Staying at Mt Gambier, we did a trip to Port MacDonnell today and visited Hells Hole on the way. I have cobbled some answers together and hope that they are OK. I had no signal at GZ and had to guess what was required here. This is a very interesting place. The divers are very brave. I know my daughter has done some cave diving and the idea really scares me.

Found myself down in the SE this week, so stopped by here for a re=visit, after having been here in 2013.A great spot! A lot more tourist friendly than 11 years ago...Answers sent.TFTEC

We are travelling with richlink on our Annual Caravan Geocaching road trip, using geocaching as our guide. We are in Beautiful Mt Gambier for a few days, soaking up the amazing things this area has to offer. We especially love the bush, the back roads, and the wild southern seas. Thank you for another great Earth Cache Team Crackers. LNCU.

With the Airshow in full swing in our home town of Lara we planned a weekend away in Mount Gambier to get away from the craziness and noise.
Todays plans of visiting the caves in Tantanooloa where changed when we got a call this morning saying our booking was postponed due to their unavoidable closure today. That left the afternoon to find somewhere to visit with the family. This was the chosen place with the Earthcache being something that took the interest of Sims_family mum. After a warm but easy walk we were soon standing over one Hell of a hole. Thankfully the fencing looks like it would keep anyone from accidentally falling into the hole these days I imagine it wasn't always that way..
Thank you Team Crackers for bringing us here we did enjoy our visit

I have been Geocaching for the last year as part of team Dromaniax. We have enjoyed the Geocaching caching around a lot of Victoria in that time. From our first trip up to the Murray River, the next trip to Lake Eildon and the area around Buxton, an epic trip to the Little Desert to attack the This is SA series, then a great trip with our father to the High Country in Victoria, a trip to the Mornington Peninsula and a trip to the Albury-Hume Reservoir area.

I finally decided to set up my own account and am claiming all the caches I have found as part of Dromaniax.

Thank you for this Earthcache Team Crackers

It certainly is a hell of a hole, (would hold a lot of rum). Thanks for bringing us to somewhere we would have otherwise not known about.

04-Dec-22
It was threatening to rain when we arrived here but we managed to check out the hell of a hole and find the cache nearby before making our way back. These are the sorts of places that geocaching introduces you to. Great location, thank you.

We took a detour to visit Hell's Hole - unfortunately we all couldn't visit the sinkhole as the 4 legged member wasn't permitted. Answers from Ol sent to CO, photo from Wal while waiting

Plans had been made for a weekend away to find the This is SA series of caches in Little Desert. We had planned that AusFox;, Sims_family and my muggle brother. Unfortunately for AusFox;, caught the dreaded Vids and wasn't up to the weekend. So my muggle brother and I headed off for a long weekend of camping and caching.

The muggle brother loves Earthcaches, and so we stop to find as many as we can along the way.

After driving through a lot of pine plantations, it was a pleasure to come across the remnant of native bushland and this spectacular cenote.

We enjoyed the short walk in and took some time to check out the fascinating geological structure. This area of South Australia certainly has some significant sites to visit.

Thank you, Team Crackers, for this Earthcache and the time and effort you put into creating and maintaining it.

That is certainly one hell of a hole. Wow the view from the platform was breath taking. And I could only imagine the divers being lowered into the water as none were here today. TFTC

So we did it, we took the plunge and early last year made arrangements to sell our little hobby farm in South Gippsland and ‘do a big lap’.
No full lap is complete without a lap of the little island first.
So after tidying up our affairs and putting everything into storage, we celebrated Christmas with our families and hit the road.

We recently spent 7 magnificent weeks in beautiful Tasmania, then we just did a quick trip down the west coast of boring old Victoria, making our way to South Australia, crossing the border before Covid strikes again.
Looking forward to slowing things down as we spend time in SA with no return date planned.
Thanks for being one of the CO’s who supplied us with a cache to do on the way.
This one was most enjoyable.

A nice walk around the loop today and something I never knew was here. Answers collected and photo attached

Today was another day of cleaning up new caches and a few older caches around Mount gambier area since I was last here. Even enjoyed a walk with Muff1 for some of the day. Total of 39 finds for the day.

