Melbourne 2024. XPT. Concert. Discord Mates. Geocaching.Quickly identified the two conversions required. However, an 'autocorrect' typo made the second step unnecessarily frustrating. No issues once I manually rechecked my working. A quick find at GZ. TFTC

Worked out ages ago with help from geo friend.Today is good time to find it as not many muggles around here.TFTH

This one's a bit off my beaten track so I solved it so long ago I don't remember all the details... Headphones, a notepad, and inevitable help from my favourite search engine... A nice brisk morning for a walk down from Flinders while ticking off some ad lab locations, tftc

I arrived here early in the morning, while everyone nearby was rushing to work and school. This is the 1st cache of the day. It took me a while to spot the cache.

I had recently solved this one, after some searching and working out just how to get this into a set of coordinates! With todays event in the general area, I set off early to grab this before heading to the event. The weather was looking dicey but it remained fine for the find. With no snow be in sight I made the quick retrieval and the log was inked.A big thanks goes to mcwombat for taking the time to add A Ham Indeed to the geocaching map for us all to find and enjoy.----------------------------------------------------------Are you ready for Victorias next big event?Join us for Victorias first ever *Block Party* to celebrate 25 years of geocaching.**When:** March 22 - 23, 2025**Where:** Hume Global Learning Centre, SunburyLog your will attend at [**GCAP417: The Sunbury Event** ](https://coord.info/GCAP417) Visit our [**Block Party website** ](https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/the-sunbury-event) for more details on the exciting lineup of events and activities as they are released!

Im continuing along with my streak today and as I was in the general area this morning I had time for a quick walk to look for this one as I had solved this previously.I thought once the kids had moved out of home I would only have small maintenance tasks at home. Now Im in the city for maint on one of their properties now.At least it was early Sunday morning and I could find a park for the Geowagon easily enough.A bit fresh but another beautiful Melbourne morning and when the sun came out it was just perfect.A nice spot around here and also very quiet and after 1 lap I soon spotted the cache and added my name to the log. Thanks mcwombat TFTC.

Histion and I went for a farewell walk nearby. We said goodbye and I wandered down to this cache that Ive had solved for a while but just never get to this part of the world. I had a quick look at one host as I passed but a more logical one was more on the coordinates. Yay! Cache found and log signed. Thanks.

Goldy and Jimmy are spending a few days in Melbourne to watch some of the round 1 AFL games. We are attending the following:Carlton vs RichmondCollingwood vs SydneyGeelong vs St KildaMelbourne vs Western BulldogsI found a handful of caches in the Melbourne city area and a bunch in Geelong since I'd never been down that way before.I was out caching solo as Jimmy was knackered after driving to and from Geelong for the footy yesterday. Plus, getting a FTF just before midnight in North Melbourne delayed getting back to our accommodation. I went for a walk to the Shrine of Remembrance to knock off some caches I really wanted to get.I solved this before my last visit to Melbourne but never got to the final. This time, I came by and a quick was made at GZ. Log is a tad damp but was still singable.I signed the log as "Goldy" to save room. Thanks for the cool puzzle and cache. Nice spot here. Thanks mcwombat for this mystery cache, which brings Goldy's total find count to 4099 on the 17th of March 2024.I appreciate all the CO's who spend time and resources contributing to the Geocaching game board.Shoutout to the reviewers who dedicate time to make sure our game is safe and enjoyable.I look forward to attending GCACHF8 in Sydney in early 2025. Hope to see plenty of people there!

