On holiday over from England visiting my son and grandchildren. Not sure I like all this poking about in rock crevices, but I have a stick to protect me from the wildlife! Easy find.

18-Oct-17
The trek was fun and the find was an easy one... to retrieve was a bit of a challenge. After rolling my ankle very badly trail running a week ago had to work out a way of climbing without injuring it again. The handy placed tree certainly helped. Cache in good order. TFTC

#3764 (6 of 11 today)

Today is another day I need to target in my quest to have five finds on every calendar day by the end of this year (being one find for each year I'll have cached).
Now I only need two finds today, but as I have often done, I decided to hit this day hard.

Went for eleven caches around Springwood (the lair of **Wayward Woman** and **bikerbuddy** which should mean quality caches) and found all eleven - HUZZAH!
###END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION###
By the time I'd climbed up to this cache from my last find, I realised I'd made the right decision to turn back when I did. Breathing through the coughing was making the ascent difficult when it should have been easy-ish.

At least all the substantial climbing is done - relatively flat from here on.

Quick find here as the cache wasn't well camouflaged. Made the grab and completed signing duties. Then did my best to camo it better on the replace. Hmmm, still a tad obvious...

Love the cache spot thank you

Headed up to Springwood on the train for a half day of caching on local trails. It wasn't too hot thanks to heavy cloud cover and the occasional sprinkle, and I managed to find all the caches I sought with minimal trouble. As always, thanks to all COs for placing and maintaining their caches and contributing to another adventure!

Followed what seemed like a geotrail toward the cache, and managed to spot the cache quickly once I was in the right place. Great little hide. Took the TB, TFTC

Bikerbuddy & I decided on a fairly leisurely day, with just a few local caches that I haven't been out to find yet. This one was to be the first. As it was, I was feeling tired and getting hot, so we decided to abandon caching after this one and just head home to watch a movie instead. So it also turned out to be the last find for the day Big Grin

Although there were some Little Athletics people in the park, I parked outside the gates in case they packed up and left, locking the gate behind them. They were still there when we walked back, so in hindsight, I could have risked the parking.

We had a short walk through a nice, easy track to get to GZ. I turned a 'corner' at where I thought the cache might be, and saw it staring out at me. The last visitor (early December) had left it out in the open. After signing the log, we replaced the container back much further & put the camo back in front. I left a trackable in the container.

Thanks Smile

*** MY FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY CACHE *** Cache # 4426

The WaywardWoman’s cache Five Years of Caching was published this morning to celebrate our start in 2010. She asked me where we should put it and I said it should be as close as we could to our first cache find, #22 AEIOU. When we did the cache in 2010 we hadn’t decided on caching names. I joined the site and used my own name as a caching name. It was three days later that I decided I would use ‘bikerbuddy’ as a name instead. I didn’t know I could just change my profile name at that time, so I started a new account. That’s why my profile shows a starting date later than our first cache. The picture of our first log also shows that we dated the log on the 16th, which was wrong.

I knew a good spot along the track for the anniversary cache, so we placed it last week and asked Riblit for a delayed publication. Congratulations to lobsterknees for his first FTF on the cache. I had been holding off “Human Trek Port” for a while, and I now wanted something to mark today with a find, so giving lobsterknees a find in return seemed like the obvious thing to do.

I’d been in Sydney today with Garks attending the Pop Art exhibition. WaywardWoman and NickoHeap had remained at home, since NickoHeap had a shift at McDonalds in the afternoon and I wasn’t sure when I would get back. So they went and to visit #22 AEIOU in the morning without us. NickoHeap wanted to mark the occasion. By pure coincidence it turned out that Alnic39 (possibly on his attempt for FTF trip for our cache) also visited this cache and removed the logbook in the morning since it was in poor condition. I think between us we will probably try to maintain this old cache in the future.

I arrived home from Sydney and waited for the WaywardWoman to return with NickoHeap from Penrith. She has done this cache before, so I thought she could drop me at the start. But they were a bit late so she was in a rush and dropped me at Lucinda Avenue, at the entrance to her own “Birdwood Gully Track” cache. I admit, I’d done no planning or research for this cache, I just loaded it and expected that where I was being dropped was a good spot.

So I started down the track and got to the bottom of the gully. All seemed to be going well until I realised that the cache was far above me to the left. I cut across the creek and started moving uphill without a track. With about 160 metres to go before the cache I hit a cliff line. I went left but found no way up, so I doubled back and had to walk some way before I could make it to the next level, only to find another cliff line. This one and the next were easy enough to negotiate, until I was finally about 60 metres from the cache.

I was soon in the right spot and found the cache easily. With caching duties finished I contemplated returning the way I had come, until I noticed a track just behind the rock at this cache. It was a well-used track so I decided to follow it. I soon found myself at the top of a cliff line which I followed, and then saw a field of mown grass. Where the hell was I? I clambered down from the rocky platform, walked across the field and turned to see a view I was familiar with. I had come from the left. To my right was the way down to my own cache, Mountains Murder Mystery #1. I was in Tom Hunter Park! How could I be ‘local’ and be so stupid? (For any contemplating this cache, Tom Hunter Park is the way to go!)

[Got caught by the log length limit - who thought of that!?]

I walked up the stairs and took a rest on some benches. I had a long walk home so I decided to call the WaywardWoman. I got her voicemail. I called her several times but no answer. So I started walking. I called Toriaz who was on a train from work, and talked with her for some of the way back. When I finally got back to Hancock House I discovered that the WaywardWoman’s phone battery had been dead.
So, there you have it: the story of my fifth year of caching. It was probably the longest walk I can imagine doing for a cache so close to home. Thanks lobsterknees!

Not the first time I've been this way hunting for a cache, only this time it was a little further along the track. Nice views around here.

Found with pjmpjm during an afternoon of caching in the lower Blue Mountains.

Very nice cache and location, a very usable track suitable for families. Cache is unlikely to be muggled and should be there for a long time.

Thank you for the neat cache.

Found with rogerw3 during an afternoon of caching in the lower Blue Mountains.

We've walked this trail in the past, looking for other caches, and it was beautiful today, with not a soul around.

This is an especially suitable outing for geofamilies. There are no dangerous drops and the area is clean, after you leave the sports field, without a trace of rubbish.

Nice location for the hide, well-protected and just enough out-of-the-way. All was OK and in good condition.

TNLNSL.

Many thanks to lobsterknees for another Blue Mountains area geocache.

A *FTF* for my 1001st cache. Can't ask for more than that. I like this area. I spent many a year bringing azazzlenic to Little A's. The boy's only participated in the U6's. Never went this far down this track before. This cache was more challenging than I had anticipated. I enjoyed finding and extracting this cache. A hint of Badman in this one. TFTC.

#2572- Joint second to find with NickoHeap and Garks at 4.00 pm.
I spotted this one about three quarters of an hour after it was published at about 11.00. Now normally I would be at home and I would wander off to look, but today I was in Rooty Hill meeting a friend for lunch. When I arrived home at 3.15, there still had not been a find logged, so I rustled the boys, Garks and NickoHeap, just home from school, to go for a look.
I must confess, I didn't do my homework first and the way we went turned out to be much more difficult than I had expected- There is definitely an easier way than coming in from Lucinda ave, but at least I got to check my cache on the way past. The uphill on the other side of the creek really tested 1) my sore knee and 2) the asthma which I rarely get, but when I do.... When we got to GZ, I spotted the obvious spot and NickoHeap was happy to do the retrieval. Congrats to bisygisy who made it there 5 hours before us.
A fun cache, a great little spot, but I was happy for a shower and a rest after a busy day. Thanks
