Day 12 of my Stepping Up to Breast Cancer 114km August Walking Challenge. Today's effort from O'Brien's Crossing was 7.25km.I loved what I did of this series today and thoroughly enjoyed lunch on the far side of the tunnel before returning. This was #8 and another very cool hide.Geolabradog & I spent a long time lunching & exploring on the far side of the tunnel. I planned to continue but with no full download, I decided it unwise. Many thanks

I think i will finish my walk here today as i am wearing shorts and not interested in bush bashing in the heat. It has been great so far, i dont want to spoil it! Thanks for the lovely stroll.

The Trip

I think the stars have finally aligned for a two night trip, caching and camping along the Great Dividing Range. It seems that every time i have planned a caching trip in the last six months something has come up to thwart my plans or cut my trip short. I have high hopes that this week it will be perfect.

I started at Moorabool Reservoir and will be collecting caches from there in the direction of Riddells Creek although i have a lot to find so am unlikely to make it that far. The weather is glorious and there is a cool lilt in the air which makes for a pleasant change from home, and the shady forests are vibrant.

Champagne caching!

GT37 did these last week, so as we weren't far away, I decided to grab some smileys here as well. Great to get some more of these done. Hope to eventually do them all. Thanks for the cache and bringing us to this lovely area.

Fun, adventure, travel, history, geology, mental stimulation, social gatherings, support and friendship are just some of the elements of geocaching.

Out and about enjoying the opportunity to grab a few caches, yours being one of those I targeted on my journey today. Thanks ??

Thanks mudbrick for placing this cache and adding to our game.

Well, I can think of worse ways to make my way to the twentieth anniversary of our State's first Geocaching get-together than continuing the search for Yorick that began during the fifteen year celebration, but not many better ways. Especially in the company of such a fun group of intrepid expedition members.

It's certainly different, being in the middle of a group hike, finding caches.

Every one of these caches is a work of art, mudbrick

Of course, a few of us couldn't resist going down the track to see if we could get to the next closest cache, but the river's running a bit high. Well worth it for the views, though.

Nice to be out exploring this track again and finishing it off. Great to come with a group too as the comradeship keeps you going! Ha ha. Always such great and slightly crazy caches. Thanks so much for putting these out and making me explore such a beautiful area. Signed as event crew!

25-Jun-22
Always good to find a regular cache. We decided to stop here and backtrack before continuing on.

Found with our large expedition group. The log was signed 'The Event Crew'. This is an excellent series with very well themed caches. Thank you mudbrick.

Alas poor Yorick! I knew him NOT and really “there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” But either way I thinks this fun. And, yippeee -no disappointments and all approached with anticipation - the planets aligned and I made the trek from afar, bunked in the girliemobile for the night at Pykes and then headed to the brekky event followed by a tramp in the bush to find these fab Yoricks caches and then to the grand finale ’20 year celebration event’. This whole series has been totally rewarding and impressive. TFTC and the superb planning that has been created for our enjoyment. An odyssey indeed.

25-Jun-22
A day to find out how many Yoricks there really are around this area.
I always thought there was only one, but I seem to be incorrect.
The day started at dawn (not so early this time of the year), and continued with a nice walk and two events.
A lovely day for a good walk, good companions, and excellent caches.

This cache was found and some went down the slope to check out the river.
Being winter it was fairly high, so it was decided to backtrack and go around.
Mind you this took a fair bit of time to decide!
Thanks, Robmc.

Not able to join the big group earlier this morning, Chook hatched a plan with OzHockeyChick and Geoturtle37 to do the Byers Back Track section of Yorick caches today, on the way to the Celebration Event at OBriens Crossing. We started at Gribbles Track and made our way down to this cache, being the first of the day for us. Chook, with Chunk, had done some of these caches a few years ago, and this one did not disappoint. TFTC mudbrick for this awesome series!

*Found on the 25 Jun 2022 @ 8:41 am.*
*Cache find # 13003.*

It was a great day for a hike and after the earlier event a group headed off along the trails around the hills on Yorick's odyssey in search of many bones with lots of interesting caches to find.
It was a great morning and we finished into for the CCE.

**Thanks to mudbrick for placing this cache.**

25-Jun-22
It was an early start to the morning. After a breakfast event it was off to search the bush for Yorick! I joined a crew of explorers making their way on and off the trails to find this series of caches.

This was the turning point - do we go down to the tunnel and cross, or do we turn back and make our way down a different path. The consensus was to stay dry!

Thanks mudbrick for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to find.

Our adventures with Yorick actually began back in May 2017, after a Pykes Creek adventure.
As soon as we learnt of today’s plans we were determined not to be alone trekking through the forest in search of more of the cleverly constructed caches containing remnants of the ghoulish nature of the legendary characters.
A somewhat early start from home (5:30am) found us gathering with a number of other intrepid cachers from near and far. Together we trekked over, under and around for about four hours, discovering and logging caches along the way as 'Event Crew' as we made our way through the forest.
What an awesome series!