Thanks for the cache

We visited your earthcache on Tuesday 19th Jan, on a three week holiday (Victoria Escape!) to SA. We stayed in Adelaide, Mt Gambier and Portland.

We've been to Mt Gambier many times before but mostly BK (before kids) and BC - Before Caching which we started in 2016.

We used Mt Gambier as a base for 5 nights to explore our favourite areas of Port McDonnell, Beachport and Southend. When my mother heard we were visiting the area, she asked me to take photos of Southend, Millicent and Rendelsham, as when she was a girl she visited these areas (I only recently came to know this before our trip!) as her step grandfather had a sheep farm at Rendelsham.

Of all our past visits to Mt Gambier we had never been to this location - which we found in an article on the internet the night before and were glad to see that there was an EC here. (usually we find these locations by geocaching, this was an exception)

We visited this on our way to Portland for a 2 night stopover before going home.

Even though Mt Gambier is only about 100kms from Portland we spent the whole day getting there looking at various things along the way such as Port McDonnell, Ewan Ponds, Piccaninie ponds etc and some other sink holes.

We also visited a nearby sink hole called Caroline sinkhole that has no EC that we also found out about in that internet article - which was lucky as there was no sign posts for it until you got there.. perhaps the locals want to keep these places to themselves!

Thanks for the EC Team Crackers, it was a fun one and an interesting spot.

Our travel companions are several Travel Bugs.
Team Honda thank the CO's for placing the caches to make our trip very enjoyable.
Glad we did this today as tomorrow the walking trail will be very slippery after the rain today.

A beautiful day in early Spring to try for a few caches in the back roads south east of Mount Gambier.

Yet another stunning sinkhole to visit among many in the south east.

Found with hevwalker, while TT016, Princess Aria and Little GoosE waited in the car park. What an amazing place to visit......and wow that is a big deep hole...I can understand why the divers come to explore this special place. Thanks for bringing us here. TFTEC. Our amazing S.A. police officers were down at the carpark when we returned checking if we had seen a particular vehicle which had come through the pines from Victoria....they are doing their best to stop the Victorians running the border....we told them we'd let them know if we came across them.

Quick find while driving around the area tidying up some local caches that I hadn't done yet.
Had the go ahead to lo from the owners. I tried to fly my drone over the cenote for a different perspective but unfortunately a technical glitch put cancelled that idea.

NyssaFlutterby, wombles and co, membsec and I were on a grand adventure along the Great Ocean Road, a trip that has been planned for us for a year.
We pulled up and made our way up along the track, checking the signs as we went. Arriving at “Hell Hole”, we may have been slightly taken aback by the gigantic “cage”, but wandered on in for a look.
Well it seems we may have been a little deceived about this spot, coming away with incorrect ideas about its condition.
Interesting to find more out since logging our answers.
Thanks for the cache Team Crackers.

Found on our QQ GOR road trip with 1minniemoo nyssaflutterby and Mrs Membsec. Logs signed with QQ to save time and space.

We discussed our answers and 1mm has sent the answers to the co for our group.

We are on a road trip from Melbourne to Adelaide on the Great Ocean Road (GOR). Membsec from Tassie, Nyssaflutterby, 1MinnieMoo and Wombles and Co all from Queensland. We met at the airport, late due to Jetstar’s strike (4 hours delayed for the Queenslanders) and then hit the road. We have a good selection of caches that we really want to get, so many in a short amount of time.

Day3

Wow, we weren’t too sure if the platform would take all of us at one time but we took it in turn to view! Interesting feature. Answers have been sent.

What a Hell of a Hole, poor buggers that did come across it in the dark. What an amazing area we have in the South East of South Australia, it seems like any chance of a hole in the ground has something amazing about it.
Bumped into some tourists on our way down the hill, tried telling how impressive the hole was but I do t think they really understood is. Great set up with the safety platform over the hole, still felt a bit uncomfortable hanging out over the long drop.
Thanks Team Crackers for the cache.

Today with a long weekend in Mount Gambier, we were doing a vertical access course. We had practiced some abseiling in Carolines Sinkhole yesterday, and today, it was time to do some abseiling and combine with a scuba cave dive in Hells Hole.

