#13252 11:50Another chapter on the story of Ben Hall. Eugowra shows (a replica of) the coach which carried the gold and banknotes, and a mural portraying the Gardiner gang that executed the robbery; one of the members being our infamous Ben Hall. It was surprising to see that all bushrangers had decent, normal jobs, but were thieves in their spare time.Cache was found. TFTC Joshwa27.
Travelling with icu. Interesting history. Later went to Eugowra to view their murals. The floods in Nov 2022 really decimated this town. Such a pity but the town is fighting back. TFTC
I really enjoyed reading the description for this cache so of course made a point of us stopping here to visit the location of the robbery. Upon arriving I soon realised its likely not the exact spot but close enough is good enough for me. With not much to look at otherwise, we set about hunting for the cache which was a straight forward process, standing back assessing likely spots and happened to spot the hide on approach. Job jobbed, log signed, and cache returned to its hide it was time to get back on the road heading towards Orange.
Thanks for hiding one here joshwa27 and especially for taking the time to give some in depth detail on the events that occurred here and its aftermath. They don't teach much of this at school, that's one of the great things about this game. Cheers.

We're heading from West Wyalong to Bathurst today on day 6 of our week-long caching road trip, via a round about sort of route to allow me to find a cache in the few remaining NSW counties that I haven't yet visited as a cacher.
That this is a historic site was what encouraged us to pull up for this cache. I enjoyed reading about Ben's antics so thanks for highlighting it ... and for the cache too.

Having driven out towards Eugowra a couple of days ago, I hadn’t yet seen the township, so today I took the family for a drive to explore this lovely little town. We stopped by here on the way home and read up on the fascinating historical event that occurred here. The cache was soon found shortly after.

#3731 Second of eight finds on a beautiful day while travelling around the Central West. Found after a short search. TFTC
Found! Needed to get some chocolates out the back seat so pulled over here. As soon as I saw it was a historic site, I opened up the app and yes, there indeed was a cache here. Interesting hide, thanks!
Drove past here about two years ago, saw the cache to late.
Started my day at the grave of another bush range.
Than you for this one

This week I've been working on fence repairs with a Mr Noble living very close to this cache. Knowing we would be finishing the job today, I decided it was time to find this cache. So i started my day checking out the info and was surprised to see what exactly had occurred here. As we competed the job I asked Mr Noble, 3rd generation resident at Noble's Lagoon, about Australia's biggest gold robbery. He took us around to the rest area and told us all about it, including about his choice to keep the gate access open to the public and the trouble with people letting his cattle out in the past by leaving the gates open.
After hearing all about the event, the gates, and the information board he contributed to, he left us to wander through the area. You can enter through the gate. There are 2 signs in there pointing out locations. You can even get a selfie with a rocking escort if that's your thing. Haha
After that and finding this cache, we went into the still devastated town and got the usual iced coffee from the extremely popular "Fat" food truck. We wandered over for another look at the replica Ford & Co coach and were informed by the neighbours fixing their fence alongside the space where the coach resides that climbing up into the driver's seat wasn't a problem. So of course I did.
I actually managed to record some of Bruce's convo so decided to nave a video with it. It's a dodgy video though. youtube.com/watch?v=Y7jM6RZlEhM
Thanks for helping me find this piece of history. It made my week.

nice quick find.
Grabbed this while on a long weekend in Orange with the gremlinkids and a friend. Was an easy find - TFTC.
Quick stop on the way to the national park for the day, took a few minutes to find the right tree but found quickly after that
Fascinating story and a plaque give us a good insight into how the story unfolded. Clever place for the hide. TFTC
Found on the way to Eugowra. Fascinating story of the robbery, great location tftc

Thanks for all the history and an enjoyable cache. Saw the spot as looking like a nose but took a bit longer to sniff it out. Tftc
After enjoying a few hours in Nangar NP we are back out on the open road finding more drivebys.

Found at 2:01 PM GAFF1.
So why was only a minor member - Manns - hung? A great story that highlights the attempts in the early days to make it rich anyway possible.
Made this find a lot easier than it should have been as the hiding spot was bit exposed
Thanks Joshwa27

In Eugowra for the NSW orienteering champs. After today's event I dropped by here. I circled the tree many times looking up, down and in without any find. I had a break to take a phone call, and then decided to have one last look. This time I disturbed it from its hiding place. TFTC.

That took some looking, log was a little wet but signable, strange that no one had signed since the turkeys mid last year.
Evicted the spider that had taken up residence and returned the cache to its safe place

A fairly quick park n grab in the midday heat! One of the biggest surprises to me was that the cannon is still partially operational! Many others are all welded in place and painted over.
Was disappointed that we couldn’t get into Nangar as it was closed due to fire danger, so the best we could do in this area was to drop by Escort Rock. It was a stinker today so making a quick find of the cache was the only option. All in order here.
Heading south for the St. Arnaud event next month after leaving the QOGM in Blackall. Day 51 of our trip. Caching along the way. A total of 2 caches for the day and 1587 for the trip. TFTC
Queensland Outback Geomuster 2019 trip to Blackall. Day 1. I left after work today and traveled to Eugowra via Boorowa and Cowra. I only managed the one cache today, and it was done in the dark just before I set up camp for the night back in town.
Thanks.

On a short break and drive with a view of grabbing a few caches to fill in some missing New South Wales and Victorian LGAs along the way. Today as we head back towards home we made a very quick find of an out of back container after checking out the nearby historical site. With the cache in hand we signed the log and replaced as found. Both the cache container and log are in good condition. Thanks for the cache Joshwa27.

Found with the wife on her second ever geocache find. Easy find but walked over it before the wife kicked it and made the discovery. Nice hide!
Backdating logs found on a trip out west to assist with ses training. Broke up a long drive from Wollongong with a few smiles along the way

After coming from Forbes and visiting the Ben Hall sites our next stop was Eugowra.
I've always had an interest in our bushranger history so we were really looking forward to visiting some of these places. After admiring the excellent murals in town we made our way out here. It was great to be at this spot and take in the history. Cache was quickly located after seeing a few of these hides previously, TFTC.

Took way longer than I thought, I was on a totally different track even though I had a similar one yesterday @ 1143 tftc
Stayed at Eugowra and spent time looking at the murals so fabulous and the story is great
Coming here would be one of the highlights of our three week trip. I have recently read a book about the siege, so it was great to come and see the spot. I could picture where Gardiner and Hall and the rest of the gang waited and could picture the ensuing commotion.

In Orange with megawat60, and once the school reunion was done, we headed for a drive through Parkes and Forbes. A quick find, sleeping truckie took no notice. Thankyou for the story and the cache.
