25 Nov 2024 2:54pm. The weather was Broken Clouds 21C 64% 6 m/s . Find #9,089 for me. Found with PamJ during our stay in Millicent. We Victorians were barred from attending the Mega during the Covid period, so this is a catchup visit to Millicent and the surrounding area. Great location. I was last here in 1970. Its changed a lot. Much more grass and vegetation now. Thanks mogni for your contribution to the game. *Found with [Geooh GO](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiltal.geoohGO)*
Staying in Mt Gambier, we did a trip to Port MacDonnell today. We stopped at Mount Schank on the have back. The walk up and around the crater was not too strenuous and the views are pretty nice from the top. I have sent my answers to the CO and hope they are OK.
Answers sent to CO. Thank you so much for placing this one to recognise this beautiful area. We saw 2 beautiful Bengal cats being picked up and carried by their owners, one crying when it got stuck in the grass, so adorable! My first ever walk in SA, we walked around the crater too and I got a lot of my audiobook finished. Tftc!
I was surprised at how big the crater was once I was up there. Fantastic views from the top, lots of lizards and a wedge tailed eagle flying overhead.
Pondered the answers and sent to the CO.

It was late afternoon on our last day in Mount Gambier when we came to this beautiful past volcano.
The walk to the top was very well graded on the new path and then we did a loop around. Spectacular and awesome in just so many ways.
I am so glad that we made the detour and took the time to head here.
Mount Gambier and the surrounds have to be one of the best kept secrets in the world.
We love to visit here.
A favourite point for this awesome highlighting of such great geology.
Thanks mogni

I walked up to the top and then most of the way down into the middle. I’ve never walked into a volcano before!
We’ve walked up here a few times over the years, this was Feetlet’s first climb though! The track is much improved on the way up, but the track into the crater is much more overgrown than last time we were here. Lots of people doing the walk today. Rearranged the rocks in the centre as is tradition.
Wonderful walk up here today!
A bit of a last minute decision to come here before we leave, but it was a great one!
Thanks for putting this EarthCache here since it nudged us to visit.
Highly recommended if you come to this area!
Thanks for the info and the fun!

Continuing our Victorian trip with the family after some time at the Wang mega.
We venteured across into SA to a town we'd never been to before, this place come recommended to us before leaving home and it certainly surprised us. On a hot day the walk up was a little tough but once on top the breeze quickly cooled us and we were able to grab the answers.

We managed the climb to the top of Mount Schank and found the answers to the questions for this earthcache. These were sent to the CO and approval to log has been received.
This wa a climb but we got there with ilook4geo (huff, huff, puff, puff). It was worth the effort for the views and the earth cache. Thank you to mogni for bringing us here.

Got to the top of the mountain with goingplaces2 and had a really good view all round. This volcano was quite steep and deep so we stayed on the rim. Thanks for bringing us here by creating this earth cache.
Thank you for showing us this big crater. We could see a lonely goat climbing through the steep wall.

Visited Mt Schank with my family on 8/8/21. They sent in the answers. We all walked to the top.
Found with hevwalker TT0166 and PrincessAria and LittleGoose. We started the adventure to the summit ..... that was what it felt like....lol... so glad for the new style of steps up to the top... wasn't looking forward to the old style of steps that may of been like the ones up to Centenary Tower in the Mount. I'm not really very fit at the moment but with the flat areas to rest for a few seconds when I needed to I found it wasn't as bad as I had expected. Stopped at the rim for a wow.... great view... I've never been up here before even thou it had been on my to do list for several decades. We got all the answers and I have send them through for all of us. Thanks for the great adventure and the excerise. TFTEC. fav point from me
Today was a pleasant one to tackle a couple of Mt Schank caches with TT016, PrincessAria1, LittleGoose and scramping...
We all walked up to the edge of the crater...the girls did a great job walking the whole way without complaint...the track up is a huge improvement since I was here last which was many years ago...we stopped at each waypoint, checked out the requirements and answer the questions at each location...our answers will be sent by scramping on all our teams behalf...
Thanks for setting up this earthcache for our enjoyment mogni...we all enjoyed the walk

I came across the border to find a few caches to complete the science of discovery challenge.
After caching out Port Mac, I headed toward Mt Shank to visit my favourite volcano crater.

