On holiday for 2 weeks in caravan, stopped at Geraldine for couple nights and thought we would go find some caches. TFTC
Parked at the road bridge and cached/cycled until it was time to back to Geraldine for a pre-dinner drink.
Great ride along this part the trail! Nice and sunny albeit a bit muggy. I found all along this sections, although I was certainly overthinking it at times... The containers could do with some maintenance as most logs were quite damp or even too damp to write on. Good fun, I look forward to returning for another section at some point. TFTC!!The plums were soooo yummy!!!South Australia is the place be for GCA1DNA - MEGA - February 29th, 2024 in Adelaide! Hope to see you at The Great Leap Forward!
Back on the job today. Tidied up a few nearby and got a plan for another stack today, heading south along the stock bank from grumpies.
We parked the cars outside the Route 79 Motor Camp and set up the bikes. We headed across the main road to the side road and onto the stock bank. This part of the stock bank is much easier to bike along than the last part we did at river stroll 1 - 4. M found the cache with no problems. I had a ladybird land on me. Ladybugs must be hatching at the moment.
Too easy - saw it from the track. Have hidden better. Muggles around. Great track for a bike ride with the dogs. Tftc
Found with NZDi. This morning we walked the Orari River Cycle Track from the bridge to Taylor Road. We logged all our finds as well as our DNFs. The DNFs may not mean they are missing, just that we did not find them. This cache was our first find of the day and can't have been that inspiring because I can't recall anything about it, but according to my notes we did find it, so here's the log.
It is Easter weekend and it is time to cross off one of the things on our bucket list, which is to visit the Peel Forest area. We headed south from Blenheim on Thursday and overnighted in Rangiora in order to break up the trip. That was an uninspiring place to cache with a miserable strike rate. We then travelled to the Peel Forest DOC camp on Friday and did the Kahikatea Walk and Fern Tracks. Saturday's mission was to walk the Orari River Cycle Track from Burdon Road to the Orari River Bridge and today we are completing the track from the bridge to Taylor Road, having done from the other end to Taylor Road last October while visiting Geraldine.
Our logs are in full where space allows, but when an abridged version is required we shorten it to KM + ND for Kiwimykl and NZDi.

A nice evening walk sussing out the start of tomorrow's bike ride and getting a couple of caches
Thanks for your amazing cache. I really appreciate the time you took to set up and maintain your caches.
Found with Fisha1288
Cheers, Cympull.

Morning bike ride along the riverside MTB trails. Caches were found without major problems. Focus was on biking rather than on cached so only picked some random ones. Tftc. Greetings from Finland.
After a fair bit of rain last night, I wasn't sure if I was going to resume this trail today, but the forecast said there'd be sunshine after 10 am so off i went.
The grass was pretty wet, but no problems finding the cache.
Thanks for putting it here

One more of the series signed off as I passed through today. Plenty more to go! TFTC # 18,042
Yes found on ground ..a nice new log..signed and replaced as per hint well sorta. More laying between than hanging..thanks for your efforts BCD
After encountering the stream crossing going the other way we decided to turn back and find a few caches on tge other side of the road. This was the first and found on tge ground rolling away. Wedged it a little higher. Thanks for the cache BCD
Staying at Grumpys with Busypaws and went for a short walk. Cache was a quick find and cache was on the ground
*Another good find going from cache to cache with woolwood9.*

Gosh you'd think we had done enough today, just a few more along here, thank goodness we brought our bikes - TFTC
Heading part-way back to Christchurch today from Lake Tekapo and stopped for a couple of hours’ stroll along this track. I walked at least 2.5 kms before turning around and turning back, finding 10 caches all up and bombing out on one. Located this one reasonably quickly. The notes I made at the time say “not hanging” (despite the hint). #3490. TFTC.
Back in town to grab the other side of the river. Bagged this one first as was missing.
Really needs a Ziploc as going mouldy.

