4th Day and last day in a row of an last minute effort this week on the HMAS series after I just learned on Monday that the will be gone by the end of the week.

This time We were not alone lots of people came and did some bit of the series. A great team effort!

Today Dino and I were going to take on the puzzles, whose coords I had diligently collected over the last days (only missed one coord in the lids - I guess on the first day when I was not attuned to them yet). We had sent out word of our plan but not heard back so we set out knowing that they might have been snatched allready. And indeed coming to 101 and it was gone. Skipped 100 as I had red it was hard to find. But 99 was also gone, I was hoping we could catch the culprits still, sort of in the act as we had not seen anyone on the way in from the dam, but there are other ways to get here and after finding 97 gone as well we decided it was time to head to the event and log them there.

We had a nice time and Dino found a TE cache on the way out. Another beautiful day for the hike here today!

I had the chance to do the caches 80 to 90 a few 50ies and a 20 with Fred yesterday. We went to collect the puzzles today but they were already gone. This was a nice series.
Would have liked to do the others as well but couldn’t because I had a sour leg.

As the series including these puzzles were being archived Joolay offered to come out with me to grab them this afternoon so I took her up on the offer and we met at 2.30pm and off we went. It was nice weather it didn't take long to knock them all off and take the containers to drop off at the CITO tomorrow. On our way back we bumped into The Tree Whisperer who came back out today to find #100 that he had trouble with yesterday, we had already had it in our bag so got it out for him to sign the log. We saw some Deer and Ostriches too which was a bonus., wished I had taken a photo now, oh well. Then we went off to get the final for the multi. Tftpc SmittenGranny

After having cleared the HMAS trads this morning, I now had all of the puzzle locations. Geo-SIL Anamastasia was in town for lunch so we decided to knock these over this afternoon.

Out and about with Happy Uke again for a big weekend of caching. In Canberra with our sights targeting the HMAS series before it vanishes over the horizon.

Sorry for the generic log but Finalf29 and I found seventy two for the weekend. We came down to Canberra to finish the HMAS series before it gets archived at the end of the month. We found the last HMAS puzzle as the sun set on Sunday afternoon. We were very tired after walking goodness how many kilometres, but had a fantastic weekend and enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks to all the CO's for your caches, but a HUGE thanks to Finalf29 for joining me in this crazy game... you are the best walking buddy a person can ask for!

Bumped into minniek, nibblecakes and darksidedan and found the rest of the HMAS puzzles with them.

And ... A day or 2 later - today was the first spare late afternoon/evening after work this week - I came here to start finding a couple ... and decided to see if I could find them all - which I did, even though it was starting to get quite dark by the time I found the first one ...

I found 98 (which took a little while to find) first, then 97 was quick, 96 was looking like a DNF until I read some logs and used Goldenwattles coords
Then nice quick finds for 95, 94, 93, 92 and 91 ... saw a wombat running into the grass ahead of me, and then about 3 Roos hop across the track, on my way down to that last one ... Then afterwards I stopped and watched the International Space Station flying overhead
I then continued to 99, then couldn't find 100 at either the coords I was given, or those I found in another cache, so I ducked down and grabbed 101, then came back and had a look in a couple more places and found 100 at the coords I had been given
Then I walked back to my car and found a newish cache near where I was parked, to make it an even dozen finds - lol

Thank you for maintaining this cache for so long. It is good that I got the chance to find it before it was archived. I look forward to the new series that will pop up I the vacant spot.

Found today on a walk with JM383, Kittykatch and Smittengranny. Lovely day for a walk and walking past the Zoo saw deer, heard lions roar and saw ostriches and the giraffe. Awesome.

Out with Kitty Katch, Joolay and JM383 on a beautiful autumn morning. Despite having adopted this series years ago, I had never actually found most of the puzzle caches. I joined in today so that I would know where they were come time to retrieve them after archiving them at the end of May. Most were in reasonable condition but one was placed in a plastic bag to keep the contents dry until then.

Finishing off the HMAS while I still can! with Aramil. Found all except the archived ones, and not a single DNF. This took us three days, spread out over a couple of months. So glad we got to do this amazing trail, thank you.

With an indeterminate time between my old and new jobs.. I've taken the oppurtunity to just treat every day like it's my last day of leave.. so with that, I've come down here to finish up the HMAS series.. for the second time

Started today's run by heading straight into the pine forest down south, and then across to the Zoo pines.

With only 2 DNFs, I was stoked to have to have over rest of the caches done here!

