Thankfully didnt drain the brain too much for this one Quick find and put up out of drain under a spor Tftc
Fifth and last day of the road trip to Coober Pedy. After the late arrival last night we had quite a few left on the Whyalla list so set the alarm for earlier than I'd hoped in an effort to complete the list. And that's what we did, They were mostly traditionals with just a few puzzles, one of which was located in a particularly "interesting" location. After leaving Whyalla it was almost straight home, but did have a couple of very fresh caches in Owen that would need finding. That done, managed to drop the Rat at home five minutes before the time that was aimed for. Then on my way home managed to find a couple of newish traditionals to top off what's been a great caching trip which was my first, but hopefully not last, venture towards the centre of this vast and varied land.Got to GZ and nothing seemed to want to present itself as cache worthy. Did a bit more looking, then some reading and realised that cache was not in very good condition. Eventually the Rat found the zip bag held in a small tree by a rock. Added our stamps and left as found. Which is definitely not as placed. This cache is really in need of some TLC from the CO.Last cache found in Whyalla this trip, now to start the drive back to Adelaide. Thanks to IlludiumPU36 for adding to the playing field with this cache.Smilie #15174.*This log composed and published using GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife).*
Day 4 of our 5 day trip to Coober Pedy.Today found us traveling to and around Whyalla. This is a fun trip for SA Sewer Rats. This was the last find in Whyalla for us today. This took longer than it should have.We located the cache stamped the log book. TFTC
A neat puzzle with a quick solve. Today as we make our way into Whyalla for the day, we stopped to sign the log here. It looks like this one has seen better days. Now just a clip lock bag and logbook which was all dry. Thanks IlludiumPU36Domsky
Have spent the last two nights camped at the Melrose Showgrounds now its time to head west, tonights destination as yet unknown, but towards our home in SW of WA.Luckily I read some precious logs as it made finding the cache easier, well it was in the ground so after signing duties Mr dimor placed in a treeTFTC and a puzzle that for once didnt drain the brain
TFTC IlludiumPU36 your cache Brain Drain that we found today. Our second day on Whyalla, camped at the Football club. Went out for a couple of hours this morning on a caching run, before returning to gather supplies and prepare to move on tomorrow. An enjoyable morning.Found logbook on the ground without a container. We did not have a spare container but we placed logbook and pencil in a plastic bag and jammed it tightly in the tree. Find Count: 17672
Meeting my geosister H423L in Whyalla to do some caching Worked this one out while grabbing the lab Then found TFTC
I sat and watched Hellyonfire with this one out. Log book on the ground without a container unfortunately. A weekend in Whyalla with Hellyonfire enjoying the weather and the caching. TFTC
I've had this cache solved for some time, so while passing through Whyalla we thought we'd try and turn it into a smiley. It didn't take long to notice the relevance of the cache name to GZ, so we picked around for a short while until I set my sights a bit higher and there it was. The cache contents are sodden - could do with some maintenance (maybe a new rubber 'o' ring for the seal would help?) Found with rumpuslabs, tftc
With the annual June Geocaching Long weekend now finished at Kyancutta it was time to head towards home via a longish route that had some caches, along with team Mattycat this was one of them, after a fulll day out and about it was time to head for home this was a previous DNF and decided a look by torchlight in the early hours and a opportunity to stretch the legs, this time we found the cache not sure how we missed it last time but thats how it goes sometimes

After settling into the Weeroona Football Club grounds we headed out to find a few caches & 2AL
It was good to tour the town like this, surprised at how little traffic was on the roads
Puzzle solve before leaving home
Thankyou to the CO's for placing these caches.

Day 2 in Whyalla has seen me just driving around the place to get a feel for the area and grabbing the odd cache at the same time.
I had solved the puzzle in preparation for the trip here. A quick find. The log is wet but still signable. TNLN. TFTC.

