Hi Captain Tomato, thank God it wasn't windy, the wet foliage soaked me and I would been refrigeratedReally enjoyed our adventurous meander! It was fun - like old times
The old burnt and rusted ammo can has been replaced with a nice new one. The new cache is now sitting behind the old burnt stump.
A group of eager cachers decided to brave the chilly morning and venture up Booroomba Rocks. All caches we found were signed as Ice Breakers due to the thin layers of ice covering all the puddles and how entertaining they are to drop and smash on the nearby rocks. The weather warmed up throughout the day and made for a beautiful day out in the sun. I've come to enjoy these group ventures as you always get to know people better and create some great friendships along the way. Another tough slog through the dense flora which I assume has taken over since the bushfires. We made it in the end and the view was incredible, definitely well worth it. TFTC Captain Tomato
Signed as Icebreakers, to reflect the cool morning, consisting of pantspeople, Loci612, Googlehihihi + his Dad, C10A and her friend, Scaphoid, DeadThief, Turtle284 and EthisEthat.*I am grateful to Geocache on this land, which has been cared for by the Ngunnawal ancestors (ACT) for generations. I promise to respect this land and its people, to celebrate together, and to learn from one another. I will care for the land as the Ngunnawal ancestors have always done.*
Bit of a slog to get here. We came the hard way in and left an easier way. Signed as icebreakers, to reflect the cool morning, consisting of pantspeople, Loci612, Googlehihihi + his Dad, C10A and her friend, Scaphoid, DeadThief, Turtle284 and EthisEthat. All good with the hide, if a little rusty and charred. Thanks CT and SSBC for the view. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In the spirit of reconciliation we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country on which we geocache throughout Australia and their long lasting, and ongoing connections to land, sea and community. We (the pants people) pay our respects to Traditional Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
I’ve been up Booroomba Rocks a few times now, and always looked curiously over towards these rocks without ever making the effort to haul my way over to them. Well today was the day, thanks to the placement of this cache!
Well and truly worth the effort for the awesome southerly views and I should say…what a hefty container! Magnificent stuff…thanks for the cache!

What a beautiful day for a bush walk, and even better to have some caches to aim for. Headed out with KittyKatch, Joolay, Albida, Toyhunters, FurfacesLL, and Sebass to get to Booroomba rocks, my first time. It was a bit of a slog to get up the hill, but the views were amazing! Grabbed a few caches while wandering around at the top, South Canberra Views being the highlight! A wonderful day with and wonderful buddies to cache with! Signed BB or JBB!
We followed a previous cachers advice and bush bashed to the sloping rock which we then walked up. Then a few more metres and Albida made the find for us! A lovely spot!
Thanks Captain Tomato for the cache and the fun!

Members of the Canberra Geocaching Walks group got together to tacklev the caches at Booroomba Rocks. Signed caches as June Booroomba Bash (JBB). We we followed previous log comments to make our way along the long boulder and did the short bush bash to find GZ. Great views to the north from here on top of the boulders. Thanks for the hide Captain Tomato and SecretSquirrel-BJC
Found with Booroomba Bash (BB or JBB) consisting of me, albida33, AngelG27, FurfacesLL, Joolay, Kittykatch and sebass19. We read the description and logs and made a good judgement call on where to begin our direct approach to GZ. Awesome location, amazing views. Quick find by albida33. TNLNSL. TFTC CT/SS-BJC.
Awesome views. Enjoyed the clamber over the rocks and then the views came into sight.
Perfect day for my first visit to Booroombra Rocks. Signing as JBB for June Booroombra Bash
Thanks for getting me out and about Captain Tomato

Thanks for getting me out and about Captain Tomato
Since my return to Canberra, I have been looking forward to getting out on a group walk. The opportunity came along a little quicker than expected and a trip to Booroomba Rocks was planned for today. I was joined for a great days walking and scrub bashing by Joolay, Kitty Katch, AlngelG27, FurfacesLL, Sebass19 and Toy Hunters. The logs were signed JBB for June Booroomba Bash. We met up at the Booroomba Rocks car park on a bright sunny but quite cold morning. It was not long before we were on our way up the trail, but with a few stops along the way, it seemed to go in no time. The caching along the top of the rocks began and then a trip out to South Canberra views. With time run out we skipped the trip down the cliff face and returned to the car park for a final short detour walk to another big rock. The day was finished with the virtual up at Honey Suckle Creek tracking station, amongst the huge crowds camping for the weekend. This was a fantastic day and I can't wait for out next outing.
Getting through the undergrowth to the rock slabs was the challenging part, some thing that was to become a theme for the day. The view back the other way over the car park was very impressive.
Thanks for the cache Captain Tomato