I was on an afternoon mission to pick up the Zippity Zoo and the HMAS bonus hides today. The heat of the sun has finally dissipated a little, its a killer in the middle of the day so I felt I was ready for a reasonable walk. I started the HMAS series months ago, they were the first 'power trail' caches I had ever done, and when I had less than 100 finds. Faster forward 5 months and I now almost have 1000. About time I finished these off I think.

This was the fifth hide found for the day. Scrivener Dam is in some sort of release mode as there is an enormous amount of water coming out of it, it makes the Molonglo quite swollen and the path really very pretty.

The trip was started with a park at the zoo, and thankfully the first WP for Zippity Zoo was found without too much fuss, I can easily imagine spending quite a bit of time here. Punched in the new coords and off I went, thankfully in the exact direction I had hoped for. That cache done it was time to turn my attention to the HMAS bonus series.

FINALLY! HMAS SERIES IS COMPLETED!

After finding cache #1 in the series over two years ago! (9th July 2015) I have finally found the final cache in the series! It has taken quite a number of trips, at least 5 I believe! A few missing caches have hindered my progress each visit.

Finally after having this one missing on my last visit 2 months ago it was replaced in a quick manner!
I parked in an interesting spot, and made my way to GZ.

Very familiar GZ, spent about 30 mins tearing this place up last time. A quick find today though!

Aquilus1, AddictedGamer and I took a stroll out this afternoon to pick up these mysteries and finish the HMAS Series.

Another quick find. Saw two bike riders pass by, but they weren't too interested in us. Tftc!!!

Out this afternoon with dty73 and had AddictedGamer with us as well. Now that we have finished the series and had all the coordinates of the Mysteries was time to come out and find them. Didn't get going until late this afternoon but still found the time to pick up a few extra caches along the way, luckily had a torch for the trip back to the car though! Nice walk along in the area, all caches and logs were in good condition and mostly all found easily enough. Watching the biker ideas zig and zag through to trees was interesting, going and then back again! Thanks for the cache.

On the way to 8000 finds... only about 300 to go!
I have a plan to find my 8000th cache on the 29th of July, in two weeks time. So I have a lot to find before then. So I planned a couple of weekend trips to Canberra of intense caching. Today the HMAS series was the target! I brought my bike with me as suggested... but when I started this morning at 8AM it was minus 4 degrees! Frost covering everything and ice on my car windows and bike. On top of that all the layers of warm clothing made it a bit difficult to move freely so I decided to go by foot.
By the end of the 8th hour I found the last cache, and had another hour walk back to the car. In the end I walked 30Km for 8 hours 50 min and found 99 caches in the area ( a few of the HMAS caches were offline and 1 DNF). Followed by a nice 3 hour drive home!
I'm still short of my goal so I'll probably come back down again next weekend.

We decided to combine a long hound walkie with clearing up this series. Beautiful day and there was plenty of birdlife about, including some yellow-tailed black cockatoos. A short hunt revealed the cache. Thanks Smittengranny

I placed new container for this cache. It is most probably not in the same place as before. Coordinates are still same.

Today I had some spare time and a bike, so took a short trip around the lake to finish the last 4 caches from the serie.

Thanks to Maris4 this cache is good to go.

Nope, no luck today. There didn't seem to be many decent hiding places in a 10m radius of GZ, so I gave them all a good once over. Sadly I couldn't find a cache in the time I had available.

We walked on from HMAS #97 and found HMAS #98, or I hope it is HMAS #98, as I didn't have any coordinates for this and there was no name for the cache. We have found the relevant caches for this back in March this year, but somehow we must have missed seeing the coordinates, as we didn't have them. Well, this saves having to go back and do them again...I hope. If this isn't HMAS #98, could I please be corrected. Log is dry. TFTC Smittengranny.

We completed the HMAS cache series over 2 days, so by the end of the second day we hoped we had all the coordinates right for these puzzles! With aching legs (after about 7 hours of caching already!) we hobbled our way around, and to our relief, managed to find all of them! We left something behind in each one, and had a lot of fun! Thanks Smittengranny - this was a really fun series.

A quick find.