On the hunt with Chrispy89 and Martini.989, today was finally the day to cross this one off the list. TFTC.
Attempt 3 and finally success. Out caching with Tweety2 & Chrispy89. I had to coordinates correct but it took Tweety2 to spot the cache. TFTC!
Full time nomads since 2013. Still tootling around the country trying to avoid Covid hotspots.
Back in SA for harvest work. Heading to Port Pirie but 4 days ahead of schedule so a quick detour to Whyalla was in order. Headed out early today with lunch hoping to convert some to Not altogether successful, but still managed 39finds from 41 hunts.

Have replaced the cache container and log. Also removed a lot of litter from the area.
Found it, puzzle was great although the log needs replacing it's a bit warn x
Returning from an extended weekend break down at Port Lincoln. Throughout the trip I have been specifically targeting old caches, caches with lots of favourite points, solved mysteries and any other interesting caches that I find myself near.
I missed this cache on the way down to Port Lincoln so I made sure I grabbed it on the way back home to Adelaide. A fun puzzle to solve.
Logbook is in pretty bad shape so unable to sign. I have provided photo for evidence of the find.
Thanks for the cache IlludiumPU36.

This weekend, I headed to Whyalla to catch up with a few other Geocachers and attempt some of the trails there. On Saturday, we targeted the FTF power trail from Whyalla to Iron Knob, and then spent the evening and the subsequent morning driving some of Whyalla's back tracks. On Sunday, I visited Cowleds Landing and back north, only to get severely bogged in one of Whyalla's clay pans. I then returned home via the August series.
Today, I travelled from Adelaide to Whyalla, making a few brief stops along the way. I needed to arrive at Port Augusta for the geocaching event, and after having dinner, I made the slow approach to Whyalla finding the geocaching trails along the old road, including *Port Augusta's First PT* series, arriving rather late.
A puzzle that I soon and quickly recognised what to do, and so had this solution a year or so ago. Tonight after arriving in Whyalla, I thought I would finish my journey with this last cache find. I spent a few minutes looking around before finding it. The cache container was in good shape, but the logbook was quite wet/damp, and I ended up retreating to my car to unrolling it and signing it. This may need a CO visit soon to inspect, or otherwise hopefully it just drys out on its own. Thanks IlludiumPU36 for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

We made a decision to take a two week break and head to the Eyre Peninsula. We were keen to return to Coffin Bay and also to explore some less travelled areas.
We had three nights based in Cowell. One of the highlights there was a drive along the 4WD fire track along the top of the Drake Range.
Then we headed to Port Lincoln for five nights. We have been out to Memory Cove on one day and to Coffin Bay NP on another. We have explored the the town, seen stromatolites, and found a number of great eateries. And some special caches too.
On the way down the east coast we grabbed puzzles where we could. We would argue this is a D1 puzzle

Thankfully didn't drain the brain too much. Cache took a few minutes to locate though.
Out with Jack and Sebastbat for some June Long Weekend Plus fun of our own - as this year's event had been thwarted by a naughty virus! Headed out, umm, this way and that way... plenty of little icons on the map to be converted to smilies
A little more Whyalla, then homeward bound. We'll be back Whyalla - lots we didn't have time for!
We did think the Whyalla map needs some more large caches. Maybe we'll have to bring some back
thanks for the cache IlludiumPU36

All the best caches are hidden at a safe social distance
(161m apart, though preferably not vertical distancing !!! )
Caching never stops with some serious help from soap, water, and especially alcohol...
( Good for cache cleanliness and coping with puzzles ! )
Once cacher per 4sqm is easily achieved
Space is good. Fresh air is good. Exercise is good. The great views are very good.
#washyourhands - we don't know where the cache has been!
Gloves are handy - but only if you change them between finds !
#washyourhandsagain please
Support the regions! Hide a cache in the Barossa and another
#keepwashingyourhandsagainandagain
[xx(] If you stay "Covidsafe" you may just avoid a whole bunch of other nasty germs this flu season too
Hand hygiene and keeping safe distances can reduce your chance of common cold, flu, pneumonia, gastro, and a whole bunch of other nasties, as well as that corona thing
Ease your restrictions carefully. But get out and keep fit!
Enjoy caching. It's good for your physical and mental health

