What a great idea...hold an event to gather together some cachers with a similar goal...Kaipupu sanctuary. Having been in Marlborough for 15 or so years this has been a 'to-do' for the family. Unfortunately, due to sickness, the rest of the family couldn't attend. After the short boat ride, we were here.So many thanks to the out of town event CO for arranging this, and taking a few TB away. This was the fifth find for the day for me, the anticlockwise group, signing as Kruze or Cruze, depending on who actually signed the log.
Eighteen cachers had a great day at Kaipupu finding all the caches and doing some maintenance. With lots of people there never was a shortage of eagle-eyed searchers willing to risk life and limb to find the cache. We signed the log "Cruise" or something like that. TFTC.
A fun day out exploring Kaipupu and great turnout, thanks to all the cache owners and Agazo for organising the day.
We were in Picton to attend the Event, GCAQHRW Kaipupu Cruise which naturally meant we were visiting this sanctuary, a long held wish.On arrival at the jetty were were greeted by a lone seal basking on the steps.Soon enough we wandered off as a group to begin the hunt for caches, all of which were found and signed as a group with variations of kruze.Thank you taybee nz.
We had to wriggle some other commitments to attend this event. The destination had been on the bucket list for a long time and the opportunity to visit with a group of cachers was to much to resist. Somehow I became part of the "clockwise group" but the circular track prevents anybody getting lost and indeed we met about halfway. Here we realised that clockwise would have been the intention of the CO as the no exit track extension led to the Bonus cache after this one. Since we had the solution of the puzzle that subbed the outcome of accumulated codes out of found caches we were not at a disadvantage and progressed uphill where KR made the find before we progressed to the Bonus up top.
Out for a walk after our Kaipupu Cruise to the peninsula. Our group of 18 stretched out with a few taking the opposite direction. The group I was with signed the logs as Kruze for convenience. The caches were all relatively easy to find and in good order. Thanks for placing them so we could enjoy the sanctuary.
We spotted and heard quite a few korimako during our visit. Great views of Mabel Island and Queen Charlotte Sound from here.
A nice quick find. Signed as Kreze, or Kruze or some variation. A lovely place for a wander, and the company was great too. Thanks for placing your cache. Ms_KR and I are off on cruise up to Nelson and Picton. Today we cruised to Kaipupu and had a good walk, then we walked up to Humphries dam. We had a good day, with good company, and fine weather all day.Occassionally signed MK+KR on cache logs, and apologies for the generic logs. Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches.
Visited as part of the great outing organised by Agazo. An island full of caches and cachers, what could be a better way to spend a beautiful winters day!! TFTC!!
I didn't see or hear any korimako on the walk today. I was quite impressed by the effort someone or some people have taken to include the mosaics here. For some reason I had expected a lot more up on the track but it has been pretty easy to here. A short stop before heading up to the summit. TFTC #22,279
TARVG2014 and I hadn't decided on our plans for King's Birthday Weekend, but figured that we would fit in some caching. When we saw the event for a visit to the Kaipp Sanctuary it was a no-brainer. An early start from Tasman to make the RV, but all went according to plan and it was good to see the group assembled. The caches themselves were all fairly straight forward although a bit of scrambling for a couple. The log was signed "KREWZ" or similar for the group. There were a few different spelling options proposed, so there might be some variability. Thanks to everyone who attended for making it such an enjoyable event, and especially to Agazo for organising. Thanks for the cache.
Heard some korimako singing beautifully today. I had that as my fone ring tone once, but it was too confusing on a bush walk!Thank you COs
Found with the Kaipupu cruise group on a mild winters day. There was a bit of an uphill grunt from Rata to here, so was pleased to see the picnic spot, with great views of the sound, just before reaching GZ. A great place to rest and catch up with others here. And have a bit to eat and a drink . TFTC.
#23800. A quick find by another in the party (log was signed as Kruze, or some variant thereof). After a quick break in the substantial picnic area, it was time to do a side trip to the summit. TFTC.
Found it! Took the detour and just guessed where to look as gps was bouncy. Luckily I was right and my eye found it pretty quickly. Everything looks pretty good! Tftc!!
Only two hours to do the loop so in a hurry. Previous logs helping as several a bit off track.
Found together with JaapAndHar while attempting to find all the geocaches on the island. Unfortunately we werent able to find them all and ran out of time to search near the potential GZ with incomplete coordinates. Turns out three hours isnt sufficient.
Found. Had some great views and now I'm not sure which cache was which.
At least I brought a pen with me today. The last few finds were photo logs which gets very confusing.
Thanks for the cache series. Didn't have time to attempt the multicache, with only 2 hours it was a little tight anyway, and the rain has been falling ever since we got back to Picton.

