Today I decided to come down to Brisbane to find some caches for my D/T grid. I reached out to my mate Cap Terror for some company. This was a nice walk to GZ until we hit the boggy ground. Cap was telling me he first did this cache in the wet and when the water was waist high. So glad that was not my experience. Yet he could not recall where the cache was so we spent a few minutes narrowing out search. I made the find for this one. Thanks for the cache.

Today I headed up to Deagon to do some lagoon fishing and take a walk through the wetlands. I finished off the day by driving along the shoreline of Shorncliffe and completing a number of AdLabs along there.I parked on Bracken Ridge Road and wandered south through the wetlands. I had intended to look for this cache at the start of my loop but I had just passed a dog walked and thought it would look a bit suspicious if I just took off into the bush. So I continued south and completed a loop of the area, finding a few other caches along the way. On my return, I found a track leading in the right direction and headed off towards this cache. I had read some logs prior to coming here and was not sure what to expect, but the wetlands were not living up to their name today with no water lying around at all. The ground underfoot was still soft, though, and I had to be careful walking on the unstable ground. There were also still lots of mozzies and spiders here today. At GZ my gps bounced me around between a few different trees and when I thought I had thoroughly checked them all, I looked up and saw the cache right in front of my eyes. Thanks for the great cache placement barbbowman!

One of my geocaching resolutions for this year was to make more of an effort to qualify for a number of incomplete challenge caches. As it happened one of the unfulfilled challenges on my list involved finding other challenge caches in the month of July. I carefully prepared a to-do list of target caches for which I had already qualified, with plans to head out today to pick them off.My journey took me past this cache, as I decided to put a few kilometres into the legs and walk a longer circular route, rather than jumping in and out of the car at various access points. I overcame my usual initial impulse to bush bash in a direct line to the cache and was soon rewarded when I spotted a well worn track leading in the right direction. It wasn't long before I noticed movement on the track up and suspected the path must lead to some local attraction that some locals were headed to. Indeed it was another family mulling around GZ trying to look innocent, but clearly (to the trained eye) looking for the cache. To put them at their ease I said gday and told them I was also looking the same thing. The family spotted it first taking it in turns to find it and, after signing logbook, offered me the opportunity to sign as well. TFTC

Well, that was the trickiest T4 I’ve done so far! The swamp was shin-deep in places. Thank goodness for my gumboots. Thankfully the cache was in plain sight, because really, who would voluntarily walk into here! (Except for us caching weirdo’s). TFTC, I think, barbbowman

11-Oct-21
Today, with my geocaching partner having a lunch appointment, I decided to take an afternoon for myself and kayak around Hays Inlet. I had the tide time right, but there were high winds about, and in the end, my plan for several river geocaches only resulted with one find, before making the sensible decision to cut my kayaking expedition short. I then took the bridge across to Clontarf and took a few walks around, before finalising my day visiting Deagon Wetlands and Sandgate Third Lagoon Reserve.

With some time left before I was expected home, I decided to visit these wetlands. I did think this 4.0 Terrain rating was rather high for this geocache, as I was expecting a tree climb here, however going by past photos to see visitors knee-high in water, I could understand that this geocache was certainly seasonal for wading!

I was a little confused by the parking waypoint coordinates, as it was a random area within the park? I did manage to find a pretty cool trail (geotrail), and for reference, this trail joins the main trail at S 27° 18.897' E 153° 03.118'. I found the small trail halfway along whilst bush bashing through, and I soon arrived at GZ.

The cache took a good 10+ minutes to find as I continued to circle around the area, trying to find anything suspicious. Others appeared to have found this reasonably quickly, and without any hint, nor any idea of its size, I just had to keep looking up and down and from different angles until something stood out. Eventually, I managed to make the find, and to the geocache's credit, the coordinates were pretty good - in fact I had search that particular tree a few times, but the cache had just been safely tucked away. The cache container and logbook were in good shape, and I was a little confused to why this cache's size was other, and not micro. Judging by this geocache's Favourite Points, I suspect this cache has been replaced in recent times, which is a shame. Thanks barbbowman for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

It was a perfect morning to be out Geocaching with friends on the north side of Brisbane. This was one of our target ones today, and we walked to GZ from our previous location, and with a bit of a search soon had it in our hands.
Such a lovely find!
Thanks barbowman. We are loving your hides on the north side in this beautiful part of Brisbane.