A puzzle solved in preparation for our SA visit. When we pulled up at go we both sighed hoping it wasn’t going to be in the rocks. Thankfully it wasn’t and a quick find ensued.
Solved ages ago...
Stopped by today for a quickish find, even though I found it about 6m from my calculated GZ.
Spending a few days in Whyalla and found a few cache, or 300!
Had managed to solve all the puzzles before coming over too.
Of the nearly 300 found on the trip over and back from Adelaide, 95% were found within 50km of Whyalla Central, with only a dozen dnfs also. Amongst all the finds was my 17000th find.
Also managed a lot of 'unloved' finds too.
What is it with Whyalla and mint tins? lol
TNLNSL
Thanks

A plan was hatched to make the most of my time based in Port Augusta. This weekend the plan was to visit all the LGA areas on Eyre Peninsula to work towards the South Australian LGA Challenge. Dr Owl joined me in Port Augusta on Thursday night and we headed off early Friday morning for a wonderful adventure. Plenty of laughs, great scenery and some interesting stories discovered along the way. Today involved heading up the east coast of the peninsula to Pt Augusta.
It was easy enough to solve this cache but I didn't enter the correct numbers into GSAK which, along with a pedantic GPS doing the navigating and my lack of local knowledge meant ultra confusion trying to get ot the cache but we got there in the end.
Thanks for the puzzle and cache IlludiumPU35.

The last day of Owl and Sushilord's excellent Eyre adventure and the last 3 district councils were on the target list. This time they were determined to be disciplined and stick to Owl's physiotherapy-mandated rest stops. Heading out of Whyalla on the last leg of the trip, they decided to stop for a puzzle. Owl had solved a stack of them in preparation for a past and present trip, so it was nice to actually find one of them. A bit tricky in the dark, but Sushilord eventually made the find.
this puzzle is about the level i find puzzles enjoyable. quick solve and found on route to the caravan park.
Found with e.gregory1 during a caching foray around Whyalla for the weekend after solving and stockpiling the solutions ready for the occasion. Thanks for the puzzle and cache IlludiumPU36!
Found with Featherwaite on a visit to Whyalla, primarily to try and find some solved puzzle caches. Thanks IlludiumPU36 for the puzzle and the cache.
A puzzle solution I’ve had for a while, but haven’t been over this way to make a find, until today. A relatively easy park and grab at GZ. Container and contents all in good condition.

Found it with TICE [Hiltsu, J&T, kapeka & laalaa]
We had fun with caching few weeks here in Australia ( South Australia and Northern Territory ). Lots of geocaches and many sort of them too. We saw awesome places, weather was good all the time and people were friendly and polite. Caches were pretty similar like in our home country. Of course there were some exeptions. Nice and huge country!

Tice (Team Ice: laalaa, J&T., Hiltsu and kapeka) in Australia. Sun was shining and we had fun. Today we drove from Port Augusta to Wyalla, but not the most direct route. Now we were rolling around Whyalla.
Thanks for the cache.

Team ICE on a two week geocaching trip in Australia. Our main target was the Red Centre Experience at Alice Springs but of course we did some caching in other places too. We drove from Adelaide to Alice Springs and then back. We saw lots of interesting and beutiful places like opal mines at Coober Pedy, Ayers Rock and Kata Tjuta. Our rental travelled almost 6500km on gravel and tarmac roads. The weather was great, only on last day we got some rain.
All the caches logged as Team Ice, T-ice or Tice with kapeka, laalaa and Hiltsu. We had a great trip!
Today our journey continued from Port Augusta to Whyalla and back. Some trail caches and others logged on the way.

Hi there IlludiumPU36.
We found your cache **"Brain Drain"** at 10:45:00 AM today. (This makes our find count 15826).
We cached around the Whyalla area today. On our trek we found a wide variety of container types. & ended up finding 5 caches with 0 DNF's.
Thanks for placing this cache here, without geocaching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places on our travels.
**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found the cache around 2m from where the GPS said we should be looking.
**Cache Condition:** The cache was soaked, we spent some time drying it out, but it still needs some "Owner TLC".
**Took:** Nothing.
**Left:** A Smiley Badge.
Thanks for the hunt today,
Regards
Ian & Penny.

