Well, a cache that has been on our to do list for a very long time was finally marked off today after a bit of an adventure.
We approached the main track from the top, coming down Rocky Link track, which did say 4WD track only, easy no problem….rutted out, greasy, slimy red clay made for some slick tyres. In two parts Mrs H, Finley & the Ez boys hightailed out of the car and left Big Ez solo.
What a rare gem to find in the bush, still in fantastic conditions and has clearly stood the rest of time. Amazing to think how and who it was used by all those years ago, who was in the area. The stories that could be told. Love a hidden gem in the bush.
Mrs H,of course, slipped on the wet grass and hit the ground on the way down to the cache, a few blackberry scratches to add to the caching wounds. Good times.
Thanks for a great sized cache here Daz and a super spot to highlight. Cheers

Out and about around Yak today grabbing a few solved mystery caches and a few trads.
What an awesome spot, well worth the battle through the blackberries. So much history around here
Gz was covered and overgrown. So took a little bit to find.

Brad has visited this area twice before and each time has picked up at least a couple of the Nutty caches and the brilliant 4WD WIG. . This time he is with Janet who is the finder par excellence once at GZ.
This one was a surprise. Amazing place to find so well preserved. However there has been a lot of blackberry growth recently. Ouch.
TFTC
A challenging drive today up and down hills of various steepness given the recent and current rain and the All Terrain tyres rather than Mud tyres on the LC200. Only a little panel damage today. Brad enjoyed showing Janet the various gold mining relics that we passed.
Another quick find by Janet as
TFCT yet again The lost wanderers
Brad&Janet are on a two week trip from Adelaide to the Victorian High Country. While this is not primarily a caching trip there are a few specific targets along the way. Including a challenging remote area unloved puzzle cache placed in 2014 and never previously found.
Omeo will be the initial base. Brad has ridden his bike through the high plains region a couple of times while doing the Three Peaks Challenge, and is looking looking forward to exploring by 4WD this time.
On the way home the plan is to visit Yackandandah and the Nine Mile Creek Historic area and also Mansfield and the surrounding region. Then spend some days in and around Bendigo and Clunes so Janet and her sister can research a few of their ancestors who lived there in the mid 1800s. Brad may take the opportunity to visit the Ballarat Geotour while the research is happening.

A quick find out with Stemicmitsar today caching out and around Yackandandah. With our main goal of the day being the 4WD Wherigo, which was successful and a lot of fun, we managed to pick up several caches along the way and on the way home.
A great day out in this corner of the state. Thanks for the cache and the adventure.

*Cache find # 11331.*
While on tour doing the 4X4 Wherigo cache, we arrived at this one.
From the road, we looked down and thought, really we have to go down there, I went one way and Michael went the other and found a track, well that makes it a lot better, it was followed and the cache was found shortly after.
**Thanks to DazRascal for placing this cache.**

This is exactly why we love caching. We would have never known this was here not what it was used for without the placing of the cache. A definite favourite for us. Thanks for the cache and bringing us here.
This is what caching is all about. This was a great place to bring us to. Thanks for showing us this and also explaining what it is and how it worked/was used. Thanks for the cache.
Day five of Beechworth camping road trip with Papi4506, Geoturtle37 & RoamingHowie, working our way through various must-dos.
Stopped by to check out this amazing spot. Another real case of I’d not have seen this/been here had it not been for geocaching. Awesome!
Fav point heading your way.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache, DazRascal

Day #3 for me of the cache adventure with OzHockeyChick, GeoTurtle37 and Papi4506. Today we are off to hopefully complete the 4X4 wherigo.
Papi4506 called out that we were passing this en route for the 4X4 adventure. So glad we stopped. Great to see this hidden away part of history,
Thanks DazRascal for the cache.