A lovely walk up the hill on Easter Sunday. Rex wasn’t at his most friendliest to all the children, why do they all think a little dog wants to be patted by little people .
Not keen on the new steps felt quite out of control on the way back down.
Great way to start the day.
Will send our answers soon. TFTC Mogni

Or the best weather with wild winds and random showers but up I went. I absolutely loved the way the path has been paved. It made walking up and then down quite painless. This cone is so beautiful and a classic shape I just enjoy it every time I make the effort to walk up see such a lovely crater. Thanks for enticing me up again and this time with questions to focus my attention TFTC mognt
Had a little bit too much to eat in the morning.... oops! Nothing better than a stroll to work some off. Such an amazing Volcano. I'm not sure i have seen one quite so complete. Normally they have one side blown out of them, at least! Thanks for bringing us here.

A return visit to Mt Schank had us able to log this earthcache, the nearby traditional and also the GCA Trig Point.
As per our previous visits we enjoyed the walk to the top immensely and all the lovely scenic views on the way too.
Many thanks for encouraging us to revisit this beautiful place mogni......a favourite point on it’s way.

The great Southeast Saunter with Anymules down to the Millicent area to find caches associated with the postponed GV2020 mega. But with leave organized and accommodation booked the caching trip was not postponed! [^]
Day 6: Today we grabbed a few nearby caches and once again those unusual D/T combinations to have a go at filling a Traditional Cache Fizzy. As usual there were plenty of stops along the way to grab other caches that we were passing.
It had been quite some time since I last climbed Mount Schank to get the old cache that was down in the centre of the Crater. As it turned out I was with the CO of this earthcache and after climbing up to the rim, descending into the middle, finding that cache, climbing back out, completing a circumnavigation of the rim and descending to the car park I managed to fall flat on my face in the last few steps. [B)][B)] So I was going to be real careful this time.
The route and steps that had been my undoing last time had changed in the meantime and I wondered if others had met the same fate as me. [^] The waypoints were attained and the questions answered. Anymules shot them of to the CO whilst we had phone reception on the summit. It was muggle central today and I was amused to see one Chinese girl taking on the steps in thongs. Coming out on the rim there were muggles everywhere - some down in the crater, some doing the loop and plenty more at the viewing platforms.
Another visit to this scenic spot was well worth it and this time I descended without incident.
PF from me. [:X] I like this place.
***Thanks mogni for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. ***

I am spending the long weekend down on the limestone coast ahead of the Millicent Celebration event.
I left Millicent early in the morning and headed to Mount Gambier before heading down to Port MacDonnell. I was targeting Earthcaches, solved mysteries, high terrain, high difficulty and a couple of old caches.
This place really amazed me. It was a bit of a hike up to the top but the views were awesome.
Answers collected and sent to CO.
A fav point from me.

As I currently work nearby on a dairy farm the rim walk up on Mount Schank was highly prioritized on my bucket list. The walk itself is just stunning as I have read so many things already about the volcanic area around Mount Gambier in the tourist center. I also made my way down to the inside of the cone.

Staying in Mount Gambier for a few days and decided to check out Mount Shank. What an amazing view!! We walked around the rim and it was well worth it.
Walked Mt Schank today, an enjoyable adventure, and did the rim walk and obtained the answers which were sent to the CO. Fav point for this amazing location
After a visit to the nearby Little Blue Lake EC it was time to ascend the mountain. Well, that was quite some walk up although those tilted steps really did help.
The pay off, along with the cache of course was the view into the maar. Thanks for the exercise, M.