Lovely reunion with Domsky, Snickerallan and Tenkae. Signed the logs for the challenge cache in the area, found some other caches nearby and a suitable lunch at the Full Moon Restaurant for our lunacy.

Thanks for the cache and taking us here barbbowman. Quick find by Tenkae at gz. Official geocaching app won against handheld GPS again!

I had the opportunity to get out on the bikes with La Kedi again today. She graciously agreed to accompany me along the bikeway to Redcliffe even though she had previously found the majority of the caches along there. Great way to spend the morning. We took a different route home to grab the caches in this reserve. Such a pretty spot. Cache was found safe and dry. TFTC barbbowman

01-Oct-20
We navigated our way to the parking coordinates, and left the bikes there as we didn’t think they’d go much further. Walking along the little path, you could see how boggy this wetlands really gets and we were glad it hasn’t rained for a while, making it relatively easy to get close enough to GZ to find the cache. We loved the number of butterflies that accompanied us on the walk, though not the number of spiders and we were grateful that we didn’t come across any snakes. DisSister was the one who found this while I was still staring at my phone screen reading logs looking for hints. Really neat little camouflage.
TFTC, barbbowman. =^.^=

Bit of wandering around searching for this one

14-Sep-20
Today I volunteered to help clean the boat from the days before work function, though on second thoughts it probably wasn’t a good idea. Having been to this area yesterday I thought it would be nice to finish off the last couple in here. I needed to still complete my challenges of a trad a day and a cache a day.
First was this one and the sound of the moretein ad was ringing in my head as I took some suspicious looking path off the main track. The path soon turned into a little trail and then I reached GZ. A search around and then a smile on my face as the moretein ad was correct.
With cache in hand and log signed I replaced as found, thank you for this one. I then made my way onto the next in the area.

Now I understand why there is a P for parking. Bike didn't like going further. Tftc.

21-Jun-20
The daily caching trip, brought the bike to the North side to log some of the caches along the trails and bikeways, saving time and for here keeping clear of the mozzies.
Wondered about the P coordinated as I rode past heading North, on my way back I thought I might as well have a go at this, I am not going to be back for a while.

Today I decided to head out by myself to clean up a bit of green around the Sandgate/Shorncliffe area.

With today looking like a nice overcast day, it was the perfect day for caching. So off I went armed with my trusty umbrella and giant water bottle, I hit the paths and tracks in search of some caches.

It was a great afternoon out, not too hot, not too cold. Perfection I must say. All in all a great day to be outdoors.

Quick find and added some paper as the log is full.

Out for a bike ride with the geokids, thought we would tackle some caches between Bald Hills and Brighton. We found what looked to be the obvious path in to the cache, so we left our bikes at the track and walked in the extra 100m. Took a little while to find, and the mozzies weren't making it any easier. Found it after reading the last log entry - thanks for the hint! And thanks barbbowman for the cache! Smile

After a bit of a look found the cache, after noticing something a bit out of place and out of balance. Tftc!

16-Jun-19
Didn't really know what I was supposed to be looking for and my Garmin was sending me one way and my phone the other.

Saw a kangaroo and became very consious that this was good snake country so after half an hours fruitless searching, I called it a day.

The terrain value is spot on...

9/6/19 9:12 am Find #2533
Heading in from my previous DNF, I wandered along the across the road and around for this one, my furthest from where I parked of the caches in this area today, planning to work back and meet up with Fangsoki along the way. Well I wondered why there was a parking coordinate listed in the middle of the bush, but upon arrival, discovered it was the trailhead entrance and in I went. It was almost mystical in here today, and I soon arrived at GZ to begin my search.
It was possible cache blindness here today, as I looked here and there and that way too, when I got a message from Fangsoki telling me he had arrived at my car. Oh but I'm all the way at this cache now and having trouble finding it. And at that exact moment an owl flew out of the tree right by me as I was searching!! So Fangsoki said he'd drive around to the aerodrome and no sooner had he said that, than I found what I was after. I'm sure I searched that spot right at the start too, as the coords were pretty spot on and something made me think that would be where it was, guess I was just at the wrong angle at the time.
I did also manage to find an old possum box fallen on the ground beside a log here, but decided not to cart the now maggot infested home away from here today with me.
Logbook is full, apologies I snuck out ill-equipped today for replacement.
Thanks for the cache barbbowman.