Danke fr diesen Geocache. Danke fr die Ausarbeitung. Danke frs Zeigen.Lieber Gru aus Duisburg / DeutschlandAndyDieser Logeintrag wird mit Hilfe von Google bersetzt.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________We set off on a long journey with 37 geocachers from Germany, Denmark, Luxembourg and Switzerland. Three weeks to Australia and New Zealand, starting with a stopover in Doha, Qatar. I have never been so long and so far away from home. An exciting time. When geocaching, the focus was on many different cache types, but also special ratings, challenges and especially a few very old caches from the years 2000 and 2001. But also, of course, especially the geocaches that were easily accessible on foot from the hotel.Of course, the focus wasn't just on geocaching; the sights of the individual stations we visited also deserved attention. We entered our team name Downunder 2024 in the logbooks, saving logbook space and efficiently. It was a very special trip in a large team, which was also a lot of fun.Today we went on nice excursions around the Melbourne area.Due to the large number of caches, there is usually only one standard log, for which I would like to apologize to the different owners. Thanks for this geocache. Thanks for the elaboration. Thank you for showing me.Kind regards from Duisburg / GermanyAndy

Together with 36 other geocachers, the KiSt team undertook a very long trip to Australia ???? and New Zealand ???? for three weeks. On both the outward and return journeys, there was a stopover in Doha, the capital of Qatar ????.We experienced a great deal on this trip and gained many very different impressions of the two countries, their nature and their culture. Of course, the main focus was on visiting as many caches of as many different types as possible and also all accessible old cans. However, we also made sure to visit many special places of interest and to gain as comprehensive an impression as possible of nature and its flora and fauna. To save the logbooks, we usually signed in with our team name **Downunder24**. For "special" cans, however, we have not missed the opportunity to leave our nickname as well. This beautiful cache is now also one of our finds.Due to the large number of caches visited, it is unfortunately not possible for us to write an individual log for each can, which is why we would like to apologize to the owners for this collective log.We also met other cachers at some of the events and were able to share our experiences. Many thanks to the event owners!Of course we would like to thank all the owners for showing us the great locations, the sometimes tricky puzzles, exciting multis and wherigos, as well as the interesting virtuals and earth caches - TFTC!!!---In der Besetzung KiSt unternahmen wir zusammen mit 36 weiteren Geocachern fr drei Wochen eine sehr weite Reise nach Australien ???? und Neuseeland ????.

My husband and I are on holidays from Brisbane and today we took a 11km walk around Melbourne collecting virtual caches and caches with FP's. I looked at this puzzle before our trip and thought I would never have been able to solve it. So I went about trying to figure out how to jet ski it. Amazingly I figured out how to find the cache without solving the puzzle to some degree but looking at the puzzle again after a bit of this and that it all fell into place. Happy to have it solved I really wanted to find it today and was very happy when my husband called out those great 3 words "I found it". Loved this puzzle. Thanks for all the fun

It was a dark and rainy night, the memorial was glowing and trees were rustling and I was WET

solved fairy quickly and found very quickly, my guess of the exact GZ was very close. Tftc

14-May-23
A rare day out in these neck of the woods picking up some solved puzzles and random caches. This one has been solved for awhile and I remember getting over the first hurdle easily enough, but the next stage took quite some time. Steve always knew when I was working on this puzzle as I think it drove him nuts, as it did me:) Eventually used a tool, which wasn’t brilliant, but good enough to get a reasonable looking GZ.

Thankfully the find was nice & quick.

Thank you mcwombat for this challenging puzzle and bringing us to this lovely area.

13-May-23
I had the puzzle solved some time ago, but didn't convert the co-ordinates accurately enough, so when I first tried to find it, I was nowhere near GZ. Last week, (several years down the track), I tried again, but the area was cordoned off, yet others had recently found it. I realised that my co-ords couldn't be right, so with a bit of research, and some more calculations, I came up with a set of co-ordinates that looked more promising.

At my GZ, there was no possible way to hide a micro there, but nearby there was a likely looking object. After circling once, I discovered the cache. My thanks to mcwombat for the puzzle and the cache.

Find 16 of 29 along with 1 DNF and 23 Ad Lab locations on a 25km bike ride around Melbourne, including a lap of Albert Park, which we last rode around in 2012 BC (before caching).

Couldn't make the find at our GZ, so jetski-ed with the help of some previous logs - we were about 40m out somehow. All good once looking in the right place.

TFTC mcwombat!

