Doing a check on some challenge caches and I knew I would qualify for this one but it meant getting in and finding some events. The system on project gc puts up a question mark if it thinks you may be close, so it now means you have to check each challenge yourself if the tick is not green. I will do my checks just the same.I remember doing this type of challenge when I first started caching and each month it was a task to see what and where we would go to collect caches for certain requirements. These days it is the tricky, harder and higher numbered caches that slow me down. Thanks for the challenge. If you are seeing this please check out, GCARTY0, see what is planned for October 2025. There is an importance in placing will attends to events. Thanks for supporting geocaching in Australia. I signed the log today and will follow up with a found log once I meet the requirements or confirm that I have already done so. Thanks for this challenge as this and other challenge caches always add to my to do list which adds another interesting aspect of geocaching. Were also carrying out maintenance along the way on behalf of the CO replacing many damaged containers and logs which the CO was happy to supply and for which we are very grateful.

It was beautiful sunny weather and I really enjoyed the trip with views, caches and a few walks. I was also very amused by the Kea parrots, which take care of the entertainment of tourists in Arthurs Pass at the caf. I found a total of 40 caches and in the evening I arrived in Christchurch, from where I am leaving tomorrow for the North Island. Thanks to everyone for the caches and greetings from the Czech Republic.

We are visiting from Washington state in the US near geocaching HQ. We initially landed in Wellington on January 15. We found GC46 there, then took the ferry to Picton. We event a nice day at Lochmara Lodge. The next day we headed to Nelson via Havelock where we stopped and had green shelled mussels for lunch. We had a grand time in Nelson where we hosted an event. Then out to Patons Rock on Golden Bay. One day we took a hike to Wainui Falls. Glorious. I highly recommend the hike. Not to tough. We drove from Patons Rock via Greymouth to Christchurch. It rained hard from Greymouth to Arthurs Pass.Yesterday, we hosted an event here in Christchurch. This morning I got up early and came out to this piece of highway to find these challenge caches. I found 11 out of 12. Pretty good. Now to check if I qualify. Thanks for the challenges.

9/9/2023 Find #6447

Fangsoki and I arrived overnight from Brisbane for a 3 week journey around New Zealand’s South Island. This is my first time in the country, and we have been picking and choosing the caches for the list for months. Actually, truth be told, we started planning this a couple of years ago, however covid put a squash on the plans back then, causing us to also miss out on the Auckland mega.
Thankfully nothing stopped us this time, and today marks the start of our adventures.
Fangsoki has a penchant for challenge caches, so these were first on the list after grabbing the webcam.
Luckily for me, Fangsoki has similar challenges to these back in Brisbane, which I have completed, so the qualifying caches were easy to sort.
Below is my qualifying list:

J Jacaranda GCVBRV 11/7/2017 Multi by Crew153
U Ugo in Slacks Creek GC67M6A 3/7/2017 Wherigo by RoddyC
L Les Atkinson Park Cache GC5NX1J 11/7/2017 Traditional by gotadollarmate
Y You've Got Double Trouble GC6MNPM 3/7/2017 Puzzle by EatSleepCacheRepeat_

Although the cache was holding water, the logbook still seemed dry.
Thanks for the challenge cache gracie7 + Mum.

As a team we came down in Feb to explore Christchurch. On 3/2/23 we were chasing over 200 caches in a day and these spelling ones were part of that. I signed them all as part of our team name TINT but there were a few months I had not qualified for at the time, including this one.

It is fun setting about to qualify asap at the turn of each month, so I am chuffed to finally present July as complete. What fun challenge caches these are, thank you.

Day 2 of a long weekend in Christchurch, and after doing the hard yards to qualify for all these monthly caches, finally I made the trip to pick them up.

Cloudy day, but good caching conditions: not too much traffic, and relatively good parking not too far from each GZ.

This was the seventh of the eleven I picked up today. It's 12.10pm. I qualified for this cache in 2021, and 2 years later I am finally here.

Tftc gracie7+Mum, and the series.

When TwigNZ announced he was going to find 200 in a day I decided to help by being his driver. That turned out to be good as of the three series he targeted to find I had already found two of them. Soon Itchyfeet2020 decided to join us and then it was a massive of case of solving puzzles. Many thanks to IF2020 for all the route planning. Logs signed with our group name of TINT.

The caches I log are going towards the 50 in a day segment for the DGSc challenge in the West Coast. Kia ora rawa atu for the cache gracie7 + Mum.

I've flown down to the Garden City with Itchyfeet2020 and NZ_B for the weekend, and what a weekend it has been! Cumulatively we had targeted so many personal challenges, individual caches we wanted to get, 'things' we wanted to do etc, that teaming up with these two caching troopers has been one of the best things I've done in ages. We've achieved so much in our short time here that my mind (and body) is still reeling. I'm sure the enormity will still be sinking in for many days to come.

All our signing of logbooks this weekend has been as T.I.N.T (for Team Itchyfeet2020, NZ_B, and TwigNZ) regardless of how many of the 3 of us are claiming any particular cache (as some of us may have found it previously).

