Up in the Coromandel today on a road trip and picking up some caches. We decided to travel down this road and had very mixed success with finding caches - think I scored a record number of DNF's! No luck here for me today unfortunately...
Cache log full and container needs replacement, as the rats have made a hole in it. I'll try and fix it next time I'm passing as I come by often. TFTC.
4-week family trip through NZ - Find #33!When returning from our walk along the Kauri Track, we tried to find the cache at the parking lot. It took a while until my son found something which is best described as "trash with a log sheet in it" . It was the cache, but it's in very bad shape - container has two big holes, the logsheet is not only muddy, but also totally full.TFTC!
I was lucky to find this relatively quickly, and went off on a small hike after this. Thanks!
Container has been chewed on, log is waterproof .picture as proof attached. Made a stop here to see the kauris. Took us nearly as long to wait for muggles to leave us to "do our business" ??Thanks for placing and maintaining.Apologies for the late log. It appears that we are nearly as bad as armchair loggers??. We actually DO go out and find the caches but because we plan to write up longer and nicer logs at home we also can (read: often do) forget to do so. We could blame the teen and toddler, but travelling the world then moving into a new country unexpectedly (NZ) means we were always busy and now have 500logs to catch up on ?? they are all from drafts so the date of the log will be when we actually visited (not today) which will align with the physical paper log but not CO receiving this email.
Found with goldielover here today. Got to love these country roads. Beautiful bush along the way. Thanks for bringing us along here.TFTC
We are on our long-awaited journey around the world in 99 days. Second try after canceling in 2020.
Our third stop after Los Angeles and Hawaii is New Zealand.
This time was of course used to find some geocaches here.
Today we take the „Highway 309“ and while that time we were searching for some of the 309 Pony Express caches!
Thank to the Hints and the good coordinates the little box was found quickly!
After signing the logbook there is a new smile on our geocaching map!
At least we would like to take this opportunity to thank Darby&Joan for creating and maintaining this nice series of caches along our way today!
Greetings from Nuermberg/Germany

P.S. To save space in the logbooks, we not only enter in sequence, but also in empty spaces between.

Found a short piece of thin chord tied around the base of one of the trees, but no sign of the cache. Very busy today, so only had time for a quick look with no luck
While exploring the Coromandel for the week we decide to take the 309 accross to Coromandel town.
Quick find. TFTC.

Thanks for placing these along this road Darby and Joan. Sorry for all the copy and pastes

On a roadie with Kiscardi getting some caches. A bit confused with what is a tree. Thanks
Quick find for this one as two others left for the walk ,the logs were completely sodden almost unsinkable but did manage to carefully scratch our signature.
We left today set out to get the caches along this road. Some were a lot trickier than others. The area the whole way was really mucky, lots of mud and very few good areas to pull over.
Was out with emiliyah and watcache.
Thanks for the trail.

Wow what a drive! Stopped for a walk in the kauris which was an amazing walk and a quick find, the bottle has a couple of holes in it so it was wet.
Left Whitianga today and crossing over on the 309. This was our first cache in this series. Lovely walk to the Kauri trees first then found the cache 5 metres from where we had parked. Thanks for the smiley.
Few people around when we got here so did the walk first which was really nice and made the find on return. Got it back before others came back to their cars. Tftc
We are away for 10 days touring around and collecting caches as we go along
I biked out from Coromandle Town to do this series or at least some of them and I turned back when I got to the top of the hill. Most were straight forward and in good condition

Left our calling card at Kauri Grove Stop.
Day 6 - Wednesday 23 December - Coromandel - Whitianga - Coromandel -And back to Whitianga again. 309 Pony express is the aim today. But it was a hot dusty day and many caches below par so dissapointing. Left Zara in Whitianga and headed out around the loop in Toby.
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are off on another geocaching escape over Xmas, this time to the mighty Coromandel, then over to Opotiki and stop off at Rotorua to return home on 5 January. Had an fabulous time exploring many wonders of our country. Rounding up over 400 caches along the way, with a few LABS, 20 odd TMGTs, virtuals and lots of interesting earth caches to keep the mind busy. Watching the sun come up on New Years Day at Mt Maunganui was spectacular. Lots of walking and even more driving. But had an awesome time. Thanks to all COs who made this adventure so special.

Taybeedragon and I went on a tour of the Coromandel - one of the few places of New Zealand, especially of Te ika a Maui, that I have yet to explore throughly, and from there along the coast to Opotiki to see one of my many, many sisters. From 18 December to 5 January we found over 400 caches, including 12 adventure labs (60 caches), 20 or so TMGTs and a host of virtuals and earthcaches. And I hosted an event to see the sun come up on New Year's day - surprisingly popular given that it was at 5am. We climbed a lot of hills, saw some amazing beaches that were quite popular despite (or because of) the insane access to them, walk a lot of bush, entered and explored 8 gold mines and generally had an awesome time. However I am glad to be back, but now is the hard part, and I fear it will take just as long - logging!
I thought I drove past GZ for Standing Tall, so I stopped in the really nice pullout. To my surprise, I was in the perfect spot to grab this one. Has anyone mentioned that there is now a Port-a-Potty right there? TFTC.
Out and about for a few days for a bit of a road trip around the Coromandel area. Day Three of my road trip. I started my travels in Whitianga and ended my day in Coromandel Town. My main objective for today was to find as many of the 309 Pony Express caches as I could manage. Weather had changed from yesterday - it was hot and sunny then - a bit cooler today and I encountered a few showers along the way. Not enough to dampen my enthusiasm though. Apologies for the cut and paste logs. I'll note anything that stood out for me. TFTC, Biggles.
Easy find. Container right out in the open. Covered with leaves for a better hide. Thanks for the cache.
A new drive for me along the 309 road collecting caches along the way.
Most caches didn't take too long to find, a few took a little longer though.
Logs were signed and caches replaced as found.
Sorry for the cut and paste logs.
A few of the caches could do with a CO visit, but I didn't keep notes on individual caches, only the numbers of the ones I stopped for and found.

