Back in Whyalla for a couple of days and out doing what we love. Quick find here Tftc
With the impossible target of 2000 caches before capital GeoBash & a somewhat more realistic one of 1500. I ducked out for the afternoon and started with the FITG trail before tea in Whyalla and then onto a few of the FTF series to finish the day. TFTC!
Second day to complete this great series. Loaded before we left WA.
Great view after a shirt walk up the hill. Tyftc

Found while picking up a few of the FTF PT series on a wet and drizzly day. All logs signed as Geopenta or GP. Cheers for placing this cache.

A bit more free time this afternoon so decided to tidy up a few that were missed this morning. TFTC.
Found while visiting Whyalla for a few days with Team Waldron and TeamAstro, with the aim of finding as many caches as possible in Whyalla and surrounds. Day 1 saw us travel up from Adelaide and tour the very scenic coastline around Port Bonython and Point Lowly. On Day 2 we headed out to the Fill In The Gaps (FITG) series, then to Iron Knob and back via the First To Find Power Trail (FTF PT) series. On Day 3 we cached in and around the City of Whyalla, and on Day 4 we made our way out to Whyalla Conservation Park before heading for home. Thanks for the cache fishingmad!
Another day of our celebrations of birthday week for the cats, Purrfect Di and Mattycat kept on birthday caching to see what we could unwrap in the way of iron triangle log books. Yours was one we found along the way, with the help of Jack. Good fun time for all and an insight into the impact of mint tins on the aussie steel industry [:o)] Most finds were straightforwad, some were a little obscure, and some were just rusting away!!! A good way to keep fit on a warm day.
So we hit some more of the f t f p t and that took a large chunk of the day! Glad to have that little bit of the map clear now. Some were easily found from the side track and others better from the main road, some were just a little buried, one had two caches with a recent throwdown right by the original! All were a bit of fun to add to our day. Another familiar CO name.
Sincere thanks to fishingmad for placing and maintaining this cache on our geo game map
[:o)]
We must note that we certainly do appreciate the way those mint tins age to blend in with the rusty outback earth!!! Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, plastic cracks and mint tins rust!
---
Searching around every day finding and signing using some or all of the resources of GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife), Whereyougo, Garmin Montana 750i, Montana 680t, Etrex 35, Samsung S20+, Samsung S9, with Geocaching App, c:Geo, or Geooh Go, and Android Auto and other maps... or often with just plain old dumb luck Quite a lot of that actually!!!
*Logs are composed and published using GSAK of course.*
---
Please do stay as safe as possible when caching.
Keep a lookout for bogs, snakes, surprise cliffs, boxing roos, wombats, bulldust, and floods,
try not to get tetanus from rusty mint tins and don't fall out of trees...
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- but especially lookout for bugs from alpha to omega !!! . [xx(]
Try to keep Travel Bugs as the only bugs you share and pass on
Now our borders are open - even more important to sanitise and safely distance!!!
Much appreciation of all those placing quality caches out and about around the countryside,
in sensible safe places especially! - it keeps our game safe, fun, and interesting
[^] [:o)] [^]
A great caching start to Twenty Twenty Too

TFTC. Day 2 of our Whyalla geocaching trip and we decided to tackle the FTF - PT series from Whyalla to Iron Knob.
Having previously completed the Iron Knob end of the trail, it was time to do the rest!
Unless already logged with a “note”, caches and logs were in good condition.
Happy caching and safe travels!

Goal to pick up approx 40. Quite the marathon with muggle husband. This will be a generic post. A couple I couldn’t get lids off or were too wet or no logs. Unfortunately I wasn’t prepared. Was a last minute decision. Thank you for taking the time & placing them. Tftc
Today we were heading down to Crowell but had a few things to do in town first and then I wanted to get the last few in the FTF series close to Whyalla.
We then headed to Cowell collected caches along the way.
We loved Cowell especially the oysters and spit roast at the pub.

