A beautiful weekend free so I decided to tramp out to Mitre Flats Hut for the night. A quick find with the hint, although the poor sign needs some love. TFTC
Thanks skindo for placing this cache
It was nice and dry despite a rip in the plastic. Plenty of room for another 50 people to sign it

Spent the day on a return trip to Mitre Flats in the company of ianL1#, Cartertonic and Yeetrees. Great company to enjoy the beautiful bush with and lots of laughs along the way.

Found during a group trip to the cache at Mitre Flats Hut Refer to that log for more details Thanks skindo
Found on 6/2/20 on the first day of 4 day Northern Crossing tramp. Cache is in good order. TFTC
Grabbed on the way out from the hut... now back to the car (it's very windy!!) TFTC
Again got this one on the way out. Easy find, coordinates spot on and the 2 sticks sitting parallel to each other give the exact location away. Dry inside. Was a nice walk. Now the 2.5km easy walk along the farm back to the car...
Got this cache on the way to Mitre Flats hut with me 2 boys. Pity about the sign but the cache is in good order.
Thanks for the cache

I went for a walk up the Barra track today. Not much of the sign left, but the cache is A Okay. Nice n easy going up to this point. TFTC
We were amused by the sign itself - is this the edge of private land or something? Quick find thanks to the excellent hint. No working pen with us so unable to sign the log.
Find #2773. Stayed overnight in the hut yesterday and climbed the mountain today with Hurricane Luke. Found this while heading out. Not too hard to locate so quickly signed and on our way. SL TFTC
Well its back in the wairarapa again for the next couple of days with this being the start of the caches leading to the 2 @@@ Barra for the code for the final of the A to Z series and what a brilliant day to walk this track. We arrived at the roadend and were walking by nine, and it was a nice warm up for what was to come.
Cache quickly found and log signed and then it was off to the next one.
Thanks for the smiley and the placement.
Looks like we walk a similar speed to gsel.

#3025. I decided to have another day in the Wairarapa and in particular wanted to get another A-Z cache and a few of the 2:2 series, plus pick up a few solved puzzles. Got over here a bit too late to get a big total today but still a chance to see yet more of the Wairarapa I have not been to previously. Started the cache raid at Masterton. Drove down this rural road and parked at the Barra carpark. Then started the trek into this series of caches. It was a very strong NW head wind today and had to retrieve my hat a few times. Took me about 50 minutes to get here, rather a slow trip in compared to the times in agcnz log, who seems to walk twice as fast as me. Nice quick find here. Signed the log and replaced the cache as found. Thanks for hiding it here.
Picked a great day for a foray up the Barra. An area of my namesake ranges that I had not previously visited.
Clearly not a lot of visitors in this more remote area.
I read Bert's story and thought that on a day like today retiring to a hut in the remote part of Kaituna would have a certain appeal.
Cache was a straightforward find. All in order; log signed and cache safely re-hidden, just as found.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
Taken me awhile to get to this part of the Tararuas, but I was well rewarded by this visit.
The Turtle strikes again!

On our way up to Mitre Flats, lovely track alongside the river, now starting the climb. TFTC
Found on a drizzly Sunday hike.come out to the river plenty of times to swim but ever been up this far. TFTC
Possum and a co-tramper decided to knock of the caches along the Barra track today while the rest of gourp of Wednesday Wilderness Wanders race off ahead of us - the acceleratti hoping to reach the hut. This first cache did not take too long to find althougth the search area was rather vague. TFTC skindo.
#5280. Good to arrive at the entrance proper to the Forest Park. Found with Yeetrees. TNLNSL. TFTC.
Nice quick run along.........ok, nice long slow walk from the car park to this cache - bit of light rain on the way but not too bad.

Farmer Joe didn't have his cattle under control and ended up chasing 4 beasts up the track. All good once I was over the fence, quick find of the cache. TFTC

Nice to be getting closer to our destination (the road end) after our 3 day tramp. Quick find - TFTC
A long walk before we got to this cache, but an interesting one. Enjoyed the views of the river en route, and wondered if this long dry summer has effected the water flow. Looks like lovely clear water with some great swimming holes.
Cache was a quick find in the first place we looked. TFTC.

#5096. Good views of the river on the walk in (looked very inviting), plus an excellent blackberry patch (which delayed us somewhat). The first cache was a while in coming (I guess up until this point it is private land). Going has been pretty good so far (though the the trip along the farm track was a bit more up and down than expected). TFTC.
Found on walk out from Mitre Hut after coming from Atiwhakatu the day before.
Took a bit of searching.
Very hot walk today.
TFTC, TNLN
Note hut does NOT now have any gas!.

First search on our intended tramp in to Mitre Flats. Not knowing much about the track, the 8.2km up a river valley seemed like a good day's outing. However, the track, especially between "Hobbit's House" and "A Hole in a Tree" makes East Holdsworth seem easy and we turned back with sore knees after only 5km.
A nice gentle cache find for starters though. TFTC - a most un-Skindo-like place.

Another easy find with the use of the clue. They were to get harder as I would soon find out! TFTC
At the beginning of a four-day-trip in the Tararuas 5 geocaches on the first 4km of the track. That is a good start! TFTC
Came here on a day's caching in the Wairarapa to clean up some of the caches that have been beckoning to me for a while. I didn't know if I would have time to fit in this series but fortunately I made good time with other caches so was able to do so. I did surprisingly well considering that others have had problems - it took me an hour 10 minutes to find all 6 caches, then a further 50 minutes to walk back to the car. Distance covered from my tracklog was 7.8km. This cache was a quick find thanks to a good hint. Signed log, TFTC!
Yippee!! A FTF!!
I found this wee treasure easily on a not at all nice day. However, I have come prepared and am keeping relatively dry.
