time to improvise
here the bush bashing began
going off some coordinates and a hunch
and the chattering voices somewhere in the bush up ahead
dodging fallen trees and mineshafts
tripping over branches and roots
making enough noise to scare off all snakes in a kilometre radius
guided by the ever-faithful arrow
we hit the slope
steep and slick with mud and leaves
footing treacherous
and a decent drop-off looming
time to channel the mountain goats, act at home on the rocky slope
eventually we got to the treasure
with a little sweat gained
and a little blood lost
all in good fun

Heh. Sometimes you just pick the right route. While the lead group forged up to what they figured was a more direct route from the previous cache, I took the advice of the cache owner and started on the lower approach. When it came to everyone picking their own way across the slope, I suddenly found myself alone... and got to this one first.
---
Well, I can think of worse ways to make my way to the twentieth anniversary of our State's first Geocaching get-together than continuing the search for Yorick that began during the fifteen year celebration, but not many better ways. Especially in the company of such a fun group of intrepid expedition members.
It's certainly different, being in the middle of a group hike, finding caches.
Every one of these caches is a work of art, mudbrick

Nice to be out exploring this track again and finishing it off. Great to come with a group too as the comradeship keeps you going! Ha ha. Always such great and slightly crazy caches. Thanks so much for putting these out and making me explore such a beautiful area. Signed as event crew!
This was a tricky walk as we were going backwards! Got to the cave in one piece. Great location.
Found with our large expedition group. The log was signed 'The Event Crew'. This is an excellent series with very well themed caches. Thank you mudbrick.

Alas poor Yorick! A tad rough in this section. I knew him NOT and really “there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” But either way I thinks this fun. And, yippeee -no disappointments and all approached with anticipation - the planets aligned and I made the trek from afar, bunked in the girliemobile for the night at Pykes and then headed to the brekky event followed by a tramp in the bush to find these fab Yoricks caches and then to the grand finale ’20 year celebration event’. This whole series has been totally rewarding and impressive. TFTC and the superb planning that has been created for our enjoyment. An odyssey indeed. A fave for sure I thinks.
A day to find out how many Yoricks there really are around this area.
I always thought there was only one, but I seem to be incorrect.
The day started at dawn (not so early this time of the year), and continued with a nice walk and two events.
A lovely day for a good walk, good companions, and excellent caches.
The track disappeared despite the several attempts to find it.
Not sure about the "poorly defined track" the CO talks about.
But it was fine bush bashing and we made it to the scull cave (no phantoms home today!)
Thanks, Robmc.

Our adventures with Yorick actually began back in May 2017, after a Pykes Creek adventure.
As soon as we learnt of today’s plans we were determined not to be alone trekking through the forest in search of more of the cleverly constructed caches containing remnants of the ghoulish nature of the legendary characters.
A somewhat early start from home (5:30am) found us gathering with a number of other intrepid cachers from near and far. Together we trekked over, under and around for about four hours, discovering and logging caches along the way as 'Event Crew' as we made our way through the forest.
What an awesome series!
Thanks mudbrick for this amazing series.

It was an early start to the morning. After a breakfast event it was off to search the bush for Yorick! I joined a crew of explorers making their way on and off the trails to find this series of caches.
It was an awesome view from this location once we all got to GZ.
Thanks mudbrick for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to find.

It was a great day for a hike and after the earlier event a group headed off along the trails around the hills on Yorick's odyssey in search of many bones with lots of interesting caches to find.
At this stage the main group was ahead of the 4 of us that venture further a field on the other side of the river, we found this one and caught up with everyone at the next cache.
It was a great morning and we finished in time for the CCE.

Found with dalerious and a group of cachers which included the illustrious CO of this magnificent series .
I had no idea what to expect when we placed this series of caches on our list to be undertaken between two events, in an area dalerious and I have not been to before.
The morning started early and we nearly missed the boat getting to the first event with just enough time to hastily pack a bag, say our goodbyes to the rest of the group who were not hiking with us.
Once on the walk, we caught up to a gentleman and said g'day . It was the CO himself. It was a lovely surprise to meet you as we didn't know you were there due to us missing the important introductions.
It was a pleasure to meet you, mudbrick .
I have never had the pleasure of doing a series to which each and every container was made with such great attention to detail, and as for the theme, well that was well and truly up my alley . The excitement was palpable, and we were all eager to get to the next cache to see what the container was going to be.
You kept the theme going perfectly, and we were in awe at how you found so many quality props for the hides [xx(].
I cannot say too much about our wander around this beautiful area, signing our name in a series that we will never forget, and will talk about for a long time .
mudbrick, you truly are a master of the game.
Thank you sir for the privilege.

