A few minutes of searching was needed before I could track down the whereabouts of this nicely hidden cache. I Thought I had chosen a pleasant day to take on this walk but it is now getting warmer than I would really have liked. TFTC, DOCRangiora

Covered the cache container with more of the hint item, so that couldnt be seen so easily from the trail.Today our goal was to find as many caches in this series as possible. I had solved a lot of these some years ago and then had help from the caschers in our puzzle group earlier this year. So I was very pleased when Lis was organising this trip and she said we would come and find these caches. Apologies in advance for generic logs.FINALLY, and with humble apologies for being so late, I am catching up on my logging.Day 4 of The North Islanders in Canterbury tour with Liss Crew. We are targeting specific caches -oldies, and puzzles. Of course, there will be days of laughter.During our time here, all found caches were signed as NZL, regardless of whether either of us has found it previously, or with individual names for Challenge Caches according to whomever was claiming the find.Kia ora rawa atu for the cache DOCRangiora.

I'm from Paihia/Whangarei and I'm down in the South Island for 6 days with NZ_B on a geocaching trip.I had a few goals for the trip:*50 or 60 puzzles for my diamond badge on project gc*40 caches to get to my 6000th find*some South Island minutes for a challenge*but mostly a clean out of my ever growing solved puzzle list.Monday we collected the windmill geoart on our way to Oamaru. Tuesday the focus was solved A2O puzzles, the sunflowers and other solved puzzles. Wednesday we headed back to Christchurch collecting challenges and more solved puzzles. Todays focus is the Smile series around Lake Ellesmere. This was a traditional cache we collected as we passed along here. Thanks DOC for supporting this cycleway and thanks for the cache too Smile

Day #6 of my Geotour.
Geraldine to Akaroa via Ashburton, Burnham, Lincoln and now Birdlings Flat.
Hitting the Rail Trail before heading on to Little River.
I managed to solve 16 of the Smile series which I was pleased with.

I made this one far harder than it needed to be. Nearly gave up and then the doh moment.

Out on a ride with Shannonp1 to find the rail trail smile series which were all solved a long time ago and finally got the opportunity to pick them up, with a few bonus caches on a windy Sunday. Enjoyed the ride with a few other people also enjoying the ride. All found in good nick which was great. Thanks to the CO's for effort of placing and maintaining the caches.

Decided to go for a bike ride with Surveybase to knock off the rail trail smile series, (and a few others on a windy Sunday morning. Enjoyed the ride with a few other people also enjoying the ride. Found all that we looked for which was great. Thanks to the CO's for placing and maintaining the caches.

Had the day to myself and I had grand plans to try for a FTF by Mt Somers but those were thwarted. I planned to bike here... thwarted. I planned to walk up... thwarted. The weather was pies so I had the scheme to knock off a few Peninsula caches. Ended up clocking up 150 odd kms and 10 caches and a DNF. Great time out. I even found a spot of sun between rain showers. Had a lovely lunch in Little River and got home just before the cachelets came home from school.
Parked up nearby and walked to GZ. Lake Ellesmere was up to the rail bank! Quick find at GZ. I was muggled by a random dude on a MTB. I suspect he was stopping by for a toilet break but I scared him.

Thanks for the cache DOCRangiora.

No rain, no work, perfect reason to go on a caching adventure! A lot of fun except one cut on the finger ad one poke into the eye. 200km in the car, which involved a slight backtrack for an unexpected errand, and 20k steps. Overall a very nice day! Thanks to all the CO's for placing and maintaining the caches!!

14-Apr-18
Got the hint so tracked it down. Cache in great order. Thanks!

Weather wasn't too bad today, baby wasn't too upset, and there were caches to be found!! So all the homely tasks could wait, and off I took the baby caching to get these caches within 80km of home closer to being cleared out!!

I decided a walk along here would be nice - and sure enough, was great to get some exercise with the baby tied on the back, plus most of these weren't too bad to find!! Wahoo!!

A speedy one here Smile

TFTC!! Smile

Found with StreetWalkerNZ on the way back from a trip to Birdlings Flat.
Even though we had the bikes with us, we cho-cho-chose to walk the short distance to this cache from the nearby access. After a short fossick, SW changed the angle of search, and soon laid hands on the cache.
Thanks, DOCRangiora. It's a great trail, which we first biked a few years ago. TFTC.

#14370. We came across no muggles on this section of the trail. An initial search was unsuccessful, but when I went round the 'back' the cache was quickly spotted. TFTC.