Thanks mudbrick for this amazing series.

OzHockeyChick invited me to spend a day caching with herself and Chook (of ChooknChunk). We had a fabulous day and tackled the Yorick series. I had done a number of these about 5 years ago but hadn't logged them so making sure I do this time. Great to meet the CO whilst on the trail. Thanks for the great caches. They were all heaps of fun and have had a lot of thought and effort put into them.

25-Jun-22
Found with dalerious and a group of cachers which included the illustrious CO of this magnificent series Cool.
I had no idea what to expect when we placed this series of caches on our list to be undertaken between two events, in an area dalerious and I have not been to before.
The morning started early and we nearly missed the boat getting to the first event with just enough time to hastily pack a bag, say our goodbyes to the rest of the group who were not hiking with us.
Once on the walk, we caught up to a gentleman and said g'day Big Grin. It was the CO himself. It was a lovely surprise to meet you as we didn't know you were there due to us missing the important introductions.
It was a pleasure to meet you, mudbrick Big GrinCool.

I have never had the pleasure of doing a series to which each and every container was made with such great attention to detail, and as for the theme, well that was well and truly up my alley Razz. The excitement was palpable, and we were all eager to get to the next cache to see what the container was going to be.
You kept the theme going perfectly, and we were in awe at how you found so many quality props for the hides [xx(].
I cannot say too much about our wander around this beautiful area, signing our name in a series that we will never forget, and will talk about for a long time Big Grin.
mudbrick, you truly are a master of the game.

Thank you sir for the privilege.

From here our mob backtracked to prevent making more Yoricks at a slippery river crossing. [xx(] [xx(] [xx(] Twisted
We went the long way round. [^]

I've read my fair share of The Bard. Cool
Shakespeare was compulsory reading back in my highschool days, and with an interest in amateur theatre also, there was a time that I could recite Prince Hamlet's soliloquy in the graveyard verbatim. [^]
What I was clueless about though, before commencing this series of Yorick caches, was the number of favourite points needed in the bank to do it justice. Surprised
I was grossly under-prepared. Twisted
Catnap777 and I tagged along with the rest of the Event Crew as our morbid mob thrilled at each and every unique cache container we "exhumed" on this excellent hike in good company with the added treat of having the CO walking along with us. Cool

TFTC and series mudbrick. You too truly are a man of infinite jest. [:o)] [^]

A nice little find

25-Jun-22
The view of the tunnel was pretty good here as a fair bit of water was flowing through it. Gosh, I haven't been out this way for over 25 years...when I was much fitter too I may say. But still managed to keep up, enjoyed the walk thoroughly. (Will see how the body feels tomorrow though.......)

The group had left us behind and left 2 arrows; one made of stone and one of wood pointing which way they went and I missed both of them because I was following the GPS

18-Feb-22
with the new lands of lerderderg on the horizon, a promise was made:
we will be safe
we will stay on track
we will wade carefully

such an assurance is for the common good
we do not know the hills and tracks and trails of this place. today was the first trip into lerderderg proper and was done like dipping a tentative toe into the bathwater
those left at home want to know that the bathwater is a suitable temperature
that we won’t drown in these unfamiliar waters
slipping down the steep slick sides of the bath to the rocky bed below

but some good news
we enjoyed our wade and paddle
a pleasant splash in pleasant waters with not a croc in sight

so next time:
we will swim

Found after a bit of searching on a hike down to the tunnel. Tftc!

13-Oct-19
Turns out my dog can tight rope walk! He took crossing the river in his stride, gingerly walking over a large fallen log so we didn’t get our feet wet while crossing to the other side. Love being out here by myself in the bush. So peaceful. Equally glad to have my canine companion by my side <3 TFTC

Cache checked, unfortunately one of the three skeletons ( the white one ) has been purloined, leaving oonly a black & a red one, resulting in a cache name change from saints to dons essendon). Such is life. Cache now OK.

The others waited at the junction and were well rested by the time I caught up but nevertheless, there was still time for a quick find at 11:45. Now, down to The Tunnel.

By this point this is where we went off track and the fun began. Would be fun to drive up this hill!

I had been interested in coming out this way to tackle the Yorrick series for a while but never had the time or excuse to be here. When I saw the nearby 15 years event published and had a free day I locked it into the calendar. After picking up a couple on the way into the event and then spending time chatting with other cachers the time came to set off for the rest of them on foot. In total it took me about 3 hours to do the circuit, a beautiful and at times challenging walk with plenty of interesting containers and hides along the way. A great deal of time and effort has gone into scouting these locations and then creating the hides for everyone to enjoying finding them.

A nice quick find at the crossroads here and now a decision to make. Do I head back along the path I had come or down the hill to the more difficult stretch of the series. Oh well, I've come this far I may as well keep going and check it out at least. Thanks for the cache mudbrick.