Our current visit to Australia had been in the planning for over a year with the very significant help and advice from friends who live in Melbourne. The original plan was for a 2 month visit, but as things progressed we just couldn't help extending our trip to the full 90 days allowed on our visas - after all it's a big country and so much to see and do, especially with our favourite pastimes being birding, hiking and of course geocaching! Our journey started with our arrival in Perth before travelling on to Adelaide. We then continued on to Kangaroo Island, before heading to Melbourne via Goolwa, Strathalbyn, Coorong, Mount Gambier, Cape Bridgewater, the Grampians National Park, Port Campbell, Cape Otway and Lorne. The second leg of our journey was a fabulous 9 days in Tasmania. Having returned to Melbourne we then set off on the third leg of our journey, which is to Sydney via Wilson’s Promontory, Lakes Entrance, Mallacoota, Pambula Beach, Thredbo, Canberra (where we are at present) and Fitzroy Falls. We then travel on to the Gold Coast and the nearby mountainous birding hotspots before flying from Brisbane to Cairns for a week in the area. We then fly to Alice Springs for a week on the circuit to and from Kings Canyon and Ayers Rock before flying to Darwin from where we will spend the last two weeks of our holiday making our way to Broome before flying back to Perth, from where we connect with the flight all the way back home to Zimbabwe via South Africa. We already know we can't wait to return!

We had our sights on this series months before we arrived in Australia, but we only had one opportunity to undertake the trail, and so when the day finally arrived and we woke to pouring rain we were not going to be put off - and so following on from a large breakfast to avoid the need for lunch we arrived at the parking spot, donned our waterproofs, crossed the road and found the gate locked! - but we were definitely not going to be deterred at this stage, and so we climbed over the gate and started what turned out to be a MEGA hike. We managed to complete the entire trail, covering a total of just over 32.9 kilometres in 11.5 hours, although it felt like much more as the rain didn't let up even for one minute during the entire day, so making the track very muddy and slippery so that it often felt as though we were walking on ice, slipping and sliding frequently. The last few caches we searched for by torchlight - and then for the hardest part of the day - the LONG walk back to our hire car, as the last cache was nowhere near the start point! Along the way we saw many kangaroos, lots of cows and a good number of birds including two 'lifers' for us - the best bit of all was we didn't see a single other person in the entire hike - this place is definitely a cachers paradise and very muggle free - we had a great day! When we had crossed the nearby road ford early in the morning the river was just a small babbling brook, winding through the boulders way below the road level, but when we crossed back in the evening the river was just below the level of the road! Being dedicated geocachers we then went on to find 3 more caches on the way back to our hotel to make up for the 4 DNF's of the trail, as we wanted one of our days in Australia to include at least 100 finds. Thanks also to the CO for the massive amount of information provided throughout the trail.

Having spent the past few days in the alpine area I returned to Canberra to grab a few caches. This series was my target and under clear skies today I set off on the bike to bag a plethora caches.
Starting down near the RSPCA I was nerved to find pockets of smoke coming from various parts the series…. It appears hazard reduction season is well underway.

After 8hrs in the saddle I had found all the caches. Thanks for putting this series together. I actually learnt a bit about our naval history and explored a nice part of Canberra. Sorry for the duplicate logs.

A fortnight ago IamCoust and I made an assault on the HMAS series, collecting up to #72. Today was the day to finish them. We very nearly did, collecting up to and including #99. Unfortunately, with a deadline approaching we missed the last couple. Nevermind - they'll be there for next time and it was a terrific part-day of riding through the visit, with an intermission while we went to the CITO event at Weston Park.

4833. Too nice of a day to be heading straight home after the event, so Relish64 and myself headed out here for a nice wander in the pines. No dramas locating this one and we were off along the track to the next.

Visited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & Mile High Club A#290

Out for a huge day caching with The Storm Man, with the goal of breaking his best-day-of-caching record by getting 200 caches. Not the easiest thing to do in the ACT, but we were up for the challenge.

We got up at 5am and drove out to the HMAS trail. With only a few DNFs and most of the puzzle caches found we were able to complete this series on bike by 1pm, then it was off for a quick lunch break before hitting the new CTF trail by car all the way to Captains Flat. We bumped into many different caching groups heading the other way coming back from the day's event. Only 1 DNF on this series and even some time for a few local caches.

We left Captains Flat at 8:30pm knowing we were sitting roughly on 180 caches, we still needed about 20 more to get across the line, and the sun had well and truly gone.

As we drove back I looked through the maps to see what we could manage doing and decided on a night time walk through the Kowen Pine Forest. So at 9:00pm armed with our head torches and iPhones we began our walk through the Cache Constellation Trail. Very still and pleasant this time of night, with only 1 DNF we got back to the car at 11:15pm. Enough time to pick up a few single traditionals around Queanbeyan before midnight just to make sure we were well and truely over the 200 mark.

All in all a huge yet fantastic day.