Epic cache! Took about an hour to crack the code using various websites, but it was a quick find once I got to the coordinates. Easy FP. TFTC

11-Jan-23
As my daughter is attending a music summer school each day this week in this area, we are taking the opportunity to clear out some caches in the area. With a nice sunny afternoon we came to find this one with about 75% certainty of the correct coordinates.
I had solved this about a year ago, and loved the method for doing so, but I wasn’t sure if I had it right, so it was a great relief when my daughter spotted it upon arrival at GZ.
A great puzzle. TFTC

Mr CNQ was out for another morning walk and signed this log as well. Solved a while ago, neat little cache and puzzle, thanks mcwombat.

08-Jan-23
I solved this puzzle some years ago however every time I was near the GZ it was muggle central. Today I had some patience and waited around for the muggles to leave so I could swoop in.

07-Jan-23
I loved this puzzle. I couldn't find any standard online calculator so I had to write some code in python (which will work on any "indeed-a-ham"s So it was productive in many ways. Fast find at GZ unlike another exploit I did later which ended with an annoying nature hide wrought with spiders and mosquitos. The puzzle was great, the venue was beautiful

25-Nov-22
An early evening cache hunt with Crustyvarmint and his faithful offsider, Pilot. I used to work nearby but I could barely recognise the area. Access to GZ took some time before we worked out where we could to park and walk to GZ. A quick find but not quick enough to prevent mosquitoes finding me. Interesting puzzle - I had not heard of this system before. Thanks to mcwombat for the puzzle and cache.

25-Nov-22
I was lucky to have help in solving this puzzle. Having decided to search for a night cache in Port Melbourne, Lynjoh and I stopped off here to collect this one before darkness fell. With the tunnelling works limiting our vehicular access, we managed to navigate our way to GZ bon foot/paws, with Pilot the hound checking out all the new scents along the way. John made the find here.
Thanks for the fun, mcwombat.

22-Nov-22
Came along with ilook4geo and looked around and found this one which was our target cache for the day. The log was signed and all was put back into place. We then wandered along to find another cache which was placed nearby. Thanks you to mcwombat for placing this cache.

Just adding a few more caches to the list after finding this one with goingplaces2. All was done to keep the written record in order. TFTC.

Find #6467

Lucky to have another work trip to MEL, this time based on the south side, so making the most of the opportunity to enjoy walking around and e plotting the city on foot. Especially good for some bonus caching relaxation.

Really enjoyed solving this puzzle, though could not have done it without the help to get started with out puzzle group. Once the first layer, then the second layer, and the third.... Very clever, I really enjoyed this one a fav from me!

Thanks so much mcwombat for getting me out and about, and for highlighting this spot

Regards to Uncle John, sounds like a good man! Being a nerd, the first part of the puzzle was easy for me, but turning that into coordinates took some googling and effort. Somehow my result was spot on, and and I made the find quickly once at gz. Thanks for the fun puzzle, and TFTC from Tennessee, USA

#194

I first encountered this cache when deciding to crack mystery caches during my sickness for some GC hope later down the road.

Uh oh! After endless searching a couple of days ago, it was revealed to me this morning I was in the wrong location. (Searching vigorously for a micro)

I had the tools of the trade (a stick) and fought off a handful of Aragogs.

After a few goes and no hope, I decided to revisit the code, the activity log and the brain falling out of my ear.

I was on location with an hours time to spare and cracking this was essential.

I decided to revisit the cipher and see what I could do, once the code was cracked, I sat for a while at the GZ a bit lost for where to look.

It wasn't until I saw a helpful story from a fellow cacher that gloves would be essential if you had allergies, and boom. Got it within the minute. My hand does hurt though!

I shall return when there are no witnesses...

Our first puzzle find!
Had such a great time determining the coordinates while learning something new. Research took a little bit of time to find an accurate source.
Cache in hand fairly quickly after seeing past logs.

