I quite enjoyed my visit to Barcaldine and learning of the historical politics that occurred here. It was interesting to think about the location where the first tents were pitched as part of the original shearer's strike. I followed the geocache title's advice and read the description to learn of the geocache's final location 25 m away at S 23 33.126' E 145 16.930'. [Laighside Legends](https://coord.info/PR3BCW0) previously attempted this cache a few days ago and mentioned that he couldn't find it, so I had a go myself, and sure enough, no cache. Consequently, with the previous DNFs, it suggested that the cache was missing, so I replaced the cache on behalf of the CO team. Thanks [RoddyC](https://coord.info/PRC80AY) for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance. ----------This 1.5 week trip, the purpose was the Queensland Outback Geocaching Muster (QOGM) in Longreach, with its aim to encourage tourism and support in rural towns. Departing from Brisbane on Friday 15/09/2023, I travelled solo taking the northern route through Gayndah, Emerald and Jericho on my way to the event, and then returned through Blackall, Morven, St George, Goondiwindi, and Toowoomba arriving back on Monday 25/09/2023.My Longreach highlights included the two QOGM muster/rally days visiting Muttaburra and Isisford; the Qantas Founders Museum; Stockmans Hall of Fame; Silver Tails Rail Sunset Tour; and the general historical town vibe. Other highlights to/from Longreach included climbing Mt Scoria; Barcaldine's Tree of Knowledge and kayaking in the water park; Blackall woolshed scour; and the smaller intriguing and historical towns that I passed through.During my travel days when I was time-poor, I targeted geocaches that were older in age, high D-T, puzzles/challenges, and rare cache types. In addition, I added 7-8 visited LGAs to my statistics. The scenery was memorable with picturesque sunsets, and a diversity of flora and fauna. There were plenty of kangaroos and wallabies, emus, goannas/lizards, brolgas, hawks, and alas wild hogs, and goats.Today, with Longreach QOGM finishing up, it was time to commence my two-day drive home. After making an early departure from Longreach following the [QOGM 2023 CITO](https://coord.info/GCAAHTW) event, I passed through Barcaldine, Blackall, Tambo, Augathella, and then finished up in Morven where the [Morven Major Munch](https://coord.info/GCAE0HW) dinner event was held. I made sure to see the historical sights like the woolshed scour, murals and drilling setup in Blackall, before playing through the Wherigos and finding puzzles and challenge trail. I extended my day after sunset, and completed the Murweh Triangle (MT) geoart puzzles from Augathella to Morven. It was a fairly full day in warm conditions, but the geocaches placed from previous QOGMs were enjoyable, and it was good to add Blackalls LGA to my statistics.Adventure Labs completed: [The History of Tambo](https://labs.geocaching.com/goto/0c74ee1c-bb7e-46cc-b899-55918a0094d4); and [Augathella Art](https://labs.geocaching.com/goto/a28da373-e575-4d0c-b1f2-14a832b17597).

Day 22. A last minute plan had been hatched to make my by way to QOGM. Very little planning had been done but a very rough outline was in place and it was going to be a day by day trip.We sadly said goodbye to our fellow team mates The_Tritonz after celebrating Ms_Tritonz birthday, and I set off for a day caching with posums in Barcaldine. When is a trad not a trad? When it is not at the posted coordinates. Alas we found this one where indicated in the description a short distance away. Thanks RoddyC for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to enjoy.----------------------------------------------------------Are you planning a trip to Victoria? Check out some of these caches on the nominees list for the 2022 Victorian Cache of the Year Awards. The shortlist is available [here](https://coord.info/BMC8QYR)

QOGM ️

17-Sep-23
Well my trip up to QOGM has officially started and I’m taking the very indirect route up to outback QLD to get there.
So after cruising up the Hume to Sydney then the M1 and A1 up to Byron Bay with a few other roads in between as I have been cris crossing a bit so it is time to start heading west.
I have never been up this way before so it will be interesting to see what towns I come across in my travels.
So after spending a great night in Morven it was now time to head North to Barcaldine to hopefully make one of the first unofficial QOGM events before QOGM officially starts.
I left nice and early as I had a few caches earmarked to find on the way up.
A couple more before I head to my first event for the week long festivities of QOGM 2023.
A very interesting time back then and the tree of knowledge plays a very important part.
I can see why the cache isn’t in the middle of the road.