Great view of Queen Charlotte Sound at this lookout Point
A day trip across to Kaipupu Point to see if we could find me any Kiwi nesting in the Penguin boxes. RNZ has spotted nesting Kiwi on two previous visits here, not today though Instead we came back to our Kayaks after walking the loop track around the Sanctuary to find 3 seals on the jetty

A bit of a tough find. While the other two had a seat a bit lower down and enjoyed the views, I went for a bit of a search. It was well wrapped up and camoed so I took a while to spot it, but it looked a little out of place so that is why I went that way. Lots of loot in this container. Took nothing, left nothing. On the way out we came across two adult seals and a baby. It took some skill to get us safely back on the water, but even then Captain Andy got charged at by the female. An eventful little trip. TFTC Taybee and Seagnoid.
A weekend trip across to Kaipupu for myself, RG1972 and our muggle paddling friend Andy.
This is my fourth time over here I think, and I have still not got this geocaching series ticked off. With two caches today, and the figures now gathered for the bonus, that just leaves the final for me to claim if I ever come back.
It was a pleasant paddle over at the port was like a millpond. One of the main reasons for the trip was to see what bird life was nesting in the boxes. On that front, we had no joy. We were hoping for a kiwi or two, as we have seen on a couple of previous trips. But despite evidence of scratching around the entrances, there were no birds.
We still had a good walk around and enjoyed the birdsong while I grabbed a couple of caches.

This was not what we were looking for, but we saw something that didn't belong. My dad was happy to join and learn about what a cache is. Both container and logbook were in good condition.
Nice hide. Box of goodies but i couldn't see a log. Someone put paper on so used that
Mrs gonefishing and I are finishing up our holiday in the top of the South, trying to do new things we haven't done before. A wander around Kaipupu ticked all the boxes. Our own boat is back in Wellington this time, so we caught a water taxi. It seems that Arrow Water Taxis closed up shop due to the covid traffic light thing, so options are Beachcomber or Cougar. We chose Beachcomber and got a private hire for $80 for the boat, so $40 each for the two of us. Very helpful and were happy to accommodate our request to delay our pickup by 30 mins to allow completion of the final cache. It took exactly 3 hours to complete all caches, including revisiting 2 at the start because I forgot to collect the codes.
This one took a few minutes looking around in the bush to find the right spot.
Overall, an excellent day's caching, and very happy to have found everything as they are not all easy. However, I am a bit conflicted about the amount of bush bashing off track to find most of these. Seems at odds with the values of a reserve?

This one was located with not to much trouble. It was our last for the day before heading back to Picton
A boat trip over to the ecosanctuary with Arandee. We did the loop but missed a couple of caches on the way. We collected enough information for the puzzle, but ran out of time to look for it. Thanks for the hide.
A great walk with some great views, we enjoyed watching a large boat come in to pick up logs. Tftc!
I found the cache while in town with Norwegian Jewel.
Thank you for the cache and many greetings from germany.

