The rock has gone and the road realigned and sealed so archiving is the best option at the moment.

A much better day for some Geocaching..so sick of all this rain. AlmaWoody is needing help to get her caravan stocked up and ready to go on the road for some summer trips so we made an early start to come here first for todays streak day #149. Arrived to where some road improvements are happening and GZ has been wiped out unfortunately. I found one of the OG rocks maybe about 10m away from GZ and have dropped a replacement cache there. A 50ml clear vial tube. CO will need to come and sort this one out in the near future.
Interesting write up! The bush is so thick you can hardly see the river so could see no tram tracks across the way but cool you can go explore it if youre game enough. TFTC
A shame the GZ has been ruined here as by looking at google maps its looked like a good place to hide a cache. Hope all the road works are finished now and the new container lives for awhile. Forgot to take new coords but its now behind the large (and only) rock in the vicinity. Thanks
Heading on to Taumarunui this morning from Whangamomona - the first time I have driven this bit of road since the 1970s when it was all unsealed. No problems here, found it after checking just a few likely spots. Signed log, TFTC!
A stop next to the dirt road. Good to get some distance from other cars and find a cache at while at it. Quick find. Local man driving by asked if we were lost and needed help... No thanks we are all fine.

Nice and easy find here. Good break from the long weekend traffic that is driving along here avoiding the Covid level 3 section of Highway 3.
Malinkaly and I planned a road trip to go to the MEGA but Covid has postponed the event again. We decided to continue on with our planned journey making adjustments as we go with the ever-changing travel restrictions.
Greetings from Dunedin!

I like it. My only concern is I hope I can get my small car back on the road! Very shingly and muddy. Tftc
Overran the gorge cache too busy being mesmerised by the scenery. After the lunch stop, I made sure I didn't miss this one. A nice easy find with great coordinates and hint during a fabulous bike ride through from Ohura to the capital of the Republic.

Thanks Size 13 for the cache. It’s #1394 for us. We found your cache on 16 February 2021. Lovely spot in a spectacular gorge.
Just about missed the rocks, but there they were, and a quick find. Raced out ahead of a camper van I could see coming down the road. TFTC Size 13.
Day 4 of a 10 day road trip round the bottom half of the North Island, and today it was New Plymouth to Owhango.
We weren’t going to go the Forgotten World Highway until it was mentioned to us by our hosts in N.P, so we did some research and thought that would be the way to go.
Pretty cool drive, would be frustrating in parts if you were stuck behind slow traffic, but we did not have that problem with a few regular cache stops. Whangamomona is a real treat of a town - great pub, and you get the feeling there is a great community spirit out here.
Really enjoyed it, great weather, and no problems with any caches, apart from adding some log paper. Thanks all COs.

A nice quick find thanks. Rocks nicely hidden by the long grass!
Ms_KR and I are on our annual pilgrimage to Auckland for our family Christmas. A biggish day km wise, from Gordonton to Stratford, via the Forgotten World Highway. A nice place for driving and views at times of Mounts Ruapehu and Taranaki. Please excuse the generic logs, there have been a few finds and they get muddled up sometimes.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

After talking about it for a few years we decided it was time to drive the forgotten highway. This was found on day 1 on our way to spend the night at the Whangamomona Hotel. Found as part of our school holiday North Island road trip. TFTC
We decided to head away for a few days in the camper and do some geocaching. One of our aims was to travel the Forgotten World Highway. Another one on the highway. Mrs S got out for this one just as a muggle vehicle came around the corner. Why does that always happen. However it didn't take long to pass and she soon found the cache. The grass was long and wet, but the cache was all dry.
Thanks Size 13. Another smilie on the Forgotten World Highway.

Unfortunately not the best day to venture down the river to find the coal mine entrance. Spotted the cache from the car and send wifey to grab it. TFTC
After we found the cache we just had to check out the coalmine. The way to the caves was adventurous! first crossing the river and then finding the way to the mine. We loved going up the stream. We entered at a hole but it was very narrow. 10 meters in a duck walk and we were exhausted but felt like real miners We are not quite sure if it was the fourth or right one. Nevertheless it was a lot of fun! Thanks so much for sharing.