This weekend, I headed to Whyalla to catch up with a few other Geocachers and attempt some of the trails there. On Saturday, we targeted the FTF power trail from Whyalla to Iron Knob, and then spent the evening and the subsequent morning driving some of Whyalla's back tracks. On Sunday, I visited Cowleds Landing and back north, only to get severely bogged in one of Whyalla's clay pans. I then returned home via the August series.
Today, I joined hevwalker and scramping with our goal to complete the FTF power trail. We got 75% through before taking a break for lunch in Iron Knob, and then completed the remaining geocaches, finishing in the early afternoon. We then visited the new Whyalla circular jetty, and then had dinner at the Eyre Hotel geocaching event. Finally, we headed out for a quick stop at Whyalla Conservation Park, and then headed around the tracks around the levee finding miscellaneous geocaches, all within a nice and balmy evening.
A quick find at this location. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks fishingmad for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

On hevwalker and our Whyalla holiday.....Davidwazza joined us for a fun day of caching..... with clear skies and warm weather we set off with the aim to do some of the FTF power trail. Our plan was to get as many as possible in the day. My aim was to beat my previous record of 106 in a day.....yes...smashed it thanks to my friends and our quick finds. TFTC
In Whyalla with scramping on a mini getaway holiday...
Today Davidwazza joined us as we set about finding all the caches in the FTF PT series and any others that got in our way
Most of the caches we located quickly and easily...I did say most...the rest took a minute or 2 more...
The day was warm and the sky was blue as we made our way to Iron Knob...

Back at Whyalla for a Caching / Ore Train photography trip, i still have unfinished business re: lots of caches yet to find and grabbing a few Ore trains when they arrive... Caching comes first naturally coz this beats waiting around for the trains It's a Win / Win situation [^]

Some quick finds on this series whilst heading back into Whyalla...
Spending a few days in Whyalla and found a few cache, or 300!
Had managed to solve all the puzzles before coming over too.
Of the nearly 300 found on the trip over and back from Adelaide, 95% were found within 50km of Whyalla Central, with approx a dozen dnfs also. Amongst all the finds was my 17000th find.
Also managed a lot of 'unloved' finds too.
What is it with Whyalla and mint tins? lol
TNLNSL
Thanks

Day 5 of the Perth to Adelaide trip where we started in Whyalla and ended in Adelaide.
Today was about finding as many caches as possible and starting / warming up to the larger power trails that bought us over here.
We completed the FTF series and the Letterbox caches.
During the morning we found the majority of the days caches, some highly favourited first up also.
Anyway the day has time limitations to it as we were hosting an event that started at 6pm and as it were we made it there at 5.59pm so early however the crowd of people there before us was rather pleasing.
It was great to see so much energy around Geocaching at the event the Adelaide teams really know how to impress and greet the visitors with a beer, thanks Freddo!
fishingmad I found your cache FTF PT-8: wombat33 thanks for placing this hide for myself and others to find.

Day 5 of Barnzy and Cravo’s trip from Perth to Adelaide.
Today we travelled from Whyalla to Adelaide via a number of country towns.
We started bright and early just before sunrise to pickup a couple of caches North of Whyalla that had some high favourite points which had tickled our fancy.
We then moved our attention to the FTF power trail, which started just out of Whyalla and took us all the way to Iron Knob. Found a good variety of difficulty and terrain combinations along the trail, with some interesting hiding spots. There were a couple of DNFs and caches that took a while to find which stretched out the time taken to complete the series.
We eventually made our way to Iron Knob and picked up the couple of caches around town which were quite nice in a very small mining town.
We were pushing the time factor quite hard, so skipped a fair few caches, but had to stop in at Port Germain to grab the aptly names Port Germain cache, which filled in a spot on the Jasmer grid, and its where I rolled my ankle running back to the car which made things a bit difficult for the rest of the day.
The other main target for the day was the Postman Pat Letterbox Hybrid Series, which were great quick finds of nicely sized containers.
We left the LBH trail and made our way to quickly check into the accomodation and made our way to our event in Lights Square “Sandgropers in the City”, which we made it to exactly one minute before it started, but a good sized crowd was already waiting to greet us, which was really nice as it was at last minute we had the event published.
It was great to finally put some faces to names we’ve only seen in logs, in particular the SA legend Freddo and TeamAstro. It was very interesting learning of the large scale model of the solar system, of which we had found one of the caches on the Nullarbor on our way over.
After bidding farewell to the event attendees we grabbed a bite of food and walked around the CBD caching, with mixed results.

found it on a trip to Whyalla over the Adelaide cup long weekend. quick find on the slow return home. I thought to make a dent on this power trail and stopped at number 50.
Today we were on the road from Port Augusta to Whyalla and we had planed to do this trail. But it was to much for one day so we did only half of the trail today and tomorrow we will try to do the other half.
We saw that some of the caches were found already more than half a year ago so we expected to have a lot of not founds. But most of the caches we found! It is a very nice trail to do and we say thank you for hiding the caches to all of the cache owners. We enjoyed it and had fun today.
Greetings from team De Kivits, Netherlands.

