Wow, I cant quite believe Ive finally done it ! For my Port Hacking qualification cache Ill use GC4YC2C Sutherland Shire Cachers Challenge which I logged on 1 July 3018. Today I found a cache in Port Headland GC7BW85 Panhole Point.I signed the log of Port to Port challenge on 10 Dec 2012 just a couple of days before we left Sydney to travel Australia in our caravan, with geocat Levin and geodog Peppa coming along for the ride. Its been a fun adventure and caching has guided us to some amazing places. Tftc
I didn't quite qualify for this one as I had found Port Hedland caches years back, but never one in Port Hacking. So while in the area today I stopped in at the nearby one just around the corner on a beautiful winter's day. Stunning scenery and the water is so blue! Not too long to find this one and sign the log. Great to be able to complete this challenge. My qualifying caches are:26/7/2024 [Goldfinger2013 ](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC44ADJ_goldfinger2013)14/6/2018 [Port Hedland Sculpture 1](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC4C7VC_port-hedland-sculpture-1)Thanks for the cache, and note the spelling of Port Hedland - there is no "a"!
Finally managing to clean up some previously found but not completed challenge caches. Originally found this challenge cache back on 29 October 2021 and finally qualified for the challenge on 5 May 2024. Out and about today and took the opportunity to check some of my caches out. This one is still in place but nature has made it harder to find.
A recent last moment visit to Port Hedland meant we now qualified for this one.
It's been a little while since we did the others along here. A nice sunny day with little wind. Closing in on GZ we followed what we thought was a geo trail and over shot. A quick call to the CO and a dig through some leave litter and the hide was soon found in an easier spot. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC

Today I walked along the shore of Port Hacking with The Bebes and PelDroedGwin to find and sign this cache. Now all I need to do is to cross over to the other side of this big wide continent to complete the challenge requirement. TFTC wazza9

One last trip to Sydney to target a couple of challenge caches that require a long drive. This being the first.
Met up with EverestHigh to enjoy a very lovely walk to GZ.
Here’s hoping I’ll qualify for this one soon.

Went with Everest High and the Bebes to get this one in preparation for our trip to Port Headland to complete the challenge.
Well I can't see me ever getting to Port Headland but you never know.
Just in case I'm writing this note as today I found a cache in Port Hacking, an area I spent my teenage holidays. This way I won't have to hunt through hundreds of cache finds to see if I have a suitable one, as things do get archived and disappear off the map.
GC44ADJ - Goldfinger2013
Just for the record I've been to these ports around Australia - Adelaide, Arthur, Augusta, Botany, Campbell, Douglas, Fairy, Jackson, Kembla, Macquarie and Melbourne and I've drunk Port Wine.

Thank you wazza9 for your company on the walk today.

This is one of 2 remaining challenges in The Shire left for me to achieve. Although I'm not likely to complete it for some time, I thought I'd sign it and get around to visiting WA one day.
A nice spot by the water if you wander down the steps. Signed with geodog Zelda. She loved the water.

Signed in anticipation of a return visit to WA. Cache was found in good condition. Unfortunately, we do not qualify at this time. Thanks for the challenge wazza9.
We searched a while but couldn't find it, as it was missing.
The owner helped us with a new cache and we signed the log book.
We found on 27/6/2020 - GC4C7VC - Port Hedland Sculpture 1
and on 21/4/2021 - GC7FHP6 - Nana's Past Time

We do so love a Challenge Cache, and so while out on an afternoon geocaching in the area with the CO and Nana Nel we simply had to come and search for this one. We soon found the cache and signed the log book although we don’t yet qualify for a Found It log - but we hope to do so on a future visit to Western Australia . In the meantime thanks so much for the cache and greetings from Zimbabwe
Lucky enough to get to Port Hedland for work a few times and now to Port Hackney also for work.
I love the Pilbara so have visited most caches in Port Hedland.

We love challenge caches and this one has been on our radar for some time, just waiting for us to have the opportunity to get to Port Hedland. This we did after Easter this year and we have finally been able to get to Port Hacking to be able to sign the cache and claim the find. The cache itself was not too difficult to find after exercising some geo logic and all was in good condition.
In Port Hedland we found various caches including Port Hedland Sculpture 1, on 22nd April, 2017.
In Port Hacking we found Outback Geocaching Immortals – A Challenge Cache, on 21st August, 2015.
Many thank go to wazza9 for issuing a challenge that we really enjoyed accepting and fulfilling.
This cache gets a favourite point from us and all our trackables on hand came to visit as well.

