Not a successful find today. Looked under the leaf litter but nothing. This ones probably been muggled sadly
Following the updated hint I checked as many parts of the stump as I could reach from the boardwalk, but all I found was a piece of litter (and ignored the cans and bottles at the base). I had a bit of a poke around with a stick to get through some of the leaf litter, but by this point I was soaked and cold and ready to head home.
In Auckland with rattll, seeking to find as many caches as possible in a short period of time, so that she can hit a significant milestone and a significant anniversary at the same time. Phew!By now, really wet and miserable, and I'm questioning my sanity as to why we're still out on the side of the hill, rather than in the warmth. Questioning even more the sanity of the lady jogging up and down the steps repeatedly, and she's not even geocaching!Had to wait till she'd gone past before we could grab the cache. All well inside the container. Quickly signed and returned as found, before she came back. Tftc!
Despite the dismal weather, there were plenty of muggles around this afternoon. One muggle was running up and down the steps so we had to time our search for when she had her back to us.Thanks for setting this up
Our second physical cache on the maunga today, and thankfully it was a nice quick find as there were a couple of ladies having a rest and a chat on the stairs not far from the cache. We had fun exploring the mountain, while trying to find the ad lab points, complete the earth cache and collect all the trads in the area. Amazing views. Our first time climbing this mountain but it will not be the last.
In taking ownership of this cache, and with the new paths existing, I have put it somewhere that does not require leaving the path, as to follow kaitiakitanga

SSTS Series - Saturn (Mangere Mountain, Auckland) was transferred from TheBrownStuff12 to user Ribeana
Thanks we had great fun finding this!! We forgot a pen so could not log our name sorry!
Howdy everyone, ever wanted to get some established caches in some pretty unique locations? Well here's your chance! We are moving overseas, and as such, we are unable to look after the SSTS Series. There are 9 caches up for adoption. If we are unable to find somebody to adopt the series by the end of February 2024, we'll need to archive and remove them. Please DM me if your interested.I hope your enjoying your end of year holidays. Happy hunting
Day 10: South Island (Cromwell) and North Island (Mangere)Today was a day in two parts, beginning in the South where we left Cromwell for Queenstown Airport, but not before picking up a few caches on the way before the flight. After landing in a very windy Auckland, the second part of todays journey took me up Mangere Mountain for a little hike and back down to Mangere Bridge to cap the day off. An interesting day indeed, and once again, thanks to the COs on both islands for the multitude of caches of all stripes.(End of the cut and paste bit)This is the specific log for this cache:Terrain heading to the GZ was really tricky, owing to the very tall grass and uneven invisible terrain. But I made it and had an easy find once I was in the area thanks to the slightly bright camouflage used. Signed in here and all is well. TFTC!
#40228, 2023-10-09 at 09:01, Thanks for the cache SSTS Series - Saturn (Mangere Mountain, Auckland) and the owner TheBrownStuff12.Found during our 2 weeks in New Zealand trip.
Halfway up the mountain I checked the phone. Silly me I should have checked 1/3rd of the way up.I think this is the 3rd solar system series I have encountered around the world. Thanks for the great view from this one!PS had to take a photo log as the pen was in the other bag back at the motel....

Perserverance paid off with this one. Shout out to EKB for doing the scrambling. Such a beautiful spot to visit, I look forward to coming back. Beautiful maunga and some amazing local history. Tftc
This one was quite pre stupid but Miss 11 was tenacious - we didn’t have a pen but did find! TFTC
Nice walk up the mountain. First one found in the solar system series. Can't wait to find more!

GPS led us a little astray, but eventually got to GZ, and a quick search found it. We replaced the entire cache container and log book as it was well n' truly saturated! Replaced back into same location. Enjoy hunting! Found with Reny90

Container has a hole in the lid and needs replacing, I did turn the container upside down so potential water can drain out the lid, log book is subsequently wet too.

Donig the Ad Lab on the mountain so ticked this one off as a slight detour, found GZ quickly and soon rummaged around to find the cache, the lid has a crack in it and the logbook is wet, Dont worry, I didn't dare do anything like replace a logsheet or anything, I'll make sure to add a need maintenance log instead.