Today FFLL no 2 joined albida33, AngelG27, Toy Hunters, Joolay, Kittykatch and sebass19 to grab a few caches around the Booromba Rocks for a bit of fun. We couldn't have asked for better weather for this walk. A cool start and clear blue sky all day as we trekked up the rocky hills and down the rocky dales, stopping when we needed to give the old knees a break, or take in some great vistas. Some of the areas required a bit of a scramble through thick undergrowth, but still worth it. Today we called ourselves the June Booroomba Bash (JBB or BB).
Arrived nearby and decided to drop the backpacks for this walk up the sloping rock to GZ. the views a the top were something else, thanks Captain Tomato and SecretSquirrel-BJC for bringing us to this area.

Decided to give Baroomba a go today. Found this with SA, Contesta and MB. I've been here caching many times with different cachers, however this is my first since becoming SocialClimber. TFTC
I should have read the instructions. Instead I made my ingress from the closest point to the cache and just foolishly bushbashed up to, around, and up the cliffs. I filmed it too for posterity, knowing I was doing something ill-advised https://youtu.be/a_yozINzz6Q
Found as part of the BCC Community Event walk. A true survivor amongst the burnt remains. TFTC and the view.

*Signed "BCC WALK" (Booroomba Community Celebration Walk) which included:

Well done to all the ammo can hiders in Namadgi, as they always survive even if the contents inside do not!
This one was very crispy, especially given the "Stump" it was originally hidden inside is completely burnt to a charcoal! The ammo can has suffered a bit of damage and is no longer watertight, so had some water in the bottom. But thankfully for previous finders they have put a new waterproof container inside, and the log is perfect!
Incredible spot, and awesome views now that they are not obstructed by nature!
TFTC, a favourite point from me

I have been looking forward to the "Booroomba Walk" Community Celebration event for a long time now! One of the best ideas for a CC event in my opinion, great to bring people out to a beautiful part of Namadgi and organise a group walk! Brought back memories of a Cankid event which was also fantastic!
It was an excellent day too, majority of the walk was sunny and clear, but when we reached the top it turned sour and the wind was horrendous and we even saw some light snow, which was unexpected at this time of year! As we retreated back down the mountain again it cleared up once more with blue skies again...! The weather couldn't make up it's mind!
An excellent day overall with a lovely walk and some great views. So many views that were previously obstructed have now been opened up by the recent fires, as have some of the walks to the caches. The undergrowth is still very low and easy to navigate around!
Thanks to 2LD for organising, and all the cache owners from today's finds!

Quick find, and good to see that this survived the fires. Thanks Captain Tomato and SecretSquirrel-BJC
Found with Loci612 and signed dsd or Darksidedan or AB or Adventure Boys or BCC to save space in the logbook thanks for the cache and the adventure.
This was a tough extra slog after our walk up to the rocks. The old partially burnt ammo can. Those things are tough. Thanks for another interesting location up on this ridge.
This was an additional find during our booroomba rocks community event. Joint group find. Signed as BCC

Sadly only had time for cache atop Baroomba Rocks. This was it. Lovely views and an easy find. TFTC
A big caching day around Booroomba with Contesta, StarsAlign + GeoPartner. A long walk in along Booroomba Rd from the locked gate at the carpark on Apollo Rd - Booroomba Rd is closed because the bridge over the second creek crossing was washed out in the floods. This adds a a nice few km as a warmup (and later, a cooldown) walk!
Up the Booroomba Rocks trail to the expansive, big sky views at the top, we then walked around, below and beyond the rocks picking up all the caches we could.
Great company and fantastic weather made for a very enjoyable day out.
As StarsAlign and Contesta discovered on their previous trip here, the cache has suffered in the fires. We found the replacement log was damp today so have replaced it again and put it into a new waterproof container inside the main cache container to keep it nice and dry for future finders (see action shot of log being replaced!)
Thanks, Captain Tomato and SecretSquirrel-BJC - great spot!

Yet another day in and around Booroomba Rocks this week cycling and hiking. With Booroomba Road indefinitely closed due to the recent floods (half the bridge washed away) it took me 27 minutes to cycling to the start of bush walk trail at the top carpark. The distance was 3.1km with an ascent of 137m and 50m descent on a remarkably warm morning at 9.30am.
With Contesta and GeoPartner we admired the views as she attended to this cache that I had previously found. We initially approached this cache the hard way before doubling back and coming down from the top. It was an interesting detour as the area is fire devastated with evidence of regrowth slower than in other parts of Namadgi.
Contesta found this cache a little worse for wear and the log incinerated. The ammunition container is still operational so she inserted a new log and plastic sleeve for the next cacher - see photos.
Amazing views of a near baron land from GZ.

