A final check of GZ will be completed in on 22 Nov, however a new cache is in place, so all is good to go again.Cache on

Knew I was heading out this way so contacted the CO to see if they'd like the cache replaced. Yes was the reply, so my last stop our here today was to drop a new container and log in the same spot as the missing one. The hide still matches the hint so should still be an easy find. The old rattlers seem to have been there for a long time. Thanks for another UltimateGeoCacheTeam...over to you.
Found by caughtatwork on 01/11/2024 at 10:41:00 AMA great place for a find and now there may be two !Took nothing, left nothing. Thanks for placing this geocache here for us to find today, for without those who like to hide geocaches, there would be nothing around for those who like to find geocaches.*Overall Experience: 3*GAFF1

21 September 2024 @2:18pmThis was the only DNF for catnap777 and I on our entire weekend. This was day two of our assault on Lerderderg which had us making our way as far along Square Bottle Track as "Whiskey Creek Circuit...Worth Bottlin'" before heading back to the car and then headed further south for a bit of a go at Ah Kow Track on the other side of Mt Blackwood. It was a ripper day that started back in Hepburn Springs (where we had spent the night) looking over a couple of Earth Caches there, before making our way to Lerderderg for another walk in the park. We were a bit worried about the shaky start with what was supposed to be a parkngrab at the Red Rattlers, but all others along this track (all the way down to the river) were found in good condition.
21 September 2024 14:18Here with dalerious and we had a greater challenge in front of us.We noticed the previous dnf's but decided to stop and have a quick look.Unless it is buried under quite a bit of dirt and pine needles in the fork of the tree, it looks like this one might well be gone. Thanks anyway mudbrick and UltimateGeoCacheTeam.
Unfortunately 5 sets of eyes searching all over the place could not find the cache at all, even with a hint that is very clear. We did find remnants of what used to be inside the cache that were buried in the leaf litter in the form of the tree, but that was it.
Thanks UltimateGeoCacheTeam for placing this cache and contributing to this great game. What a shame the old rattlers are so dilapidated, I’ve seen these refurbished back to new… certainly brought back wonderful memories of travelling to the big smoke on school holidays. Thanks for bringing me here, out and about with the Geopup and ConnieandRick. Happy trails, Deanside
A great day out with deanside, this was one of only a few I managed to spot first. Loved the theme.

After a big day trekking around Lerderderg, it was now time to head for home but I had to made a stop here first, seeing that I was driving right passed it.
The cache was found without any trouble and I was on my way.

Very unique cache container super cool location - I was extremely fascinated by this relic - its unfortunate that it gotten to the state its in. I went on to walk part of nearby trail after finding this cache a trail I highly recommend. Fav point for location.
Train carriages were a surprise to see in this beautiful location, and the lovely deep shade of old cypres pines provided welcome relief from the sun. A very enjoyable stop, thank you.
The Trip
I think the stars have finally aligned for a two night trip, caching and camping along the Great Dividing Range. It seems that every time i have planned a caching trip in the last six months something has come up to thwart my plans or cut my trip short. I have high hopes that this week it will be perfect.
I started at Moorabool Reservoir and will be collecting caches from there in the direction of Riddells Creek although i have a lot to find so am unlikely to make it that far. The weather is glorious and there is a cool lilt in the air which makes for a pleasant change from home, and the shady forests are vibrant.
Champagne caching!

