No Luck for as only Left in the area

15-May-21
Spent a long time looking for this one and got some help from a friend who had previously found it but had no luck with this one

19-Apr-21
Spent a good 40 minutes looking for this but couldn’t find. I feel like we are missing something. A hint would be nice.

Couldn’t find it with Vincent

Managed to keep my footwear dry when heading to this along the foreshore. Found the cards within which are a remainder of the former Multi? T F T C fmz

Got a busy Saturday planned, as usual, but some different stuff on. I have a meet up with friends in Galbraith's Mount Eden just after lunch today and hope to have a good catch up, talk about football and enjoy a couple of pints. Nothing else this morning except make sure I'm there ready for 1.30 PM so might as well head out and make a few finds at Point Chevalier first then, seems like a plan. All was good and managed 14 caches before the catch up, and another bonus/random one after.

We came here at low tide today and were able to reach GZ without getting our feet wet. Quickly spotted at GZ, I love these trees, so resilient and able to hang on to pretty much anything. TFTC Smile

Shoes off at mid-tide for me, ferried the boys to the spot. Beautiful outlook. T4TC

Nice walk along beach to this.
Safely tucked away here.

Muggle couple right in the zone. Will have to come back another day. No biggie. Lovely spot!

15-Dec-19
Last cache today - too the walk along the path which had us overshooting but then walked back a short way to the hide location and unusually found it in the first place that I looked. Had to wait for a family to clear GZ but no worries. Decent sized cache for the location too but nothing with me to drop today.

Nice location and as the tide was very low, got to enjoy the walk and not get too muddy feet.

Thanks for the cache, all good here.

Nice find, would be fun for someone kayaking along the area

Nice and easy, only at low tide though!

Nice quick find this morning in the gorgeous sunshine. Great to get this one finally as its been a pain in the proverbial for years...never managed to get round this way with a favorable tide...cheers V

28-Sep-19
It was quite something to get there but it’s worth it. Thanks for the cache.

18-Aug-19
Last time I was along here it was late on New Year's Eve and high tide, we crashed down off the path and dropped off the bank into the water. Today was during daylight with low tide so much easier, especially when we found the steps at the end of the path. Cunning hide. TFTC

15-Jun-19
Last find for Miss Three and me on our afternoon around Eric Armishaw Park. We made our way along the track to the GZ... almost, then backtracked and made our way there a different way. Finally at the right spot, we quickly find the right hidey hole. Thanks!

Beautiful place. Great hiding spot. Tftc

For my personal challenge of working towards getting my calendar on GC.COM to be at least the same shade of green or darker I need to sign off at least 12 caches today. I won't grumble if I find one or two moreBig GrinRed Face. It was time to search the Pt Chev. and Westmere areas.

I can't remember if I had this one in its previous life but I have it in this one.

Cheers for the cache.

We made our way around to this one and it was a good adventure - TFTC

19-Apr-19
Overestimated where it was then found it right in our faces Made a little swap too TFTC!

07-Apr-19
Took some patience........

I have been a little bit on the wrong track retrieving this cache, so it took me a lot longer than it should have. It's probably best to park at the parking site of Eric Armishaw Reserve and walk the coastal walkway from there (From the retirement village the walkways seem to be private) AT LOW TIDE. When I approached GZ, the cache immediately caught my eye. So I was at least a little bit rewarded for my devious route. Nice big cache. TFTC

10-Mar-19
Well hidden! Nice spot.

03-Mar-19
Had an unexpected day without the mini cachers so decided to take a walk around Western Springs and the surrounding area with NZIceman and the geo dog to find some caches.

This one took a little longer to get to then it should have....we first visited the retirement village, then we got close but 15m away was still too far....aha thats where we need to be....short walk later and thankfully it was a quick find as there were so many places it could have been.

Thanks for the cache.

17-Feb-19
Number four for James - dad looked right at and missed it completely

09-Feb-19
This one took a bit of walking and dodging. Be careful of the slippery bits if the tide is out! A very nice place to hide a cache. Took a lucky glimpse to spot it. Thanks!

09-Feb-19
Hm so we did a little tiki tour of Selwyn Village (I'm assuming it's a retirement complex?) as I thought we were able to get to the cache from one of the roads inside... haha, my bad! Anyway, once we worked out how to get to GZ, thankfully it was low tide, it didn't take too long for us to realise that the coordinates were a little bit off and make the find. Bit of a secluded beach - we walked past a couple on the way and probably disrupted their date with our loud crunching footsteps (on all the shells), oops! All good here. Tftc Smile

05-Jan-19
Nice tricky one today but tftc

Awesome find and a great way to finish off with our last find for the day. The tide was low and we went right to where the GC was at. TFTC!