I needed to find a cache with this terrain rating on a Monday for a challenge and caches with one of these attributes for another challenge so I decided to tackle this cache today. I always love barbbowman caches, so knew it would be worth the effort. I headed into GZ and searched for a little while and then spotted the cache. Very cool Big Grin. TFTC

14-Jul-18
Mr Jdadcache, the bub in a wrap and I (with crutches) after finding 1 in the area, decided to tackle this one at 5pm whilst the sun was setting. We arent the brightest of bulbs at times but we were enthusiastic.

So off we went, following the little deer path. Marvelling at the burnt trees and lime green foliage. The path soon turned into islands with trees and sinking mud pits surrounding. But we were not deterred. Futher in we started climbing over whole trees, logs and branches whilst falling into hidden holes. Then the mozzies attacked in force. At that same time we realised both our GPS' got lost and were leading us in different directions.

So we decided as the light was fading fast, the bub in a wrap was hungrily crying and being over run with mozzies to beat a hasty yet safe retreat. Thankfully we made it out of the bush after almost losing the path with all limbs intact and only some blood missing.

We will be back to conquer this again one day soon.

I really enjoyed to walk in to this one and I am possibly the first cacher to locate, sign and rehide this one without the sign of a single mosquito! Honestly, this is a beautiful place and I'm so glad that the council was able to save this with the environment levy. Interesting to see the human footprints along the track as well as deep wallaby footprints in the soft ground. The cache guardian is awesome too! Thanks barbbowman

I'm not sure why they call this a wetland because there isn't much land, but there is lots of wet. When you leave the path it all looks easy. There seems to be a nice trail in that ends about 20m from GZ and that is where the chaos begins. There is still lots of mud and it looks like half the dirt has been washed away. There are now a series of stepping stones for a game of hop-skotch on the way to the cache. The problem is that a lot of these steps have fake bottoms and fall away when you step on them.

I was lathered in insect repellant but I awoke the sleeping giant. 5 mozzies turned into 5,000 mozzies and they were fighting each other to get to me. Next time I spray, I must put repellant on the back of my hands. At one time there were 6 of them on my left hand which I kindly removed from existence with one foul swoop. I can't be 100% sure but I think that is a record for me.

Instead of spending a lot of time looking over everything I was looking on the move to try and stay ahead of the buzzy-flock. I wasn't going to give up easy after making the hard yards to get here but I was losing the battle. On my second loop I found the cache and grabbed it and kept moving. It is definitely hard to sign a log while jumping from hump to hump all the while trying not to end up face-first in the mud. Just to show the mozzies I was in control, I swapped to an anti-clockwise direction to return the cache. I headed back to the main path and a couple of those demons tried to follow me, but they lost the war. tftc

I was looking at my D/T chart and this cache filled a gap. It was also close by and I had an hour free! I the current conditions make this cache a bit easier than usual. There is little ground cover due to the recent arson, and the ground is really dry. Quickly spotted this one. A great cache guardian. TFTC.

02-Oct-16
After a previous terrifying encounter with a large red bellied black in a nearby wetlands we thought our days of caching in the long grass were well and truly over. Then we noticed that the caches in this area were unavailable due to an arson attack Sad.

We have kept an eager eye open waiting for them to be replaced because after a fire there is no water, no long grass and no creepy crawlies, so today was the perfect day to turn these few into smileys.

We parked at the entrance and watched the mini planes fly in their circles and then headed into the very stark bush. After a short walk we veered off down a side path and headed in, again very glad there was not water, mud or creepy crawlies around Smile.

After a short search Louie was spotted and the log was signed. TNLNSL TFTC Smile.
