TFTC smile 21008 Out and about on a Sunny day grabing a cache to try and keep a challenge going signed as GS1947 on small logs It's Party time at GCARTY0 - 05 October 2025 Sunshine Coast come and join us for a great time Thank you Sweet-Sour for placing this cache for our enjoyment
We have been up and down the Bruce many times over the years but have never made time for this Multi, so today we did. We left home and travelled north and had our first experience of the new Gympie bypass, which is excellent. We gathered the information needed to find GZ and the cache was soon spotted, log signed and returned to its hidey spot with a couple more rocks on top. We then stopped for coffee at the post office/grocery store in Gunalda and after a chat, decided we would make our way over to the Theebine Hotel as we where so close for a snack at lunch time. Since we were here last, the pub has undergone extensive renovations which are all for the good and has lost none of its charm. We sat on the new front deck with our toasties looking up at the views of the surrounding hills. Then it was back on the Bruce homeward bound, FP for the great day out. TFTC Sweet-Sour/Dfc_jik2019
This was a great morning adventure. A fallen tree was across the road 500mtrs from the posted coords so we headed off on foot along the road then cut across to WP1. The information was gathered at each WP and then under the shade of a tree the final coords were worked out. After a bit of a bush bash the signature hide was soon spotted. Log signed and replaced as found. Thanks Dfc_jlk2019 for adopting this one placed 11 years ago. Fav from us..
We had the opportunity to spend some time exploring the region and were lucky to have perfect winter weather for it. We visited some wonderful sites, enjoyed some spectacular views and discovered some interesting history along the way. That sure would have been a long slow trip by steam to Cairns back in the day. After securing appropriate numbers, we took our own twisty route to GZ to find the clearest way through. Once there, the cache was quickly found. Thanks Dfc_jlk2019
Happily we found a way in to the final that didnt require us to wade through knee-high grass. Spied where the cache was hidden fairly quickly on arrival at GZ, signed the logbook and made our way back to the car. TFTC
I was on an incredible road trip adventure back to work and stumbled upon this drive-by cache. It was a perfect spot to take a quick break and stretch my legs. The coordinates were spot on, and the cache was cleverly hidden. Thanks to the cache owner for placing this here and adding a fun element to our journey!
I had a plan hatched today to visit my family and also find a few caches with a camping attribute to try and qualify for Geo Rodes september challenge that i only started off the month with 1 out of 25. I dropped my husband at the airport at 4am ( he was off to see the AFL grand final) and this was my first stop. I did my homework on this cache and kind of knew what was in store. I did get a bit muddled and a bit muddy as there must have been a lot of rain up here. I finally got it sorted and had my rock ready to add to the Cairn. This was a fun cache. Thanks for all the fun
Today the Mumma Bear and the cubs gang joined with The Green Geckos, Muggle 65 and Brislions to get some caches we all needed to help qualify for the newly published September Camping Challenge.

Tftc Sweet - Sour, a beaut sunny day today after a nice downpour over the last few days
Out for a run to collect some supplies and a few target caches before we leave the Glenwood house sit that we are doing
Interesting spot. Thanks

Thanks to the latest monthly challenge in Brisbane, September is all about caches near to camping… For me it means road-trips, plural, to try and collect as many as possible…
Patrol14 and I have a list, well I have a list, Patrol14 is just along for the ride, as she’s already got 327 of the required 25 caches for this challenge…
This cache was a must do for us today… and we used all our caching skills to arrive at GZ…
Tftc… ?? happy to show this cache a little love today…

A new monthly challenge, another road trip with Peppa. When I got the message to say do I want to go on a road trip, our first plan was a 6hr drive to Thallon!! Hmmm... that's a bit far for a day, is there a Plan B? Gunalda near Gympie. That's doable. So an early start to try and beat the traffic up the M1 north. A stop at Gympie for food and toilet break, we are now here starting our search for caches with camping nearby.
This was first on the list that Peppa created, I really didn't need anymore as I already qualify for the challenge which I kept reminding him of.
Made use of the early start, as we worked our way through the WP's to get to GZ and our numbers worked out right. A quick find, SL then returned as found. Happy to give this cache some love.

