Google translation: After visiting Motuhara Island, we come in the footsteps of Captain Cook and Queen Charlotte . We do not hesitate to look for the caches that lie in our path, even if the internet network is almost non-existent. Thank you to all the installers for the work carried out for our greatest pleasure. Greetings from France. Our Travel Bugs pass through this cache but do not come out of our backpack; they continue the adventure with us. Trip to New Zealand, decided very quickly , but that didn't stop us from preparing a small file of caches to search, as far as possible. The GC46 was, of course, at the top of that list! and there you have it, we visited it during our stay in Wellington. Yesss!! TheLandGirl and I are down from Auckland to complete the Queen Charlotte track over 4 days. Day one was a 17km hike from Ship Cove to Furneaux Lodge. We made a quick visit to Cook's Monument and found this cache while here. A lovely and interesting spot here and beautiful weather to start the day. TFTC!
Great quick find. Thanks very much for this. Looking forward to finding more on the Queen Charlotte track.
I am on an adventure cruise and this was our first stop. Before leaving the boat this morning I tried without success to pull up caches but the internet was too slow. I hiked to the waterfall then back to the boat for lunch. I was finally able to pull up the caches before returning to shore for the afternoon but this time our group was heading up the Queen Charlotte Trail. Bummed that I would not be able get back to the cache at the waterfall, I was determined to get back down the mountain in time to log this cache before having to return to the boat. Thankfully, I made it! I found the cache, signed the log, shot a quick video for my geocaching friends back home, and left a travel bug. Thanks to the cacher who hid this and the one who maintains it. Favorite point awarded for the remote and beautiful location.
During a stop of the boattrip found this cache. It was a pitty it was raining. What a beautyful place. TFTC
After a day taking the ferry from the North island and chilling in Picton organising resupply, today I began the South Island portion of my Te Araroa journey. However, having barely walked 50 steps from the jetty, I already had my pack dumped on the ground as myself and other hikers took the opportunity for a swim at the beautiful Ship Cove. Eventually though, I wandered away from the group and made the search for this one. A quick and easy find, all is good. Now on with the hiking! My thanks go to the cache owner kiwimykl for placing one here, the perfect smiley on the geo map to mark my onwards progress just shy of the 1716km mark of my tramp. Cheers.-- This log is trackable ! ---- Feel free to discover ---- Please mention, in which cache you've seen this code: ---- 3TABQX --
Our NEW ZEALAND - TASMANIA - AUSTRALIA TRIP takes us to wonderful places and gives us an incredible number of beautiful moments and experiences. On occasion we also visit a few GeoCaches on our way. Found the can well, the logbook is very WET and needs maintenance!Thank you for laying, nurturing and caring for it snapfish2 from Switzerland
My favourite cache ever! ( will award one!) A quick 10 min stop here enabled us to find and log the cache . Tftc
I initially overshot the mark so back tracked slightly and, using the hint, quickly found the cache. Now to start the hike along the Queen Charlotte, TFTC!
Phone accuracy not good and description not downloaded but cachers nouse found it tftc
Found this one on a morning cruise through the Marlborough sound. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache.
The start of a 1500 km bike ride to Milford Sound. will be trying to average 150 km per day so not too much time for caching. Thanks to the Kennett brothers for bringing us to this special place
Arrived in ships cove do spend 4 days walking the track. Abysmal weather today and only just made it out. Cache looks like the weather had moved it into the open. We replaced to closer to the correct position
Time for a QC walk with the family and this was the first one on the list. Nice and easy and quite the historic spot! Cheers
Started the Queen Charlotte with a hiss and a roar, marking the start of the South Island stretch of Te Araroa. Waited for the boat passengers to move off before having a quick scrabble around in the dark recesses of GZ to find the cache. Cracker of a day and beautiful spot. TFTC
After all fellow travelers had left the scene and set off on the Queen Charlotte Trail, I was able to look for the cache in peace. It took me a while to spot the box and find a tool to salvage it. The logging was done under the watchful eyes of a weka.
Dropped off to start queen Charlotte track. Was in a bit of a rush so missed it at first but realising we had heaps of time to spare for the walk Inwent back for another look and found it easily: Great start to my caching walk
So here we were at the start of the QC track. A lovely spot and glad there was a cache here as really worth a visit to this historic monument. TFTC
First day of a four day sea kayaking paddle around Queen Charlotte Sound. The water taxi had dropped the group off here and while everyone was getting ready, ducked away for a quick find. Thanks for placing the cache, added an extra component for the weekend.
Cache in good condition.

