sunday morning, no one was on the path, we very nearly gave up on this one as the GPS and phone took us directly to the name of the cache and after giving it a really good look, nothing found, Tim then looked further afield and found it.

I had decided that I wanted to make 50 finds every month which I have been doing for quite a while now, but this month we had not had any big caching weekends so we were going to be about ten short for my self imposed goal. I had a look at the map and there were two new caches that would qualify for the fast to find challenge we are working on, and some around Havelock that would easily meet my target.
I was having a lovely time wandering along here with one side being so tranquil and on the other side it was a hive of industry. The men working on the mussel barge were very busy and they obviously enjoy each others company by the amount of laughter booming across the water.
Not in the first or even the second place I looked but it was third time lucky.
Thank you bumandworker for placing this cache

A quick easy find with 'gone fishing' while on holiday in the area. A clever name and a great find!
Called the Seagnoid for some assistance with Nigel navigator this morning. And Hey SNAP we are both thinking of going to Havelock. The Seagnoid for a maintenance run and me just to break out of camp. Snag the Seagnoid and headed out.
Just picked up the FTF so now continue along this peninsular to bag a few more.
Another quick snag and tag here. Cheers