Joelisa was coming up to visit and do some caching and left it up to me to figure out what we would do. Decided to try and crack 200 for caches in a day and after talking to some friends figured the HMAS series would be a good place to start. Armed with camelbacks, head torches, snacks and bikes, Joelisa and I started the trail at 6am (still dark). We finished the trail at 1pm with only 2 trad DNF's, 1 puzzle DNF and 3 other puzzles that we didn't find the coords too, probably because we forgot to look for them. Loved this trail. It wasn't too hard to ride and was really tight so made for some quick finds. Thanks for creating it CanKid and for maintaining it Smittengranny.

Didn't actually have the coords for this cache but Joelisa, being a bit cunning, had a guess at the rough location and the first spot we checked found the cache.

Once we had had a quick lunch break it was off to the newly created Captains Flat Trail. Bumped into some other cachers as we made our way through this trail. Very nice to meet you all. Only one DNF on this one, although some took longer to find than others. At the end of this trail we continued on into Captains Flat town where we found a few more before heading back into Queanbeyan.

We still needed more caches and needed them to be close to each other. Joelisa made the call to go for a night cache of the Kowen Constellation Trail. By this point I was getting weary and was sceptical about this idea but went along with him anyway. Turns out it was a lot quicker than I thought and the walk was so easy.

We had about 45mins left before midnight so we made a dash for a few more finds in Queanbeyan just to top the day off. Don't know what the final count is but after a quick review of the day we knew we cracked 200.

Thanks to everyone who created all these caches and for the cool places it took us. Thanks Joelisa for keeping me going when I was close to giving up.

I figured it is about time I finished off this series while I still have some long service leave left. I finally picked up the last of the puzzle coords last week, so today was the perfect day to head out on the pushbike and grab all the puzzle caches. No dramas with this one.

A lovely day for a bike ride to attempt to finish off this series. I parked at the top of the arboretum then started with the last couple of the trads - one I hadn't been able to find, and another I'd bypassed because it was disabled - before heading across to the puzzles. A quick find here, after spending quite a while trying to find #97 - one of three I didn't have the co-ordinates for. TFTC.

Out this afternoon to finish the HMAS power trail (find all the mystery caches). I parked at Yarralumla Wool Shed and walked in from there. A nice little walk in through the horse paddocks onto the trails and over the river crossing. A quick find. Thanks for the power trail Cankid.

Found 5:09 pm with LuckyL10n. We were out for a caching run on Sunday afternoon. Having done a few of the originals before and having the coords we decided to find the puzzles we had coords for and get the daily count up a bit. As usual not too hard to spot. Log signed and cache returned to hiding spot.

#3515 - 17:10; I had headed out on a solo mission this afternoon, but after collecting my first for the run, I got a call from MrDamage to say he was now free to join me. I collected him on the way past and we made our way to the environs of Black Mountain where we collected a couple more. That part of the mission complete, it was time to return to the National Arboretum to collect a few more in this series. Parked the geomobile quite safely beside a busy road form where we headed off on foot. We had made our first find for this mini mission, having collected the information for a few of the unknown caches on our earlier sorties in the area. Another quick find was had, after which we headed off for another unknown. TFTC Cankid

Today we meet at the meeting point to start our big day on this HMAS, so I didn't have this one so my self and Rapilywild rode the bikes down the hill omg I loved it, it took me back to being 16 again. and I only had 2 crash all day and landed on my feet both times , but it was a great day sun was out all day. there ways a few good lol, we did come up with a few DNFs but apart from that it was a great day. Glad there was Blue Paint around to help, there was trees down everywhere, the loggers have found some and put them in the right places but not sure how long the rest will last, as you will see in more pics, it was a bit said as I was out to get my 900 today and missed out due to the logging. Was a big day out on the HMAS trail today with Tanso. We had made arrangements to go tackle the remaining caches we had out here, and after a little communication confusion, it turned out we needed the opposite caches, whoops. So we basically ended up do 90% of the trail all over again today however with the wonderful weather, it was totally worth it.

Over all, I think I picked up 47 finds and 3 DNF's, replaced a number of log books and we replaced a number of dislodged caches back at their retrospective GZ locations. There were a couple areas we couldnt pick up caches in due to active logging and it seems a few of the trads in the lower end had been eaten by the logging machines [xx(] We also attempted to find a number of the disabled ones and were successful on most except we failed on 3 of the puzzles, very unfortunate.

