Found at 12:42 PM GAFF1.We couldn't understand what this "other" road was all about until we actually got to GZ! A very thin road indeed and it looks like there are barriers along the way from graziers to stop you from using the road.!Thanks to grey team
WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 127 - Timber Creek to Katherine. The days drive was not excessive, but the temperature was. I managed to get out for four caches, and although they were all very sort walks, it was exhausting. The traffic on the road seems to have dropped off recently so that is good. I arrived in Katherine in time for lunch and set up. I then collapsed and slept for the afternoon, and night. Only a very light meal inside in the air conditioning. I hope things improve tomorrow.I walked over to this from the current highway. I had seen bits and pieces of old road for some time. Happily the area had been burnt at some time and the ground was pretty clear, so getting over was just slow and not an issue. The cache was not where I wanted it to be, but was found without any problems. Thanks for the cache grey team48974.3 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & 2013 Auckland NZ Mega A#261**Albida**
Found the cache in the last place we looked. Interestion location and history.Freddo and e.gregory1 were heading up the middle of Australia following Stuart's well trodden route. We were travelling in air conditoned comfort and style. No stale food. No camels to carry water. We were leaving the cold winter for the northern season.Today was the day to find this cache. Today is the tenth day of Augustus Caesar's Month in the wonderful year of twenty twenty four. We found your cache container and added some inky stuff to the paper sheet or note pad you have supplied for a log book or scroll. The cache container and log book or scroll were in good condition. It was so hot. No wind today. With the log signed and the cache replaced it was time to leave. Onwards to the next cache. Woot, that is not to far.I would like to show my respect and acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the Land, and their continuing connection to it. I wish to pay my respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past, present and emerging.I will apologize right now, because everything from here on is here solely for the purpose of padding the word count and winning that one hundred word diamond badge again. Somebody moved the goal posts. So many caches to find. So many caches to log. We find them, sign them and replace them. This particular geocache was found using one of the following GPS enabled devices, Garmin GPSr, Montana 680t, Oregon 650 or Dakota 20 and an Apple iPhone 11 using the marvelous Cachly app. Waypoints and paperless geocaching were downloaded via GSAK 9. Log prepared, checked and submitted using GSAK publish logs macro.Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun. Apologies for the generic part of the cache log. 1st cache of the day after leaving Katherine, for Kununurra. Quick find container all good after a recent burn off. Stamped log and replaced. Thanks to CO
Thanks so much! This is the first cache I have ever found and will change the way I travel forever
Katherine Day 2. Staying at Manbulloo a great farm stay
We only had a couple of caches to find, some had very rough roads to negotiate.
What a great way to tour the country following the geocaching trail.
Thanks to the CO for placing this cache
Travelling with richlink on a trip from Perth to Darwin and returning through the centre to SA and home again. Today, we are exploring Katherine and picking up some caches as we go. Thanks for the cache grey team.
Travelling with iluvtrekking and after spending twelve days in Darwin are now caching Katherine and surrounds. Quick find here - thanks for the hide.
It is an old road.
Nice strong container choice for the weather here.

On my way to Perth via Broome with a few detours for LGAs. TFTC.
I bought my caravan up this track. Maybe difficult to get out. Plus bees.

A quick find after a bumpy ride. Not fond of these long grass caches but it wasn't too hard as coords were good. Not easy for a big vehicle and trailer to turn here so did a very careful cross-country drive out. All good, thank goodness. TFTC
Have made it into the NT and on the road to Darwin grabbing caches along the way. TFTC
Making our way to Darwin from Perth and stopping in Katherine for the night! Grabbing some caches along the way. Thank you.
TFTC SL Haven't done much caching lately. Passed this one today while out for a drive. Cache in good condition.
Today our tour - which began in Perth, WA , and led us thru Western, Northern and Southern Australia back to Perth, was simply driving from Timber Creek (NT) to Litchfield NP.
On the way we came to some interesting locations. Here we searched, found and logged this Tradi-Cache.
Weather was good in the morning and it should even get better during the day.
Thanks to 'grey team' for showing us this location, for the fun we had with 'The Other Road West' and for the smiley. The search here and today didn't take too much time, fortunately.
Greetings from Germany and we hope to see you soon in the forest, prairie, desert or outback .

Tagging along with the "Rats" on holidays has it's advantages, not only do we get to see our cool country but we also get to do a heap of caching as Dad just can't help himself and has to stop at every cache he can.
Heading across Australia on nearly every dirt road possible we stopped and found your cache as part of our adventure and for that, I thank you! Sorry about the log being a "cut n paste" but tthats just because we stopped at so many caches.

