The walk up here was worth it, although views not as good as hoped today. Cache soon in our hands.
Tftc. It was easy to find and hard for waiting without muggles Greetings from Germany
After a realy nice ( bit step) walk a stunning view!! Stayed at nice little campground at Okarito. Forgot the pen (sorry for that) so made a foto-log. Tftc!!
#3958 Today is day 15 of my geocaching vacation in New Zealand. I walked some of the tracks in Franz Josef and wandered around the town. It was still early, so I decided to drive to Whataroa and Okarito.Found it! Wow, what a hike! Great 360 panoramic view indeed! So worth it! FP added.TwoSharpe, thank you for the cache!-crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan on October 15, 2024 @ 17:52:15[GC4WART] The Greatest View (Westland) was a D1.5/T2.5 Small Traditional Cache at the time of finding.
Amazing variety of plant life on the way. Fantastic views at the top, but sadly the mountains were covered in cloud so no view that way. A quick find - tftc
Thank you for the cache!Another day exploring and geocaching in New Zealand with my bestfriend geocacher Ironford. We left Hokitika in the morning and travelled to Okarito Lagoon for some kayaking, which was really fun, and we had a great guide and learned a lot. The wetlands were amazing, a totally new type of landscape for me. We also climbed the Okarito Trig. The forest was wonderful, and we could hear so many bird sounds. We found the "national" blue mushroom which was on a NZ stamp!Greetings from Prague, Czech Republic ??
The weather cleared out here but unfortunately the mountains remain hidden. Still worth coming up. Saw few blue mushrooms too!TFTC
The first fine day in ages brought heaps of muggles to admire the view - had to use all my wits to sign the log without arousing suspicion! TFTC.
Super beautiful walk up there, saw a robin on the walk, native fish in a stream, tiger beetle larvae everywhere. And then at the summit a fantastic panorama. Awesome! TFTC
Just wow!! A morning walk from the campsite up to the trig point. Feeling a bit tired after lots of walking yesterday & the old arthritis was playing up. Mr Curzzz stride ahead & I struggled to keep up. But it was certainly worth the effort for that 360*view. Astounding. This has got to be one of our favourite views in NZ & definitely worth a favourite point. Thanks so much for placing this cache here. Loved it.
Found this well maintained cache today after a nice walk through the park.N Kiwi unfortunately Thanks and greetings from the Netherlands
Mooie wandeling naar dit fantastische uitzichtpunt. Was even zoeken naar de cache, maar toch gevonden. Uit:TB. TFTC, greetings from the Netherlands.
Arriving at the trig, two tourist couples were taking photos and admiring the view. I had a little chat, read the signs and awaited eagerly for their departure so I could locate the cache. It actually took a little bit to find the cache, after glancing around the hint area I didn't see anything so I began scouring around and under the platform. No luck. Determined to not log a DNF I got on my hands and knees and virtually stuck my head into the hint area. Moving an object out the way I struck gold. Yes!! Cache is in good nick, I did put the logbook in a ziplock just in case as it did not have one and I have left a Travel Bug for the next person to get up here! Awesome view on a clear day and interesting reading on the signs at the top. The track is well maintained which makes for an easy walk and it isn't too steep, I got to the top sooner then I thought. Also FTF since the replacement of the cache! Thanks for the hide!
We thought it was worth trying to find this one as I could see the c/o had not done anything over the last 4 months of dnf's but no avail. C/O needs to sort this out or it needs to be removed! I even shone a torch under the platform and it's not there! On another note after the 20 minute walk sign the path about a third of the way up has been washed away considerably and may not be suitable for certain pushchairs ( worth bearing in mind)
It's gone missing. If any visitors want to help replace it please PM otherwise we will look at it at some point down the line. Really don't want to archive this one
As the last cachers have already written, I couldn't find the cache either.

Well I didn’t but took a picture as it seems to be missing . I looked under both sides of the entrance of the platform. I don’t usually log a cache I didn’t find but in this case I did because I worked so hard going uphill to the cache in very hot weather.
Note: my phone gps said .4 to the cache but in reality it was 1.3 each way….hello from USA

The can actually seems to be gone. Is a photolog ok?

The container appears to be gone. The hint seemed to be quite specific, but we came up empty.
We went to Okarito for the afternoon after having visited the Franz Josef glacier in the morning. At Franz Josef the first clouds appeared, but here the sky was still blue.
After the wharf, I walked up here. The effort was worth it, really nice views. Unfortunately not able to find the cache, despite the precise hint. The box might be gone and I hadn’t any replacement with me.
Anyway thank you for the cache and happy new year

What a great spot. Amazing view and a quick find which is great as a very popular place.
A nice walk up to the trig on a windy Saturday afternoon. Very impressed with all the bird life! Unfortunately the mountains are hiding behind clouds. Great views of the coastline though. Thanks for placing the cache
A stunning spot to stop and soak in my surroundings. Spent about an hour basking in the afternoon sunshine and watching slivers of the alps reveal themselves periodically. TFTC.
Found on a wee walk while on my 50th birthday on a very quiet west coast holiday.

On a beautiful trip visiting some parts of the west coast. We are very lucky with this gorgeous weather perfect for exploring rain forests, rivers, glaciers, beaches and other geological treasures.
Had no trouble in finding this one. Strangely, this cache doesn't have a container any more. It is in a plastic bag with some stones in it. Unfortunately we didnt have any extra container to replace. hopefully CO can have a look at it soon.

