Some of the trees have been cut down, but with a bit of perservence they're through where the tree's used to be.Brilliant cache regardless.
A full day of work in Invercargill and then dinner with the parents. Heading back to my accommodation for the night and thought probably should get a cache for today. A bit dark and a bit cold. Then remembered I hadn't yet found this night cache. Quickly parked up and made my way over to the starting point. At this stage I looked around and around, then just to satisfy my curiosity looked around again but no sign of the first light. Arrgh I thought, maybe my torch wasn't strong enough. Did a bit more looking around and then suddenly that first glint and I was off. No issues from then on as all the subsequent beacons lit up and showed me the way. Ground was starting to crisp up with a bit of frost but was well wrapped up nice and warm. Soon had what was required in my hands and cache signed and replaced.
A great little night cache with all the required reflectors present and easily found (well at least after I found the first one). Have done (or attempted) a number of night caches where this hasn't been so. Gets a favourite from me. Now off to do a quick bit of work before bed tonight.

I love a well executed night cache and this works well. Thanks for the nocturnal trip. The bird calls were amazing too. Not cold in the slightest either.
TFTC our first night time cache great idea fav from us we started on dusk so not pitch black but easy to see the reflectors I sure I it’s a lot easier when it’s fully dark
Fav from us for the great idea of a reflector cache we enjoyed the walk

I did this a bit over a year ago but was unable to access the log sheet. The CO promptly dealt with the problem and messaged me but I was on my way back to Dunedin by the time I saw the message. Today with the same torch and same batteries I did the new trail. I had problems at one spot. Old batteries and not been properly dark didn't help but I continued on in the general direction and soon picked the trail up again. Just towards the end there was one that the top and bottom of the fire tack was curled so little og the surface was showing. After that you could see up to three ahead. Thanks for keeping this going.
Late night at the movies so decided to do this one at last. Been meaning to do it for ages. Managed not to fall over in the dark. Cheers.
Heading down to Invercargill for 4 days of work, be rude not to grab a few caches along the way!
For some reason, I was wide awake at 4am.... I went for a walk, with my torch specifically for this cache. Had no issues and finding the cache. I really like night caches... A good majority of my finds have all been at night, I was a nightshift worker for most of the last 16 years.. Thanks for the placement!!
TFTC southlandicebergs, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 1 find(s) of 11 today, making this find #2972

If we could double heart / favourite this cache we would. Our kids absolutely loved this cache. What a fun way to explore!! Thanks for bringing us on this journey.
The big trees are to be cut down starting next week so I will be removing the reflectors. I am aiming to reestablish a trail in the area when things settle down.
The club was out about caching for some members to complete geocaching honour requirements.
With the CO, firekitten, geoman.
Finding this before it gets archived with lots of trees chopped.
JC. We looked for trees with little metal pieces.
AR. We shined light on trees following trail to the cache.
RV. We tried to stay together shining light on tree reflectors. Found the container.
Tftc in excellent condition. The CO said it may not be totally archived but possibly modified dodging the big trees. So it will be definitely be disabled tomorrow.

This cache will be only available for several more days as the Parks people are starting to remove most of the old Macrpaca trees starting on the 12th July. So as some time most probably Thursday this week this cache will be archived.
Just in case you are going for it tonight container has been removed for some sanding so it can be slid out without needing a chisel. Should be back in place tomorrow evening.
This was fun with no problems with a torch that had its first use this morning in Gore. The cache was found but there has been a bit of creep over time with the hint object over 2 metres away. I had to roll it to try and extract the cache which remained firmly in placed. Not the first time I've been thwarted by swollen wood. The other time was in Christchurch and I finally accessed the log book about 2.5 years later.
Cache 665 got up early this morning while it was still dark to finally knock this one off the list, been looking forward to it for a while was fun following the trail through the trees lost my way a couple of times but with my super bright torch soon spotted another marker, tripped over a few sticks and stuff on the ground due to light fog but it made for a fun adventure, but I have to admit it was a little nerve wracking doing it as a solo female for the safety side of things. Got to the double marker and searched for a while without much luck, so had to look at the hint which made it nice and easy, well hidden cache in excellent condition really enjoyed this so awarding a fave point T4TP
I always enjoy doing "night" caches. But today I did this at 6:30 in the morning. It was still nice and dark and I had no problem finding all the reflectors. And the final hide was pretty nifty too. Cheers and TFTC
*Another good find.
Nice day going from cache to cache with woolwood9.*

Great fun night cache, seemed to go on and on!
Got to the end and struggled until we checked the hint - very tricky hide!