Just back from the waterfall and the area was now deserted so a quick and easy find
I have been messaged by a recent finder to say the cache is in place further under bridge than described.
Re-enabling.

I have messaged the last finder and she said the cache was not on the ledge, but tucked up in the corner under the bridge, jetty end and upstream side, so the corner closest to the shelter.
I was the finder who messaged Kiwimykl to say that the cache was still there and in great condition.
Super cool location for a cache!

I've never managed to kayak out this far, unfortunately the wind puts a stop to each planned trip. This weekend was supposed to be a circumnavigation of D'urville Island but once again the wind has stopped that so instead I got the water taxi here to walk the track. When we got here I was wishing I did have my kayak but a couple of hours later and the rest of the trip I was glad to be on land. I had to wait for what felt like forever for the muggles to either get back on the boat or start their trip. I had to think back to my white water course for the hint but still couldn't find it, started trying the other locations then spotted it from the other side it was back to far out of my short arms reach so used my walking stick to move it over. Thanks for placing the cache Kiwimykl

Cache # 4,999 - first find for CelloJoss and I properly on the QC Track. This one took a while, as we waited for the surge of muggles going through, then had to jealously guard the cache container from the inquisitive wekas nearby. All good here. TNLNSL. TFTC!
Did with The Wandering Dragons today shortly after getting off the boat. A brisk wind made this the coldest spot on the entire Queen Charlotte Track. Happy to be moving after this. Thanks!
After miss-reading the clue and leading everyone with me on a bit of a hunt.
Eventually after ignoring my story about how the Mississippi runs uphill my buddies had success... then watched someone else go even further off track than I was LOL

After being put in the wrong track by the others I'm out with, it felt like a lost cause. A wee bit later and some food had me hunting again and this time with success.
Tftc took a while to find this one!

We're spending a few days in the Sounds to continue our summer holidays. We had three magic days with no cloud and no wind. Even our hosts said they don't remember such good weather here!
On our first afternoon we walked from Ship Cove to Resolution Bay. We found this before we got underway. Nice and straight forward find thanks to the hint. TFTC.

Day one of our walk along the QCT. Off the boat, waived goodbye to our bags...see you at Miners Camp.
A quick snack and drink before we set off. With some helpful guidance from one quarter of the Sullisauruses I found the correct side of the GZ.
All good and off we go.
Thanks

One of the best locations I ever visited. Thanks for this great cache! Unfortunately, the log book is super wet. Did not have spare cache or log with me. Maybe one of the next loggers could replace? TFTC!!!
Thanks to 'luckyfour' who have replaced the cache with a temporary log, I am able to enable this cache again. I will endeavour (pun intended) to get to GZ with a permanent replacement before the end of March 2020.
When I was hiking the track I was looking for this cache. I saw, that the box in not there anymore. I left a paper as logbook wrapped in plastic, that it doesn't get wet and informed the owner. I hope this is okay!

Looks like this one has gone missing again. Never mind, it give me an excuse to take the jetski for a blat. It might be a while as I will probably not get out there until my Christmas break.
Ricardinhonz and I both had a look for this one and we are pretty sure it is not there.
Found accidentally by the girl geocache hunter of the family whilst there on a Scouts walk. We had thought it not possible in a group to be stealthy but managed it just fine . Tftc

During our holiday in New Zealand we have visited both the North and the South Island. We saw a lot of highlights of this beautiful country, but there is so much more to see. So many highlights, so many caches! The geocaches showed us a lot of special and interesting places. Sometimes a quick find, sometimes we had to search longer. A few DNF's, but that doesn't matter. We loved New Zealand and we hope to come back some day!
Today we have found the cache "Cook's Quadrant (Nelson/Marlborough)".
Kiwimykl, thanks for creating and maintaining this cache!

My school was doing its annual activity week and this time I was visiting to the Queen Charlotte Sound and like the absurd geocacher I am, if we stopped near any geocaches I was definitely going to be trying to finding them.
This morning we caught the water taxi to Ship Cove and where my group stopped for a bit to read the signs and explore the area. While they did that I attempted to find this geocache trying to look as unsuspicious as I possible since I had people that knew me walking about. After looking for about ten minutes and making various random excuses to why I was looking around the bridge. I was approached by a friend of mine asking what I was doing and I was just so desperate to find it, I asked them to help me. With both of us on the job, we began searching, I quickly went under the bridge hoping no one else would see me and ask what I was doing. I couldn't find anything but I spotted something on the other side that made me immediately suspicious after checking it out I found that it was hiding the geocache. I got it out and signed it while my friend looked on at me weirdly. TFTC, I have always wanted to find geocaches while travelling so this made my day!!