During the rigging up and preparation phase, I managed to read the sign and answer the required questions for this EarthCache. Then it was time to pay attention at the sinkhole's formations primarily on the ascents, and it wasn't easy climbing in a drysuit making small strides as we went up. Answers sent to the CO; It's an awesome location isn't it! Thanks Team Crackers.

Hi there Team Crackers.

Today we decided to find some caches to the south of Mount Gambier, and to take our Really Awesome Machine (RAM) on to some forest tracks.

We enjoyed our outing and found 7 caches (& DNF'd 4) in our cache run today. Thanks for placing this cache here, without geocaching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places while we meander our way around Australia.

Regards
Ian and Penny.

Down this way for work and showing a work colleauge some of the sights around the Mount.
We visit the same type of structure just outside town the night before so decided to show him one with water.
So different from my last visit when the forest was still here.
I think the guy I was with said "snake" about every 30 seconds.

A great spot I’d been to for Satan’s bum v1. The dive platform is s beauty.
The water was clear as usual. AstroTom has dived here with the local dive group.

Found on the Parkville mega event round trip. This cache added to the experience.

Thanks Team Crackers. and clear skies from TeamAstro. [^] Cache the planet.

A very interesting EC in the area around the Mount. I can see why it has so few visitors though. It's a bit of a detour but well worth it.

Another interesting spot that we didn’t know about except for geocaching telling us it was here. Found it while on our way to Mt Gambier.
As we arrived we saw a mob of emus leaving, it would have been interesting meeting them at GZ. Anyway, we made our way there and were amazed at the sight. We answered the questions and learnt a little about why the hole is here. We also grabbed the traditional hide.
Great location and well worth the visit.

Third day in Portland with BettyBoo3747, The Morris, and beckNmonts.
Today we headed for southern SA and a dive in Ewen's Ponds. Of course we had to have lunch in Port MacDonald. (and grab a few caches)

Been a while since I have dived in Hell's Hole. Last time we wandered thru the forest for a while as the map we had did not have the new forestry roads on it! Today was a lot easier. The trees have been cleared out and the hole stood out for miles around!
Also there was no platform here. All the ladders, etc had to be brought in and an A frame setup. This platform is lovely!
It is still a lot of work for what is really not such a flash dive.

Thanks for putting the earthcache here, it brought us back to this area.
Thanks, Robmc.

What a fantastic spot! I’m tossing up if I would like to dive here. I would of course like the diving part. What I’m worried about is not getting back up. It’s a long way to climb, and climbing in a wetsuit isn’t fun. Climbing the caving ladder for approx 4m out of UnderworldII wasn’t fun. I wasn’t in a wetsuit doing that. Can somebody just install a solid metal ladder for me? TFTC Team Crackers

We are in Portland for a few days with Robmc, BettyBoo and beckNmonts. Today we are heading to Port MacDonnell for some caching and Ewens Ponds for a swim.

We took a slight detour to show beckNmonts the site and the earth cache was a bonus. The area sure has changes since we were last here. Answers are on their way and I think you'll like the photos.
It was a fun day thanks Team Crackers

Out and about from our digs in Portland, we visited this spot on our way home from Mt Gambier. Answers have been sent

An amazing little spot in the middle of what's now a moonscape, with all the surrounding pines harvested for miles around.

I know someone who regularly dives sinkholes and caves in this part of the world, I wonder if she's been here.

Thanks for the EC.

Just returned from my holiday and catching up on the logs from my fantastic trip. It was a hell of a time getting to it. We could have parked nearby and walked but our navigator was intent on getting us closer we got an exciting ride to within 215 feet. The hole is very impressive and totally unexpected. The signs were well done and the trail very interesting. Even the wallabies were out. Great location. Thanks

Suscoe was enjoying a few days at Mount Gambier and surrounds this week leading up to Easter.
We experienced a strange but familiar pattern of weather with a storm last weekend, with hail, rain and strong winds and towards the end of the week we had calm and sunny days. Just like home.
Anyway, we enjoyed the caching, so many different locations and interesting hides.
Well done to all the cachers for the work done in creating and hiding their caches for us to find.

Thanks to Team Crackers for this Earth Cache, we enjoy our trips in here on the few occasions we have been.
Forestry have cleared the pines and it is so different to what we remember, sad in a way.