Courtneyrose_ and I headed to Melbourne for a weekend away for a holiday and some sight seeing but couldn't forget to do a bit of caching as well.
This morning we went for a long walk from the city around the botanical gardens and past the G and back to the accommodation, just over 20,000 steps.

A quick find here this morning cache is all good.

Thanks for the cache

I'd solved this one a little over three years ago in preparation for a trip into the city that I knew would take me close to the posted coordinates and, disappointingly, didn't take me quite close enough to the final.
Perhaps I chose the wrong puzzle to solve Wink

I was really only a newbie to the puzzling genre at the time, but was pleased to find that this was a fairly straightforward endeavour with nothing venturing into outlandish guessing territory at any stage.
I believe I came across a tool during the process of this puzzle that has proven itself immensely useful in subsequent solves and was also introduced to a new technique that has been good to know in other instances too.
The final step proved a little tricky, as there was a small margin of error in the coordinate possibilities (having not yet located a source for direct calculation) and I added a little note for future me to deal with any problems that arose as a result.

Hi, future me here.
While I was pleased to have been brought to such a lovely location at gz, I did recall the coordinate issues and made sure my search radius was kept fairly wide.
However, my noted coordinates did seem to land on the most likely place within any reasonable distance - unfortunately, it just so happened to be right behind where someone was sitting.
By this point, we were fast approaching lunchtime and I headed off to grab that first before coming back about 45 minutes later to find that THEY WERE STILL THERE!!!!

I decided to just start searching anyway just as the muggle kindly decided to leave.
It wasn't long after then that the cache was finally spotted and I opened it up to find... nothing?
Strangely, there was not a logbook to be seen within despite the container being in pristine condition - I had a few spares on me though, so I added one in.

Thanks to mcwombat for the puzzle and final! Smile

a ham in deed
is a ham indeed

riddle:
despite our geocaching epithet suggesting we are half ham, we in fact have little to no experience in that field
we have more familiarity with communication via amateur tiktoks than amateur radio
so the puzzle sat in the weighty heighty do-not-comprehend bundle until a chance consultation with an ancestral hog unlocked the vault

treasure:
the sky patchy blue and dark grey with sporadic cloudbursts: umbrellas up and down like a piston
a celebration of the first time in the city since last summer
the prompt: a work christmas party in the botanic gardens
compulsory santa hats, mindless chitchat about uni and work and politics, but on the plus side: a human-sized charcuterie board
including... of course... ham
after we were shooed away by a golf cart before the gates snapped shut, i headed off and away over hill and down dale across the gardens to collect this treasure
good stuff

We had tried to find this one after solving a few years ago but GZ was blocked off with construction work. Today the scene looked very different with the new station being built. We search our initial quadrant and then expanded the radius to discover a good hiding spot. Could even enjoy a seat while signing the log. TFTC and puzzle.

Greetings from Scotland. We solved part of this puzzle at home but just couldn't manage to complete it. We had hit on what it was all about very quickly and got a location but it wasn't good enough. MrsF kept trying to find another resource and kept failing. She looked at it again last night and, this time, came up with a different resource. It narrowed things down a bit and allowed her to do the necessary calculation to get a set of final coordinates. She was delighted to see the final was close to where we were going to be today. Armed with a set of coordinates we headed off. We were taken to somewhere a cache could be hidden but the hint didn't match. We looked around us and MrsF headed a few feet to something else and spotted what we had come for. It was nice to turn this one into a smiley.

*This is our 10507th logged find. Found at 13:24 hrs.* TFTC

With slightly wrong coords and muggles right near a suspected 15m out GZ, we moved on. After another cache we sat down and whilst getting eaten by the mozzies, worked out the puzzle from scratch. By this time the muggles hasd moved on it was a quick find !