A Phantom fan since childhood, I have always wanted to visit Skull Cave.
I can finally say I have.
I've read my fair share of The Bard.
Shakespeare was compulsory reading back in my highschool days, and with an interest in amateur theatre also, there was a time that I could recite Prince Hamlet's soliloquy in the graveyard verbatim. [^]
What I was clueless about though, before commencing this series of Yorick caches, was the number of favourite points needed in the bank to do it justice.
I was grossly under-prepared.
Catnap777 and I tagged along with the rest of the Event Crew as our morbid mob thrilled at each and every unique cache container we "exhumed" on this excellent hike in good company with the added treat of having the CO walking along with us.
TFTC and series mudbrick. You too truly are a man of infinite jest. [:o)] [^]

Nothing like getting off a main track and really walking through the bush. Pink and white Heather were out, lots of funghis (found some little black ones), lots of moss und sometimes a bit slippery under foot. I think a few of the crew skated, windmilled and recovered. Overall, fantastic day, wonderful series
This one was bit higher up than I was expecting, but as I was already halfway up the cliff I thought I may as well for this one. Really nice part of the gorge right here. Tftc
Steepppppp!! Geowhippet Reggie and I had some issues scrambling up to this one but got there eventually to pay worship to the skull cave. We found an easier way to make the decent, listening to legends about the story of the Greek hero Jason and his band or Argonauts. TFTC
Rock tried to crush my finger as I tried to get this cache container. Great area, nice views.
These were some pretty cool caches and some scenery and adventures that ilukaperi and I weren’t expecting. Some absolutely stunning spots, but watch where you step if you leave the trail!
My more conservative self is telling me I’m crazy. The view is awesome and so is the cache. Thanks for another clever cache on this really steep and kind of enjoyable trail.
Ended up at the river, missed the "climb" turn. Got there in the end, cool location but this is definitely one for the mountain goats! SLTFTC
Another quick find while on our bushwalk around this wonderful area in fantastic walking conditions today. The cache was in hand at 13:25, signed replaced and we were back on the path towards the cars.
TNLNSL noted clue. Thanks mudbrick.

Climbing out of the Gully now, altho the guidebook said go down. That's not where the caches are though!
A very cool concept and fitting here - just ideal! These caches all deserve a fave point.

I had been interested in coming out this way to tackle the Yorrick series for a while but never had the time or excuse to be here. When I saw the nearby 15 years event published and had a free day I locked it into the calendar. After picking up a couple on the way into the event and then spending time chatting with other cachers the time came to set off for the rest of them on foot. In total it took me about 3 hours to do the circuit, a beautiful and at times challenging walk with plenty of interesting containers and hides along the way. A great deal of time and effort has gone into scouting these locations and then creating the hides for everyone to enjoying finding them.
A bit slippery underfoot on the way to this cache but at least there was a small trail. I went past the little track up to skull cave at first but backtracked and carefully picked my way up the hill to GZ while someone was setting up camp down by the river. After propping myself against the rocks I retrieved the cache and added my name to the log. Beautiful views from up here as there have been all the way along this trail, almost a shame to have to head for home but the sun is starting to get a bit lower in the sky and I still needed to make it back to the car. Thanks for the cache mudbrick.

Ok, I went straight to this one from the ruins. Cross country up hill and down dale. Felt I was sliding down the hill. No watch, was it getting late?? Found it! Getting worried but as Mulga was the last one on the edge of known caches I have to go for it.
**Find #929**
From Mulga Bill cache I made a bee line for this cache. Took a wrong turn and descended down to the river then realised that Skull cave had a lot more elevation than I thought. So I had to climb back up to the track and then work my way along to the cave. Another excellent spot for a cache with great views. Thanks **mudbrick**. TFTC.

Back for stage two of this series with whatthefox and tazman. Easy find with good coords. Bit of a scramble down the hill to each the cave. Skull family very happy to see us! CIGC TNLN TFTC.