Found after a slippery walk from Resolution Bay. Beautiful cove to have lunch. Thanks for inspiring us to walk here!
Cache check carried out after a recent replacement. ricardinho.nz certainly did a great job building the rock wall to protect the cache. Future finders please replace as found, there is abundant evidence that this cache can be submerged from time to time.
Logged with permission of CO.
Arrived here and despite an exhaustive search we could not find this cache. Subsequent correspondence with the CO indicated we were in the right spot, but just no luck. Decision time, and I thought since it's a long way out here to not find a cache, I would plant a replacement.
This was done just after I placed one up at the nearby waterfall. On return from that we found the the boat was beached by at least another boat length, so suffered the indignity of rocking it along the sand back to the water, all in the presence of a launch full of tourists, a descending helicopter, and a couple of jet-skiers (who took pity and helped the last couple of metres). It's always busy when you look like an idiot.. And in the haste of all this I forgot to sign the new log. Oh well....TFTC KM.
Our day went something like this. Jo and I arrived at Picton at 0800 hours for a rendezvous with mates Andy and Russell. The plan was a trip to Blumine Island for a bit of photography and caching interspersed around a barbeque lunch on the beach.
All went to plan early on. The water was like glass and the wind absent - something that continued right through the day - and we made good time. On arrival we ran a line to shore while Andy and I headed out to drop the anchor, necessary as the tide was going out. Things went a bit pear-shaped here. The anchor dropped and the line immediately disintegrated. Fortunately enough of the rope was floating on the surface that we could retrieve the anchor, but as we tension tested the rope on shore, and it split regularly, we could see we had a problem. So a quick discussion, and plan B was implemented. Motuara Island then, for the bird life. Then Ship Cove for lunch, and a few bays on the way home along along the northern coast for a few caches and a walk. All up a great day. No further issues, good company and chat and plans hatched for future trips, TFTC to all COs.

Today we went with the boat from Picton to Ship Cove. Made the geocache there, and then walked along Queen Charlotte Track to Endevour Inlet for another cache. Back to Furneaux Lodge for the boat back to Picton. Tftcp
What a great place for a cache, the start of an awesome walk and a place in history. We were only doing a little bit of the walk and were delighted to find a cache in this fantastic cove. A fav for taking the trouble to put on in this location. TFTC
Came to Picton (from South Australia) on a mission to walk some of the Queen Charlotte Track.
Managed to pick a break in the weather and walked from Ship Cove to Ferneaux Lodge. Quite a nice hike.
Whilst at the cove, I found the cache and read up on JC's exploits.
Thanks for the cache, Kiwimykl

Replacement cache now in place after recent flood. We tried to put this in a place less vulnerable to the next flood but in keeping with the hint and at same GZ. Replacement done in liaison with CO. Nice little TB placed in cache.
I think it's AWOL... lots of flood debris under the bridge; I came by kayak and was alone (for 15 minutes before two boatloads full of people arrived!) so had a good search under the bridge.
We planed our trip to New Zealand for a long time and had four weeks for both islands. We enjoyed every minute of this journey and had great adventures. Of course we also found some caches on the way. For some more details please read the log of LSOEVE.

We spent 3 weeks in NZL for our holiday and visited both islands. I can't tell which spot was the most beautiful. The hole country was amazing and we had a really great time. Of course we had some time to look for some caches. After a boat tour through the sound we had some time to search this box and found it after quite a while. TFTC
A spontaneous stop and shipcove. Sadly was a DNF, we were unable to see anything under the beams but there has been a lot of rain and evident the creek has been high. Fingers crossed we just had a poor look and it hasn't been washed away. Will be back in summer for another look
Beautiful spot. Very soggy. Needs a new log I'll bring one out if I'm back in a month or so.

My first T5!
Yes, a boat is a convenient way to get here... but it is by no means required. I walked the Queen Charlotte Track from south to north, starting in Anakiwa and finishing here. I reached Ship Cove with an hour to spare, giving me time to visit this cache and the nearby waterfall before catching a water taxi back south.
There is water in the container. The log is dry for now, but the zip-lock bag and it is only a matter of time until moisture creeps in. Unfortunately, I had neither a spare zip-lock bag nor anything to dry the container with on me .