TFTC First time out in these parts for a long time. Great to be back out here and enjoying this beautiful part of Namadgi once again. So peaceful on a crisp autumn day, the birds are singing, and muggles about.
Grateful thanks to CO for placing and maintaining the caches to entertain me on my journey.

This cache will remain off line until the Namadgi National Park re-opens. The park is currently closed to visitors due to the 2020 bush fires.
This cache appears to be inside the fire area, so I am disabling it for the time being.
Having returned from a fairly extreme trek to "South Canberra Views" to a point within 200 meters of this cache, I decided to race against the setting sun and try for "just one more".
Luckily, properly kitted out for bushbashing and taking the appropriate route this time, I was able to reach the cache easily.
There I found myself looking straight out at the cliff I had foolishly climbed to the South Canberra Views cache earlier - and realised just how daft that endeavour had been!
Fortunately, this cache left me near enough to the walking track to make an easy return to the carpark, just as night fell.
Thanks for the cache!

Heaps of bushbashing required to get to this place. Great views so it was worth the slog. TFTC Captain Tomato and SecretSquirrel-BJC.
By the time I found this cache, the fog had lifted and the sun was out, providing some great views. Many TFTC!
Walked up the slab according to instructions then pushed my way through the bushes to GZ (no worse than Collimate earlier today!). Luckily spotted this one very quickly. Didn't really have time to poke around the rocks, so headed back the same way.
Thanks,
Thanks,
A nice morning to get Jamming the Line and Vertical Bushwalking. Decided to leave the track and collect this one. The bush-bashing reminded me of some other Namadgi expeditions that I've done - it was quite thick right to GZ. The hint helped to narrow my options and I soon had the ammo can in hand. Not much view with the clouds still low, but the air was really fresh. TFTC CT
Well that sure was a lot of bush bashing and then some, lots of rain in 2016 means lots of plant growth! Found after much grunting, with cfd79 and Dazzpete. Nice rocks nice views. TFTC
Wow trail blazers .... a bit of bush bash & grunt & we all made it to the top. With debmex & cjd79
Found on a Canberra Bushwalking Club trip with JohnnyBoyACT. A nice spot. TFTC.
Found with Rhino3004. Awesome views south / southwest. This is what I love about caching; would never have known about this fantastic spot if it wasn't for its cache. TFTC
Challenging climb to say the least. I'm certain we chose one more difficult places to climb but was certainly entertaining. Once at the gz the cache was easily retrieved. Wonderful views! TFTC
Plans were set in place with StrangeTrousers and mtrax to make the nab on some of the more challenging and higher terrain caches around Booroomba Rocks. A lovely sunny but cool day made it the perfect day for geocaching out here!
Onward and upward we went to this one! Up we went over the massive granite slab where we paused at the top to checkout the spectacular views! But we had a cache to find so on we went for the tough wade through the thick shrubs at the top. We fanned out to try and locate the structure holding the cache when after a few moments, StrangeTrousers announced the find!
Made the most of the spectacular views by taking a much needed lunch and photo stop
Thanks for the hide, Captain Tomato-definitely giving a fave for this one!

another geo adventure with strangetrousers and speciman-X down in Namadji around Booroomba Rocks, perfect weather and good company

#2026 5 of 7 today.
A beautiful still, cool ANZAC day trip down to Booroomba Rocks with mtrax and SpecimenX. Perfect weather for some testing geocaches, and no shortage of them up here. A early missed turn lead us to Honeysuckle Creek first, so we decided to make the most of the stop to grab the EC details and a few nearby caches. Lots of campers up here today. From there it was up the winding track to a very busy car park at the base of the path. Clearly we weren't the only ones with thoughts enjoying the outdoors today. Once at the top, it wasn't that busy. A most enjoyable day with good company and fantastic views. We'll be back !
Finally at the top & made our way over to this cache. It's hard going thorugh the scrubby bush here. The rocks provided some relief. It took what seemed ages to get to gz, but I made the find here. Log signed, we decided to much on some lunch & enjoy the view for a bit.
Thanks for the cache Captain Tomato.