TFTC. We decided to explore a little south of Maryborough. It looked like a good day to do some caching. We planned a loop to Gunalda and return. We were ok one way but we decided to abandon the return until next time. A pleasant couple of hours for 14 caches and exploring a new area. Last one for the morning. Thanks for the adventure Sweet-Sour.
Well turned out we could do it the same day as United we Burn. The NutCacheBNE just drove to all the waypoints and even about 20m before the final. He really is nutty. Lucky he has me to do the maths.
Woo Hoo TOOT TOOT. We were so impressed with ourselves when we managed to do the calculations and have the check sums agree with us. The QR nearly got me, I thought that I was looking for a 'QR code'. I had a good laugh at myself. SL TFTC
Next, Mr CuriousQuest and I made our way to this cache. We worked our way through the waypoints and and, before long, were at GZ. There, the cache was quickly located and the log signed. Fifteen months of unloved was a bonus! TFTC
Today I was invited up to the Gympie area for a CITO, an event and some caches by Selvagirls so jumped at the chance. Nice quick find, Log signed and replaced as found. TFTC
Thank you Barbowman for your help, would not have found it if it wasnt for you fun getting here! No ghost trains today
Hatzofff has joined with me for some caching around the Kilkivan New Year Event.
Given the not-so-much fun not completing the ghost train multi, we wondered how we would go with this one. But it was much easier and more fun in the cooling afternoon breeze. A Fav from me.

Life has been very busy and it has taken me 3 months to be able to sit down and log these caches - you can't rush these things . This is how the story goes...
bb and I are on a road trip to Bargara for a couple of days away from family, work and our busy lives to just go caching This was our third cache for the day and another impulse decision. It was well worth stopping for It took us a few moments to realise where we had to go, but once we'd worked it out we cheated and drove the Big Blue Truck to the waypoints. After a quick google to acquaint ourselves with one of the mathematical terms - oh that's the actual name of what that process is called (forehead slap) - we worked out the final coords and were very happy to find a cache. Yay! TFTC Sweet-Sour

A train cache was a nice way to finish off our caching today. Motoring along in the Bedmobile we were able to drive to all of the waypoints to gather the required info. It was all found pretty easy and the necessary maths was done to give us the required co-ordinates. We parked up off to the side in case a ghost train happen to pass by and walked the last 100 meters or so to GZ. We noted it had been a while since this one was found so it would be nice to find unloved cache.
The area around GZ was a little overgrown but where the cache was hidden was easy to see. All was good with it and we added out names as the first for this year.

After the New Years Widgee event, we had an early start, hoping to grab a swag of caches and beat the inevitable car park on the Bruce Highway later in the day.
Fungus chose an interesting access point for this one. It would be embarrassed to be bogged right beside the highway. However we got through and managed to collect the clues. Whereupon Seff showed us his accounting skills to do the numbers. Think the auditors are coming, Seff.
We found our way to the final eventually for the find. Thanks for the cache, Sweet Sour

Day two of the New Years Widgee Bromance Extravaganza (NYWBE) and we scoot north from the Newbies Event in Widgee to grab a few outliers that twinkle our fancy. Nothing too onerous, and lots of fun. Always remembering that there may be some serious traffic on the way home for the end of holiday long weekends.
An enjoyable cache that only required limited movement out of the car! thanks for the fun. A year and a day unloved - woot!

No red carpet parties rubbing shoulders with A listers. No sipping champagne in a ski chalet in the French Alps. Not even a couple of sparklers and a get together with relations you can't stand. Such is the stunted social life of the Bromance on New Years Eve. So instead Swellerfungus, Crookedpete and Seffnjarah decided to pack up the Zoomin' Shroom and head up to Widgee for a day of caching and a night of camping in 5 hollow-star luxury.
Heading off early on New Year's Day to beat the holiday traffic, we were making a few stops to pick up some caches including this one. The J.E.F.F. App had identified this as a resuscitator cache to add to our collection, with the last find being exactly 1 year and 1 day ago (presumably by attendees of last year's equivalent event ), so this was one of our must do caches for the day.
Having vouched the 4WD credentials of the Zoomin' Shroom the previous day, Swellerfungus lined up a cross country entrance into the cache location, but Crookedpete was squealing that he was sure Fungus was going to get us bogged in mud up to the axles. Sure enough the Shroom was through in no time and negotiated us past the various waypoints (in reverse order due to our access point) to collect the information required.
As resident beancounter I was left to do the sums. Embarassingly, the brain was in holiday mode and I managed to cock-up one of the numbers, much to my companions' delight. With the right numbers eventually calculated Swellerfungus did his level best to get us close to GZ as possible but there is only so many obstacles the Zoomin' Shroom can conquer. GZ was not one of them [:0].
Despite the passage of time, the container was located safe and well, and we managed to find an easier way out heading to our next cache. TFTC