Today was the second mountain bike session on the HMAS series. It was a glorious winters day, bitterly cold at the start at 0845 and warming up to 15 deg over the course of the morning and finishing at 1415. Parking over at the Governor Generals lookout, it was a quick commute down stream to the southern part of the power trail and then travelling in basically an anti-clockwise direction. The first half was really great, zooming up and down on the bike until cache #66 when chain on the bike just snapped and then the zooming was limited to down hill! Progress was a bit slower in the second half of the trip!
The friends count over the course of the day was dog walkers x 2 with dogs, horses x 5 all with humans and 2 with dogs as well, lots of birds and about half a dozen mobs of kangaroos of between 8 and 12 roos each, no snakes and no pigs. My apologies for the copied logs but at least they might encourage everyone to add to the story of your cache!
Determined the coordinates for HMAS #98 earlier in the day and then it was a matter of traversing to the final location on my way back out. Cache was found without any dramas.
Thankyou again Cankid and Delta Response Team. A very enjoyable couple of days worth of caching was to be had cruising around your colossal HMAS series, well done.

Having sailed the first half of this series last Monday, it was time to chart a course for the second half today. With favourable seas we made very good time early in the day. As the sun got higher our progress slowed somewhat but we were determined to reach the end. Our log is generic as all the caches and hides were very similar. We thank the CO’s for the high standard of maintenance and the time and trouble taken to establish the series.
With all the numbers collected on our ride today we were able to complete this cache.

So I actually haven't found the clue cache for this ???? cache yet, but I just noticed a pattern, had a bit of luck, hunted like a blood hound and happened to find cache. Yay!!!!
Was getting a little warn out by now with my blood hound hunting so a few blackberries was a nice boost to keep me going.

Finally back in Canberra to finish of the rest of the series. A light overcast at the beginning promised for a nice ride! Managed to do the left ones within 2 hours wich I thought was a good effort?

Found on a rainy morning. We have been to the HMAS twice before, but there were still some caches that we hadn't found. So today, we decided to get the traditional that we didn't attempt beforehand and we got the puzzle caches nearby. We parked at the RSPCA again and walked across towards the pine forest, for some very quick finds. The rain kept coming and going and there were occasional sounds of thunder, but overall, the weather was very relaxing. So walking through the forest was very pleasant. We added two TBs into HMAS #100, but for the rest of them, we TNLNSL. TFTC Cankid for a fantastic series to complete!

Found on an ACT (and beyond) caching raid with Hoojar over 48hrs. We did some bike riding, plenty of walking and driving, some pouring rain and a bit of heat in the sun.

A nice series- a little rain at the end but we made our way around on our bikes through the forest and through the open to find just about all in the series. An enjoyable caching run.

A plan was hatched to try and tick the HMAS series off with specimenX. Bikes loaded onto the geomobile and off we headed to HMAS series.

Quick find at this one another one bites the dust and off to the next one.

We came back today to complete the HMAS puzzles that we picked up last week end, the Geo hounds enjoyed getting out, the weathers great, there horse trail raids currently going on, it's good to have the dabble shade of the pines. Most of the caches were quickly located, we enjoyed outing. Thanks Cankid

Hadn't expected this one today, but was back in the area cleaning up a DNF and was soon headed in this direction as well. No problems with this one at GZ either, and the log was soon being signed.

6614 Found today after completing all the trads I went for acouple of puzzles. Even found one I didnt have the coordinates for TFTC

8763 + 1000 = 9763. Grabbed nearly all of the Puzzle Caches for this series today...

Having "found" the GZ's of many of the Puzzle caches of this series I thought today was a good time to grab them. I parked at the Zoo and walked in (again). This was the sixth find of the day. Signed, returned and I was off to the next one...

Last loop in a most enjoyable series spread over about three weekends. Feel that we know the arboretum surrounds much better now after completing this series. TFTC Cankid and for the entire series.

My 4th visit to this series! Managed to tick off a few more, but not all dang it! Thanks Cankid.

The weather is very nice for me to walked through fire trails from HMAS #52 to HMAS #99.
I couldn't find the code for #97 - will email to the owner.
I started at 9.30am and returned back to the car park after 6pm. Long hours...

We saw plenty of animals - Only one thing I am not happy is Thorns - ouch... watch out for children...
The track/path and scene - enjoyed myself wandering around.

Spent the day around behind the RSPCA in the pine forest and in the National Arboretum collecting the HMAS series of caches. Found 46 caches including two FTFs, and two puzzles. Had 4 DNFs. About seven hours riding, walking and searching. Some very easy to find and some very well hidden. TFTCs.