08-Nov-18
Out and about finding a few more caches in my spare time today. This one took a wee while to find. My GPS had me out on a limb so to speak about 10m from where I eventually found the cache. TFTC, Biggles.

10-Oct-18
I am taking the scenic route home this afternoon, making the most of the fine weather to add some finds to the tally. After finding "right or wrong road" north of here I decided to use the beach access there as my trail head for a walk down the beach. Sure, there are closer access points but this worked out find; a 800m and change return trip. Having found the multi version of this hide I had a good idea as to where to look and soon came up with the goods. I checked the log and sure enough I had signed it back in 2012. Signed again for the trad version then it was time to retrace my steps. Cheers for the new cache listing!

16-Sep-18
Took awhile but found it !! Thanks

11-Aug-18
Nice quick find for this one in such a good spot to place a cache. All is in order here with the cache in great shape

11-Aug-18
Low tide made for an easy retrieval on this one with Beconaze. TFTC Smile

Out for a bike ride to knock off my outstanding Pt Chev caches, as I work my way towards my last Hidden Creature. After the Right or Wrong Road Cache, I had noted that the tide had only just turned, so headed off to Pt Chev to do the Multi there, and have a bite of lunch, before having a crack at this on the way home. Turns out it was a very good call. The cache write up seemed to be only one line, but at bottom had the statement "Description contains table formatting which may need to be viewed at geocaching.com to be seen correctly. So I assumed I didn't have access to the cache write up, though as it turns out I did.

I knew that there would be no public access via Selwyn Village, so I had brought out the mountain bike, and headed in from Eric Armshaw Reserve as I knew there was a coastal walkway from there. Cycled to within 20m of the cache and realised I'd come the wrong way. Wasn't sure if there was beach access further on, and the bush bash down looked a little gnarly, so I retraced my route to the beach access I'd already passed. It was now that I thanked my past self for not trying this earlier when the tide was further in. As I was riding to GZ across the mudstone I remembered a previous cache in a similar location. Got off the bike, reached in and grabbed the cache. Sure enough, our name was in the log. We had done this as its first incarnation.

Continued on and was surprised when the steps took me not to another road access, but merely to the walkway where I was earlier. Oh well, it was a nice ride along the path, so I did it a third time. TFTC.

09-Jun-18
Lovely sunny afternoon so came out this way to collect some more caches. The tide is almost all the way in, so just took my shoes off and left them on the beach while I made my way around to the GZ. The sea is almost flat calm today, with a small number of people out on kayaks and paddle boards. Nice easy find at GZ, TFTC

26-Feb-18
Second one for today. Really wanted to knock this one out as I'm in the area semi regularly but despite my best efforts I cannot control the tides...yet.
So with the moon doing its thing I did mine. Found it in a couple of minutes then relaxed for a moment in the plastic chairs someone had left on the beach. Snazzy

19-Jan-18
Tftf!

19-Jan-18
Also, the kingfisher is still there, seemed happy though!

09-Jan-18
We found the entrance to the Eric Armishaw Coastal Walkway, then followed the coast and the GPS to GZ. The arrow turned and I looked down the slope and thought to myself there has to be an easier way, and there was. I followed the path to its end, which zig zag its way to the water. Then a short walk along the beach to GZ.

Then the fun started. Not sure how long it took to find, but was not straight forward. I found myself climbing too high, then concentrated on the lower levels. With the history of king tide and storms was a bit worried the cache might have been taken away. So more time was spent scrolling thru previous logs, and thinking about the terrain level a bit more, when I checked another area, and there it was Big Grin

A beautiful spot to hide the cache, and the tide was out, so dry feet today!

30-Dec-17
Kingfisher still here when we arrived & signed, he/she was not happy we were there ! Thanks

27-Dec-17
Dive bombed by a kingfisher (probably a nest near by), but survived to find the cache and pick up a travel bug

#2339 Having spent a few days in Auckland, this area looked interesting so I found a couple of caches here. The GPS was spot on. Cache was nestled inside so I slide it along and out. Signed and replaced as found. Friday I head back home. TFTC.

Came at the wrong part of the tidal cycle it would seem. That kind of epitomised by caching luck today.