The last one on the trail, so a lovely short walk in the rain to sign the log. Found the torch and after leaving one alone up at the Ashburton Lakes, I've claimed it as a useful emergency caching torch. A bit late to get the selfie in though Smile Cheers DOC

08-Oct-16
Parked where suggested which we have utilized before and went for the short walk to GZ. I am sure I have found a cache at the same location before. We have certainly been passed a time or two. Nice quick find.

13-Sep-16
TFTC. Out to Banks Pen to help a friend. Once finished I decided to take a couple of stock routes home and gather a few happy faces. Then Lake Forsythe was in my sights and on to the shores of Lake Ellesmere. The light was starting to drop, but the wander along the Rail Trail seemed pretty straightforward.
Got to GZ and spent a fair bit of time looking here and there. Then spotted the nice wee hidey location.
Thanks to DOC and Air NZ for sponsoring the cache. Great fun.

Sunday road trip around the area and a few on the trail. Love conservation week we were lucky enough to win a prize last year so will enter again .

02-Aug-16
Down for a few days and another chance to try and grab a few caches that I need for the DGSc Challenge (Challenge Elective) but only a small hope of collecting as time is the issue this time and most were infact collected after dark, so really it was a cache of being selective about what I went for.

After having collected Smile 21 it was a case of walking back to the car to head for the next. no problems here.

thanks for the cache, thanks for the placement

In town with a spare day and had the bike so decided to take advantage of the opportunity and grab some of these in the series that I'd solved. A beautiful scenic trail, although the heat of the day eventually got me. *TFTC DOCRangiora, #8588*

Haven't done much caching this year so far, so about time I got out there with my buddy Nosynel this was the first one we found. Cheers for the hide.

Nice day for a drive to Akaroa for lunch. The Summit Road road was fun, very cloudy with low visiblity. Plenty of cyclists too to watch out for.

Nice day for a walk, although it would have made more sense to bring the bike. Tidying up one of the DOC conservation week caches I didn't get to last weekend, easy find, thanks.

06-Nov-15
A delightful stroll and a quickish find. Had the rail trail all to ourselves. Even the lapping water was calm. Nice one DOC Thank you.

03-Nov-15
Found around 12:30am among an army of bugs and moths while out trying to chase the aurora. Lovely balmy warm night, the cache was soon in hand in its clever little cubbyhole. Thanks for the caches, that's another one in the ChCh-Rangiora DOC series sorted out, half way there now!

03-Nov-15
On my way home from Little River today I stopped for a quick hunt for this one. That makes two DoC Challenge caches today and leaves just two to find for this region. A nice quick find, I had to hang on to the log fairly tightly in today's wind!
TFTC Cool

03-Nov-15
Bumped into another cacher when reaching the gate who was here to find this DOC cache. Had a bit of a chat and then went our respective ways. This was a bonus one collected while trying to complete the Smile series

Cheers for the cache.

The Mega weekend was all about puzzles for Ghostgums and I, but when your on the trails, it's hard to walk past the traditionals when you are going within a few metres... Wink

So, while out and about with Jinta29, Kyzabra and The Green Geckos, we paused to scout around for this one and quickly had the cache in hand. With our details added to the log, it was tucked back in place and we carried on to the next. [^]

Cheers DOCRangiora.

24-Oct-15
Bit of Mega caching today. Out with a good bunch of Aussies. Great cache. Thank you DOCRangiora for placing and maintaining this cache. Smile

24-Oct-15
Cache was found on Day 3 of the NZ MEGA 2015 caching trip, as Gunnie69 and myself headed out towards to Akaroa area with Green Geckos, Kyzabra and Jinta29, to tackle the Smiles Series, before heading back towards Lincoln for a few choice smilies, and then finish off the day at the Mega site, with some lab caches and a few stray caches. Big Grin

24-Oct-15
A caching expedition that has been months in the planning. Jinta29 and I headed over from Perth, and met up with Gunnie69, GreenGeckos and GhostGums from QLD over here.
Our combined brain powers in the months leading up meant we were able to concentrate on the mysteries, and other unique Icons plus a number key D/T combos and jasmar dates.
We have had a ball over here. Personally my first trip to NZ. The cache owners have been great and Ive enjoyed meeting people aling the way.
i apologise in advance for the generic log.

DOCRangiora - Kyzabra found your cache I cho-cho-choose to ride the rail trail on 24/10/2015, 9:00 AM. This is my find #4085 and find #13 today. The cache is in good shape and we replaced it as found. Thanks for placing this and bringing us to this spot!

I ch-ch-choose to wslk it from the parking spot - a place i know well from looking for the Smile series of puzzles that are along the trail. You did well to slot this cache in between.
Quick find and sign on a wee detour home.
I left the keyring and selfie competition for the next finder.
I look forward to looking for the other DOC caches in the region once MEGA mayhem has finished!
Cheers.