Thanks mcwombat for A Ham Indeed

We both had different calculated coordinates for this one, But atsmug's coords looked way more plausible so we headed there first. After a brief search and widening the search area, we gave up and decided to head to my coords instead. Upon arrival, our GPSrs were pointing in the direction of the middle of the road, so didn't spend long here.
Back to the drawing board, we decided to sit and re-work out the whole thing. With pen and paper in hand, and various websites later, we eventually had a fresh set of coords. Note: atsmug's original coords were way closer than mine.
This time, arriving at gz, all the muggles had left, so a quick and easy find.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache, mcwombat

Today we found A Ham Indeed on our travels. We are being tourists in our own town. A puzzle in the Chief’s favorite part of the city. A wander around the city on the weekend is awesome.
Thanks mcwombat for being part of our geocaching fun.

We first looked at this puzzle about five years ago but struggled. We contacted the CO who generously gave us a slight nudge in the right direction. It was great to learn something new. About three years ago we went to look for the cache but restoration works prevented us getting to GZ. This evening we were booked on The Spirit of Tasmania to head home and we had a little spare before we had to board. So we decided to see if this cache was available. Access to the area was straightforward. Accurate coordinates and the hint led to a quick find. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks for an enjoyable and informative cache - it earns a favourite from us.

Shout out to PEARLWIND who helped me decipher the first bit so that I could research the second bit. It was a needle in a haystack but will go down as one of the most satisfying finds I can remember. Taught me something new too!

Thank you for the puzzle and the cache.

In Melbourne from Sydney for the weekend and a Swans game. Skating from a loss to the Bombes yesterday, we set out to have a bit of success. Took the tram to a nearby stop and made our way to GZ. Don’t want to give away GZ but we saw the side of a hill open up to reveal a secret underground bunker! Wow! Curious about the placement at this particular place. Does it relate to Uncle John? Truly enjoyed the puzzle which we solved a couple of days before we headed south. A favourite from us. SL TFTC Cheers... Gaztek

Whoa! This was A very cool puzzle. I must have transcribes that first part fifty times not trusting what I was finding. So I had a think. Did a bit of scrambling, filled that lead....aha! Now there’s something I never knew before! How very interesting! Took a bit more research before I found a way for
it to make sense. Excellent! Did I mention we live in Sydney? We’re heading to Melbourne on the weekend for the Swans v Bombers game and a bit of geocaching. Will try to get to GZ then. Cheers.... Gaztek

With the family out and about in Melbourne, we were able to enjoy some time in the gardens. There were a few people around today also enjoying the surroundings but once I closed in on the final location, I kept a sharp eye out for muggles while taking a few goes at spotting this cache. The puzzle was sorted out some time ago and it was nice to be able to come past and collect this one today [^]

Thanks to Crank1. She had already solved this one so we were able to retrieve it whilst in the city. There were a couple of people at GZ. They were a couple of tourists that we were able to help with directions after explaining what we were doing. Thanks for placing this cache.

Fortunate to be with someone that had already solved this one so able to log it whilst in the city. Doubt that I would have got it without her help as I still struggled a little when she explained. Thanks for bringing us here.

On a day put in the gardens caching with Crank1, Geoturtle37 and Papi4506. Crank1 had previously solved this one, and I was more than willing to accompany her to pick it up! A nice part of the garden we probably would have missed if not for the cache. Thanks so much for placing this cache mcwombat

Melbourne Day 1: CBD and South Yarra - Prahran.

Flew in to Melbourne from Auckland for one last hurrah on this caching holiday, and got in nice and early this morning. Took a walk around the city while waiting for check in at the hotel and got a few caches along the way. Once I could check in, I took a short break and headed out again in the evening to get a few more. All good and nice in the city today, and picked up a nice number of caches too. Thanks for all the caches!

The following is the specific log for each cache:
Second cache on the evening walk through the south of the city. I learnt about this through another puzzle that I have yet to completely solve, but nice that it is useful here. TFTC!