M24: nice cache to find, terrain not as rough as we thought for m13 and myself, easily retrieved container. TFTC.
Bit of a rough scramble in my work clothes but that’s down to me. Good location and hide.tftc
A nice quick find. Last visit the steps were just being built and the cache unable to accessed. Today the steps are finished, and the cache found. Thanks for placing your cache.
Ms_KR and I are in Auckland Auckland for a break and we are exploring the region while we are based here. The weather was good today, which was great for the International geocaching Day event. There were other finds on the way to, and from and at the venue of course.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Great hide. Fun find. Not far off new stairs (look beautiful), so I gave it a go.
Cache needs maintenance though, lid is broken and the code number for the bonus cache is almost not readable.

Out with my homeschool group today, the kids took off up the mountain, so i followed and noticed a geocache nearby that we hadn't found yet. We took a bit of a "scenic route" to get to gz today, but we persisted and found the cache easily once we were in the right spot, it has alot of wee snails making it their home at the moment! Tftc
No luck today.
The track to GZ is closed. In fact most of the Mangere mountain caches are in sacred areas now.
Next time.......

Put off by closed track signs and a hot day. I let Karma Reprint sweat it out while I read The Weekend by Charlotte Wood under a shady pohutukawa. Thanks anyway.
Out and about for a wander with NZ Iceman today.
Felt like a mountain goat as I made my way down to the correct structure. Soon spotted the cache which is well lodged into place. Lid is broken and number for the bonus is hard to read but I think I worked it out. Log is still nice and dry in its bag.
Thanks for the cache.

This one was a definite good find for cache. Although not sure whether to go through I believe footpath is closed off due to the risk of climbing down/up. Tftc!
Came to Mangere mountain to try and solve the adventure lab but failed at the first hurdle!
Traditionals it is then.
Tricky to get to but found it in the end.

GPS seemed to be all over the place. Looked everywhere but to no avail. Hard work!
Doing the loop with my whānau and a friend and her three tamariki as well. We’d stopped near here for a snack so I snuck off to explore. Terrain wasn’t great for bringing smaller explorers. At what I thought was GZ there seemed extensive signs of searching but nothing that I could see. I checked the logs and spotted a key word that led me further up the hill to a more obvious GZ and the cache was soon located then. Managed to get it out and by then their eldest and my Mini McArgister had come to see so we signed in and replaced and I returned to the group for one of the muffins I’d baked this morning. Thanks for the fire-proof cache!
Up the hill for the adv labs and a few of the collateral extras. This was found when passing and I got the clue from the (cracked) lid. All good here and replaced as found.
My sole job today is to pick up our daughter from the airport, and with an 1130 timing to be met it meant I could plan to do some caches in the vicinity. I was keen to check out Kiwi esplanade and also the new Adv Lab caches in the area. I was keen to see what this orienteering cache style was about, and was very impressed with the style, nice on tramyard.
On the trail pretty early, out the house at 0700 and made my airport timing easily after a 10km plus walk (finished before 1015) and back home to sort the garden out before xmas.

Up in Auckland for the night visiting family before Xmas. Stopped by here before dinner.
Tftc quick find here lucky for me could have taken a while.

Took quite some time searching to find where this one is.....
Then found that the lid was screwed on very tightly....so it took a very long time to access the log.
So glad to finally tick it off!

Was not sure that this one would be there, given that most of the other nearby caches had been found in the last few weeks and this one has gone unfound since July. It took a while to nail down the correct GZ. I went to one spot I thought would be obvious, but then quickly realized it was in another spot. Once at the new spot I did some reconnaissance. Apparently I went right past the cache without looking at it. Eventually I had another go round at the gz and didn't miss it this time. Couldn't get the container out, but still managed to access the contents. Nice view from here, though maybe not the best place to be right after a rainy morning. Thanks!
Cache survived the fire by just a few meters!
Signed and placed back!
Terrain is rough with all the fire debris, but cache is good to go!
Thanks!