Unfinished business. After a lovely walk around the area a couple months ago - I failed to make numbers work . With some help from the CO who has now corrected a glitch in the matrix I sorted some better numbers - but just needed to make the stop.
Heading sort of to the area today and this was a goal. With Fangsoki along for the drive, we drove right to a good stopping place and a short walk later was unearthing a small. All good here. Now.
Thanks for placing this cache, Sweet-Sour. Found in good condition.

Pprime and I were in the area and this was one of his targets.
I had started this cache many moons ago. But being a multi - and I usually work when going past I was running a bit low on time and never got it finished. Today we were to fix this up.
Pprime had done his leg work and we approached the final after going down hill and up over dale we soon arrived at his co-ordinates. Didn't look like a very cache hiding type area to me and I wondered if Pprime had made a faux pas.
But Pprime announced he soon found the well hidden prize (soon taught me!) It was in excellent condition. We signed the log and re-hid the cache as found. A great little cache that takes you some interesting areas. TFTC Sweet-Sour

I have Felix II from WA camped up for a couple of days.
I suggested that we do this one as I had some checking to do from recent comments about the co-ords of WP2. Guess what they were stuffed up - don't know how, but 140m out.
We managed to sort out all the glitches.
Happy caching

Travelling around Australia and currently in Curra, Queensland.
Ducked out in the afternoon to grab a few caches.
Lucky to have the CO with me today checking the waypoints.

I drive to and from Bundaberg. A lot. My car GPS has caches on it, so as I drive I can see all the smilies I've previously found - and all those annoying little green boxes. Like this one. Almost right next to the road, and yet I have not had the chance to stop in recent years. Today I am blitzing Gympie to Gunalda, along the highway, to rectify this issue.
But this one will remain on the map a bit longer. I enjoyed the walk around the three waypoints, although I couldn't get within 40m of anything useful at WP2. Crunched the numbers and it had me 2kms down the road (turns out, in some farmer's front dam ... word to the wise, it's not there). Something is wrong.
My thanks to the CO for giving me better numbers - it'll have to be a future trip though.

Coordinates changed to:
S 26° 00.207 E 152° 33.875
Distance from original: 223.9 feet or 68.3 meters.
Since the cache was placed there have been some changes to the area, the old stage 1 was badly overgrown, and some of the infrastructure has been buried under ballast.
A new stage 1, and modified stages 2 & 3 have been updated.
To change the cords has taken several logs, which have been deleted

Catching up on a few logs i missed from NYE, thought i had better give Sweet-Sour some more logs, because he wouldn't be getting enough over the next couple of days
After finding some traditional caches I thought I had better get some different ones for the day. It took me a good three goes to find the correct way to get to the start of the cache, safe to say i know my way around Gunalda now!
WP1 was completed with ease, WP2 troubled me a little with the format of the numbers , but i got the hang of it. And wp3 should of been easy, only i forgot my thinking cap and all common sense apparently as i forgot to add the degrees into the checksum :/ I got a set of coordinates which put me in the middle of nowhere :'(
Needless to say after a few inappropriate words had been shared with myself I ended up calling mother, who had previously completed this cache and gave me the general whereabouts and i completed a sweep until I found the cache. I will award a fav for this one, as i love incorporating physical items into a puzzle cache.

Headed out with Liz and Bruce to grab a few caches, that we missed with the caravan in tow.
We started this one some time ago, but ran out of time to complete it.
So today we reached GZ, and had no trouble locating the cache.
A great bit of history, and worth a favourite point from us.
Many thanks for placing this cache, Sweet-Sour, for us and others to find.