Out tonight with wombats_4, Spoonz2 and Debsnz. Managed to find our way along and found found the cache after a short search at GZ. Lucky it didn’t take too long to find as it started raining as we got back to our vehicles. Tftc
After the event today we arranged with a small group to meet and find this night cache. Always fun finding caches in the dark, and of course Debsnz and I hadn’t brought torches. With Wilbywarrior and Wombat_4 we followed the trail to GZ with only minimal stumbles along the way. Thanks for placing this.
My first night cache done and dusted, along with the company of Wilbywarrior, Debsnz and spoonz2 after a fun afternoon at the local Community Celebration, where I received a goodie bag containing a wee torch! Very appropriate for this adventure and a surprisingly bright beam to capture the reflectors. Good one Ruru After a bit of weaving and ducking and a few stumbles got to the final GZ, 4 sets of eyes had no trouble quickly spying the hidey hole. Log signed then a retreat to the cars with a few light spots of rain beginning to fall. Enjoyed night caching and can't wait to do more, I'll have some local company for the Dunedin ones now tftc SIB
Absolutely amazing! Went back today during daylight after following the lights in the storm the other night. TFTC! Definitely a fav for the whole family.
Was such a weird but awesome feeling walking through the trees at night. We got about 3/4 way through when we saw a weird flash of light followed by a ridiculously long crack of thunder moments before it starting pouring down with rain. It was a quick two minute search around the area before the rain got heavier. It was a long jog back to the car. We hadn’t even realised how far we had walked because it was so fun searching. Unfortunately we did not find it however will be back on a night with the forecast of clear weather.
Nailed it.
Awesum hunt great hide.
The smell of coal smoke was a added bonus. ( I love steam engines)

I had looked at this nightcache and thought I probably would not get a chance to do it, as the torch I had bought with me to Invercargill was not fit for purpose (fine for shining on the ground, but to project and find fire tacks, no way!).
Thankfully some more Westies are staying nearby, and I get an invite to join them at 7.45pm to find the cache. Now this is when I also found out about the Tuatara that are in the old museum building, so of course I had to stop and admire them, before joining the others (sorry guys).
So here I am with merlot58 and pazza2 walking around this amazing park in the dark
We seemed to be doing really well spotting the markers, can not say how long it took us, but eventually we ended up where we needed to be
With the cache located, and log signed, this will probably be last caching group adventure for awhile.
Thanks for creating this nightcache southlandicebergs, always love doing these, and perfect timing too, as it had been newly re-enabled

There's a lot of work involved in setting up a night cache and we could see this one was no exception. I'm soo glad we got to do this as group of 4 caching Westies just before Lock Down came into place and we had to head home. Lots of walkers around, well, what else could anyone do now? We appreciated having something fun to do, instead of worrying about what the future held. Thanks for all your hard work southlandiceburgs!
I'm finally home and in lockdown so am able to catch up with my logging from our recent visit to Stewart Island. We had managed to get off the island but couldn't get a flight back to Ak for 2 days so we decided to collect some caches in the area we were staying. We were ecstatic to see this had just been reenabled so met up with a fellow Westie who was also trying to get home to do this night cache and had no trouble meandering around the park in the dark. Murphy's Law that a muggle would walk past just as we were extracting the cache but a big show of tying shoe laces would have put them off the scent. Thanks for the fun

Hi Folks, thanks for your patience. I have added another 100m or so to this night cache to make it not just a great night cache but the ultimate night cache. Just got to tidy up the ends and the middle...give it a test run and then liven it up.
Was at work fixing a blocked coal auger for the heating boiler at 2 am today so on way home after the fix had a fresh battery in dolphin torch so knowing there may be a missing reflector or two here gave it a go to see how things were. Not good not sure how the odd person gets to the end. This needs work. Possible an extension will occur.
So disabling to fix it.