Easy find tftc, great views stopping here, saw a couple of penguins! Weekend out with geeves90 and hayzz
On the spur of the moment this morning, spacenarwhale and I decided to take a school holiday cruise out of Picton (I have so much work to do and I am such a procrastinator!). It included 40 minutes at Kaipupu and I was determined that I would find at least one cache. Well, that's what I found!
I spent a few minutes trying to find one lower on the main trail, but I kept being disturbed by passing muggles. There were, however, no muggles on this nicely tucked away part of the trail! By the time I found the nice big jar and poked it gingerly with a stick to ensure it wasn't some form of pest trap, I was starting to get a bit worried about time. I had noticed in my brief check of the previous log that Edvern had dropped a Travel Bug and I was determined to pick it up. So, I hurriedly tipped the jar out and grabbed the well-labelled "Log" pill bottle, twisted it open, shook it several times to extract the tightly rolled log, signed my name and returned it to its container. Quickly putting back the obvious (and numerous) swag items, I was left with an open plastic baggie in which I could clearly see a TB dog-tag, a folded bit of paper (obviously its mission) and what appeared to be a baby bib (I am no longer surprised by what I find attached to dog-tags, not since having to find a cache big enough for a shoe). With visions of the boat leaving without me and spacenarwhale, I grabbed the baggie, rehid the container, and headed back down the hill.
Back on the boat as we waited for the final quarter of our 40 minute stay to pass, I excitedly showed spacenarwhale the new TB...oh, wait, that's not a bib. In fact, it's 10 plastic "BabyBoy" gift bags. Oops, it's swag. (I promise to place it in the next cache I find.). Okay, that's a bit embarrassing. Oh, well, let's see what its mission...oh, wait. That's not its mission. That's a secondary log started by a previous finder. Ooops. I guess I'll be attaching a photo of that to my electronic log.
Obviously, slow and steady is the right pace for me. Thank you for the cache, I really enjoyed my adrenaline-pumped visit to it!

Enjoying our first visit to Kaipupu Point on a fine sunny day. A family outing on Fathers' Day, three generations of us. Good to find a good sized container here and the contents are all good. Dropped off a TB. Thanks for placing these caches here.
Visiting Picton over Easter for a family reunion. We came to Kaipupu on a boat trip and really enjoyed our walk around the loop track today. Heard lots of korimakos! It was a bonus to find a few caches along the walk. I introduced one of my muggle aunts to geocaching with this one, it was a quick find too. Tftc!
That was a bit of bush bashing. I am in love with this island and the caches. We’re here before a cruise ship arrives. Perfect day
Well back in Denmark again after my fourth visit to New Zealand. Luckily I also had time to go geocaching down under, and now it is time to long all my finds.

The main event for me today was to find as many of the cache in the Kaipupu Wildlife Sanctuary as I could. I took a water taxi from Picton and gave myself plenty of time to walk around, look for caches and explore the tracks and trails. Apart from the caches, spotting a pair of penguins was a real bonus. This one took me ages to find. I eventually found the cache a lot closer to the track than indicated by the hint. I replaced it in a logical spot where my GPS zero'd out and matched the hint. TFTC, Biggles.
Finally made it to Kaipupu with Annacons after a series of unfortunate events leading to cancelled trips - third time lucky. On this rainy afternoon we felt quite smug when we boarded our huge, largely empty boat, then watched a group of 40 file onto that boat from Kaipupu, leaving us with the place almost too ourselves.
Got this one after a short search, kids were thrilled with the "treasure". Tftc.