Great to get out for a days caching especially with our soon to be travelling companions The Drovers. This was one we had been working on for a while so were glad we got nearby today. Fav point alloc. We enjoyed the countryside and it was nice for us to know that it was an easy trip back to some of these wonderful locations especially around Eumundi and Noosa. Thanks to Sweet-Sour.
Do ghost trains stop at manifestations?
My relations that live in Gunalda used to work for QR in Gympie and surrounds. In 1880, the North Coast line was opened and it seems hardly a month has gone by since where QR has not been straightening, electrifying or some other type of upgrading the line ever since. So it is scarcely a surprise that these sections have been re-aligned. Had I explored them before? Nope.
When Net88 and myself found ourselves in Gunalda, I was driving and declared we'd head off to find this geocache to do with trains. It's a simple pleasure of mine, exploring abandoned railways. The Subaru powered off the road and was gently guided through the waypoints and it was not until right near waypoint 1 that underneath got crunchy against gravel as we steered around mighty fallen trees.
Not unlike many others before us, we had a mountain of troubles sorting the numbers out. Waypoint 3 seemed to be a long way from the supplied co-ordinates, but we got some numbers. Waypoint 2 was a smoother affair, but waypoint 1 may as well have been counting elephants, blades of grass or something else seen at GZ for we couldn't get anywhere close to making the checksum line up.
We gave all that away and resorted to a PAF - not something you expect on a D2.5. It was explained how the checksums worked and it was agreed either the geocache page needs a lot of clarification and explanation added or the difficulty jamming way up higher. It just seemed hardly logical to us. But Net seemed to grasp it a little better and gave me some final co-ordinates to work with. Off we went.
The car was parked close by and in the usual heat of Australia Day, charged into the bush. I recall seeing some other remnants of train history as the walking was done. Around, down, up, down and the geocache was in sight. A simple affair to sign the logbook and replace as found. Not a find we could have achieved without that PAF. TFTC Sweet-Sour.

Captain Terror and I were in Gunalda for the CITO and decided that since we had more time than we once thought we would, that we should grab the caches in the area. This one excited the Captain more than myself but that was probably to do with the fact it was near something related to a train.
We started at wp 3 somehow but that didn't seem to matter. We got the number but couldn't work out what to do with it. No worries, let's find the next one... maybe we can get all the information then work out the puzzle?
We arrived at wp 2 and collected all the information easily, next was off towards WP1. This is where we really got stuck. The Captain was running around searching for anything likely to be the required items but we just couldn't work out this wacky puzzle. I ended up calling a previous finder to try and help me before I got too frustrated. She explained a few things and all the occupants of both cars agreed this was a bit far fetched for a D2.5
With a few hints we were able to get the right coordinates and drove off towards the final GZ. The Captain made the find and after signing our names we replaced the cache as found and happily returned to the car. Thanks for the cache Sweet-Sour

Out for a drive between Pomona and Gympie today and decided to grab a few caches around the area. I'd gathered the information for this one on my way to Maryborough last week but ran out of time to complete it then. I had a number of possibilities for one of the WP's and sought clarification from the CO to ensure I was headed in the right direction.
So today the cache was a quick find and after signing the log all was returned as found.
Being an ex railway man I do enjoy a bit of rail history.

Lovely walk....kids found some old railway pins....the ghost train gave us a he'll of a fright...TFTC
I have changed the instructions for WP3, following comments in a recent couple of logs.
I do hope that this removes any doubts.
Happy Caching

My sister, doscrapbooking, and I are heading north looking for caches over the next few days on a road trip.
Today is day 4 of our road trip and we have had some fun in Harvey Bay.
Of course on the way back to Brissy we stopped to grab a cache or two along the way.
We arrived and parked the car closer to WP3 than the posted co-ords and started walking.
We soon had the information and headed off to the final....no success....had another look at the questions and changed WP3 slightly ....another search and still no cache.
Back to the car as it was now pelting down again...I decided to phone a friend...a bit cryptic...but we got there in the end.
With the Log book signed, cache replaced and we were on our way again. [^]
Thanks for the cache

Out today with Madwizard and this one has been tormenting me for a while, Wp1 was straight forward, I confussed myself (not very hard to do) at WP2 & 3 and had to give the CO a call to get a helping hand, to be honest we wouldn't have worked it out without his help. Thanks mate!
With the final coordinates confirmed and entered into the gpsr we were off and not long after the cache was signed. We added a rock to the cairn and as a thank you for the help we filled it up with some swappables.
Thanks For the helping hand and a very well thought out cache. Bravo Sweet-Sour