Not sure if the cache made it thru the fire will check on it as soon as possible though
At the end of the day, we decide to walk from the motel to Mangere Mountain.
Many people go up and down to keep in their physical condition.
The cache is still in place, the most difficult thing is to open it because the box is trapped in the tree.
---
Thanks Biartch79 for the geocache [^]
Greetings from Belgium,

Happy geocaching

Visiting a friend from UK & the weather was gorgeous, so we went for a little walk. Looked for caches & lo & behold we had some to do! Unfortunately, we couldn't spot this & there were a number of muggles around too, so we decided to move on. Lovely site for a tourist to take some pics though
Find number 6084. In Auckland for a couple of days grabbing some caches. Having done the Mangere cycle trail it was over to collect a few on this mountain. I managed to find the right trail to this one. At GZ I spent some time searching . I was aware of a man at the top and found out later he was attending newly planted vegetation. Eventually I spotted the cache and was able to sign. Thank you for the placement.
A bit of a scramble, gps bounce but found it with rustynz. Contents dry, easy to open, just left in its hidey hole
Survived the tree felling, but definitively not possible to remove the container without damaging it anymore. Family hunt with mum, ryder and carapaige. Tftc
Walking the dog and picked up the caches around the mountain. Struggled with the lid on this one but got there in the end. Glad it survived the tree chopping. tftc.
quick find. nice container. absolutely perfect day to go geocaching. thank you for the hide. 9. Juni 2019 12:00
Took us a wee while to find due to recent tree felling and really bad co-ordinates but looked In an obvious spot. The container may need maintenance but will message CO. TFTC!
The lid has split and the container no longer can be pilled out. (If you know what we mean) May need checking thanks!
An afternoon walk from the airport to Onehunga. 28 smileys along the way with a few DNFs. Great views from up here. Struggled with opening the cache but got there in the end. TFTC
A nice and early start in the company of HKCB to locate a few caches around the airport area so that we could get HKCB closer towards his 10,000th cache. Headed from home at 5am and got here just as dawn was about to break, and the good thing being that we pretty much had the place to ourselves the entire day as we headed out collecting a few caches. Today was also to be a good day for testing out the new MTB.
Working our way around the mountain collecting caches as we went. was not expecting too much with all the logging that had taken place but after a short hunt and a longer extraction we can confirm that the cache is both dry, safe and intact for the next finder. Glad to know this one off.
Nice quick find, thanks for the placement and the cache

With a significant milestone coming up, but still needing about 80 or so caches to get close to the mark a numbers mission was on the cards. With a few new trails placed around Auckland Airport this seemed to be the perfect place to start so having teamed up with Cats&Dragons and with the bikes in tow, we were all set.
As Cats&Dragons had already found a quite a few around this area we mainly focused on those caches that he hadn't found and I'd grab anything else we were also passing. The day was a great success, though we fell a few short of the number needed as we got rained out mid-afternoon.
A huge thanks to all the CO's who's caches we found. Some great quality hides too, which I'll mention in those logs.
Thought this one might have gone as the trees been shortened considerably. However it took a little search but we found it safe and sound. Thanks for keeping this series alive.

Couldn’t find this one, the trees are beginning to get cut down, not sure if that affects the cache or not :/
Out walking around this domain this afternoon and wanted to collect as many of the caches as possible.Havent done one in this series for a while so it was a good reminder although we have now realised we didn’t collect any of the other bonus letters.opps.Plenty of fun had to get to this one and once found as others have said found it impossible to move it so had to get the log by another approach but singed non the less so all good.
It's been a while since we've found a cache in this series so we were pleased to find this one today.
GZ was a bit tricky to get to but it was a nice quick find once there. However the cache itself has become trapped in its hiding spot so we had to open the lid and retrieve the log while it was still in place.
Nice spot, TFTC.

This morning we picked up our campervan at Apollo's and took of to Mangere Mountain for a nice view and some caches. Tough one the retrieve the logbook, had to take off the lid first...
The last day in Auckland I used to discover the area around Mangere mountain, where I found this box.
Thanks for the cache!
Thanks for the cache!
I had looked for this one some time ago, without sucess. Today I was in the area looking for another cache, and decided to try again. This time I found it in the first place I looked. TFTC.
Junior cachers enjoyed hunting for this one. We left a few things for others to find. TFTC