Staying in town for a few nights and there's a power trail. Thank you, Whyalla. I only got a few done this time. I'll have to come back next time for the rest. Mostly quick finds. Thanks all involved.
Today, we decide to do the FTF PT series, we found 28 and had 4 DNF'S.
Thanks for bringing us here

Back out caching again today with CAD - grabbing a few more caches on the FTF Power Trail ... T4TC:)
On the road to Iron Knob, and finding as many of the FTF PT series as I can, an interesting mix of hides and some I didn't find. A most enjoyable day out ,many thanks to all the hiders for the placements.
This was the second day spent picking up more caches along this power trail between Iron Knob and Whyalla. We found most of them with just a few misses for various reasons. We enjoyed finding these caches and were very happy to pick up some more unloved caches. Thank you to fishingmad for placing this cache.
Finally made it Fishingmad.
Nice hide. SL TFTC fishingmad.
Logsheet is in 3 pieces and damp (very delicate to sign)

While having a forced stay in Whyalla with the wife in hospital it is a perfect opportunity to do some caching.

From the time that the FTF Power Trail began to be published, we had it on our "To Do" list. As the number of caches grew, our planning to visit Whyalla became more serious. Finally the stars were in alingment. Yesterday we started near Whyalla and went to Iron Knob and back, finding many in the series and only not-finding one. Today our first task was to attempt to find the remaining caches in the series. Thank you to the geocachers of Whyalla for planning, publishing and maintaining the series.
This cache took a few minutes of hunting before being in hand. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks for the cache Bunya.

A big day, starting in Whyalla, heading to Iron Knob and back again. Over 100 caches found for the day, plenty of laughs too! We started a bit before 9am and were finished a little after 5pm. Plenty of big trucks, trains and scratches on my legs along the way! We'd seen the knob, now it was back home (the motel) to Whyalla! Thanks to all the hiders for their effort.

I've travelled to Whyalla from Perth to cache. I stopped to log this find during a few hours of caching on my first full day here. Thanks for hiding this cache fishingmad.
Catching up on some very late logs.
Caching our way from Whyalla to Port Pirie today picking up any that are close to the hi way.
But first we had to collect the last three FTF's we missed yesterday.
We came to here after not being able to find our way to Stone Henge.
This worked out well as there are no double lines on the track under the power lines and we could park where we wanted.
We have had the pleasure of meeting wonbat33 on our last visit and have also enjoyed finding some of his hides.
A nice easy find and sign so the day is good again.
Thanks fishingmad for the cache.

2 grey nomads from Vic touring through S A and picking up caches. we did this trail last year but missed a few so have come back to do them and also the new ones. we missed a few this time mainly because of muggle rail workers nearby but I am sure we will return to get them some other time. thank you to all the dedicated cachers from Whyalla for all the work in placeing and maintaining the caches . thanks
Love the cachers name and after reading the description I think Aussie Mark and I will have to come back and do some wombat33 caches. They sound like our sort of ideal caches. Thanks for introducing wombat33 to us fishingmad and thanks for the cache.
My final cache for the day on my bike ride around the hills to the nor-west of towne

Touring Australia having left Perth in late February we are leisurely touring South Australia after having attended Oz Mega.
Today we found the weather very warm for tackling this 'power trail' the hides were considerably more difficult than we had anticipated and it took us all day to complete most of the series.
We can only thank our cache mates iluvtrekking as we (FelixII) were both completely over it by 1pm.
The combination of heat/tiredness/DNF's and frustration were mounting.but whilst that may sound negative we actually don't like standard power trails so hmm seems we just are too hard to please really Im thinking. [:o)]
In the end I think if we had tackled this trail over 2 days we would have found it more enjoyable. There was a nice variety of hides and camo's spread amongst the many.

Today was more of the FTF trail, the August trail and others while at Whyalla for a few days.
Not many muggles around and not many cachers here lately either.
Most co-ords were good which made them quicker to find.
Thanks for the cache & your part of the series fishingmad,

Today was more of the FTF trail, the August trail and others while at Whyalla for a few days.
Not many muggles around and not many cachers here lately either.
Most co-ords were good which made them quicker to find.

Today, we decided to finish the FTF PT series. We found 60 and had 3 DNF's.
To make it easier for parking, we did the caches on the left hand side of the road
going out of Whyalla, and again on the return trip.
Once again, we found a wide variety of cache types and hides, some a little tricky.
Thanks for placing all these caches for us & others to find, fishingmad.

We set out to attempt the first few of the FTF PT series but soon found we weren't having much luck as prickly bush and various other things meant many weren't being found. This was one of the few we did find before we decided to call it a day and try some town caches.