I really enjoy night caches so was looking forward to having a go at this one. I brought a new torch earlier especially because the one I keep in my handbag wasn't up to the job for one in Dunedin a few nights ago. Followed the reflectors one by one and then crossed a drive - knew that was wrong so backtracked until I was on the trail again and it was a quick find after that. Excellent hide. An easy favourite for the whole package thanks southlandicebergs. TFTC # 12,498
This seems like a super fun idea but sadly partner and I couldn't find the reflectors!!
Had brought the 190 lumen head torch to do this one and managed to get part way along before the reflectors just disappeared. Tried searching further on but couldn't pick up any more so not sure what has happened over winter since the last find.
Burning up a bit of time geocaching before we fly home today. Nice place here at Queens park. Decided to take the extra challenge of doing the night cache in the day time. Favorite point from us.
Found after Guides with another leader on a dot day. As others have said - at least one is overgrown and we missed one or two as the 4 one we found couldn't possibly be seen from the 3rd one found. We even tried to work backwards to see where our #4 could be seen from and concluded that it has probably gone.
Nice weekend hide and a smilie for a dot day.
Thanks
Nice weekend hide and a smilie for a dot day.
Thanks
Ho ho possums everywhere I shone the torch searching for the little things. Got to a spot on the trail and stalled, help ? what now? A scampering furry rascal made a run for it and I followed it with the light and caught the last two. Nice ruse. Found the cache soon after and SL. TFTC
Fantastic cache! Clever hiding spot, got a little lost after the first two points, but found in the end! TFTC!!
Found reflectors 1, 2 and 4 but no others.walked on in the same general direction but saw nothing. I think some of the reflectors may have been overgrown.
Sadly the container gone and the place it was tucked away has got too big. Will have to find another suitable place in the GZ
Having found an iPhone torch did not cut the mustard, went and got batteries for my mag light. Come back and spent ages looking for a reflector. Finally found the first one and after losing the trail a bit further up came across the two reflectors. Unfortunately could not find cache at base of the tree, even on coming back the next day. Suspect it's been mugged? Will wait to see if someone else is able to find it. A shame as this was a really fun geocache.
Found with Tuitigger on 13/8/16. Apologies for the late log. Very chilly night, this was my first night cache! TFTC
Found on a cold frosty night with SearchWisely. My "emergency torch that hasn't been used in a while" was running flat, which made life a wee bit trickier. Better to find that out now, instead of in an emergency. Once original coordinates were found and then the size of reflectors known, we easily found, apart from losing the trail slightly towards the end. Thanks, our first night time cache.
Been a great day catching caches... thought this was my 101st, but realised I logged 1 twice. Happy this masterpiece was my 100th.
Felt it was time to search out my old filmcan . I didn't have a wery good torch but found the wery little things easily after the initial one was a bit north of where I first started looking. I kept getting distracted by the little balls of resin that caught the flashlight everywhere. Grabbed the con, lost my pen . . . . . somewhere?!? . . . . so cache went with me to do the shopping. Added a bagged spare logbook and signed the log. Returned to hide in the pouring rain. Goodbye little filmcan & TFTC Last Town cache dusted.
In Invercargill for business and I had some time in the evening for night caching and what better way to spend some of that time by finding the night cache near my hotel! Planning to hunt for this cache, I brought along both of my trusty MagLite flashlights, and, as usual, they were up to the task. I initially missed the final location, but after doubling back I spotted it after a more thorough search. I always enjoy night caches so I was quite happy to have laid this one to rest. TFTC! #1058
We always enjoy a night cache and this one was on our list of 'must find' when in Invercargill. We had a perfect night for it - dark by 6pm and warm with no one else about. We found the first marker quickly and then we quickly moved on to the next and the next and . . . . eventually spied the double markers and it wasn't long before the final was in hand. Found with Aoraki Sheep.