This may be a simple puzzle but it is so easy to rush it and bugger it up... I've done it before [:o)] Solved it correctly and made the tricky find today at 12:10 on Sat 11 Mar 2017. Up from Adelaide visiting Whyalla and PA for the long weekend, why not take the opportunity to knock off some local caches whilst one's here The cache and contents are in great order besides the log being a wee bit moist. Let it dry then signed it [^] TFTC IlludiumPU36
GoodLook very, very badly wanted to attend a special event, so who was I to tell her she was going overboard with geocaching [?]
Instead we jumped into Harry on Friday for 2 days of adventure, accompanied by Laighside Legends, in Whyalla where fishingmad was holding an event on Saturday to christen his new boat..... 6km out in the gulf[^]
We had a blast and it was huge fun showing GoodLook around parts of Whyalla that she hadn't seen before I think her logs say it all!
Today was a day of 3 DNFs and 30 finds
Unless mentioned otherwise, please know that your cache and log book was in good condition.
Ask me why I cache with clever people.... because they can either solve puzzles I can't or they can find caches that I can't
Thankfully GoodLook did both here today [^] Saved me the drain on my already exhausted brain

A nice little puzzle that was quickly solved - There's one like this in Adelaide!
But finding the cache took a lot more effort! Eventually after a lot of wandering around GoodLook had a good look and spotted the cache!

I love a fun, quick and easy puzzle cache that I can do in the field.
Oh my, this took A LOT of searching! 3 sets of eyes and it still didn't seem to help. As we were discussing leaving I did a final walk around the area and looked from a different perspective and WOO HOO, I found the cache!!
The loud and lovely Locus Cache [:X], the very clever Laighside Legends and myself drove to Whyalla in Harry with the aim of this weekend being: to find a few caches, and attend the 5T boating/fishing & caching event.....AWESOME!! [^]
There was fun, laughter , silliness [:o)], tense moments, some creative driving (on road, off-road, dirt, sand, mud, water, tackling what could be described as a very steep and narrow bmx track...yep you heard me!) , breath holding , kindness [:X], tight time schedules, ladder climbing, feet getting wet, dolphins, a boat, fish, nanos, ammos, sistema of all sizes and a number of mint tins. Surprisingly few DNFs. And LOTS of other mad crazy conversations and adventures. Gotta love caching and all of the fun it can be!! [:o)] [^]

We soon had a set of plausible coordinates but in the absence of a coordinate checker, were were not over confident in case we had fallen for a red herring. Today we went to look for the cache. After a short hunt we found a the cache in a very good hide. Unfortunately the contents were very wet and the log book unusable. We cleaned things up as best we could and left the old log book in a new plastic bag (to contain the wet paper). We also left a temporary logbook in another plastic bad. Thanks for the puzzle and cache IlludiumPU36.
We found this cache on our Northern road trip, which was to celebrate my significant birthday. We saw some great places, met some wonderful people and slept through some 3 dog nights. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and finding caches made the trip more memorable – Thank you and ……Joy to the World!!
Day sixty eight of the WA road trip with BettyBoo3747.
A short stop over at Whyalla for the Cuttlefish!
Spent the morning up at Stony Point and cached our way back home.
We backed the snowmobile off the back of the Ranger, then noticed the attributed - bugger!
The puzzle was simple, but the find took us a fair bit longer.
Thanks, Robmc.

# 8380. We planned to come to Whyalla on our return trip specifically to swim with the cuttlefish and today was the day!!!! Rather cloudy and cold but after much discussion we finally donned our full suits and took the snorkels and fins and braved the water at Stony Point. It was worth every cold minute to see these wonderful creatures up close and personal. I definitely hope to do it again. After this experience it was on to caching....
Cute little puzzle. Solved last night and signed off on it today. I was a bit worried that we were going to walk away with a DNF even though we had a good idea of the kind of hide. Fortunately Rob found the nicely camouflaged container further afield than where I had been searching. Good to add a smilie here.
Thanks IlludiumPU36