The Bromance of Crookedpete, Swellerfungus and Seffnjarah were off to Melbourne for a long weekend road trip from Brisbane, with the main aim of attending the Parkville Mega as well as collecting a number of caches on our rather lengthy hit list. Always keen to pick up a solved puzzle along the way, and Swellerfungus and Crookedpete graciously allowed me to stop off here despite both having found this cache on previous visits to Melbourne. Day 2 of the 3 day whirlwind "Bromance" Parkville Mega FIFO trip. Our plan today is to collect an eclectic mix of rarer caches around inner Melbourne before attending the Mega later in the afternoon. The target caches for the day were virtuals, old caches to fill jasmer holes, unloved caches, rarer DT types to help with our next DT loops, challenge caches and the necessary qualiting caches for them.

Seffnjarah, Swellerfungus and I cached for about 15 hours yesterday after a very late night arrival into Melbourne on Thursday night, so the first task for the morning was coffee before we hit the road.....

Having secured a park, Seffnjarah and I wandered over to this one. I was intrigued by some other machinery involved in the infrastructure works nearby. A nice quick find as per the hint.

Some logs were signed "Bromance" to save space. Many thanks mcwombat for placing this cache.

We solved the puzzle before coming to Australia. Nice idea this audio riddle. With the hint, the find was quite easy, as we like to see it with ? caches. Smile

This was a great puzzle. I had lots of fun with the first straightforward bit. Then I had NO idea what the result meant.
A little prod at an event had me finishing off the puzzle myself that night.

Finally today I had the opportunity to actually pick it up!
As I arrived I saw it was my 2nd in a row cache with a DNF before my search. Thankfully, like with the one before, I found it with little trouble.

And you know what? I think you've earned a

After solving the first part, I was a bit confused until the hint provided me with a new direction to research.

A bit of logical thinking for the final little bit and had the search narrowed down, in the end it seemed there was only once place it could be and it was a relatively quick find - only a couple of hundred metres from the office.

Thanks for teaching me something new!! and thanks for creating this fun puzzle.

Found by David, while Mary had lunch with friends at Southbank, at 1230. David had fun solving the puzzle last night. The coordinates pointed right at GZ and, with nobody else nearby, found the cache about half way through the first pass. Our thanks to mcwombat.

I found it difficult to narrow the coordinates right down, so I had a bit of a wide search area. I was passing the area and decided to have a quick hunt around. Fortunately the cache was found surprisingly quickly. This was a very interesting puzzle.

I'd solved this one a while ago, while ClanMagee and I were attempting (and succeeding at) the mystery month challenge. We didn't get around to finding this cache at the time though. Today I took the long way home from work and managed to make quick work of finding it. +1fp for the nice puzzle. TFTC!

EsromL and I had solved a number of puzzles near the CBD prior to our short visit from Adelaide for the tennis. I thought this was a really good puzzle - I learned something new and enjoyed it.

Today we had some time to spare and headed out to find a few caches. This was a nice quick find in a quiet area today.

Thanks mcwombat for the puzzle and the cache. A favourite point from me.

Solved the first part of the puzzle about a year ago, but got stuck on the second part. Kept coming back to it and a couple of months ago I was able to work out how to solve the whole thing.

In the city as support crew for the Melbourne Marathon, so while my wife ran the race, the family went caching and cheered her on at various places around the course. Massive amount of people around but they all seemed so focused on the marathon we were were able cache unobserved in the open.

There were 3 caches on my must do list for today, and this was the closest to the start of the Marathon at the MCG, so was first on the list. Kids were a bit worried (and entertained) by a police car parked on the open grass area at GZ but they quickly moved off leaving tire marks on the grass. After 5 minutes searching was started to get worried that it was missing or I'd done the puzzle wrong when my daughter said "Is this it?"

Thanks for the puzzle McWombat

I solved this one ages ago - with completely incorrect coordinates. I went and hunted and was lost and confused.

Returned to the puzzle the other day, and corrected my really obvious mistakes - no idea how I managed to get it so wrong last time.

Major works close to the GZ do not affect access to the cache.

However, although the hide is neat, I'm not so sure it's a good one - I was very careful but there are obvious signs of damage to the location, which seems a pity indeed. I wonder if a small rethink is in order.