Thanks youngoldella, temingi and RoddyC TFTC.

Tftc guys, no trouble with this one

15-Sep-23
On our holiday trip, we will be stopping in many different towns before making our way to Longreach for QOGM 2023. We will be taking in the sights and sounds of each town, exploring the local culture, and trying out the regional cuisine. We are looking forward to a fun and exciting journey! ??

Here's one to find today. Thank you for placing the cache ??  RoddyC.

On the way to QOGM at Longreach.

Accompany with deaf friends. I am appreciative of them because they are young and have more energy and good equipment. I just stood and watched. SmileSmile
Thank you for organising the cache and hunt.
Sorry about copying and pasting

No tents pitched today. Outnabout for some solo caching while camping in town overnight. We’re taking the roundabout route to QOGM 2023 at Longreach. It’s always a great day for caching.
TFTC RoddyC

For anyone making Geo plans, do yourself a favour and visit Australia’s only current Geotour at Ballarat while it lasts: https://www.geocaching.com/play/geotours/ballarat-victoria

And for anyone that can travel to Longreach, Queensland, late September 2023, Google “QOGM” which is the Queensland Outback Geocaching Muster. You’ll have at least 8 or 9 days of pure geocaching fun with around 200 like minded people attending a mix of events and access to over 200 geocaches placed by the QOGM team. It’s not a Mega, it’s better.

Today's leg of out trip Longreach to Blackall. Arrived at the caravan park in Blackall to find that the free wifi is only for Telstra customers... so we are now catching up on around 60 logs!
Had a great time caching in Longreach. Boot went to the QANTAS museum, Bee completed more puzzles!

Searched for as part of our 'north for warmer weather' trip from North East Victoria to Central Queensland, via Curtis Island! We have enjoyed the great variety of caches along the way. Thank you to all the COs who maintain the caches along the way.

We had planned a road trip to Queensland to visit family in 2021, but our travel plans were stalled due to border closures during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that the world was trying to get back to a semi normal state, we decided to have another go at getting away from the cold and head up north for some sunshine and warmth.

Day 7 with a change of direction for our trip due to road closures so instead for Tambo to Emerald we had to detour via Blackall and Barcaldine updated the GPS’s to collect caches along the way along with heaps of grey nomads towing caravans even a group of old vintage cars and motorbikes along the roads to contend with.

This was our last find for the day after having dinner at our hotel close by, a little wander to walk of dinner and pick up sweets at the servo across the road.

All caches were found along our journey that we attempted unless otherwise mentioned.
Thanks to all cache hiders for keeping this hobby alive and breaking up a long drive.

Found it with pippahiccup on a western run up to Mt Garnett. But rain and road closures hampering us. Can only get cashes that we aren't in a foot of water. But getting to explore at least. What an interesting town.

26-Apr-22
On our way north for a family event in Mt Garnet. However, Barcaldine had 6 inches of rain in 24 hours and we are spending today filling in time trying to decide whether to backtrack or wait for the roads to reopen to move onwards.
We were ready to give up, but finally found it. Thankfully there were no muggles around due to the road closure. We parked in the nearby park and could look at our leisure. Thanks for the story of the coordinates and for the cache!

23-Apr-22
Tftc after looking for awhile. Found it at the last place I should have looked first.

It’s Mega time once again!! Woo hoo!! Love these epic road trips. This time the plan is Canberra to Narromine to Cunnamulla to Blackall, a detour via Winton and then swinging back to Charters Towers before the main event in Townsville. Will see if the April rains and flooding detour us! Thanks to everyone who placed and maintained all these caches that enabled us to have a wonderful holiday! Thanks for the cache.
