We are out for a ride on our e-bikes. Unfortunately, Beeba left her bike keys at home by accident and couldn't get her battery in. So she had to bike the old-fashioned way which is not such good fun. M eventually found the cache right where we all thought it would be and where we had all already looked. It was further up than we expected but it is there safe and sound.

10-Sep-23
Third person lucky. We all touched that spot but not far enough

Guessed where it would be but Gps was 12m out.

It was nice to finally find one that was actually "up there". Not sure, but most of these gates look like they are opened regularly so maybe the containers get jolted out. Thanks for the placement Survey Base

We decided to park near this cache with plans to do the trail in one direction before returning to eat our sandwiches and go then in the other direction. No problem with the find here as we had a suspicion of what it might be - and were correct.
Thanks. This gets a favourite point for the trail.

Down in Christchurch with the Squirrel, ABCDF4 and eyespyben. During Covid lockdown, we solved a load of puzzles and decided that this would be a good time to visit. We've enjoyed a few days of good weather and seeing the Canterbury countryside. The caches have been in varying states - some good, some not so much. Our time here has been a blast, and we'd like to thank all COs who have made this adventure possible. Thank you and TFTC.

With ABCDF4, eyespyben, and Gap (of Fap and Gap). Logging all finds as Team HRP (Huntly, Rotorua, Papamoa - Our hometowns)... During Covid-19 lockdown, we solved a truck load of puzzles around Christchurch - Canterbury region. No use thrashing the old grey matter for no cause - We decided we should make good on this handiwork...

There are lots of interesting trails and geoart surrounding Christchurch. What you aren’t told is how far flung some of these caches actually are. Some beforehand advice would have been great, so here are some of my notes... You’re welcome!

1. Mobile coverage is patchy, especially in those quiet, rural areas where it was most needed. Saving caches to offline might show that you are prepared and organised...
2. There are many dusty metal roads on the trails. The car will get messy, and your hair will feel like cardboard at the end of the day...
3. Suitable clothing and footwear are essential. You will climb in and out of hedges, gorse, and other rough stuff. You might get scratched, cut to shreds, and bleed a lot. It’s not advised to wear your brand new jacket on the day...
4. Take lots of food and drink. You’ll probably be head down, tail up and not realise you haven’t eaten until late afternoon. There are very few shops or gas stations out there...
5. Make sure that you secure keys and wallet and know where these are placed for easy retrieval. A full box of pens might be useful too, especially if you’re inclined to free some into the wild...
6. Know the difference between left and right, and north, south, east, and west. Turning right and heading north will not get you to South Christchurch quickly.
7. Look with girl’s eyes rather than boys eyes... Some caches haven’t been found in a while and you might have to get down on your knees to pray.
8. Always be prepared for misleading hints. This is what turns simple caches into D5/T5 hides... “Head height” could mean the cache is positioned at your toes.
9. Have a sense of humour and like the people you go caching with. It’s going to be a very long day, and you might want to hurt someone during the journey...
10. Make sure you can operate your phone/device and it doesn’t crash when you most need it...
11. Learn to cut and paste logs because you’re going to repeat this function so often when logging all of your finds.
12. Above all else, have fun and be kind...

Another big day to the north of Christchurch. This mission should clear out the last of the trails on our lists... We wanted to clear out some of the Ashley River trails - This was going to be challenging because the trail had to be done mostly on foot, and it was a warm day already. Found... Thanks Survey Base and TFTC.

After puzzle solving in the Canterbury region along with EyeSpyBen we were invited to join Fap (from Fap & Gap) and Squirrel Nutcase to a week long caching adventure in the Canterbury area. With flights and accommodation booked were off, all met up in ChCh. and many hard dusty Kms travelled and many caches found, I think the Squirrel has said it all in his brief. Many thanks for the placements and Cos for bringin us to the very pleasant areas we travelled in to your region

Little point in filing the dnf now it has been fixed.
At least I can drive to this one the next time I visit Rangiora.

Rather a busy road, quick find TFTC. Log book is saturated

Found this cache eventually but it is not in good shape. Cache was damaged, water had gotten in and it was floating in a pool of water. The hint item has probably been knocked over by a vehicle, accidentally or not. See photo.
I dried out the log as best I could, but it was still just writable. Have re-hid the cache at another hint item close by. Coords S43 16.764 E172 38.847. Needs maintenance. TFTC Survey Base.

The plan today was to head home to Blenheim from my base at Mandeville. On the way, a few caches in Rangiora before heading for a few along the Ashley River. Seemed like a good fit. Used the access roads to the stop bank to park up and do there-and-back trips, a few caches at a time, to knock them off. Didn’t target the lot though - ran out of time.
Unfortunately I did not have a bike, so it was Shanks’ pony for me today. A couple of hours invested here and just 2 DNFs, then quickly on to the nearby SH1 and home. Thanks to all COs.

found with help of previous logs. Left traceable. Tgytht

The hunt was on here. The Seagnoid found the fence line and was following it to find posts in the long grass. He finally finds the post with a decidedly plastic sound when moved. Yes this is it. Cheers
Its Waitangi day and its the Ashley River Mountain Bike Trail today. We park Toby at the mouth to the Ashley and Zara to our start point. Now its on our trusty steeds Jack and Jill to travel this bike trail.

Its Waitangi Day - day one of a five day weekend exploring the amazing Canterbury, with The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby, Jack and Jill. Two days Rangiora, a day in Lyttleton and 2 days in Banks Peninsula. I got call from The Seagnoid, hes taking a long weekend. Lets go to the West Coast! Lets Go!! but maybe not the West Coast - rain on the way. So lets go to Canterbury. We leave for Christchurch Tuesday evening after picking up The Seagnoid after work. We make camp for the night at Amberly. Today its off to Rangiora for a cycle trip.