Wow, what a journey. But gee it was worth it. Should have come in from another way though.
Great 4WD track! Excellent cache with interesting items not sure about the teeth pic but whatever haha. Love that we would never have seen the oven otherwise!
#3587 We continued down the spur from the previous cache, the peaceful surrounds of the bush temporarily interrupted by a couple of unregistered trail bike riders traveling the opposite direction. The knees and thighs were happy to reach the bottom of the 4WD track! Didn't seem to concern our 14.5 and 12 year old geohounds.
We were looking forward to seeing the oven and this did not disappoint. Expertly and carefully built. The brickwork just perfect, no wonder it has lasted all these years. Love visiting local history such as this, especially when it is largely still in tact. TFTC and discovering and sharing this great spot DazRascal, a fave from us. Cache in great condition.
Oh no, that's right, the car is way up there...

This cache and the one up the hill a bit,
took me on a very interesting tour of this historical area
Highlight of the tour has to be this oven.
As you said it is in good nick for being hidden so well in the scrub
Close by I found the cache,
which is in as good nick as the oven [^]
A few people must be visiting this spot,
as there is quite a clear track running down through the blackberries [:o]

What an amazing spot - can’t believe they have built that here. Would have taken a while to find the cache without the clue but the walk back up rocky track will be worth it - TFTC
I don’t really know what to say about the caches we did in this area today, except the four wheel driving was great fun, the trip was fraught with disaster (cache notes may have comments such as “**** hit the fan” multiple times) the caches were all in excellent spots AND we came out alive and well, which is the most important part, given our cache notes! Thank you for placing the cache and giving us a reason to go out four wheel driving today DazRascal
What a well preserved structure. We located the cache exactly where our GPS indicated. Thanks DazRascal, interesting area.
The blackberries here are going to make access level D5 soonish Found with Justjessie, TFTC.
Out grabbing some caches while doing the 4x4 wherigo, with some geo family and friends. This was a great spot to stop and explore.

In the area and off the beaten track grabbing a few caches while tackling the 4wd wherigo and managed to make a quick find. Plenty of blackberry for sure in the area but caused little concern when heading into the gz. Thanks DazRascal for highlighting this old relic of the past and the cache.

Awarding this one a fave for highlighting this fantastic area / feature and for getting us together as a family and ensuring a fantastic day out for all. An amazing day with much fun and laughter and some terrible jokes and puns throughout.

While doing a whereigo with snap happy, happy pants, happy feet and omegaman, we decided to do some traditional caches. Not quite knowing where we were going, I eventually found my way and discovered the cache
Found this very interesting cache after a weekend volunteering at Kangaloola Wildlife shelter in Yackandandah. Left trackable TN TFTC
Went for a family drive to begin our Geocaching adventure and this was our first ever find. Have driven past this spot more than a dozen times and never knew this piece of history was here. Thank you for opening our eyes.
Wow. Can't believe you: a) found this, and b) re-found it! Sounds of the forest were lovely as I signed the log book. Thanks for bringing me here.
Found today with some guidance of local expertise while exploring the area and the old mining sites. Forgot my bag of trades and travel bug. Logged our visit.
Out and about in the lovely Yackandandah area doing a local 4x4 wherigo and taking the opportunity to pick up some trads at the same time.
Thanks DazRascal for the exercise and showing us this little treasure.

Found the oven with relative ease after a short bush search. There is a car park pull off spot right nearby. My wife Heidi spotted the cache. Kids had a great day out, though couldn't convince them to get in the oven for a photo.
Called past with 2 mates, managed to drive to within 100m despite the rain. A great thing to come across in the bush, so dropped off a TB I happened to have.... then went and explored the nearby mines
[:(!] Went for a caching run for a couple of hours after lunch and this was on of them, parked the geocar as close as possible to GZ and walked in from there, on arrival at GZ the cache was located and it was quickly in hand.

I've had this cache on the to do list for some time, have even driven past it with out realizing. So when our convoy on the four wheel drive where-i-go pulled up here i was more than happy. What an amazing find this is, the kiln is the last thing you would expect to find in this part of the bush.