Found with TikvaNZ on an overcast and cool morning. This was the sixth cache that we found.
We walked along the trail from Booroomba's Crowning Glory to the clearing, then made a beeline for this cache. My knees were a bit wobbly and I fell behind TikvaNZ, who must be part rock hyrax, I reckon.
Near GZ I saw a location that matched the hint, and sure enough that's where the cache was. The cache container and contents were in excellent condition. I think the container within a container arrangement will keep this cache in good nick for decades. Not much chance of being muggled either, as TikvaNZ pointed out to me on the way back to the clearing.
XN SL.
Thx CT!

I made this cache way harder than it needed to be as I approached it from the bottom. I was about 80m away from the cache on the path so I took off into dense bush. Eventually got to rocks but soon realized the cache was at the top, getting there proved tough. Had to think it thru otherwise I could easy end up in a chopper. Tftc.
Wow - what an epic view! I wandered out this way with my good hiking buddy - Mountain Man Sam - and good thing I did, as it wasn't hard to get turned around amidst the rocks and scrub. We copped plenty of scratches and a few bruises getting to this one, but once there we appreciated the, well - the fact we made it A great hike, fantastic view, and awesome cache to tick off - thanks for bringing us here Captain Tomato
Last time we went to come down hear they were re grading the road so it was closed to cars and we did not have the spare time to walk the extra 3km each way. Today we knew our trip would be cut short again with after noon storms predicted and when we arrived in the parking area the rain started up and we thought we might have to fore go the two lower T4.5 caches but the weather held so we set about finding the caches at the upper level. A short bush bash to the slab and then a bit of trail at the top. We soon spotted the feature and nice to find another ammo can. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC
Found with family visiting from Melbourne. Beautiful day to be out and about. We haven't been in this area for years and it was great to be back. TFTC
4383. A fathers day outing with the family and much to my surprise, my request to visit this part of the world was granted.
I had to tackle this one solo and glad I approached it the way I did. I eventually arrived at GZ to find a cache in excellent order and to see some others trying to get to where I was from a different direction. They soon had a change of plans.
Thanks CT for the cache and the adventure.

The GPS had me walking in circles over ice covered rocks. I gave up the search and will return another day.
O....M....G this is by far the most difficult cache that I have had to find. I think I made this more difficult than it had to be. Coming down from Booroomba's Crowning Glory I was following the path to find a way to this GZ, there wasn't one! so I decided that as I was wearing my long pants today, I would make my own way there, wow, what a slog it was. My GPS was not wanting to give me a solid reading which ended with me walking around in every direction but towards the GZ. After finding the "Cubby", I knew I was on the right "track" (not literally), after doing some further boulder hopping, I made my way to what I was hoping was the GZ, because if it wasn't, I was going to make this one a DNF - luckily it was and I finally had the log in hand. I noticed the cache was looking a little bare so I dropped off a small duck. Although it was quite a challenge, the view was great - Thanks for dragging me up here - Docadoo or should that be Duckadoo
I have come to visit one of my favourite spots in Canberra (Honey Suckle Creek). I was planning to drive up and do the LEGOLAND (and others in the vicinity) caches but the gate was shut. A quick change of plan saw me completing the Namadgi Billabong cache and a climb up Booroomba Rocks to grab a few caches up there.
A bit of bush bashing required to get to this one. As I neared GZ, I got to a vantage point and sited the cubby hole. A quick find and great view. Thanks Captain Tomato.

A Canberra Bushwalking Club walk to Booroomba Rocks and the trip leader kindly allowed me some caching opportunities. Trip report at http://www.johnevans.id.au/wp/?p=3607 . Easy find. TFTC.
We found a semi-path to the granite slab and from there it was a quick dash up. And then a tuff bush bash yes. Not as bad as some we have done but still well-worth the terrain stars. Glad I had long sleeves on as those leaves are sharp. Eventually GZ was in sight and after a bit more vegetation surfing Loki got deposited on the rocks. Cache was quickly found and is in perfect condition - looks like it was placed yesterday! The views to the view was excellent and with the fast moving clouds, the interplay of sunlight being chased off by shade over the bald patch was awesome. Will have to head out there another trip if we can work out the way up but happy to have got this cache at least this visit.
Thanks Captain Tomato
Thanks Captain Tomato
Found at 8:54:00 AM.
Batgirl and I came up to Booroomba today for some puzzles and some fun. Once at the summit we decided to grab this cache first before bagging some more difficult caches.
Thanks Captain Tomato.