Out for a morning ride and hopefully finish off this river track power trail. We have done bits and pieces over the last week and have enjoyed greatly. Our thanks especially to the CO who has done a excellent job and seems to be right on top of any maintenance issues.
Sorry about the cut and paste but all were easily found and will be noted if otherwise

Find #29. No sign of any sort of a container here, simply the lid and, amazingly, dry log paper. We put it at the base of the tree under the lid but unfortunately I didn’t have any spare containers with me. What a fantastic walk we had this Christmas day. Although there have been several caches we’ve not found, I'm most impressed by the amount of work you’ve put into laying out all these caches. We’ve enjoyed the four river crossings, the fourth one across the Orari river being the most exciting one! Have another fave.
I think another crittur must have smelled the olives that had been in the container and ran of with the base! But the log sheet is still dry - for now! TFTC
#16716. Never heard of a "stockbank" before . Nonetheless, the cache was easy to find. Not sure what had been gnawing at it (rats perhaps). TFTC.
Found with StreetWalkerNZ on our weekend trip to Geraldine. We had been eyeing up these bike trail caches for a while and finally we have brought our bikes with us. The weather was perfect (maybe a little too hot at times) and we biked the Vance Rd to the Orari Bridge section of the trail. A few DNFs, and a few not looked for, but overall a successful day.
Happy to see the bridge as my legs and bum were protesting from the cycling today. SW hopped down the bank to look for this one and found a gnawed container. Despite that, the log book was in OK condition. Now time for him to head back for the car while I rested my aching body. Thanks for all the caches today, BCD. TFTC.

Today's adventure on the G.M.B.T. is the section is from Bennet Rd east to where I left off yesterday and then up to the Orari River Bridge.
On my way down from the Orari Bridge.
Cheers for the cache.

7937. Second day of our three day recreational trip to Geraldine. Fine weather today after yesterday's rain. This was cache number eleven of twelve finds today. An easy find after a short walk from our parking spot. Thanks for the cache. Rodney and Iris.
Was initially planning a trip to Geraldine tomorrow (Sunday) to bike the river trails but forecast rain made me come today (Saturday). Frosty morning but a lovely sunny day. Bit late leaving home but all good. Will see how many I can find!
Moved the car to near this cache. The start of the 3rd section to bike. A fun day. CHeers.

So, this was day two of my MTB geotrailing. I didn't get as far downstream as was planned as the farmer had closed off access to the stopbank for harvesting. Once again see the log for Hangmans Row for full details. The logbook was damp.

Couldn't go by without a retry, with the correct co ords this time. An easy find and a cache container we know well. This was our second last today. Thanks BCD.
Great day out caching in the area, lot of neat caches, and interesting spots, needed 43 more caches to hit the 10000 finds mark think I got 62 for the day trip. Many Thanks Bitsprayer.
Phase two of the cycle leg of the caching trip to South Canterbury. Parked at the end of Bennett Rd, up the east bank to the big bridge and back now the west bank. Lovely day and really nice place to spend it - lots of cool caches too. Thanks.
In Geraldine ca(t)ching up with BCD. A beautiful day to cycle part of the G.M.B.T with the added bonus of the CO joining me
Another quick find before BCD departs again to move the car further down the track. TFTC

Day 9 - of our (The Seagnoid, Toby, Zara, & myself) epic adventure leaving Oamaru for Geraldine and the cycle trail today.
We drop Toby off at SH1 , and park Zara at Main North Road gravel pit. Now its back on Jack and Jill and pedal power.
This is the first on our treck along this pathway. Snagged and tagged. Cheers

At last, Taybeedragon and I are on our way home after a week geofesting in Oamaru. Well, sort of on our way home. Looks like an awesome cycle ride to do first! Turning out to be a really nice day, so after dropping Zara off at the southern end of the run, first order of business is sunscreen, and by the time we had cycled to the first cache I already had sunscreen in my eyes. Arrrgh!
first cache on the rest of the cycle way I started yesterday and first of my full days caching on my way south
Made it to the bridge with only one DNF. Now decision time; do I carry on in this wonderful trail or double back?! Up from Mosgiel on a caching binge in Geraldine. Nice easy find. Beautiful weather and a beautiful spot. TFTC
Well if I am going to use old coordinates it's no wonder I can't find it!!! There we were all bouncy and fresh and started with a DNF. Can't find anyone else to blame either. Sigh!!! In the watch list and will return.