Found the container partially buried in pine needles, so hooked it back up where it should be. Log is quite damp as he lid was not replaced properly. Will replace log when I get a chance.
Solved the puzzle headed out to look for cache doesnt seem to be anything here but rubbish
Catching up on some very late logs.
We headed out to Port Bonython for a day of sightseeing and of course caching, that finished finished the 31 days of August and as there was still some light left we were just random caching.
We wanted to do this one as we had spent a bit of time with micaparamedic and Alansee working on some of these local puzzles so it was not just the Whyalla brains you drained.
Fortunately the cache was a lot simpler to locate but the log was quite damp so we just added our initials.
Many thanks to IlludiumPU36 for the puzzle and the hide.

Another flying visit to Whyalla, checked out two of three puzzle caches I had solved some time ago and could not local the caches at the time due to failing light. Better luck this time with plenty of daylight. Thanks for the hide Illudium PU36.

[Blue]# 9656 Found on the SA leg of our S.K.I.D.R.O. adventure.[/Blue]
Today was more of the FTF trail, the August trail and others while at Whyalla for a few days.
Not many muggles around and not many cachers here lately either.
Most co-ords were good which made them quicker to find.
Thanks for the cache IlludiumPU36,

Camped at Whyalla, on our 2nd trip around Australia.
Decided to do the August power trail today, and picked a few others in the area.
After solving the nice quick puzzle, we found ourselves at GZ. A little apprehensive
due to the 2 DNF's , but after a careful scan of the area, we were delighted with a find.
Many thanks for the hunt today, IlludiumPU36.

Our 5th DNF today.
[red]We spent quite some time here at around 11:52:00 AM, but we couldn't locate the cache. Is it still there?

Some days your mojo is on song and the caches appear just as you would like them. This was one of those days.
Found on the second visit on the "I'm not Diving with the Great White Sharks trip". A great day weather wise and caching wise. Can't see why I missed it first time - perhaps it was in another dimension or, yup, the brain was drained!!
Thanks to IlludiumPU36 and clear skies from TeamAstro.

This find was part of a two day geocaching adventure to Whyalla and other interesting places. We found a total of 100 caches and this cache was part of our fantastic two days. We climbed sand hills, fought cactus bushes, climbed cliffs, searched hundreds of salt bushes, phoned some friends and met some new ones. Thanks for contributing to our fun! TFTC
Having a trip to Whyalla with Trail06 on our annual post Xmas run.
We started early Tursday and got back late on Friday.
We found the Whyalla caches very testing and we had a lot of dnf's. Not sure if it was the cache vandal or us.
Thanks to all who placed caches.

Took the oppurtunity on a quiet Sunday morning to find this one. An easy find to match the puzzle. Thanks IlludiumPU36
The biggest problem I had with this find was that I dropped part of the cache and then had trouble finding it!
Thanks IlludiumPU36.
Thanks IlludiumPU36.
Round and round I went with my Garmin in hand but could not find it, then I noticed the nearby high tension lines. I got my new Magellan and put the co-ords into it and it took me to within 1 metre straight away. The garmin was 3 metres out. My Garmin CSxGPSMap60 is a good GPS but hates power lines.
Clever little hide.
PS:I hate puzzle caches

Solved @ 1759. If only the wife was home to have the kids for me to go find it. A gold badge gone missing
Joint FTF with affy. I was cooking tea when this one came up and I knew I wouldn't be able to get it for a while, so I gave up on it. Then after tea when the geo-wife got home it was getting close to time to pick up the duaghter from ballet, so I thought I would take the long way to ballet. I arrived at GZ only a few seconds after affy, so we had a joint hunt. Both our GPS's had a bad case of the wanders, but eventually as it was getting very close to the end of the ballet lesson I stumbled accross it. After signing the log I took off and got to ballet on time, but they ebded up running 15minutes late anyway.
Being dark definately made it harder and doing it just before change of shift added another level of difficulty, with people walkig and riding past all the time, a couple of kind gentlemen even asked us if we were ok and what we were doin? A quick mumble about trying to find something and it was anoying us Blah Blah, soon had them on their way. TFTC and thankfully an easy puzzle.