Have emailed the info to the CO.

Just noticed we had forgotten to log this one, answers were sent to CO back in Feb with the all clear to log, Interesting location came with a muggle friend and on her last visit the drive in was all pine forest now all harvested but this oasis remained. Great to see some off the track sinkholes in the natural stte rather than set up for tourist friendly. TFTC Team Crackers

We had a week long trip to Portland and SA for the School Holidays.
Everything was pretty wet from the recent rain but the caching was enjoyable.
We were surprised at the lack of info signs to here.
Maybe the forestry don't want people knowing about Hell's Hole?
Amazing view at GZ.
Thanks for the cache hide.

A lovely afternoon to be out wandering the natural bushland on our way to Nelson for dinner with the family.
TT016 (daughter; S-I-L & granddaughter) had visited this area on earthcache day so were keen to show me.
We spent sometime here looking at the wildflowers and other areas of natural beauty. I answered the questions & submitted them along with a photo.
Cache is logged with CO permission. Thanks Team Crackers for bringing us to this lovely environment.

Somehow missed logging this one last week with the rest. Not sure how because we LOVED it!
With a long weekend we thought we'd make the most of it with a roadtrip from Central Vic to Mount Gambier with a few detours.
We did 7 Earcthcaches over 4 days. The others were places we planned to visit anyway but this one we had not read about in any tourist info and discovered solely via this EC.
I wasn't sure what to expect especially as we almost missed the Rock at the entrance and then there certainly didn't look to be anything of interest nearby.
A short walk in, with several comments between ourselves wondering if this was worth the detour, we turned a corner and there it was.
I'm not sure if it's me getting old or Geocaching's influence but I am really appreciating nature and it's unique beauty these days.
Thank you for bringing us here. Well worth the detour!

Logged with permission.

Finally on my way home from Mount Gambier, heading for Vermont in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, sort of a round about trip across the coastline and somewhat inland chasing a few earthcaches.
An eerie spot as you walk in through the pine trees and then when you arrive at the GZ the thought is something like "Bloody hell". Magic spot.
Also spotted a couple of emus on the hill to the south of the car park.
Thanks for placing this cache Team Crackers

6th find for today on the 7th day of our road trip from Melbourne to Adelaide via the great ocean road. We will of spent 9 days travelling between Melbourne and Adelaide with many of those days being in the vicinity of the great ocean road using earth caches to guide us through this geological wonderland.

After a fantastic stay at the lighthouse keepers cottage at cape Nelson, we were sad to say good bye and off to Mount Gambia we headed. On our way there we stopped at the petrified forest and a number of caves in the caves district. Princess Margaret Rose Caves for their stalagmite formations, Narracourt Caves for one of the best fossil finds the Australia and Hell's hole which we found in the middle of the forestry.

Thanks for bringing us here, if it wasnt for the GPS coordinates we would of missed this place. In fact we did, and had to turn back around. After hobbling up to GZ with a sprained ankle each we looked at the Divers sign and though hell no.... we later found out that they were talking about actual cave diving.... not jumping off the platform.

We love this area and have been to this amazing place a few times but today we came for a souvenir for the 7 Souvenirs of August, and an Adventure with the girls. This was the first time both girls were able to walk the circuit/trail here by themselves, our youngest Madi was Navigator for walk. We all had a great time, spent an hour here on a lovely sunny winters day.

510th Cache Find Smile On an early Saturday morning, sun was shining...yes that's right, the sun was shining so we decided to head out this way for some caching. Have been here many times now for various reasons, we don't think of this as Hell's Hole unless we were to fall in but its actually just so peaceful & beautiful out there. While walking to the platform we came across some muggles having a look. Not long & they were off so we could then continue our questions. Thank you for the Earth cache & glad to be brought out this way again. TFEC Smile

More like Heaven than Hell I've visited this beautiful hole many times and owning a geocache here now gives me a good excuse to continue to visit it. I enjoy sitting and watching the resident falcon and gazing into the beautiful water below. I managed to find drivers here on one visit climbing a tiny caving ladder from the water to the platform, must be quite a effort after diving and then dragging yourself and all your diving up.
Thanks for placing this earthcache here and your quick response to my email