Found with MrsC on our NZ travels, thanks. A great day travelling the Forgotten World Highway. Loved the gorge and a really rough gravel road
Very interesting place on our gravel road. Found with mr c on our travels from the UK thank you.
Found with our 3 and 6 y.o. Thank you Size 13 for making us stop here and for the wealth of information. Thank you.
Heading south along the Forgotten Highway, with the team back together. Stopped off to check out Coal Miner Corner and to get this one snagged and tagged. Cheers. Thanks for info on cache page.
Day 17 - Sunday 29 December. Taumaranui through to Hawera today. So lets go!!
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are spending Christmas exploring Taranaki via geocaching. Its been an amazing 3 week adventure. Rattls BBQ was a great event, meeting many other cachers. But also managed to fit in a few more events, especially New Years Day celebrating the start of 2020. Lots of caches - over 500. Lots of cache maintenance. Lots and lots of kilometers. And lots of amazing places visited along our journey. Mt Taranaki remained elusive for much of our travels and the caches on it at the top. Loved Pukekura Park Night Lights Show and the the Wooden Mechanical toy exhibition at NP Info centre.

Damn. we totally missed the cache description here. Would have loved to visit the mine. Oh well.
I have lost my notebook! When I go on a geotrip I record my finds and notes in a log book or, in the case of this big circumnavicaching trip around Mt Taranaki that Taybeedragon and I did over Christmas, in three notebooks. And I have lost notebook number 3 - 29th December onward. Luckily I enter the caches as found on the GPS (helps with avoiding backtracking) so I am using my GPS log to identify which caches I found/DNFed. Alas, however, no cache notes. So it is now March - and I am relying on memory. A fickle thing, memory. I suspect most will have no notes above. Sorry, folks.

For our NZ visit we created a "wishful-thinking-to-do-list" ... knowing we can not do them all but we can at least try. Old caches, earth, virtual and webcam are on the top of our list... but also some traditionals, multi etc...

Escorting Yeetrees on an outstanding Taranaki geocache hunt today. This was my second find of the day, but Yt must be up to about a dozen or more. Every time I’ve travelled SH43 I’ve overshot this cache and there’s nowhere really to turn around and backing up isn’t really an option so it was great to get it on this occasion. We’re running short of time to actually investigate the mine workings although the river flow is almost non-existent. Another time for that. TFTC
We are in New Zealand again visiting my eldest son and thought we would do some caches along the Forgotten World Highway. Easy find.

It was time to assemble Team BOP as I hadn't seen these crazy people since the Mega. The plan was Taranaki via the Forgotten World Highway and we were all pretty excited about it. It was a big couple of days so forgive the cut'n'paste logs as I'm logging retrospectively and a few of the hides are blurring together. TNXPro, McJandals, Davidson Clan & myself signed our logs individually or as TEAM BOP depending on time, log space or mood.
This cache was found quickly and in good condition thanks to accurate coords and a straight forward placement. Cheers Size 13, TFTC

TeamBOP have come together again for a trip to the Naki.
We decided to take the long way there, via the Forgotten Highway, experiencing the world famous in New Zealand Republic of Whangamomona Day.
I wish I read this cache page while we were here, as it would have been interesting to find the mine. The cache was a very easy find.
Thanks for bringing us to this awesome countryside.

Found using Cachly app and logged using the text template, so please excuse generic logging in advance. On a spur of the moment roadie with Phillip.Perry, TNXPRO and Davidson Clan from the Bay of Plenty, a plan was hatched and here we are. Great to have these places to visit and many thanks to all you COs for the placements. Cheers
Out with Tnxpro McJandals and Philip.Perry for a weekend road trip towards New Plymouth.
Drove the Forgotten World Highway as part of a family road trip. The caches helped keep the kids motivated. We didn't notice any coal, but the cache was an easy find. TFTC
Well this is the sort of cache that I love, because it taught me something new and unexpected.
With all the bush here now, you'd never have known there used to be an aerial cableway and tramway opposite. Thanks for the history lesson and TFTC!

Aiming to get to New Plymouth by dinner time, taking the scenic option. Quick find and luckily no traffic as I was very close to the middle of the road trying to avoid the gravel! TFTC!!
Not great for parking, but not much traffic (in fact: no traffic...) Quick find, TFTC
#10,537. Today we took a nice drive to Aukopae, Tokirima and Tangarakau on the Forgotten World Highway (New Zealand State Highway 43). GZ was all quiet at the time of our visit. Quick find. The cache was in good condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Today we made a trip from Stratford to the National Park Village, just short before Whakapapa, thereby visiting many new sightseeing locations and looking for caches, too. On this trip we searched, found and logged a lot of caches. The weather was between good and not so good all day long, colder in the morning but it got warmer in the afternoon. Clouds were our compagnions the whole trip.
Almost no muggels observed us as they had other things to do than observing harmless geocachers.
Thanks to Size 13 for showing us this location and for the fun we had at Coalmine Corner (Taranaki). The search we had here today didn't take too much time.
Greetings from Germany and hope to see you soon in the forest.