My GPS map did not have the tracks so I did not know which side of the tracks I was supposed to be. GPS all over the place. I did not realise there was a track up to the look out because it was not on the map given to me by the water taxi company. All in all I had no idea where I was supposed to be because I thought the reference to a track was the main track and I never got to within 6m of the cache. Not having a good day.
It took me a while to realise we had to leave the main track for this one. My new eTrex Touch was struggling today with the tree cover but persistence paid off and we eventually spotted the cache's protective bag.
Thanks Taybee NZ and the Seagnoid.
Thanks Taybee NZ and the Seagnoid.
Stunning views as we found this as the ferry returned and a cruise ship left harbour. Kids currently meandering further up the track. Super peaceful and appreciating it all. Tftc
Spent a very enjoyable morning rambling around this reserve. The second of seven and a straightforward find in a lovely location. Signed log, TFTC.
For some reason this one took a bit longer to find. My GPS is struggling to settle under the canopy, but sveppi's appears more accurate. I decided to re-calibrate the compass shortly after this cache.
Find 2/7 while completing this track. An intersting reserve and we are enjoying the shade. Easy find. TFTC
Nice quick find thanks to the excellent coords and hint. Kayaked over from Picton with my wife on our inflatable kayak. Very pleasant paddle, the highlight of which was two close encounters with seals, playing gently in the waves right beside us. We saw five in all, four small (female?) ones and one grumpy large one. A wonderful day out!
Lots of trinkets but no logbook - signed the replacement log that others have been using. Really enjoyed wandering around the Sanctuary, kayaked over from Picton. Found all the caches except the first one, but that was sufficient to find the mystery one Thanks for the big containers, easy to search today - only one other person on the island.
A glorious day for our 2nd visit to Kaipupu Pt. Confident that we would find a Kiwi there today and we weren't disappointed! Added bonus is that we finally got to the last 3 caches (including our first ever T5, with 3 little kids in tow!), saw a skink, heaps of seals lazing about, gannets feeding close by and, got the code for the new Kiwi Guardian post. An all round top day! TFTC
I have been wanting to come to this Island for a while. My birthday was coming up, so I thought- the kids will do what I want to do, so I investigated possible ways of getting there. The kayak hire place will only hire to/for people over 16yrs, so that ruled that out (and it would probably take too long with kids) The water taxi was going to be $80 for 1 adult or 4 adults, so I put a post on FB to see if any friends had a boat and would like to take us, or if someone would like to join us to share the cost. To my amazement, a friend messaged saying she would be happy to take us- YAY! This couple (and small child) had not geocached before, and one was a pure natural and found most of the caches!
It was a beautiful day, flat for the boat ride and sunny.
While the others sat at the table and had a break, I went up the hill to search, A comment was made that I was taking a long time, so I had to say back- that that amount of time, was not a long time to be looking, it has only been about 3 minutes. Damien came up to give me a hand, and found it fairly quickly. He is getting the hang of it!

Working bee on at Kaipupu so have joined the team for a free trip and hopefully enough time to spare to snag a cache. Finished digging out sand traps by 12.15 so a few spare minutes to come and snag this. Nigel kept putting me parallel with the main path but then changed his mind and its up the bank we go, with a slip back down in the bargin. OK this is the track we should have taken. Easy find at GZ with cache on ground. Cheers
taybee nz I found your cache Kaipupu - korimako (Marlborough) on 24/12/16, 3:17 pm. This is my find #1812 and find #8 today. Was on an official tour and when no one looking ducked off into the bush for an easy find. Thanks for the cache! TNSLLN
Number 2 with the first one signed it was onto the second one for me ... I knew what I was looking for and into the Bush I went hmmmm this one is a bit different I will keep that in mind for the next one ... Signed the log and back to my bag I left on the track to log it hmmmm there was a traveling bug bug in that one so I get one of the ones I had bought with me to make a swap hunted through the impressive range of loot but no traveling bug to be found .... So everything back the way it was and into the next .... TFTC great job placing these a lot of thought and preparing went into these
I'm sure I heard bellbirds on my walk but didn't see any. Found cache easily, took the TB. TFTC

Today is the day that the Woodbourne air base's Adventure Sports Club decided to hit the water. Three boats - one full of walkers/runners for the Queen Charlotte track and two full of geocachers: myself, capperz, gh6710, bumandworker, NZDi, Raisonpig, nightowl and kiwimykl. We arrived at our first cache just on dawn and finished up about 3pm. Probably sunburnt. I'll know tomorrow.
Man, I love the wildlife on those protected islands out in the sounds! Saw weka, robins, saddlebacks, bellbirds, kakariki, even the Spirit of New Zealand and a pod of four Hector's dolphins on the way back. And some fantastic views!
Saw loads of bellbirds today, but none on the Sanctuary - I did hear them last time I was here though.
This cache was placed by Taybee NZ during our big placement around the sanctuary. At long last I am back to claim a find on his cache.