Walked up here while in “town” for a few hours. Great views north and south although not into the distant mountains !
Thanks
Thanks
A lovely walk with the Sidetrack Ladies after biking the Wilderness Trail. Good cache
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I are on a bit of a Christmas Roadtrip from Auckland to Ingill & back ... we'll be doing a few geocaches on our travels ... this being the 112th cache of hopefully many ... we had been spent Christmas in Invercargill & were now heading back to Auckland, taking the scenic route ... we were now heading North, doing caches as we go ... good to add another 'smiley face' to the tally ... TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #1,846 for us.
Nice spot on a hot and semi-sunny day. Great views of the surrounding lagoons and ocean but the alps are in the clouds today. Cache found easily, but left the pen in the car! Urgh... I keep telling sveppi we should have a pen in every pack. We are not using our usual.pack today... TFTC.
Thanks for the cache. We liked those pebble stones numbers along the way! No views though since it was really misty and cloudy. Greetings from Czech Rebublic! ️
I think, odd, obvious place to find, but not sure. Put replacement paper and visited with two trackables. Not an expansive view for us today..
We are staying at Franz Josef for the week and doing a few day trips to grab caches we have previously not had time to stop for or detour to. Today we are caching around Whataroa and Okarito
It's many years since I walked to this trig and it's good to see the vast improvement in the track over that time. I expected it to be much busier than it was considering the number of cars in the car park but we had the platform to ourselves and met few others on the track.
Thank you TwoSharpe for the encouragement to revisit this spot.

This is our last day caching before heading home again. It's been many, many years since I visited this place and some real effort has gone into making it more visitor friendly. Plenty of cars on the car park made us expect to meet a few people on the way. Not so. They might have opted for the Pack Track instead. Although we couldn't figure out a common denominator we tried to spot all the numbers laid out in while marble pebbles along the track. A few we couldn't find but 1 to 12 is most likely. Great views and a lovely walk. Thank you TwoSharpe for the reason to be here once more.
Well that was a good wee walk to a place well worth visiting.
And the rain has stopped
All my pens seem to have migrated from the daybag back into the car, so had to photo the log.
Cheers and thanks,
S.t.

Second week of school holidays and off on a small family camper van holiday between kids football games & practices! West Coast here we come.
After a rainy night in Hokitika time to head further south towards the glaciers.
Ducked up here for a look; some lunch in the carpark and a walk to the Trig which had been recommended to us. A great spot. Lovely walk & views at the top. Quickly found cache, signed and returned before muggles who we passed on the track arrived. Cheers!

An enjoyable walk up to the trig. Lots of people out today so spent quite some time waiting for my opportunity to find the cache. I didn't mind one bit as the view was just that great. TFTC
TFTC. Beautiful day. We found this after a helicopter ride up around Mount Cook, which was an awe-inspiringly expensive, awe-inspiring trip. Worth every NZ dollar.
Great lookout. Too bad the most blocked our view of the mountains but still had the lagoon view. Nice quick find of the cache. Tftc
Came up here twice this morning... Sucker for punishment! The second time the views were stunning. Found the cache easily. TFTC
Came up here after realising the hike to 3 mile lagoon would take to long. Great views on a clear day. Signed as tbnz. Tftc
Thanks previous finders for maintaining. We'll be by next month also, to check things
After a 45 minute slog uphill I was questioning the reasoning for me doing this stuff late in the day.....but the view from the top was totally worth it. How cool! And, we were blessed with a KIA landing nearby and entertaining us. But I find it difficult to imagine pushing a stroller up here....ugh. Anyway, two sets of eyes looking for 15 minutes and a DNF here. FF65 and I both agreed that this is too nice of a spot to NOT have a cache, so I dug in my bag of goodies and found a replacement cache and a new log. This one is now back in action - hopefully more visitors will enjoy this beautiful hike and view! What a unique locale...!!!
No luck with this one.
Scoured the area identified in a spoiler image and surrounds.

Searched high and low - no sign of it - clue wasn’t very helpful as there was nothing underneath the platform
Found it with ICOne and the Black Cockatoo’s. Our first in NZ. What a great little hidden treasure this place this is. The walk to this cache is totally worth it with great views of the beach and nearby lagoon.
Yes, this was the greatest view at the Westcoast. The Cache was easy to find.

We turned off the highway to visit Okarito and decided to take the walk up to the trig point. We spotted an ice cream van in the car park and decided to treat ourselves to a blueberry ice cream before the walk in case he wasn't there on our return (which he wasn't). We can honestly say that they were the best ice creams we've had.
It was a steady climb to the top where the view was amazing although cloud cover meant the mountains were not clearly visible. It did take us a while to find the cache, but with no muggles at this time, we were able to have a good look around, although the cache was felt rather than seen.
A great spot, favourite point given.

I moved my snail shell down to Franz Joseph from Hokitika yesterday for a few days lapping up the Westland's wet sunshine. Today was a venture to the north. THERE IS CHEAPER DIESEL IN WHATAROA BY 18 CENTS/LITRE THAN IN FRANZ JOSEPH.
What a great view from up here, or it would have been if there wasn't so much low cloud about.
Cheers for the cache.

After staying at the campground we did the walk up to the viewpoint this morning. Great view. TFTC