Quick stop to find this cache and a few used the restroom as well. I didn't need to. Thanks
GPS bounced around, gorby came to the rescue, finding the cache. Happy to turn this into a smileyp
With rebel98, gorby, boney bruce and FMZ on a caching adventure around the Coromandel
We did a merry dance around here, and I had this vague feeling we had searched around here previously? anyhow with us all spread out searching, it was gorby who called out he had found it.
Music to my ears, log signed and we were off to more adventures. Thanks for the hide Darby&Joan

Found it during Coromandel adventure trip with Aiden29. Perfect day for it. Enjoyed fairly quick finds along Road 309 all together with perfect weather , first day of Spring and Father`s Day. Some of the finds took bit longer to locate some of them were just right there. GPS coordinates usually bang on and traffic was light too. Thanks for placements and recent maintenance on some of them.
Tramyard already had plans to complete this power trail today, but he asked me if I wanted to join him while we were at an event last night. I jumped at the chance to go on a road trip to the Coromandel - my first time this far up the Peninsula. The weather was perfect, just a little cold and quite foggy along State Highway 2 early in the morning, but once the sun rose we quickly stripped down to our t-shirts (contrary to the last month of weather in Auckland!).
The road was relatively quiet and not too dusty. We didn't have too much trouble with the finds although some took a little longer than others. We had to wait out some muggles in the carpark before we could search for the cache. Thank you for this series.

This ended up being the hardest caching day of my trip so far. The weather wasn't good and some of the caches were hard to find. Still enjoyed it and thanks for the caches.
quick find in base of group of pungas. great little walk to see the big kauris after signing the log.
Found as a part of a previous group TanjackMüley, aka WanderingSparrow. Now I'm continuing on my own. TFTC
Easily found in a small-medium sized container with a small hole in the bottom that look like bite marks. Tftc
Today we make the Pony Express Route .. not an easy one. Thank you for this Route

On a big mission to get a pile of caches so I can land my 7000th cache on either Mnt Ruapehu or Mnt Ngauruhoe on the 16th March! Hoping, weather permitting, that rustynz can join me for her 5000th cache as well on the same day. A bit of planning going into this I can tell ya!
I DNF'd this just over 3 years ago, and today it came pretty close to another one! I checked 2 obvious geo trails and not finding the cache I was prepared to go and thought why not in between the 2 trails, sure enough that's where I found the cache!

Sorry for the late log entry, but the memory is still there .

Finding this cache was not too difficult - getting to it provide a bit of a problem. Watch where you put your feet!!!
Haven't been geocaching in a long time. I'm glad it worked out this time. Thanks much to the owner for the cache

Today Lupid and I crossed the Coromandel via road 309. As we walked into the Kauri Grove we could at least search this one cache of the 309-PT. Spotting was more easy than retrieving it

Team BOP have reunited for a two day journey up to the top of the Coromandel. We were pleased to be tackling these not long after a maintenance run as it's nice to know the caches are all in good order. They all seemed well placed with adequate parking and in spite of the repetitive nature of power trails - it was quite and enjoyable run.
This cache can be enabled also - it was found quickly and in good condition. No issues here, cheers Darby&Joan, TFTC.

On a road trip and having fun with Team BOP - Great trail and thanks for the regular maintenance - this cache has been disabled but we found it and it is all in order. Should be reactivated TFTC
Team BOP were heading to the Coromandel west coast and we had to knock off the 309 Road first.
Another quick find here, despite it being disabled. CO can re-enable this without any issues.

Called by today to check this one out. Sadly we couldn't remember where we put it and with no signal to get the co-ords, we weren't able to replace it today. Next trip. So have disabled in the meantime.
3075 It has been a long time since I have driven the 309 but these caches were a good incentive. Managed to find 32 with 8 DNF. Some were quickly found while others I spent some time looking. All part of the pleasure.
After doing the nearby walk I came back to find I was already parked at the next cache. Did a few circles of the cache before finally spotting it from behind. Thanks for the placement.

We waited for a long time for the muggles who mucked around putting on their shoes for the walk. They were just moving off when another car arrived. One tourist decided to stay with the car *heart sinks* and so we gave up.
During our vacation in New Zealand we also did some geocaching. We already found geocaches placed on the year 2000. Now we are heading to Coromendal and there we also did some caches. We found some and also didn't found some. But we had a lot of fun, and that is what geocaching ment to be. We loved the route 309. We had the speed of a pony, so after a long day we finally found the last one. We had no idea what to do with the letterboxes, so we didn't found them. Randsom we ad some FP's.
Darby&Joan hartelijk dank voor het leggen en onderhouden van deze cache.

The Kauri Protection Survey was taking place in the carpark - so I left Mr P to answer the 4 pages of questions and wandered over to find the cache. I was thinking that it might be too obvious with so many muggles about, but I guess they were all head down filing in their surveys. Quick find, sign and replace. T4tc
We went up the bank following the trails for this one, only to find there were taking us to completely the wrong place. Turned out we could reach the cache from the carpark. All logs today signed BR.
With MUEZ (aka "the driver") on Road 309 from Whitianga to Coromandel: We could find most of the caches along the road. However, even with the hint this one was hidden too well for me to be found and given the charming environment I kept the search time to a minimum.