Find #4180
A beautiful day today, it was part of the 4x4 adventure day. We were a convoy of five 4WD vehicles. We managed to convince our driver Jason to stop at several spots to pick up a couple of solved puzzles as well as some Traditionals.
It really is surprising what you find out in the bush!! A stream of cachers headed down the hill to this one. Nice easy find, Love these containers.

Well done DazRascal in finding a spot to hide a cache of regular size. This spot definitely has the wow factor and is well worth stopping by to check out such a defining piece of history. It wouldn't take much to refurbish the oven and crank out some wood-fire pizzas although you will probably be short on customers.

Such an interesting structure, and love the story behind it on the cache page. Again, this was with the 4WD Wherigo group who found it before I'd even stumped down the track. Thanks to Keira001, kmace and The2Wanderers for their encouragement from up high. Ha ha ha. Such a fun day, and another great cache on the way.
Wow what a hidden treasure. wouldn't know it was there if not for caching. TFTC
Found with the huge group doing the joint FTF on the wherigo. A great little spot and an easy find after finding and losing the track on the way down. It's always easier heading back though.
Thanks Daz for highlighting this kiln, and apologies for the late logging.

On the first day of the Yackandandah "Camp and Cache" Event a few carloads of intrepid cachers headed to be 'heard from again' while doing a 4wd Wherigo. A lot of fun, and I'm glad I didn't try to take my Nissan Dualis on those tracks.
We walked carefully down, and with quite a few looking the cache was soon in hand. Dry and intact. Good coordinates - but I had left my CSMs back at camp.
Type #2 of six found today - BARGAIN.

This cache was also found in the company of the Four-Wheel-IGO enthusiasts. What a fascinating oven, a special thanks to Bogonghazy who ventured forth with my pen.
Found as part of the group assault on the new Where-I-Go....
Once parked up the top, a few of us climbed down to the kiln, checked it out and then found the cache. Once the log was signed, it was back up the hill and back into the cars for the next section.

What an amazing thing out there in the bush so well preserved.
Love these kind of caches that take you to interesting things.

I approached from the top road and only had to walk in 40 or so mtrs and there it was.
Lots of blackberries & scratchy things but well worth it.

Amazing find in the bush! Only geocaching would have me walking with 2 small boys in a seemingly random direction from a perfectly good road! TFTC
This is another place that we would never have known about or been to if not for geocaching. Thanks for bringing us here Daz.
Cruising around the bush doing a bit of 4 x 4 driving and I took the opportunity to ask the driver to take me up to this cache. I don't have a car that can do that anymore SO we were having a bit of fun and I managed to secure another smilie Good and interesting spot that was very enjoyable to spend a bit of time. Just as i got the cache back and a group of motorbikes came roaring up the hill bashing themselves around. One of the middle riders came a gutsa too, poor fella! Thanks for the fun 'dazRascal'
After a slow start to our caching day, we left the micro's behind and headed to the hills for "some proper caching".
Everything about this cache was fantastic, from the creek crossing, to the slippery tracks, the short bush walk and the final GZ.
This is what we cache for, and it is fully deserving of the fav point we are giving it.
Loved the area around the GZ and spent 30mins exploring the general area, finding broken bottles and pieces of metal of unknown origin.
We took lots of pictures for GeoTillys home work on Structures before the fading light meant we had to leave.
The cache was a quick find and in in great condition. Thanks for bringing us here and we fully intend to return to explore some more.
While doing a bit of research on the goldfields of Victoria I stumbled across a sketch and a description of a Reverbatory Furnace that looks almost exactly the same as the one found here.
I have included the picture and description here and hope that this adds to peoples enjoyment of this great cache.
This furnace was commonly used to roast gold-bearing sands or mineral concentrates prior to chlorination. The sands were spread thinly over a flat hearth, and the fire lit (left). Heat passed over the hearth, deflecting off the low ceiling and roasting the sands. The object of roasting was to remove sulphur from mineral contained in the sands, which would otherwise interfere with gold recovery processes.