Today was our big day, the main point of the whole trip down - trying to get 200+ caches in 1 day.
This turned out to be a huge success for us, achieved by targeting 3 geoart series (Eclipse, Metal Mania, and Smurfs) to give us as little driving as possible, and any other caches we would be literally driving right past at the time.

We started with the Eclipse series as that was closest to our accommodation in Darfield, then dropped down to the Metal Mania caches, finally moving back westwards so that we would be close to home when exhausted by the end of our day. The driving was shared, but was mostly provided by NZ_B, with an excellent job of route planning courtesy of Itchyfeet2020. A truly joint effort for which I'm very grateful.

Our main numbers for the day are;
Time we started: 05:30 (in the dark)
Time we finished: 21:30 (in the dark)
Hours caching: 16
Total caches found today: 236
Total caches DNFd today: 8

I apologise for the generic 'cut n paste' nature of my logs. If anything individually stands out in my memory about our experience at GZ then I will try to mention it. Certainly the puzzles themselves were a mix of easy and truly frustrating, but between us we got them all solved in the end.

Thank you for setting up this challenge series, and helping us achieve our goal Smile

The idea of doing 200+ caches in one day had been one that I had considered for a long time, but not something I had made any moves on doing anything about until the idea was raised by others in a geocaching group I am a part of. As we were all based in Wellington, the logical place to try this was Christchurch with it's lovely flat lands, long straight roads, and wonderful art work series. Unfortunately the weekend that worked for most of the group was not one that worked out for me, so instead I came down here a few weeks earlier than they planned to and did the the trip by myself.

I started finding Geocaches at exactly midnight on Sunday. I kept finding Geocaches for the next nineteen and a half hours, when at about 7:30pm I decided that the tiredness was getting to a point where this was no longer a sensible idea. I found:

31 Traditional
180 Unknown
1 Multi

For a total of 212 Geocaches in 19.5 hours. That's a rate of 10.9 per hour. I am pretty happy with that. I focused on the Smurf series, the Metal Mania series (a set of puzzles that I very much enjoyed), and the Glossary of Geocaching series, with a few other sets and individuals in between. It was a fantastic day, very much helped by the wonderful weather and the use of a car that had no problem on gravel roads ('cos it was a rental).

A huge thanks to all the CO's that place and maintain these Geocaches. Despite the rushed day I created for myself, I did enjoy each and every cache I found. It is only with CO's like this placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.

I started Geocaching in May this year and soon after discovered this awesome series of challenges!

I have really enjoyed the extra excitement of focusing on finding caches of different sorts and starting with each letter of the month.

Came out today with my caching bud Snugpup and our new GCing friend Angelic Kiwi, who told me about the challenge checker on Project GC which saved me a lot of time in typing up all these logs (I had previously recorded my challenge finds by hand in my puzzle notebook)
Today I qualify for June-November and already have some towards December.

I look forward to coming back next year to sign the others when I have completed January to May.

TFTC- all good at each stop along the road.
A very enjoyable series for sure

Team G0LD: Geocachers 0B80B8, Lis's crew and DaffyNZ are down from Whangarei for a few days. We've all solved the 4 big geoarts so they are the main target for the trip as well as many other solved puzzles. This was our big day where we planned to get as many as possible. Sadly we fell just short of our diamond badge as we lost track of our exact find numbers. I still haven't worked the statistics for my finds this trip. I really enjoyed my day and want to thank all the CO's who contributed by placing caches out this way. This one I was disappointed in my J. It was supposed to be a UV multi cache and I was so excited to try my new uv light out. My GPS took me to the general area then I just went where I'd have placed it and found it. I didn't get a clear gz where presumably the uv writing was. Oh well, I got the find which I had planned to use for this challenge. See Jan 2021 note for qualifying finds. Thanks again for the fun series Smile

Team G0LD ( 0B80B8, Lis's crew & DaffyNZ ) on a caching mission to Christchurch. We had travelled down from Whangarei on Wednesday avo. Solved puzzles were going to be the main focus of our trip. We had spent a lot of 2020 and 2021 solving over 400 puzzles, so we had a lot on our list.

Today looked like being the best weather for our trip, despite a heavy thunderstorm overnight. We had a Big Day Out planned, with a perhaps optimistic target of finding 300 caches in one day. Working together well as a team, with a driver, a navigator and a jumper, we made good progress, but in the end, the bigger distances between caches, that we hadn't anticipated, meant we ended the day a bit short.

A fun day though certainly, and sincere thanks to the GeoArt & Trail CO's, and others, for placing and then maintaining such large numbers of caches so well. A testament to your dedication to Geocaching was the very low number of DNF's during the day. Apologies for the mostly generic logs, but be assured your efforts were truly appreciated.

Qualifying caches are in my Aug '21 note. Lis made the find here, quickly as per the hint.