Well!! What a challenge... Out with Tomuda today finding a few caches but this one was the ultimate goal. I think Tomuda did most of the work especially the brain work although after a bit of a discussion with me he did call the CO for some confirmation and once that was done it was excitement all round and by 10:56hrs we had the cache in hand and the log signed. After adding some swappables the container was resealed and returned to its resting place.
Thanks to Tomuda and Sweet-Sour for their help. I'm sure I couldn't have done this one without the team work.
A great challenge, TFTC TNLN SL

Well, this was not one of our finer efforts. The little lancer did it's part bravely carrying us to all the WPs with no trouble at all.
Unfortunately our brains could not cope with one of the WPs. It just made no sense to us at all. Luck for us we know the CO and managed to obtain a contact number. A quick detour to collect some other nearby caches and it was time to beg for help. After a quick explanation of what was required we soon had the numbers we needed.
Off to GZ for a nice quick find.
Another very interesting cache, which took us to three railway lines in our somewhat mad, deluded crazy travels.

Another huge day road-tripping with teamdfl today, and we're driving from Brisbane to Maryborough and beyond! We'd started this puzzle and found all the WPs, but got derailed trying to decipher the last one so thought we'd visit the CO and get a hint, but there was no answer We then decided to tackle his nearby multi and went full steam ahead on that one [^] While we were having a cuppa I was able to make contact with the CO, and he gave us the help we needed to clarify things, and we came up with a very nice looking GZ We made our way back and found the cache pretty quickly. I remembered to add a rock to the cairn. TFTC, Sweet-Sour, and congrats on your 100th cache
Morning in Gunalda
Time for some serious training
And after a drive down a dead end road that probably used to be the main highway, I ended up driving along the olde, but not oldest, alignment of the Main North Rail Line
I picked up the clues as I bounced the geomobile from waypoint 3 to 1
Worked out the coordinates for GZ and ..... sat down in the shade to work out where I had gone wrong
Waypoint 3 seemed to be the problem, so I headed back there.
But try, try, try as I might,
I couldn't work out how to fudge the numbers on the plate so the checksum added up [:o]
Ah well !!
I was pretty confident the south coords were good, so I set off to walk the line (of latitude) that is
And starting from the old electrified line I set off to the west, which seemed logical, and after a few minutes found the cache
It became very noisy at GZ as I signed the logbook.
I could hear the ghost train passing by [:o]
I couldn't see it though
It was a very long ghost train ?
TFTC and a chance to crack the QR code.

2nd TF Back out today with a lot more success.
Completely read the last question wrong.
Interpreted some of the questions differently and came up with wrong answers.
A quick walk to GZ today and found what I was looking for.
Still 2 pathtags there for the next finders.
Congratulations sweet-sour on your 100th cache.
TNLNSL TFTC Thanks sweet-sour All good with this cache

Found at 1230. I had to go and check on one of my new hides as the container was faulty and decided to do this one and a couple of Warrior's whilst up here. I needed to be back home by 1530 at the latest. Went back to waypoint one where I think I made my mistake and I sure did. Miscounted. I will blame it on the dark and the angle I was looking from. Adjusted the cords for the final waypoint as I was happy with my answers to the other WP questions and after a short walk had the container in hand. Added my rock to the Cairn.

We had a go at this one today.
Arrived at WP 1 and collected the clues.
Onto WP 2 and collected the clues
Onto WP3 and collected the clues
Off to final but no luck.
Might need a checker on this one.
Off to get the FTF at Kilkivan but will not touch your dedication ones.
Will be back

Arrived in Gunalda just as it was becoming dark. Took me awhile to find a way into WP1 but that was probably just me not trusting the GPSr. Gathered all the information from WP 1 and 2 and 3 and walked back to my car from WP3 and took a look in the direction the thingy was pointing and walked over and thought that I was not going looking there in the dark and I must be wrong with one of my numbers. No checker so did not know how far I could have been out. Only a note and not a DNF as I did not have any good light to go back and check my numbers. Sent Co and email. I placed a few cache hides in your honour today Keith. I hope you are lucky enough to get the FTF on at least one. Will be back when I can to tackle this one again.