On a road trip doing the forgotten highway on our way to Whangamomona. Loving the history supplied by the information oards and the CO's. Work must have been hard in this area - Where men were men!!! TFTC
This was a great hide that we found on a damp day travelling the Forgotten Highway. Cache was dampish bit not wet. Thanks for the hide and the historic info.
On the road for our first venture into the North Island with our little caravan to explore this part of the country. It is not a caching expedition as such, but we do manage to stop for one or two . We’ve been on the road now for 36 days since arriving in Wellington and are now on stage 2 of our trip – ‘The Crossing’ – from the East coast to the West coast. We arrived in New Plymouth, via the Forgotten World Highway from Tauramanu, Rotorua, and Whakatane. Stage 1 was the East Coast, Gisborne, Mahia, Wairoa, Napier, Cape Kidnappers, the Wairarapa, Cape Turnagain and Cape Palliser. We’ve had a variety of weathers, but mostly ‘good’, although a few days have been a bit , Hola was a somewhat of a ‘no show’, thank goodness. We have already seen and discovered lots of interesting things about our country that are new to us. Our travels lead us to your cache, as we travelled across the island, many thanks, Size 13, for bringing us here. We’ve had great fun so far and look forward to finding a couple more caches as we travel on our way. TFTC.

Another stop to explore this amazing place. Sadly not enough time to explore the tunnels, and river to high to wade across. Thanks again Size 13 for the hide, and sharing the history of this place.

Found during our holiday to New Zealand together with GeoFinn. Touring in a campervan through this amazing country; second time here, now with our son. 5 weeks was over in a blink; already plans for a third time.
Travelling, geocaching, hiking, kayakking, swimming, mountains, lakes, geyers, beaches; it was amazing. CO's thanks for your cache, it made our trips even more fun.

On our way along the Lost World Highway we stopped on several occasions and learned a lot about the pioneers who built the first version of this road.

TregearP, Kanga&Bear and I had decided to take the Forgotten Highway from New Plymouth to Taupo.
We didn't have time to complete all the caches, but we selected ones along the way that marked historic places or points of interest. Thanks to all the COs whose caches we visited - this is a great route to follow, although after all the recent rain it was a tad gnarly in places with trees down, slips, and large boulders on the round. All part of the journey.

I found this geocache in the company of Cats&Dragons, HKCB and Kyb3r. We were together thanks to Cats&Dragons who had organised another one of his infamous Geocaching ‘missions’. The goal was to pick up a bunch of T5 caches along the Wanganui river via speedboat. We met at his place after work on Friday night and headed out into the night taking the kind of detours only an overachieving Geocacher can appreciate on our way to Tamaranui which is how we ended up here. We signed the log HOAC to save on space and as a reference to our crazy trip together. We did eventually get to Tamaranui at about 4am after Geocaching throughout the night. We pulled the car over, got maybe an hour and a half of uncomfortable, disrupted sleep, and then set off again to meet with six other Geocachers from Hamilton and Auckland who were joining us on the boat trip. It was certainly a memorable trip.
One of our quicker finds during our trip. Thanks for placing it.

We had planned a trip a few weeks ago to Jet Boat down the Whanganui River, something that had been on my to do list for a few years now, and the time had now come to head down to Taumarunui and jump on the water. However while discussing this with C&D we decided to throw in a side mission and try and locate a few caches along the Northern end of the "Forgotten Highway" including Mt. Damper Falls and finishing with a clean out of Taumarunui the night before because as C&D constantly reminds us "sleep is for the weak!".
So we set off at 5.30pm Friday night, with Iammrwalker and Kyb3r in tow heading to the first cache of the trip. This side mission turned out to be very successful with us completing everything we wanted with a few hours of darkness left to grab an hour or two of sleep before making our way to the Jet Boat. We signed the logbooks with HOAC a group caching name we use from time to time. A big thanks to all the CO's whose caches we found on this side mission.
A bit of luck happened while finding this cache. Used the headlights on the car to get near GZ and I when I turned the torch on it was pointing straight at the cache, so a very quick find.

A bit damp at gz today and the road greasy, but the cache was safely dry. Tftc.
with a last minute trip up north we decided to make a big push to my goal of getting 3000 before the end of the year, I think we will get close starting with picking up some park in grabs, weather is lovely and always glad of the aircon in the car, hubby driving and kaleb helping when he could, thanks for the placement. First time hubby and I have been on this road on our way to raglan for some trail finding.
We stayed the night on Waiwhena Rd and are now caching our way towards New Plymouth for Christmas. Thanks for the interesting history about the mine, what a hard life the early residents of the area had. We would have loved to have seen it, but getting there sounded a bit intrepid for a spur of the moment side trip.
We are now going to visit Tangarakau, so will see where the coal ended up.