After a change of plans about just how hard a day we needed a trip out to Booroomba was just the ticket with Noikmeister. I think we left the trail a tad too early for this one and as usual discovered the hard way IN to GZ after.....more than 50m of bush-bashing and were correctly rewarded with some great views. However once that was done we did find the right way out again.
Found on a great day out with my mate Agent Basil....
10 finders for this cache so far (12 now with us) and I would bet each group has taken a different path to GZ. Ours sounded a little like Tankengines....left the track about 90 metres from GZ, made our way around the base and then a fun little scramble up a gap in the rocks. Cache found, returned to solid ground almost the same way, then a straight line bush base to the track. Simple. Well no, but all was ok.....apart from the undergrowth......but yes, you do get use to it after a while.
Once on the track, it was back down to the car and then one more stop on the way home.
Thanks CT.....

We had been blessed with cloud cover until we got close but it came out to raise the temperature somewhat. I suspect the top level approach is better than our blind grope along the bottom of the boulders. Thanks Sol for demonstrating such good "leading' skills. I'd still be looking for the "Real Rock" if it wasn't for you though one word of advice - a bit less skipping through the scrub whistling "the hills are alive". At least you didn't try to hold hands!
Saved this one on a phone on the off chance technology would work out bush. Oddly enough, there was better phone reception at Booroomba than in our house!
From the top camp, there was a pre-beaten path through some scrub to the slab. At the top of the slab, the digital compass pointed right of the rocky feature, so I followed it around... clambering up, over and around boulders, over scrub, and across logs. After a bit I got around a rocky wall, eventually to find the compass pointer turned significantly, pointing to a spot 11m away. GZ was up a cliff almost 10m above... oops Further right, a fun scramble upwards led to the top & a dead easy find - the cache was larger than the "camo" covering it!
Grabbed a pathtag to save it being stuck in the cache for who knows how long.
There was a pre-bashed path for the way back (took waaaaaay less time), the scrub here was pretty tame by Namadgi standards. Despite being longer, the alternate access was more fun! Thanks for the cache, it was a refreshing change from the typical "tupperware in a log 2m from a path"

Out this way early in the morning for an FTF down the hill, McPhan decided to make a find on this cache as well. Like Tankengine we also left the track early, rather than finding the big granite slab and going that way. Found it on the way back down which was much quicker and easier. Very impressive too. And lots of shrubs in flower this morning, including the spectacular Royal Grevillea. Thanks for a great location, Captain Tomato.
7277. [green]Ha. Going the recommended way is for wimps - or perhaps for those who do that thing that starts with p and ends with lanning. I do recommend reading and making sure the cache page is followed, that way you get two bites at the great granite slab.
Now besides the views the highlight of this cache was watching Mrs W sign the logbook while balancing on a rock and occasionally doing the chicken dance to keep her balance. Very balletic and reminded me strongly of a certain pupil of Mr Miyagi. [/green]
[blue]Thanks for the cache Captain Tomato and the Daniel [/blue]

And what a nice view it is! Mind you, I did the mistake of leaving the path too early... It was less than 100m to go, how hard can it be? Well, I certainly didn't come back that way! The way back was much nicer! That's two great caches in 2 days! (well more than that actually), but I really enjoyed this one. I also continued on to the top, to catch the cliff views as well! Thanks SSBJC an CT!
Out with Cankid, nemo4 and Captain tomato today. This was our second . After a short bush bash got to this gz and found quickly. I didnt look at the view really here as I was to busy replacing the cache. Now is a big ammo. Hooray! TFTC
(See previous cache)
This was the next one up on the caching trip and some maintenance was need to be done. The bush bash was fun but it was not too bad compared with what was to come. A nice quick find at GZ then and the container was replaced. TFTC Captain Tomato!

Another cache I found today. Nice spot to retrieve the cache and great views over Canberra. Thanks
Cooeeee a *FTF* at 7:10am.
Heading south south of Tharwa in the dark I saw 2 cars approaching me from behind at great speed. Got to Apollo road, they turned up too, and took off; oh well, I'll let them get the FTF if they really want to, and collect a kangaroo or two or four! I carried on up the road, turned off to the Booroomba rocks car park, more kangaroos and go tto the carpark - no cars! I wonder where they went????
It was still quite dark, so off I went up the hill, step after step. Got to the "junction" then took off to see the view of the city's lights in the dark - very nice.
Then headed off to the hill I thought the cache was. huh, I'm getting further away> Oh, THAT hill.
Back I went, up the slab, and then the 50m bush bash. Came out to some nice views and within 2 mins had the cache. A lovely spot, typical SS-BJC. Magnificent.
Thanks CT (& SS-BJC) for a great spot, and a pleasant pre-dawn walk.