Remembered this one when it was a multi. Nice day to be on the foreshore. +TB

15-Nov-17
Good morning funkymunkyzone. After having some recent success at finding other caches nearby quite quickly, and as I only had a limited amount of time over and early lunch break to find one in order to keep my daily caching streak alive, I decided to focus on trying to find this one. So after finally locating a path down to the beach, and as I started making my way to GZ, it dawned on me that I had unintentionally timed it perfectly with the tide being low. Anyway, once I made it to GZ, it took me about five minutes of thinking logically before locating the cache. The cache is in good condition. So I signed the log and put it nicely back in its spot for the next finder. And just in time too... I had just put it back when a muggle couple strolling along the low water mark just came into view. So thank you funkymunkyzone for taking the time to set up not just this cache but all of your caches. I really appreciate your efforts in doing so. I also took a photo that I will share with this log in the next day or so. Today is day number 453 in my current caching streak. TFTC! Smile

I guess I am not as good as the others since I searched the wrong side first before swinging around to the correct side. TFTC.

26-Jun-17
I'd previously found that I couldn't reach this one from above, and each time I'd tried to come from below, it was hightide. Finally made it today! Parked at Raymond Reserve so I could grab the new cache there too, and made my way along the beach/mud to GZ. Gumboots were essential. Nice cozy spot for the cache in the second place that I looked (after I slipped at the first place). TFTC Smile

25-Jun-17
Out in the area getting a few caches and realisied that the tide was low. Got near GZ and realised we had to walk further and then double back. Quite quickly had the cache in hand. But then had to beat a hasty retreat back to the car as rain was threatening. Got to the car just as the heavens opened. So that was us for the day and headed for home.

30-Apr-17
out using the caches as a reason to take a stroll in the area this morning.. been meaning to for a while so here we are.. once we had figured out stepping in the low tide puddles was the safest way across the killer rocks.. ( luckly we came in water proof shoes;-) it was on to GZ.. little bit of challenge working out where GZ was as the birds seemed to be circling further out to see for us, particularly since there were some high potential locations closer in land... so eventually resorted to the smart phone ( given we had noticed what looked like a link text on the gps) to see if there was some better information hidden in the text... just at that moment we were muggled by another cacher ( that's a first) who was able to say something slightly helpful.... like " i know this guy.. its gonna be around this area ( indicating) - just depends on how dangerous he is going to be.... and with that i happened to turn around and look right at the cache just above my eye level.. ( thanks co for sending extra "guidence" to GZ right at that moment, all though that was forturnatly not a dangerous version - well other than the walk out there..

Decided to stay out some longer today after the CITO to collect more smiles. Approached GZ finding other geocachers giving this one a go. Discussed what would be the most likely place for the hide and our first go was gold. TFTC

29-Apr-17
I was expecting a bit of a search for this cache but spotted it straight away as I approached GZ. Lucky me as everything is very slippery today so didnt want to scramble around too much. Glad I approached from the shoreline.

27-Apr-17
I have wanted to do this cache for so long and finally the tide was in my favour when I was in the area. Always meant to do it when it was a multi but just never got there, then it was archived so was happy to see it turned into a trad. A little slippery on the way and was happy to make an immediate find once at GZ. Relieved to finally turn this cache into a smiley. Thanks

23-Apr-17
Out & about with Pazzabella & our collection of geodogs. Initially we thought we wouldn't be able to access this one, but the tide was out...and our luck was in...and we found the nicely hidden cache after a short search. Tftc Smile

I was glad to have Berties eyes looking out for this one, she made much shorter work of it than I would have. Tftc

20-Apr-17
Thanks TeamBMMR. Here for world masters games next week. Can't afford an injury. Those rocks are mighty slippery. About to give up when I read the logs and decided I was in the right place. One more look and there it was!

18-Feb-17
Had vague memories finding this cache when it was a multi but couldnt remember where it was. So while AV1 searched, AV2 read some logs. AV2 then took two steps & puts her hand on it in the very first place she tried. Find of the day as there were so many hiding places! TFTC Big Grin

02-Feb-17
Blocked by a hightide, I took the highroad and ventured down hill from there, but couldn't find it. Will have to return at low tide.

02-Jan-17
Nice rainy windy day to be out hunting. Timing was good between the rain, but took a wrong turn and wound up somewhere else. Once I realized the difference of where I was, and where I had to be,I soon arrived at GZ. So many places to look and poke your hand into. After 15 minutes I finally spotted something. Great hide, TFTC

20-Nov-16
We enjoyed a very pleasant stroll along the beach this evening. On arriving at GZ the cache was found after a brief search. We noticed our names already in the logbook from when this cache was The Outpost. We had greatly enjoyed doing the series of caches that it had been part of. It seems a shame that those sorts of interesting caches are not done frequently enough to keep going. Anyway, thanks for bringing us back here.