Wow the rattler nearby is really cool. Derelict but mysterious and random to be out here. This cache hasn't been found for a long time but the log is all good. Tftc
As I missed a good spot to pull over this morning, I made shore not to the second time past, otherwise I may have spat the dummy. TFTC.
Having a day out in the Lederderg Forest and collecting a few caches while i enjoy this area This was my first cache for the day and I approached with some trepidation as the tree had suffered damage in the recent storm. Luckily all was well with the cache Thanks mudbrick
When we had just grabbed the cache and were signing it, the owner of the rattlers came and said hello. Asked us if we wanted them! He said there are lots of cool things scratched into the back of the seats. Apparently heritage people have been through and had a look but there’s not a lot they can do. Thanks for bringing us to this area, it’s been a truly wonderful day! Also, check out the little fairy garden just down from the trains. It’s totally worth a visit. TFTC
Wow what an awesome place, the animals are so friendly around here it's amazing to see this thankyou, cache is in good condition
TFTC - great spot to start a 14km hike. Love the old red rattler carriages, wish they were in better order.
Tftc. Beautiful day to be out and about. This was our last cache for the day. Spent a couple of minutes looking around and in the wrong tree by the gate. Nope try the other gate or maybe we were just tired after our days hike to the waterfall cache and back. Cool train. I wonder how it got there....
What an odd spot for these train cars. There seems to be a lot of old wrecks around here. Tftc
A great advantage when you farm out caches (adopt them), is that you can refind them, I had a good chinwag with the owner, adjacent to the cache, he knew the first two in the series were there, but he thought that they were part of a drug dealing setup.I enlightened him.
Thank you UltimateGeoCacheTeam for the cache.
Thank you UltimateGeoCacheTeam for the cache.
I love caching! Checking out spots like this is exactly why I do this. Can’t wait to come back and do rest of the Ah Kow track. TFTC
After attending two events at Pikes Res today i had plans to kayak there afterwards to find some of the mystery caches hidden around there. But with the weather turning nasty i had this small series of caches recommended to me to find instead.
I found the first three or four in order before deciding to head straight to the last one in case the rain set in then work my way back to the car. It was at the last cache i met up with Alansee and we then teamed up and headed back together.
A great series of caches, loved the novelty cache companions and the play on words in the titles. Thx mudbrick for placing and to the UltimateGeoTeam for maintaining. Cheers!

Found a bit of spare time today so I thought I would use it productively and find a few caches.
I caught a few of these to school in the the late 70’s. I’m now showing my age.
I even managed to catch the ones that that still had compartments in them.
Thanks mudbrick & UltimateGeoCacheTeam TFTC.

A nice easy find, and a clever theme of cache with the nearby train carriages. The trains brought back a lot of childhood memories. Thanks for the hide.
Oh it is amazing what is hidden just around the bend. A great place thanks for bring us here.
Was out this way chasing a nearby FTF and figured I may as well collect a few more smileys to make the 2.5 hour round trip worth it. Given it was dark by this stage drive by’s were high on the agenda. This suited perfectly, easily done in the dark but still a very cool location. Spotted a wombat on the side of the road on approach to GZ, fortunately it remained a safe distance from the GeoVehicle. Will have to return to check this one out in the daylight with the family. TFTC, a FP for highlighting this spot.
We decided to head out for New Year and explore, we found ourselves in this area, and couldn't resist seeing if we could add a smile or two, The youngest member of our team loved these Rattlers and spent time exploring them as much as he could, we look forward to be able to return to see if we can add more smiles one day Thanks for the cache, and for the fun.
We feel that with a lot of money they could be restored, yes, it is a shame to see them sit here so neglected. SL TFTC
Peter and Muddy, thanks for this simple little cache. The old carriages seem to have seen better days, but were an interesting stopover.
I knew that I had found the series of caches starting here and to my surprise, hadn't logged them, so I am sincerely sorry for the logs being almost 3 years old.

Gave it a good go, but with the neighbours looking out their windows I might have to come back. Hope it's still there, wasn't in the places I thought it might be
Here are the very old and weather beaten rafters. But what a nostaglic and beautiful site. CIGC TNLN TFTC
Found with Aluphrii today. What a peaceful spot! Such a delight to come round the bend and see the red rattlers. Thank you.