The Rats and mini rats found this cache as part of our Purposeful Meander across Oz where we visited every mainland state in 8 weeks.
Apologises for the late log in some cases but we are only just catching up on our logging now that we have arrived back home. Your cache makes up many of the great memories we now have from the adventure. The faceplate style log doesn't detract from the experience we had finding the cache.
Thanks

Thanks a lot to the owner for my first cache on the Savannah Way. A quick stop and a quick find.

Quick stop to look for quails on the road to kununurra. Found a cache instead. TFTC
Heading to the east again having visited the west coast after the Red Centre Experience over Easter. We took the turn in to try to find this cache not really knowing if we could get back to the highway easily as the van plus car add to a decent length. No worries were needed and I soon had CIH, log signed and all returned to where I found it. TFTC TNLN SL
After having a very pleasant day's caching in Katherine it was time to head west and pick up some caches between here and Timber Creek.
We have crossed over this highway further east doing another cache, it's a shame that we didn't know that it kept going or we could have followed this one(perhaps)
The road certainly has changed over the years and it's hard to imagine driving along this old road with a road train coming towards you, fortunately there was none to get in our way today and we were also quite happy that there had been a recent burn as it meant we were able to locate the cache without the pesky grass seeds. With good co-ords the cache was found in the first place we looked and the log now contains our name.
Many thanks once more grey team.

Still travelling NT after the Red Centre Experience but now moving towards Birdsville in QLD for the Big Red Bash.
Staying a few days in Katherine to attempt 'lots' of the local caches we hope.
Nice weather for our country drive today. [^]

We are happy they built a new road. Otherwise it would have been a very very long journey from Kununurra to Katherine. Tftc Sprunghörnchen

Our current visit to Australia had been in the planning for over a year with the very significant help and advice from friends who live in Melbourne. The original plan was for a 2 month visit, but as things progressed we just couldn't help extending our trip to the full 90 days allowed on our visas - after all it's a big country and so much to see and do, especially with our favourite pastimes being birding, hiking and of course geocaching! Our journey started with our arrival at Perth airport followed by a day cycling around Rottnest Island before travelling on to Adelaide where we met up with our friends. We then continued on to spend some time on Kangaroo Island, before heading to Melbourne via Goolwa, Strathalbyn, Coorong, Mount Gambier, Cape Bridgewater, the Grampians National Park, Port Campbell, Cape Otway and Lorne, cramming in as much as possible on route. The second leg of our journey was a fabulous 9 days in Tasmania. Having then returned to Melbourne we set off on the third leg of our journey, which was to Sydney via Wilson’s Promontory, Lakes Entrance, Mallacoota, Pambula Beach, Thredbo, Canberra and Fitzroy Falls. We then spent a few days in Sydney with geocaching friends efore flying on to the Gold Coast for the fourth leg of our travels, that included visits to Lamington National Park, Noosa and an overnight trip out to Fraser Island. We then flew from Brisbane to Cairns, where we spent a couple of nights before heading out to the birding hotspots of Yungaburra and Daintree. Following on from a visit to Cape Tribulation we turned to Port Douglas. After a day out on the Great Barrier Reef we returned to Cairns for the flight to Alice Springs and the fifth leg of our travels, which was a wonderful week driving the circuit to and from Ayers Rock in our 4x4 camper. On returning to Alice Springs we then flew on to Darwin, where we picked up another 4x4 camper. We are currently making our way towards Broome via Kakadu, Cooinda, Katherine Gorge, Kununarra, Lake Argyle, Emma Gorge, the Bungle Bungle’s and Fitzroy Crossing. Our last two nights in Australia will be spent in Broome before we fly back to Perth, from where we will connect with the flight all the way back home to Zimbabwe via South Africa. We already know we can't wait to return!
This was a nice quick find at Ground Zero. Thanks so much for the cache.

TFTC. Thanks for the history lesson. We are glad of the new road, much better than the old.
Found the container out in the open after searching the logical location. Replaced among the rocks.

Thanks for bringing us here. How good is it that they have upgraded the highway? Imagine sharing this road with 53 metre road-trains?? Gee whiz, another car has turned up. What is the chance of getting muggled here?
We set up our bus at Manbulloo Caravan Park and went
to find some close caches. We saw another car in the distance
and wondered if they were caching also. Found the cache and
saw that someone else had found it today. Signed and put back
as found.
We drove on this very same road some 40 odd years ago and
were surprised that this section was in such good nick...
Thanks for the memories grey team

A quick stop along the highway here, as we were not sure we could get the van back out if we drove along the 'old road'. Thought it was easier to just traverse a bit of burnt out bush strip to the cache. Easy find here. TFTC and also awareness of the old and the new. TFTC
It must be our lucky day as we managed to grab 14 FTFs on our drive down to Katherine - this cache being the last - number 14