31-Oct-16
A beautiful stroll to the GZ. this hide kinda reminded me of another series, which has gifted me with lot of memories... Whatever.. Found this one after bit of a search, it was a bit slippery for me, but not too bad. tftc Chris.

29-Oct-16
It was such a nice day I needed to get out and enjoy it, decided to go for a walk on the beach and wrangle up some caches that have popped up in Point Chev. It was a bit slippy at GZ but managed to stay on my feet and find the cache.

I vaguely remember doing the outpost, but couldn't remeber where the final was hidden, so a bit of a search before it was located. Very strong winds here today coming straight off the water, at least the kite sailors were having fun.

By luck it was low tide when we approached from St Michaels. Enjoyed the walk along the foreshore. Kiwiscot made the quick find allowing more time to play as we returned to our chariot. TFTC

19-Jun-16
Perfect timing for low tide so we came here from Grandma's. A bit slippery and lots of hidey holes meant it took a wee bit of searching to make the find. The torch helped look in some of the darker areas but didn't need it in the end. TFTC

11-Jun-16
Walked up from Walker Rd to get this one, but the tide was in, and I didn't want to wade around from the beach. Came back an hour and a half later to find that even the beach had gone. Low tide only for this one.

Saw this one when it came out! Was going to attempt FTF but in the end, I was busy logging up caches and was quite settled in! So out of curiosity I came here today to see what I missed. It just happened to be low tide when I approached from supernanny's recommended route. But you gotta watch that sandstone in jandals, it's a potential killer! Made my way to GZ and even though co-ords seemed to push me away from the bank, I suspected otherwise. Sure enough cache was found, quite discreet too it was! Good one FMZ, nice to see you're still in the game!

Yay....didn't ecpect to have any time to cache today....but when I had a call to come to work a bit later I was here in a flash ...as on the way kind of !....
Approached from St Michaels Ave ....quickest and closest route ! Took me back to my youth...my Granparents lived here and would have a dip in the sea water at the bottom of the stairs there !
Not really my sort of swimming beach !!!
Thanks fmz .

Had a revisit today. We were the last to sign in the previous life. Still took a careful search. Tftc

Having failed to find 'The Outpost' because WP2 was missing, I was pleased to see it reincarnate as a traditional. After a nice walk to GZ on a lovely autumn day it was a nice quick find for me in the second place I looked. TFTC

When this notification popped up, I debated going out to grab it. We were planning to go to a movie, but I figured I had enough time. So I headed out with my daughter and made the drive down to the cache. After a missed start getting to the beach, we worked it out, and on arriving at GZ, found TeamBMMR on site already looking through the original The Outpost cache. We debated whether this was the actual, but decided to sign off on it anyway (my second time since I found it a few years back). Turns out this was the right call. Nice to meet you B from TeamBMMR!! Was mooching at home when notifications started coming in thick and fast but nothing in my magical ~5km zone of FTF hunting until this one! Shoes on, pen, gps, phone & our Fallout Guy FTF TB and I was off. Managed to tie my shoelaces & program the gps (my cell gps sucks) at the several red light stops on the way. Parking nearby and hurrying along the path towards GZ I miscalculated its position and took the high road, instead of the low road, and had to back track top a point where I could bush back down a level. Bursting out of the bush I caught a glimpse of a couple of ladies and their dogs walking the beach towards towards me... fellow FTF hunters?! Not while I'm around to claim it they're not!

I hurried a little too quickly on the slippery sandstone and nearly went head over heels, luckily managing to keep my feet. At GZ I had just discovered the cache when the ladies & their dogs caught up to me, doh! Luckily, they said good afternoon and kept walking, phew.

Opening the cache I saw a logbook in a bag, some laminated cards that said "Do Not Remove" with some cryptic things on them, and a few items of swag. Removing the logbook I was confused to see signatures dating back to 2009! Eh! That's not the nice clean log book I was expecting!

As I was contemplating this, Defiant980 & family arrived. He'd found this cache back in 2012 when it was a Multi (his signature was still in the log!) We discussed it, had a further look then he messaged the CO to confirm we had the right cache. Confirmation came after we'd updated the log with the new name of the cache on a blank page and signed our names.

Nice to meet you Defiant980 & family, thanks FMZ for the fun on a lovely Autumn afternoon Big Grin