So last year we tried to find this one.
Here is a precis of our DNF log then.
*And earlier in 2016 we did a road trip across the Nullabor and then up the WA coast and back along the Gibb River rd before heading back down the middle to Adelaide.*
*And we made sure to log a cache in Port Headland when we spent the night there.*
*GC3TXED Team GO4IT – Take it easy – S 20 18.238 E 118 35.500 - found 30 May 2016.*
*Then last year in Port Hacking we found*
*GC4YA0B Outback Geocaching Immortals – A Challenge Cache - S 34° 04.268 E 151° 07.000 - found 19 December 2016.
*We headed for this one on 19 December. Quietly confident.*
And that's where it fell apart.
Epic fail.
Fast forward 5 1/2 months and Brad is back.
Since then the CO had given us some advice as to where we might look.
But even so I was back among the charcoal. And eventually I resorted to a PACO.
The issue was one of scale "a large rock" could be the 15 metre one I was searching near or it could be a 3 metre one. Both are large. Within a very short time to speaking with the CO I had the cache in hand.
Finally! Another nemesis gone. Not very pretty but found nevertheless.
Dropped off a couple of TBs and took one out.
Added our stamp to the logbook and replaced it all as found.
This challenge we were very keen to find is finally sorted
Phew!

After just having visited Port Hedland we now have a selection of caches from which we can choose to list as our qualifying one to be able to find and log this cache. We will put it on on our program sometime after we return home. Thanks for the challenge wazza9.
Arrived home from a trip late last night and checked the cache out early this morning.
All in place, Sure, there are strangler vines to trap you if you are not looking but no sign of charcoal near GZ so I have no idea where the last person was looking at this time.
Lets hope the next visitor has better luck.
Visiting a group of trackables.

This one has been on the target list for us since we first saw it in 2014 while visiting friends at Cronulla. We didn't qualify then. But it peaked our interest.
And earlier this year we did road trip across the Nullabor and then up the WA coast and back along the Gibb River rd before heading back down the middle to Adelaide.
And we made sure to log a cache in Port Headland when we spent the night there.

GC4YA0B Outback Geocaching Immortals – A Challenge Cache - S 34° 04.268 E 151° 07.000 - found today
and headed for this one. Quietly confident. After all that was 4 for 4 on my Sydney target caches for this trip and this was only a T2 so what could go wrong?
And that's where it all went to custard!
Long story short
- 45 minutes searching
- high and low
- water line to main path level
- T1.5 to T3.5
- rechecked the "obvious" spot a number of times but there had been a recent bonfire in there and there was a lot of piled up charcoaled wood. So I kept thinking that could not be the correct spot.
- messaged the CO (who kindly responded later when he was able to)
- GPSr and mobile both went flat
- strangled by innumerable vines.
Epic fail.
And then I had to get back to the car. Figuring I had come part way around a circle (of sorts) I tried to continue and close the loop. I found a road (a steep road) and then a side road, but not "my" side road.
Why not just look at a map on my phone? Or GPSr?
Did I not mention they were flat.
Eventually I did find the car. And began the rest of the drive back to Adelaide.
Unfinished business. We/I will be back. Thanks wazza9. It's still a cracker of a cache

Back home after a trip away. Visited trackables in my possession to add a few more miles and complete the trip around Australia for some.
I was advised by the last finder that the log was moist. I retrieved the container yesterday and dried the contents out in the sun. I decided that the type of container was not water tight and replaced it before returning the container to it's hiding place this morning.
The cache is in place and waiting for the next adventurous finder.

At long last I got back to Port Headland to find a cache to be meet the challenge of finding a cache at Port Headland and one in Port Hacking. On our recent holiday I made a point of visiting Port Headland just so I could find a cache or 2 there.

I would never have thought that when this cache was first published that I'd actually be able to qualify for a find on this one but here we are 31000km later with a find in Port Hedland and a find in Port Hacking.
Finding a cache in Port Hacking was the easy part, finding the cache in the industrial town of Port Hedland took a little more planning, but we were able to find these 2 caches.

As we ventured from the Southern Highlands to Lilli Pilli to do another Challenge cache we realised we could also claim this one. Absolutely thrilled.
We have travelled our beautiful country of Australia in many different configurations, mainly trying to pick up as many desert tracks that we can to get from east to west, and north to south. eg. Canning Stock route 2.5 times, Gary Junction road, Anne Beadell Highway, Connie Sue, Gunbarrell, Simpson Desert, Three corner Country, Outback QLD, Cape York, Tassie 3times, Victoria and many more and passing thru many of the PORTS that you mentioned. Caching has taken us to many out of the way places that we would never have gone to. We take our trusty Off road camper trailer and our Nissan Patrol Ute on all our adventures.
These two Ports are of significantly different places. Port Headland being a working Port and Port Hacking more of a leisure place.
You mention your Waymark at Hass Bluff west of Alice Springs, and we too were amazed at the use of pushbikes in this area.
Have not worked out how to put the links up (But will get a grandson to come and show us)
Our finds are shown here:
Port Headland WA GCmap2 -- Dumper 4 & Frogs -- "Koombana Lookout" (Archived) 20-8-2008
Port Hacking NSW GC4ya0b -- Wazza9 -- " Outback Geocaching Immortals" Challenge Cache.3-8-2015
There are no TBS left, and very little swaps.
It was amazing walking along the track and looking at all the steps going up to private places and the water was sparkling today.
Thanks Wazza9 for a fabulous idea and cache. Favourite point from us.