**Big Grin Smile # *4257* / Traditional # *3252* Big Grin**

I had planned a long weekend to do a hiking trip, after some plan changes and bad weather, I decided to hike in the Lerdy. The geo wife was happy for me to be away for a little while, so with the geo vehicle packing with all sorts of things, I was off. The road was muggle free before I hit the camp ground where it was very busy and I had to find a spot to park and stay.

A quick find as I came to the cross road. I thought I have have seen others hiking at this stage, but not another soul while on my journey. A quick find and another nice one. Stamped and returned as found.

**Thanks for placing this trad cache and wonderful series mudbrick** [^]
**Cache container and log in good condition**

06-Sep-16
Having previously completed a few of this series, Bogonhazy, the geo dogs and I decided to take advantage of the beautiful day and headed to O'Briens Crossing for a bbq and a geo-adventure. What a day it was. Relaxing, exhausting and exciting. I didn't think I had it in me to complete the series. The first part nearly killed my unfit body but after we got going the views, beautiful country side and the adventure made the 2 1/2 hr trek exhilarating. We made a few wrong turns but it just added to the adventure. Cliff descents, rock climbs and even a tree crossing - all unnecessary but so much fun. The dogs, BH and I all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and even though I was cursing your name at a few points, definitely my favourite bush adventure to date. Thanks Muddy for another fantastic series. Love your work xx

06-Sep-16
After doing the previous 8 caches from the road, Leetalicious and I grabbed the two geodogs, Tess and Worf, and decided to make a day of it and head to O'Brien's Crossing to do the rest. We started with the little gas cooker grilling up a steak sandwich at the crossing and a cold drink each, then packed it all up and off we went.
A tough first section got the heart racing before it levels out to a well defined track on relatively level terrain. Each and every cache has it's trademark Muddie signature. You are guaranteed a quick find because they're huge and with accurate coords, and a smile as you unveil the cover to reveal another well themed hilarious take on poor Yorick.
A fabulous walk that involved 2 river crossings, an amazing tunnel, an old hut, and almost too many breathtaking views of the river and surrounds. 2 1/2 hrs of pure exhilaration in a wonderful part of the state so close to where we live.
Adding a fave point to all of these, really appreciate the thought and effort you put into all your caches Graeme. These are the types of caches that make you fall in love with our game.
Cheers Phil

When I got the call out from DAB asking if I wanted to join him for a hike in Lerderderg I quickly responded with a massive Hell Yea.
We set a date and made the trip out to tackle this awesome series, this has to be one of the most creative series know to man with every hide so unique and well fitting to the name.
The sun was shinning and not a cloud in the sky making for an amazing day for a hike.
As we were getting closer and closer to this one we could hear voices, we were hoping they were some hikers.
But nope it was a whole school group sitting right at GZ, we had a chat with the teachers and then moved on, we did not want to put this cache in harms way.
We will have to return in the future.

05-Sep-16
AAhh Lerderderg... how I missed thee... It has been way too long since I have hiked here and today I succumbed to the call of the cache !! I had driven and claimed the first 8, but I was salivating to stretch the legs and finish this series. It was a bit of a change today, as I usually hike solo. Today I had the pleasure of hiking with Chris from The_Tritonz. With the GPS loaded and the sun shining we set off on our journey into the unknown.
Of all the luck..... On approach to this hide Chris mentioned that he could hear voices. I could hear them as well, hopefully it's just a couple of bushwalkers. As we round the corner , what do we see ??? Not a few bushwalkers but a whole bloody class of school kids and 2 teachers !! It wouldn't be so bad if they were moving along, but no, they were happily all sitting down within metres of the hide...... After a quick chat to the teachers we had to leave empty handed. Of all the luck..... Oh well, looks like I'm returning here !! Thanks for the hunt mudbrick Smile

I was out for my monthly caching trip with Biggles Bear, this time aiming for the Altona and Yorick's Odyssey series. We liked the variety of the hides and enjoyed the walk around the circuit.

On this fine windy May morning I drove in from Gisborne to O'Brien's Crossing, planning to do 14 caches in the walking series first whilst I was fresh. In the end I did 15 as I detoured to picked up one of the puzzles on the way back. All in all I took 2 hrs and 15 mins for these 15 which will give others some idea of the time needed.
For quite a while now the track contoured beautifully around the hillside sticking at just over 500m, perfect walking conditions.
Time to leave the contour level here and descend to the roaring river below! or is that just the wind roaring?
Thanks Mudbrick

22-May-16
With our newly found muggle family in tow, we let the kids discover the cache, definitely a winner here.
They loved it.
Onwards to lunch at the river, we meet up with another group out for a walk. 24 YHA bushwalkers. And wouldn't you know it, we actually know half the group. Happy days.

Found on a day walk around the area, thanks for the hide! Rested here for a moment to eat some lunch, slowly but surely the bees came along to hassle me for my food. Also gave some younger walkers some helpful directions.

I agree with the cache notes. I have walked this with muddy several times when the river was dry and crossed it once when it was flowing. Cold! Cold! Cold!. You can see from the debris it can flow very fast.
Yes, it looks steep down to there too.
OK deep breath and here we go forget the pills.