A weekend down for some scuba diving around the sinkholes. Once we had finished with a few dives nearby, I suggested we had time to hike Mount Schank. I had only brought my thongs, so that was interesting, although the trail was in good shape, so wasn’t a problem.
Really enjoyed doing this walk and the views inside the dormant volcano were amazing. Even from around the outside and the flat farming land was nice. Collected the answers to this Earthcache and messaged the CO, thanks for setting this one up.

Spent the weekend in the area, so thought it worthwhile to grab this. Walked up and then climbed down into the crater where is was very quite and peaceful.

Making our way towards Mount Gambier this was another Earth Cache we wanted to do along the way.
The walk up really got the blood pumping but it was worth it once we arrived at the top and saw the view. Whilst there we battled a swarm of Lady Bugs that were all around this part of the rim. It was nice to see them and we didn't want to hurt them so we were constantly brushing them off.
Once we had all the required questions answered we decided to head down into the centre and have a look for the traditional there.
We never knew this area was so prolific with volcanoes and sinkholes. If it wasn’t for Earth Caches we would probably never find these little hidden gems.

Just how many times have I been here [?] I think I even have the photos to arm chair this one - but love being here when I am in the area. A quick visit and a few more steps to the daily count before a flight back to the big smoke.
Clear skies from TeamAstro.
Found on day 3 of our holiday to SE SA and SW VIC. After completing the climb (thankfully in the relative cool of the morning) we found ourselves atop the impressive mount schank. We collected the required clues on the way up even collected a GCA trig. Answers have been forwarded to the CO. Thank you for giving us the inspiration to visit this place and for teaching us new things. +1 FP for this one.
Great walk guided by the earthcache waypoints - thanks for developing such a informative adventure
logging with permission. The first cache for the new year and first cache for my birthday. Nice views from the edge. Didn't get rained on during this cache but then walked down to the bottom and got rained on almost all the way back to the car. fav point.

with the river rising we were told to go on holidays so what do you do.

Heading through to Mt Gambier from Portland we stopped here to enjoy the scenery and gather the answers for this earthcache. The walk up was pretty hard for one half of the team but we soldiered on knowing it would be worth it at the top. The view was magical and breathtaking and words can't describe the feeling being on top of the rim looking into the crater and over the countryside.

The new path is a lifesaver, that much easier than the old one and your body doesn't even move up into the possible heart attack area. I still haven't done the complete circuit of the rim, maybe in the cooler months. TFTC
What a brilliant example of a volcanic crater. Best I have seen. Took the geopups for a walk and ended up carrying them up the uphill parts around the rim. Really enjoyed this one and a fav point added. Thanks for bringing us here.
Climbed the vulcano on a windy evening. Amazing views from the top over the flat landscape Luckily vulcano did not wake up
Staying in Mt Gambier for a few days of relaxation with the hubby and geokids (age 4 & 6). Naturally I had to pick up a few caches in this cache filled town! We headed here early to beat the heat and make the hike. Up we all went huffing and puffing but making it fairly easily. And boy were we greeted with amazing views. So worth the effort. Just brilliant! Adding some pics to show how gorgeous. We also walked the rim which was spectacular as it gave us various views of the volcano and surrounds (like the smaller crater). Giving this EC a well deserved fav point. Answered have been emailed through. Many many thanks
Headed up to Mount Schank about 4.20pm, went to all the waypoints & answered the questions the best we could. And took lots of photos. Even had to google one of the questions as we had no idea what it meant, looked & nothing, then while heading to another waypoint geoson J spotted it. Awesome we all said. Its so great the people you meet while doing geocaching, people that have no idea what we are doing but love a great chat. . I helped one lady take a photo of herself up the top as she went up alone. Another gentleman rode his bike there & walked up/down 5 times with 5kg of weight in his backpack. That's dedication. This is a great area to come & learn about a volcano & do some exercise while here. Walk around the whole crater, its just incredible. Thanks mogni for bringing us here yet again. TFTEC
An interesting stroll and great views. Love your work.