This was a 'must-do' cache on our list, and we spent the day caching around Port Hacking.
We have travelled around Australia twice - clockwise, and this time - anti-clockwise.
Along the way, we have been to some wonderful places, and seen some amazing things.
Thanks to geocaching, we have visited many more places, that we wouldn't have known about.
Port Headland is basically a mining port, also with a booming salt industry.
Whereas Port Hacking, is a lovely residential area.
We have done a few caches in Port Headland, but the one we have selected is:-
18/09/2013 GC4C7VC Port Headland Sculpture 1.
The cache we have selected for Port Hacking is:-
07/10/2014 GC4YA0B Outback Geocaching Immortals – A Challenge Cache.
We will edit our log, when we learn how to add a link.
Made our way to GZ, and searched the area for a while, before finally locating the cache.
Contents of cache are wet, but the log is dry. Took trackable, to move it on.
Many thanks for placing this cache, wazza9, for us and others to find.

I haven't gt a cache from port hedland itself, but I have a few along a fence just out of port hedland a bit. Will that qualify, so I can make a find.
While visiting with wazza9 and nana nel we got to talking about challenge caches so it did not take much prompting for us to complete Multi Million dollar cache so that we complete this challenge. We had done several caches around the Port Headland area back in 2010 so at least we could claim this one without travelling across the country.
Lilli Pilli point is a gracious and charming area unlike Port Headland. The first time we stopped in Port Headland it was to meet with NSW caching team Shifter Brains. The timing was perfect we wanted to meet up and from Port Headland we were heading east towards Marble Bar and Carrawine Gorge while Shifter Brains were heading south down the coast. We had a lovely time, short as it was, with them till we went in our different directions.

Thanks wazza9 for preparing this awesome challenge. Fav point allocated.

Given all the rain and washouts over the last week, today provided a chance to see how secure this cache is. No problems. Visited the trackables in hand and swaped a trackable.
Seeing I will not be going to Port Headland in the near future, I thouht I would visit the cache, while I was there I exchanged a trackable. Left a teaspoon from Townsville from my collection.
I am trying to work out how I can claim this cache, as I was present when the CO found this cache - 27/06/2011 WanAus 105 - Don Rhodes Museum Western Australia, Australia - in Port Headland, but I had was not a registered cacher then.
Guess that means I have to go back to Port Headland as I don't think the CO will give me any favours.

All OK and in place waiting for the next visitor. Time to allow trackables to move on. Took the 2 that were there and left 1 (Aussie Kangaroo Thong) for a holiday.
Just making a visit to visit and borrow some trackables for a road trip to Noosa for Christmas. There is still 1 there and others will be placed in the new year.
Found at 8:38 PM GAFF1. We were half expecting to see Marcus Vitruvius's name in the log book
Well this location certainly is a lot prettier than Port Hedland let me tell you. Port Hedland is quite an industrial town with nothing else much there. The sea is nowhere near as inviting as is it is in Port Hacking and the scenery here is just wonderful - those huge houses are quite impressive.
Thanks wazza9 - a good challenge which brought back some memories. We took the NSW coin which will be used as a prize at our Cape Paterson event in Victoria later in the month.

This was an interesting cache to get to. We had to unhitch the caravan and then just make our way along very faint tracks across sandy scrubby featureless ground. It was hot and we searched all over amongst rubbish and when the cache was eventually found it was lying wrecked on the ground so we replaced it and posted more accurate co-ords, but it looks like someone else came along later and did the same! So now there must be 2 caches out there. We then headed on to Broome and discovered one of the highlights of our 5 month trip - Quandong which is at the base of Cape Leveque - this place was truly a wonderland. We camped just 3 metres from the beach and went swimming whenever we felt like it. We stayed there for only 4 days as we didn't have sufficient water, but we could have stayed there for a week if we could.

We had to drop our Autofridge in Botany to have it repaired, so while we waited we decided to go to Port Hacking and finish the challenge. A lovely day and wonderful scenery.

What about Port Macquarie instead of Port Hacking
We have found 6 caches around Port Headland which is approx. 3,600 kms away from home, but not one in Port Hacking which is just 300 kms away! Oh well looks like a small detour next time we are on our way to Melbourne is in order