A great trip out on the water with the regular work caching crew, and a couple of other familiar faces. Having cached out most of the outer Queen Charlotte sound, it was back here for these recently added caches in the Kaipupu reserve area. A water taxi load of cruise ship passengers was also visiting the area but went the other way. Another larger sized container soon found after a bit of a scramble around. T F T C
A beautiful day out in the QC sound with a great bunch of other geocachers.
After grabbing a few in various bays and islands - we ended up here to circumnavigate this wonderful sanctuary. It was decided to go anticlockwise - as there was a small group of passengers off the nearby cruise ship here having a look round.
Slightly off track here for a scratch around some large trees - before heading up the hill

The RNZAF Base Woodbourne Adventure Sports Club holds regular trips into the Marlborough Sounds mainly to cater for members who wish to tramp/walk/run the many tracks and walks available. However since geocaching has been included under the 'Adventure Sports' umbrella, these trips have become more popular. Today three boats headed out at 'Zero Dark Early' for a day on the sounds, one full of walkers and runners and two full of geocachers and their families and friends.
Today we collected a variety of caches, some on the mainland and others on various outlying islands mainly requiring boat access only, the caches on this 'mainland island' were the major attraction today and we were surprised at how many other boats turned up while we were there. There has certainly been a lot of work done to get this sanctuary predator free however the birdlife is yet to reestablish itself to the same level as Motuara Island which we visited earlier in the day, but I'm sure it won't be long before it does.
This cache was found by some of the others a little bit off the track. Not wanting to trample the bush un-necessarily, I remained on the track while the paperwork was completed.

Today is one of the regular Adventure sports club (including Geocaching as a sport) day ot by boat in the Marlborough Sounds. Launching out of Picton Harbour at 0700, or thereabouts, we set sail for a few cache sites. Headed off and grabbed a grand total of six T5 caches, visited Motuara Island for the fantastic wildlife that abounds there and had a great day in some really good company. Team cachers were GH6710, Kiwimykl, Raisinpig, Nightowl19, bumandworker, nzdi and of course the Seagnoid. We signed some or most logs as Team RNZAF plus 2 or similar. Really hot today and got to see some really cool things; Hector's dolphins, saddlebacks, robins, penguins, fish, Spirit of New Zealand sailing ship and so much more!
Headed here after a successful trip to the outer Sounds to grab the caches before the afternoon swells change the landscape (seascape) out there. Docked up and headed onto the tracks for a couple of hours of caching in this great weather. Surprisingly little birdlife evident today, just a coupe of bellbirds and fantails.
Heading round the track and taking it in turns to hunt/find and record the required final numbers.

Had a quick bite to eat before picking this special place as a resting place for the glass orb containing dog ashes from a street dog that was hit by a bus in Austin texas. Tftc
We eventually found it! Clever placing. Beautiful sitting at the view point and looking through all the 'treasure'.
Hooray, we have found one! Having eventually found a reasonable entry point the fittest was sent in to do the searching and luckily came up with the goods. We took the cache back to the picnic table, the 4 year old was allowed to swap one item of treasure, the log was signed after kaala ( other later signature not seen). The cache was returned to its hiding place and we left to continue 90 minutes after leaving the jetty, we'll have to get a move on! Thanks very much for placing.
Kaipupu - korimako (Marlborough) was transferred from the Seagnoid to user taybee nz
Finally, the eagle-eyed Blue Duck spotted something that was a little out of place. Yes, it was the elusive cache. After two earlier DNF's this was a good omen. It also served as a reminder that we should not be out there with pre-conceived ideas of just what we are looking for. Thanks Seagnoid
Find some more of the caches round Picton, today it is mainly about water.
Started with paddle to here in flat calm, the wind (and waves) very soon picked up.
Found four caches before heading back to Picton.
Thanks for the cache..