I had planned a long weekend to do a hiking trip, after some plan changes and bad weather, I decided to hike in the Lerdy. The geo wife was happy for me to be away for a little while, so with the geo vehicle packing with all sorts of things, I was off. The road was muggle free before I hit the camp ground where it was very busy and I had to find a spot to park and stay.
I went up and over from the last cache but as I got close to the track again, it was a very steep decline. The river was flowing and it was a beautiful spot but my mind was on staying safe. The track still wasn't easy to locate and I needed to go up so I picked the best location to do so and it worked well. Cache was located quickly. Stamped and returned as found.
**Thanks for placing this trad cache and wonderful series mudbrick** [^]

Having previously completed a few of this series, Bogonhazy, the geo dogs and I decided to take advantage of the beautiful day and headed to O'Briens Crossing for a bbq and a geo-adventure. What a day it was. Relaxing, exhausting and exciting. I didn't think I had it in me to complete the series. The first part nearly killed my unfit body but after we got going the views, beautiful country side and the adventure made the 2 1/2 hr trek exhilarating. We made a few wrong turns but it just added to the adventure. Cliff descents, rock climbs and even a tree crossing - all unnecessary but so much fun. The dogs, BH and I all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and even though I was cursing your name at a few points, definitely my favourite bush adventure to date. Thanks Muddy for another fantastic series. Love your work xx
Oh man! This one really tested my stamina and fears. But, with BH's help I made the climb down the track. I did make BH climb up to get the cache though, lol.

After doing the previous 8 caches from the road, Leetalicious and I grabbed the two geodogs, Tess and Worf, and decided to make a day of it and head to O'Brien's Crossing to do the rest. We started with the little gas cooker grilling up a steak sandwich at the crossing and a cold drink each, then packed it all up and off we went.
A tough first section got the heart racing before it levels out to a well defined track on relatively level terrain. Each and every cache has it's trademark Muddie signature. You are guaranteed a quick find because they're huge and with accurate coords, and a smile as you unveil the cover to reveal another well themed hilarious take on poor Yorick.
A fabulous walk that involved 2 river crossings, an amazing tunnel, an old hut, and almost too many breathtaking views of the river and surrounds. 2 1/2 hrs of pure exhilaration in a wonderful part of the state so close to where we live.
Adding a fave point to all of these, really appreciate the thought and effort you put into all your caches Graeme. These are the types of caches that make you fall in love with our game.
Cheers Phil
We gingerly made our way down to the river here. A lot of hazards if you're not careful. Then LL pointed back up the slope to where GZ was pointing. Noooooooo!!!
Carefully made my way back up and across to make the find, and from there was able to traverse safely down and across to the river

When I got the call out from DAB asking if I wanted to join him for a hike in Lerderderg I quickly responded with a massive Hell Yea.
We set a date and made the trip out to tackle this awesome series, this has to be one of the most creative series know to man with every hide so unique and well fitting to the name.
The sun was shinning and not a cloud in the sky making for an amazing day for a hike.
After stopping and exploring the old mines we made our way to the cache and what a well suited cache for the area, we really loved it.
Thanks mudbrick for the cache and the area.

AAhh Lerderderg... how I missed thee... It has been way too long since I have hiked here and today I succumbed to the call of the cache !! I had driven and claimed the first 8, but I was salivating to stretch the legs and finish this series. It was a bit of a change today, as I usually hike solo. Today I had the pleasure of hiking with Chris from The_Tritonz. With the GPS loaded and the sun shining we set off on our journey into the unknown.
You weren't wrong about the track here. With some recent rain and a clay type soil, it would be very easy to slip here. After a few slips and trips, we finally made it to the cave. Clue collected and on to the next. TFTC mudbrick

I was out for my monthly caching trip with Biggles Bear, this time aiming for the Altona and Yorick's Odyssey series. We liked the variety of the hides and enjoyed the walk around the circuit.

On this fine windy May morning I drove in from Gisborne to O'Brien's Crossing, planning to do 14 caches in the walking series first whilst I was fresh. In the end I did 15 as I detoured to picked up one of the puzzles on the way back. All in all I took 2 hrs and 15 mins for these 15 which will give others some idea of the time needed.
I followed the track around above the river from the last cache but mistakenly dropped too early down a steep chute to the river, not a good thing to do as I was now way too low and had to regain my height. Much careful going until I reached your airy little perch with its array of amusing bits and pieces.
A favourite for the dramatic location
Thanks Mudbrick

Couldn't see the Phantom anywhere and luckily members of the deadly Bandar tribe, the Phantom's close friends, who usually guard the cave entrance with their instantly deadly poisoned arrows, were nowhere to be found.
Plundered the cave and signed the log.

Found on a day walk around the area, thanks for the hide! Came at this from the river and boy was it an uphill battle. Got the sweats going and I was glad to see the cache spot was obvious.
Took note of the mines as I passed. Nice cave but your name was mud again as I balanced next to it.
The usual sense of humour coming through again. I know it only gets better from here out.

A wonderful day of caching - 5 hours in the Lerderderg, finding 24 new Mudbrick caches .
After initially missing the intended track we ended up on a treacherous path to nowhere. A quick backtrack to the noted turn/climb WP, and I then soon nutted out where the skull cave was.
Thanks for the entertaining series, Mudbrick.