#4451 No doubt this would have took some finding as the area has some intense regrowth. We continued along the track and it is indeed tight with regrowth in places - our Triton has much bush pinstriping though so it was of no consequence to us. In fact we've been along tracks with much tighter regrowth so we didn't think it too bad in the scheme of things. Pre-caching we spent a great deal of time around the gold areas and this was a very interesting location. We weren't sure how to approach but we found a suitable place to park and walked up around the corner where the foliage was less dense and soon spotted the kiln. Thanks for bringing us here DazRascal. Cheers.
Found in the company of Bingley 3683. Enjoyed our lunch around the communal oven. TN Left tumbled stone. TFTC
Amazing thing to come across in the bush - so well preserved! Came on a days bushwalk with TeamMVB - we parked at the corner of Lower Nine Mile Rd and Jenkins Tk and did the circuit in an anti-clockwise direction - maybe the best way to get to this if you only have a 2WD......

I had just logged a cache up the road and was heading back to the car when I spotted this one on the radar only a few hundred meters away. Oh when I say up the road I really mean up the in some parts nearly vertical road. Which means this cache is a really long way down and the car is now a long, long, LONG way back up. Me thinks I went the five star way, oh what we put ourselves through for Tupperware.
Well after stumbling very cautiously down the incline I went bush for the last few meters and was greeted with the sight of this wonderful old oven/kiln. They must have been a hardy bunch back then, to get all the gear in to put this together, amazing. Time and the elements haven’t been to kind to it though as there are quite a few bricks lying around. It would have been great to see without all the vegetation on it. The GPS was doing a merry little dance, so I sat it and myself down for a rest in the hope it would settle. After about ten minutes I tried again but it was still being silly and taking me everywhere but GZ. I started to increase the search area but by this time the sun was going behind the hill and daylight was fading fast. Twenty minutes more searching and I was going to have to resign myself to a DNF oh the horror…..Finally the proper location was found and the cache was very gratefully in hand. I was tempted to take the torch that was in the cache as it was getting darker by the minute but luckily I had one in the pack. Put the cache back and tucked it in nicely and then started the hike/climb back to the car………..Hmmmm now let’s see which way point did I park the car at.

Wow! we weren't expecting to pick up a First to Find on our sojourn to the North East Caches! Having driven up from our Whitfield camp to lunch at the Beechworth Bakery, we headed off to find a couple of local caches when old friends Harrowang had this cache appear on their fancy ipod techno. So we abandoned the cache in hand and made slow haste to Bake Me a Bar of Gold. Missed a turn and had to follow a s-l-o-w detour, thought it best to stop at the Public toilets in town first, oh no, there's always someone forty years younger way ahead of us back home! Checked the tracks at each turn, believed the misleading signs, settled on following the contour...oh heck.. at least we made it in before the crowds! Our second FTF, slept well that night! Took camera bag and Left Pathtag. Thanks for the challenge and the thrill Dazrascal.
Shared this FTF with our long-time friends and fellow cachers, MarknDee. We found two parking spaces on the Lower Nine Mile Rd and went bush from there. Quite an adventure really as it took us down into the valley across the Creek and up the other side to the cache and then the Oven. Probably wasn't quite a terrain 5, because all four of us managed to walk, stumble, or slide along a wombat track most of the way and did not need any winches or abseiling gear to arrive safely at GZ. Mrs Harrowang spotted the wonderful ammo can in the bush before examining the very well preserved oven a little further along. Both teams SL at 4pm and we took some photos to prove we made it alive and well although a little scratched by the blackberries that are encroaching the area once more. Took: IPhone cover Left: world globe and appropriate PT. Walked back to our vehicles by a much easier route and a much easier creek crossing. #1487 TFTC DazRascal our 2nd FTF for today and quite enough excitement to last us until next weekend!! Markndee headed back to Whitfield via some more NE caches, and we headed home to Wangaratta tired, but happy.
Wow. Looks really interesting Daz - not going out for it now but will some day soon. I love these sorts of caches.