We've found a few night caches before so knew what we were looking for. We lost the trail after the second marker and scouted around abit with no luck. We had to retraced our steps and then followed on in the direction we thought most likely. Sure enough the next marker was spotted and after that it was easy enough to follow . Found with debsnz
Really nice cache. We didn't find all the reflectors, but keep going and you'll find one of the next. Went a bit too far first, but after a closer look it wasn't too difficult to find the last rwo reflectors and the cache.
staying up late so I could complete this. Persuaded partner in coming too. Not surprisingly it was him that found it, right after declaring it wasn't anywhere! Very enjoyable. even though we couldn't follow all markers. Found it after a bit of guess work. TFTC
container replcaed witha rust proof one aka 35mm film container (thanks to Lionsvlambs leaving in another of mine in the park)
on a walk doing the rounds. could not open so need to replace container.
Tftc - second time looking for the trail - took a bit of back tracking but found the cach
At last I found it had a little help from a friend I was looking for much larger reflectors but was easier when I realized how little they were and it wasn't raining this time. Thank you.
Miserable wet night and all the birch trees were wet and looked like they had long strip of reflection paint on them. My map said I was right on it but could not see the reflector.
Tricky, needed to get low find the trail again due to branches a combined effort with mr potty and Anytar
My third attempt, iphone torch and cycle lights not good enough, bought reinforcements. Quite tricky but fun, some tree felling around here lately, could one or two points be missing on the trail?
Last summer the idea was born to visit [Green]'New Zealand'[/Green], together with [url=http://coord.info/PR3NXJG][red]'MimiNemo'[/red][/url]
After some important decisions regarding the beginning of our trip, the flights, the general route and the car were made, the most important question was still unanswered: which caches can we visit during our tour [?]
To get an answer for this topic I was fetching almost every cache from both islands [8)][:X]
[url=http://coord.info/PR3NXJG][red]'MimiNemo'[/red][/url] and I love [Teal]'Geo-Arts'[/Teal]...so we added all these cache series to our wish list
After this decision was made this list was more than 300 puzzle caches long...unsolved puzzle caches
Two weeks before Christmas it was getting time to start solving all these mystery caches
Even with the different language I could find almost every solution
In the case I was not so successful I was contacting some of the CO's...and was always getting help from them...many thanks for this support [:X]
During the following weeks our cache list was growing and growing...meanwhile more than 1000 caches long...too long for a simple bookmark list from GC
Time to get our route and caches in sync...time to save the PQ's to our Garmins...time to start this holiday:
Chapter 9: [red]Southland[/red] including [green]Invercargill[/green] and [navy]Bluff[/navy]
Exploring the southern part of [Green]'New Zealand'[/Green] was our mission of the day
Driving around in the beautiful area we also stopped for some caches [:X]
This night cache was one of them
With a strong torch it was very easy to follow the lights
But all of a sudden the lights were off
We searched around...and as we decided to give up we saw the last two reflectors...and some moments later the cache
I would like to thank all the cache owners for showing us these great places and maintaining all these caches,

A couple of half days down south. Lots of new caches since I was here last. Thanks for hiding them!
Thought we would have a look for this one on the last night before daylight saving begins. Lots of fun finding, altho could have done with a slightly stronger torch. TFTC.
An enjoyable night caching with a few laughs. Felt like a kid again playing spotlight. TFTC
Loved doing this cache! Took a bit to work out at the start as GPS had us confused but was good fun once we got going. Such a brilliant idea! Need more night caches round Invercargill for sure thanks so much for bringing this one back, well worth it!
Without a doubt one of our favourites!!! We love night geocaching, we love this cache.

Found during fozzmiester's South Island adventure. Great fun was had with clever hides and stunning locations encountered along the way. Many thanks to the owners of all the caches found and the enjoyment which you provided.
I do enjoy a nightcache and with this one being fairly close to where we were staying it was ripe for a very early morning visit. A nice easy trail to follow and the final was quickly in hand once I got to the end. TFTC

Very cool caching hunt in the middle of the night with the torch! Had a good laugh!