After some caching along the Razorback track I made my way south to look for the only unfound caches I still have in the Lerderderg SP - 5 caches along the Ah Kow track!
But before that I had to stop for this one, which I had missed when caching along this track more than 2 years ago. GZ was not where or what I was expecting - a real Mudbrick surprise!
Thanks, UltimateGeoCacheTeam.

There's no room left on the log. Sorry we didn't have any paper to add to it.

Well, well, I was thinking snakes, scary. I haven't seen these rattlers for years. Spent quite a while poking around, investigating this piece of history. When I was a kid and had to wear a hat home from school, it went out the window of one of these, Mum was not impressed. TFTC
Out for the day with Mrs Juc to visit some spots we've both wanted to go to and with the added bonus of being allowed to grab some caches. Today's destination was Lergerderg Gorge and wow, the caches we did certainly didn't disappoint ! A range of hides, some walking, some drive-bys, but all good fun.
A short detour off the main road was well worth it here. A quick find of the quirky container, sign the log and then admire the quietly decaying carriages. I used to ride the old red rattler down to Port melbourne to go fishing as a young nipper. Great times on these old trains. Sad to see them slowly rotting away.
Thanks for the cache Mudbrick !

Find #1224. Very interesting. How does one obtain such a unique piece of 'art'? The cache container is very cute. Thanks mudbrick for a fun cache.
Suscoe decided to have a day out in the Bacchus Marsh and beyond regions today. It was a pleasant day, cool to mild with a bit of cloud covering the sky for most of the day.
At least it was dry and we did enjoy our wanderings here and there.
We like this part of the world but sadly don't get up this way often enough.
The roads were pretty quiet today all the way around from home back to home again.
This was our first find and it was quick which was appreciated.
Thanks to mudbrick for this hide, first find of many of yours for the day.

Well this was first of a big day in Lerderderg.
So interesting to see a piece of manufacturing just rotting away in the middle of a country landscape.
I admired a little and then went in for a quick find before departing.
Nicely done.

Our first cache up here - thanks for bringing us to such a great spot! Easy find, lots of fun stuff for kids here. Already lots of swaps, took nothing but left toy. Log signed and returned with cover. Cheers!
On the way to another Lerderderg adventure with Team Justice and some other friends... stopped here on the way to see the old red rattlers. Ah, the memories. Would likely never have known of these except for the caching! Love this hobby - TFTC.
What a strange way to make a fence of old train carriages. It seemed a little surreal to see these coaches here. Thanks for the interesting spot, and nice cache container!

It is such a shame that they are rotting away as there must not be many left after the nearly restored one at Newport Rail Workshop recently destroyed by fire .

Travelling around Australia and we are currently staying in Woodend.
Well with fine weather forecast we decided to head out towards Blackwood.
Another great day using Geocaching as our guide. Such a lovely area, a really great day.
We found this one together after Mr Felix completed the Ah walk. Wow this didn't disappoint either.
Awesome definite fave too.
See the huge holes under the rattlers that we assume the wombats are causing!

Today was my monthly caching run with Biggles Bear, and the area today was around Mt Blackwood. The bulk of the caches were along a couple of great walks, with a few extras around Bacchus Marsh at the end. This was the first find of the day. In my younger days, I caught the train home from secondary school, and Monday to Thursday was always a red rattler. See these in their sad condition brought back memories of those days.
My thanks to mudbrick for the cache and showing me these relics.

Today I was caching with the geokids (aged 4 & 6) around Myrniong. We didn't think we would get this far but as the kids were keen we kept going. We easily found the cache and the kids were super excited. So much colour! A few small swaps were made and we went on to explore the trains which were totally awesome! We made friends with a monkey and then on the way back we stopped for a car to pass. It was one of the locals and her horse had come to say hello. She allowed us to pat him and feed him grass. Just a fab experience in three different ways at this location so a fav from us. Many thanks
Found 9:46:00 AM, found in the company of Muzza, during our regular monthly caching expedition. This month we chose to head out into the wild of the Lerderdeg State Park and environs to collect some of the caches there.