27 August 2017 16:02. No rock left unturned in hunting today, much to the disgust of the skinks and woodlice. The cache container has been broken open and the woodlice have been enjoying digesting what the logbook has to say. TFTC BrownscacheDiversBCD
Having stayed in Geraldine overnight. (Geraldine Motels and village inn excellent for accommodation and food). we took the dog for a bike ride along the MTB tracks. Nice riding and good caches, though some logs were a bit wet. (sorry, we've lost the bit of paper which recorded which needed maintenance). all went well till Jo and Beck (the dog) mislaid Joe, or vice versa on the loop. Luckily we both eventually arrived back at the car. Many thanks, we'll be back for more on our way south.
found on the return trip I had to give my gps the chance to settle down then Straight on to it 5/5 TFTC MR BCD
Missed out on the ftf last year, couldn't see it anywhere. Today I could see it from the track. Oh well thems the breaks. Cheeers.
A leave pass from Ms KR and Ms KM. Where do we go? Packed up bikes and bike >40k on the GMBT. Slightly stuffed at the end, but found most that we looked for, and a had a great day.
Thanks to the CO's for the hides. Cheers.

The leave passes for Karma Reprint and myself matched up, so onto our bikes to attempt to clean up the series in one day. 42km and 12ish hours later it's mostly done. Second leg is down from the bridge, nice track! Cheers
A quick easy find on a longer ride around the middle section of G.M.B.T. The cache is of course micro, not small. TFTC
We just picked off a few on this trail as we were a bit short of time, but we will be back because Mrs S.t. was rather taken by the track and wants to do the whole thing.
Cheers and thanks,
S.t.

Great day for a bike ride and a new track and a good Number of finds . Perfect. TFTC
Container is broken
Did a bike ride whilst camping at Grumpy's. Supposed to be an easy day but ended up 55km Included all of the Geraldine MB Trail and a trip to Orari Gorge. Could have picked up many more as we passed more than we stopped at. Would be nice to complete the GMBT sometime. TFTC

5. day of our 3 month bicycle tour of NZ, and since we are staying a few days in Geraldine, naturally we had to log some caches . Tftc!
Here for the weekend with my wife. This side of the river was much smoother that the other side.
JDScout and I spent a night in Geraldine in our camper van. We put the bikes on the back. I made a pocket query, mostly of this series. Day 2 was just as fun. Thankfully there was lots of shade on this very hot day.

A quick find - first of the day, out on a geocaching cycling route. Had to take my shoes off within seconds of the start to avoid wet feet all day!! TFTC.
Sunday morning maintenance ride container replaced cache all good to go
With today dawning fine it was time to get on my MTB and cyclocache my way along some of the various Geraldine MTB trails. Parked at the Western Seaward Road and first headed north up to and over (make that under) SH79 to seek 3 caches north of the SH before heading back to the cachemobile for a spot of morning tea. Once fed and watered it was time to seek out the caches south of Seaward Rd. I didn't quite make it all the way to Vance Rd as boredom and frustration with the poor poor physical state of many of the cache logs set in.
I won't be logging Needs Maintenance logs but will just mention something, where required, of the state of each cache.
Where else would it be hidden? But cache was in poor condition - crushed and broken. Log sodden and unwriteable.

Thought we would do a few along the stopbank but the heat got to us so we only managed 3 today. TFTC
On our way to Dunedin.
The plan was to cycle the entire trail but the continuous drizzle and the long wet grass curtailed that.
We did about ten and then went to the Geraldine camping ground to dry out and hunker down for the rest of the day.
Another quickish find in the wet.

Went for an afternoon bike ride along this bank of the river - started at the Bennett Rd access point, rode north to the highway and back, then south to #36 and back, taking the various loops, to find as many of the caches along here as I could. An enjoyable ride with an interesting variety of cache hides, one or two river crossings up to knee depth, and plenty of mud in a few places after the recent rain. Initially the weather was sunny and warm but there were peals of thunder from the hills and later on it rained quite heavily. However I had plenty of wet weather gear so was warm and dry where it mattered. I surprised myself by finding the cache almost instantly in the first place checked. Turned around after this and headed back to Bennet Road to attack the remaining caches to the south of there. Signed log, TFTC.
A challenging series of caches today with wet grass and a number flooded sections of track to negotiate.
Most of the finds we made today took some time to nail down as our GPS gz seemed to be a way out from where we located many of the caches. The hints were helpful. TFTC