06-Feb-19
This was a tricky one. Took Taybeedragon and me quite a while. I found the old fence line and was stomping randomly trying to find more posts for it, so I eventually found the hide when I stood on it. The cache looks like it has been stood on too, but it is still okay.

Down to Christchurch with Taybeedragon, Zara and Toby for a five day weekend starting Waitangi Day (which this year fell on a Wednesday. I reckon half the country would have been taking 5 day weekends!). Three days in Rangiora. We did two cycle trails there - having two vehicles makes it so easy. One of those cycle trails was fifty caches. Fifty caches in one day on a bicycle! Then a couple of days exploring the back roads around Akaroa. Darn close to two hundred caches in all. Dropped off a lot of path tags along the way, especially if the cache was nice and dry.

Damn, I wish that I had looked at the previous logs.

27-Oct-18
I was out riding the stopbank on the southern side of the Ashley River today.

This post, which is lying down, was hidden in the long grass and difficult to find. I found the cache by standing on it.

Cheers for the cache.

#3,228: Ashley Smiley!
I came to this one with tandem4 and GeoYoungling #3 on a great autumn morning. Found in good shape!! This was the last one we could do, as GY#3 was getting tired of the ride. So, we turned around here, leaving the rest of the series for another day.

Parked on the Main North Road this afternoon to ride this trail with the hope of locating at least a dozen caches. As it turned out, my total was 16 (consecutive and no DNFs). Took considerably longer than I needed to with this one. Somehow I missed seeing the hint object. Tried numerous others before finally spotting the right one. #1596. TFTC.

18-Feb-17
Today Injeanious and I started early and left home at 7am aiming to complete our biggest geocaching day ever. We started in Templeton before heading to Thompson Track and Rangiora. Altogether we found 126 caches in 14 hours. We had maybe 3 DNFs all day so felt very successful, although very tired.
Thanks to all the cache owners for helping us with our great day!
Sorry for the cut and paste logs but there were too many caches to log individually.
We signed our logs as JeJe to save time and space.

18-Feb-17
Jess.daphne and I decided to beat our personal best caching day of 51 finds and try to get 120. We did better than that coming home with 127 finds! We started our mission at 7 am heading to Thompson's Track, then we went up to Rangiora before getting home just before 9 pm. An epic day. Thanks to all the COs for placing and maintaining the caches. We signed our logs as JeJe (and JeJeBu when The Burnsey joined us). Sorry for the cut and paste logs.

It wasn't quite where we expected, so took surprisingly longer to find. Tftc!

Sneaky in the long grass.

09-Feb-17
We are visiting family in Christchurch for a few weeks from Canada and are doing some caching. Decided on this nice sunny but cooler day to give this trail a try. We drove along what we could and walked the remainder which made for a pleasant afternoon. Found most quickly and in good condition. Will cut and paste this log but add a note when nessesary. Thanks to those who placed this trail.

01-Jan-17
Continuing on from where I left off this trail last year, I thought today would be a good day to tick some of these off. Quite windy today, but all found that I attempted. Unfortunately it looks like the one under stateaway 1 has gone walkabout, so I'll leave the last 5 for next time I'm down Smile

TFTC Survey Base, the cache was found in good order Very Happy Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 9 finds of 32 today, making this find #1412

30-Apr-16
With a few more days of holidays left we decided to head south again and find some caches we didn't have time to look for last week, plus some more off the beaten track. This was one of 51 found today as we headed homewards again.
Thank you to all CO's who made this possible.

30-Apr-16
Our recent multi day Canterbury cache raid was so successful we decided to have another one before the holidays finished. Again we got stabbed, prodded, pricked and scraped by the variety of hedges the region is so famous for. And of course we can now hold our breath a lot longer. A skill well worth developing to avoid breathing in part of the road surface every time a vehicle passes. Just over 200 finds were logged this time and a great time was had finding the caches with a variety of shapes, sizes and placements. A big thank you to all COs who made this possible.

26-Apr-16
I'm in the Christchurch area mainly for work for a few days this week. Today I had some spare time to go out and about finding a few caches. I don't usually write cut / paste logs, but do make the odd exception for cache trails. I'd done some of this trail a while ago. Back in the area today to do some more. This was the first one I came to. After stopping here I carried on a bit and then started up on the trail proper. Thanks for setting it all up. TFTC, Biggles.

23-Apr-16
We set out after morning coffee to tackle this trail and got as far as #21 before deciding to turn back, leaving the rest for an approach from SH1. I always enjoy doing a cache trail by bike, and this was no exception. Thanks for the variety of hides and containers.
Another good location to leave yet another TB I have had for too long. TFTC.

#12263. This was another trail bail-out option, but once again we decided to carry on. TFTC.

19-Mar-16
A great day for a bike ride, and that is exactly what I did. I have been very keen to bike this trail for a while and finally got the opportunity to do so, on a most brilliant and somewhat hot day. I really enjoyed all the finds and exploring the area along the river today.

Many thanks for the great series.

Parked up high, then dropped down the bank. KR found a bit of wire, just about went head over toes which would have been nasty. Cheers

A nice drive along the stop bank. No tarffic at this time of night, and the rain continues to hold off. A quick find, cheers. Watch out for the fence attached to the pole, could be nasty.

Kiwi Moose was able to arrange a day pass, so we took the opportunity to go travel to North of the Waimak to do some treasure hunting. Had a great day, signed most logs KM+KR or vice versa. 8am to 10pm, a long day.

Thanks to all the CO's for their hides.