Northland's Team Gold (0B80B8, Liz Crew, DaffyNZ) are in Christchurch for a few days collecting all our solved puzzles and other cache types as we drive past. This is our "Big Day Out" to collect as many caches as we can in a day. Sorry for the generic logs. Thanks for placing the cache. We are loving every cache we locate that adds to our tally for the day.

Loaded up the cache mobile and headed up the road and let's see what fun adventures awaite us.
Today we continue our adventures and head towards our targets for the day .
Now we need fresh breath so we need eclipse and I think more than one .
But first I need to get in a bit of spelling practice
But I'm not a good at spelling well I'm actually rubbish at it so it took a bit of time to work a list to get this one signed off
A nice but cool day let's go .

Because today is Westland Anniversary day we headed home via ChCh to do some lab adventures first and then some maintenance on the way out of town. Team BOP on another crazy mission to the South Island. Lockdown gave us a lot of free time that we directed into Canterbury's many Geo-Arts and with the Auckland 2020 Mega postponement, Christchurch was an easy decision. Team BOPs current incarnation is DavidsonClan, NZFlossy, McJandals and myself and we’ve signed all the logs as Team BOP to save time and log space.

So it's Labour Weekend 2020, it’s a numbers mission and these Spelling Challenges would be our final few stops before we head back into Christchurch. I'm logging retrospectively because at the time we had yet to check on which caches we'd qualified for - happily though Project GC confirms I qualify so I can now tick it off.

Finally, thank you so much Gracie7+Mum. We had a great time today, Cheers, TFTP + TFTC

With ABCDF4, eyespyben, and Gap (of Fap and Gap). Logging all finds as Team HRP (Huntly, Rotorua, Papamoa - Our hometowns)... During Covid-19 lockdown, we solved a truck load of puzzles around Christchurch - Canterbury region. No use thrashing the old grey matter for no cause - We decided we should make good on this handiwork...

There are lots of interesting trails and geoart surrounding Christchurch. What you aren’t told is how far flung some of these caches actually are. Some before-hand advice would have been great, so here are some of my notes... You’re welcome!

1. Mobile coverage is patchy, especially in those quiet, rural areas where it was most needed. Saving caches to offline might show that you are prepared and organised...
2. There are many dusty metal roads on the trails. The car will get messy, and your hair will feel like cardboard at the end of the day...
3. Suitable clothing and footwear are essential. You will climb in and out of hedges, gorse, and other rough stuff. You might get scratched, cut to shreds, and bleed a lot. It’s not advised to wear your brand new jacket on the day...
4. Take lots of food and drink. You’ll probably be head down, tail up and not realise you haven’t eaten until late afternoon. There are very few shops or gas stations out there...
5. Make sure that you secure keys and wallet and know where these are placed for easy retrieval. A full box of pens might be useful too, especially if you’re inclined to free some into the wild...
6. Know the difference between left and right, and north, south, east, and west. Turning right and heading north will not get you to South Christchurch quickly.
7. Look with girl’s eyes rather than boys eyes... Some caches haven’t been found in a while and you might have to get down on your knees to pray.
8. Always be prepared for misleading hints. This is what turns simple caches into D5/T5 hides... “Head height” could mean the cache is positioned at your toes.
9. Have a sense of humour and like the people you go caching with. It’s going to be a very long day, and you might want to hurt someone during the journey...
10. Make sure you can operate your phone/device and it doesn’t crash when you most need it...
11. Learn to cut and paste logs because you’re going to repeat this function so often when logging all of your finds.
12. Above all else, have fun and be kind...

Down in Christchurch with the Squirrel, ABCDF4 and eyespyben. During Covid lockdown, we solved a load of puzzles and decided that this would be a good time to visit. Finally qualify yahoo! After a new mystery was published in the area and quickly collected, it was enough to turn the angry looking cross into a big green tick. We found this series last Labour weekend while up in the area. Signed as Southern raiders. TFTC

Finding the boxes was not the big problem, checking if I fullfill the challenge was a little bit more work. First I thought it will be really hard, because there is no challenge checker, but project-gc could solve the problem... And I am able to log all of them Wink
I was afraid that january would be impossible. In Germany that means wintertime and Y is maybe our less used letter, but I got it. TFTC
I don't know why, but project-gc says something is missing. I don't get it, all letters are there. Stupid software Big Grin

With no Mega in sight for the weekend, a bunch of Otago and Southland cachers invaded Christchurch this weekend. Today I cached with Hevic, Gadget169, K.J.R, and natalie247 to blitz our way through a bunch of caches in and around western Christchurch. Apologies for the C&P logs but I'll never catch up otherwise!

Found with the crew and qualified with the following list:

2016-07-31 Just add water. (Otago) (GC4FTWA) - Traditional Cache by Hall-way
2016-07-26 Up and running, the TB's are racing (GC6MT1K) - Event Cache by debsnz
2016-07-02 Leith Valley School (Otago) (GC617KP) - Multi-cache by katie w
2016-07-02 Y not CITO Forfar St Reserve? (Dunedin, Otago) (GC6JFAZ) - Cache In Trash Out Event by daywalk

I like the idea of this challenge series. Cheers!
